about using apps+sd cards. - Android General

(you can skip the "story" but it would help you understand my question better)
ok , so of what i'v heard on the SGS4 if i buy the 16 gb version (its the only one i have in my country ) i will have less then 9Gb free to install apps, now from the rate games develop on android and mobile devices ,the amount of data the game needs is rising . for example , modern combat 4 weighs about 2Gb , that meand that i will be able to download about 4-5 games(in this level ) before i run out of storage .
(im talking in total , not only on the SGS4, it was for example... )
now my question is : can i use my SD card to store the data of games so i could download more games ?
if its possible :
it will probably be slower then using the internal storage , but will the game lag?
and how can i do it ?

how much SD card cache did you set?

in Atrix 2 , what is the best value in your phone+Class X card ?
I've tested no matter I set it to 4MB , 3MB or 2MB , the speed is the same
BUT
in case of 4MB and 3MB , there are some lags after about 100MB copies but it's continuously smooth if I set it to 2MB.
My card is Class 10 32GB.
Don't you experience missing apps or photos from your sd card in your Atrix 2?
I tried 2MB before, but so no difference, I am running at the stock cache setting now with no (or very minimal) performance hit. I think increasing the cache really makes a difference when you start running apps and caches (dalvic and system cache) from the SDCard. We really don't need to do that since we have enough space on the internal (and faster) memory. I suggest running 100% of your apps on your internal memory, 4GB is plenty of space for apps.
The stock values will do just fine for accessing media (music, videos, pics) and files from your SDCard. Your mileage may vary, this is based on my experience and usage, yours could be different.
I have a 32GB class 4, and I do not loose pics or apps (none are installed on the card).

Be careful, several of us have had issues with cards that are higher than class 6 with the Atrix 2. People have lost pictures, mp3s, etc. We are thinking that these higher class cards are just not compatible at this time.

no matter how much cache I set, it does lose some files . I would say it's the same issue as the old old milestone.... they did improve nothing in these 2 years...

I really don't get this - at least when it comes to games. Recent Gameloft games consume a lot of storage, some exceeding over 1GB. So you're basically down to 3 quarters of your internal storage with just one app installed.
I really don't see that as enough. Or am I missing something here.
By the way, I'm still stuck on my iPhone 4. Owned an Android device before but sold it after 2 weeks. Looking to give Android another chance.

Well, following what jimbridgman said, your Class 10 card seems to be the culprit.
WOW!!! A game over 1GB? Which one. I have over 140 apps installed on my phone (most of them games) and I have PLENTY of space available (3.12GB to be exact). So even if I did install a game that was 1GB, I would have plenty of room for a lot more "regular" sized apps. Now, a lot of games do save additional files on the SDCard; although large, I have not seen an additional game download over 1GB. If I am missing something please enlighten me.

Those games that do save additional files on the SD card, do they go missing when you reboot your phone?
About games that eat up a lot of storage, Backstab HD requires about 650mb, I think. Dungeon Defenders 2 needs over 600mb. Modern Combat 3 takes around 900mb.

I do think the cause is the firmware but not the class 10 card . the card is just a ... trigger... You just can't say the knife as the killer , right ?
(P.S. my milestone didn't have such problem after flashing it to CM7...atrix 2... um .... we need to wait)
OK...to clarify. The actual install files and caches are the only things that can be saved in internal memory. The large "additional data" downloads can only be stored on the SDCard. The install files usually get up to around 50MB (sometimes a little more, most times a lot less). The addition download files can get very large (sometimes over 1GB).
To further clarify, the 4GB of internal storage is plenty space for plenty of install files caches. The problem becomes real if you install a game with a large additional download on a phone with the small stock SDCard (2GB). If you install a game that has 1GB of additional downloads you are down to less that half of the available space.
The additional downloads don't seem to be effected by the disappearing problem.

Storage help 4gb space 1 gb user.

Hi all first of im sorry if its in wrong section im new...
So i have a huawei ascend y300 only a mid range phone but as like with other phones you never get the exact space advertised, so i get only 1GB space and not 4 , i have read about it and so many different answers so maybe someone could clarify a few things.
Is the rest of my space(3GB) used for cache partitions etc or for music and such or does music use the 1GB as my apps and games does, that simly would not be enough.
The reason i ask this is because i have some youtube vids of people play real racing 3 and RF2013 which for me is impossible as i 1GB simply wont cover it, so is it possible for me or android to install the large data of RF2013 or RR3 on to my sd card(removable one) ?

Hi guys today this is my post on xda so keep looking

Hi, Micromax and some other
companies like Karbonn, Lava
devices are good and cheap but the
ram is quite low on some of the
android devices so we cant play
amazing games like- The Amazing
Spider-Man, Grand Theft Auto (GTA):
Vice City/3, Need For Speed (NFS):
Most Wanted/Hot pursuit/Shift,
Temple Run: 1, 2, Brave, Oz, Angry
Birds Space, Nova, Asphalt 6/7,
Gangstar: 2/Rio, Fifa 13, PES 12, Fx
Guru, Where's my Water/Perry,
Subway Surfers, Cut The Rope etc.
But The app named "ROEHDOFT
RAM-EXPANDER -ROOT" has made it
possible. This is developed by
ROEHSOFT. This makes a file called
swap file in SDcard which is virtual
ram, it will make heavy games run
flawlessly in your micromax android
devices. This can be used all
phones having SWAP support in
their kernel. Swapping is a
technology which makes virtual RAM
in SD card and takes RAM utilization
from there only. Swap is also used
in iPhone but you can use in
Android too! no need for script for
swappiness. This RAMEXPANDER
has a new technology- min-free KB
which makes phone not too hot
while more demand of RAM. Think
just Micro SD Card can be RAM of
your android devices which
supports SWAP technology like-
Micromax A57, Micromax
A87, Samsung Galaxy Y etc etc, so
lets see, how to make SWAP
partition on Any Android device-
Features of RAMEXPANDER
- Free SD card memory as a RAM
use (SWAP RAM / SWAP MEMORY)
- Swapfile RAM expansion up to 4.0
GB
- The usual performance
degradation when paged not occur
with sd card from class6
- Widget for PNP swap (swap on /
off swap)
- Detailed Memory Information &
Analysis
- Autorun
- Swappiness kernel parameter set
- Easy foolproof use
(1 click optimization and automatic
calculation)
- Supporting Tune all Android
devices (root access and Kernel
swap support)
How to use it
Before you buy this application,
check that if your android device is
compatible or not.
you can try this app to verify if your
kernel support swap or not. If it
works then follow next guide-
Download the this application from
google for free version, but
coding is really very hard, so buy it
to support developer).
2 see this guide for swapping your
android device-
3 You will see which language you
want when you will open the
application for first time, now select
your language!
4 Select "Optimal" (it will itself see
how much RAM is required and will
create SWAP file according to it).
Then click "Swap Activ" to make
SWAP file and to enable it.
5 you will see something like this
(but in english), you might see RAM
of different numbers because your
device much needs less or too
much!
NOTE: do not open any application
or close this app, SWAPPING will be
cancel and you have to do all this
again!
6 I know you are not that dumb so
please follow onscreen instructions,
they are easy like a hell.
7 When it will complete you will see
this, click on they grey box to
complete the process and activate
SWAP in your Android device.

[Q] APPS/GAMES: Google play Vs. APK(manual)

Hi Guys.. I just wanna ask regarding Apps/games came from Google Play and Apps/games manually installed using APK.
1. Does apps/games came from APK(manually download outside google play) installed in Internal or External memory? if its in Internal is it possible to move it in External. 100% or some?
2. When you install the games using APK(manually download outside google play) file and that particular games got an update in Google Play, will you able to update that game using google play?
3. Does every apps/games from Google Play is directly installed in Internal memory and cant be transfer to external memory?
4. Scenario: A certain App/game is 50 mb(installed in internal) then you'll transfer this to external. Does all 50 mb will go in external and or theres still a certain amount of date left in internal and cant be trasfer to external
5. What are some difference between App/games from google play and APK.
P:S. No Rooting
Thanks.. Iam asking this because iam planning to buy Tab S 8.4, and it only offer 16 gb here in the Phillipines and i dont know if its enough for me. Also, its not exactly 16 gb, i guess its about 9 or 10 gb left.
2. No. You won't get update notifications for apps installed outside the play store.
For the others: I have no idea as my current phone has no external memory and on my old phone I didn't need to move the data.
1) Apps define if they can be moved in the apk file.
3) No. Some apps can. See #1
4) No. Some data will remain behind. How much depends on the app.

iS android os restrect the number of Apps instilled in the device even with 128gb !!!

hello there first of all i have a lot of applications and try to instill it all at one time in the same device so i used the following device :
1- HTC ONE M8 32 GB
2- SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4 32 GB
3- ASUS ZENFONE 2 - 64GB
4- LG V10 -64GB
5- Huawei mate 8 - 128 gb
all the time i try to buy a smart phone with a higher capacity of internal sorage
i try all above devices thinking the restriction is first from the company so i chang the company many times , then i think it is due to the internal storage shifting from 32 to 64 and finally to 128 gb of internal storage
now what i find is really frustrating me
all my test is going for the same result and conclusion that the android system restrect me to instill only about 650 applications at same time even with 128 gb of internal storage and note that i try to instill at first time only free apps then only paid apps then mixed between each other , ( every test i format my device for next test ) all test done on unrooted device and about more than half of the capacity is free !!!
all apps in in latest update !!!
what is happen if i instill more than this number at once
is all the applications icon disappears and just system apps appears to me !!! and frequent error occur to me preventing me to use the device
so my questions is that is it really the android system restrict us by instill only a small number of apps at same time
( just to compare the opposite to my iPhone 6 plus 128 GB i instill about 950 apps with no any issue !!! UN jailbreak one
can i solve the issue by root !!!
i am traveling many times from place to place and i want to download all the apps in same times without depending on internet and its coverage issue and cost of money of data downloading and wasting time , if i have a lot of space why not is get benefit form it
may idea simply is internal memory for apps and games
external memory form important data inducing photo , video , office , music files
i want to make my device as a source of most popular and important apps and use it when ever i want without depending on the google play or other market to download it again
i unlock bootloader of my device huawei mate 8 and rooting the device
is this will solve my issue !!! any one have any experience to answer my questions
NO comment !!!
