I don't know if this mentioned yet, but you might be aware that you can't move apps to your ext. SD Card to free up space on your phone.
For some reasons Apps2SD doesn't seem to work on Samsung phones.
After doing a bit of browsing/research I came across an app called "FolderMount." [Requires Root]
This works by mounting folders in your ext. SDcard to your internal SD Card, fooling your device into thinking your external storage is part of your internal storage. This way you can move all your game data (or any other files that can only stay on your internal SD) to your MicroSD card.
Here is a quote by the developer:

Today some apps store big files over the internal SD card (e.g. Games, Podcasts, Offline RSS feeds, Pictures, Offline navigation software). Typically users have a small internal sd card size (~16GB) while the external SD is a lot bigger (~32-64GB). Most of these apps don't have an option to use the external SD card to store data so they starve your internal SD card memory. I'm bringing this solution to fix this issue. In my case, I use this app to mount offline navigation software and some GameLoft games (NFS anyone?).
Doesn't this do the same thing as previous apps?
There are a few apps that already do this. However, my app differs in that:
a) Some of the existing apps aren't maintained anymore. FolderMount will be maintained by me as we go forward.
b) While most of the previous apps work properly in most cases, I found them not very intuitive to setup initially and were lacking some necessary "sanity checks" before linking folders. I intend to keep this app as intuitive and bug free as possible.
c) Support for Android 4.2.2! No app will currently do that for you, so here it is. (dev talk: this uses the debuggerd service trick to get it to work).

As you can see, the three apps in the background are already moved to the external SDCard.

Folder Mount Reboots
Hello, My name is Darren and this is my first post, please go easy on me...
Could not ask this on FolderMount thread in Dev so hopefully can find help here.
I have FM Pro installed on I9505 and tried to created simple link of pictures (/storage/emulated/0/Pictures to /storage/extSdCard/Pictures) followed the FM prompts and it appeared all was good, then phone rebooted and continued to reboot for about 5 to 6 times then come good. Tried power off restart and cycle started again. Tried once more and all come good, no reboots , green pin and files are being stored on ext card.
Phone was Telstra branded (I9505XXUAMDE) now running djembey Pre Rooted Knox Free XXUAMDM. Could basic root access nature of this ROM be the cause of multiple reboots?
Kind regards Darren
For anyone who wants a quick tutorial on how to set this up:
Let's use Modern Combat 4 as an example for this-
Once you download Modern Combat, it stores all of its data on your internal SDcard in the following location:
/Android/obb/com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM
This folder is somewhere around 2GB i believe, or something like that.
The goal FolderMount is to move the above folder to your external MicroSD, but at the same time, fool your phone into thinking that the folder data is still in the internal drive.
To do this, do the following;
Download and install FolderMouint and give it root permissions.
Start the applications and click at on the "+".
For Name, Put in Modern Combat 4
For Source, chose Android -> obb -> com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM and press the checkmark button at the top.
You will get a message saying the following
"Would you like me to create the destination folder automatically?..blah blah blah"
Just choose yes.
Now press the Check mark button at the top again. It will start to move all the files to your external MicroSD card.
Once that has been completed, in the main FolderMount screen, you will see a little pin beside "Modern Combay 4". Press that and it will mount your folders together and it should work!
Sorry, I kind of rushed through this.

Press the three dots beside the "+" button and you should have an option to buy premium.
I dont understand... did everything as told, the app worked aswell.. but as i can see it only copied data from sd to external sd.. the original game data remains at the internal sd card, thus i have not received any free space??

I need help with what my TF700T is doing with my 32 gb MicroSD card.
I bought a good quality card and inserted it. No problems.
I connected my TF700T to my Windows computer via the. AUSUS USB cable
No problem, Windows recognized two different drives.
I added some folders to my MicroSD card and copied some music and video to it.
Put the card back in.
Then I noticed something weird.
The TF700T created a mst/SDCARD/ folder and it thinks that is where my MicroSD card is, but those files and folders are really on the internal.
My MicroSD card is under the /removable/MicroSD/ folder, that it thinks is on the internal Memory.
Do I have to re-format or rename my MicroSD card?
Thanks,
Jon

I'm a bit confused by your description. I don't know what the prefix mst means. If you are on ICS your micro sd should be at Removable and your internal storage should be called Sdcard (it changes with Jellybean). If the files you added to your microsd are actually on internal sdcard, maybe you made a mistake and copied them to the wrong drive in windows. Or did you create nested folders?

+1 sounds like you copied them to the wrong card.
/mnt/sdcard is the internal memory.
/removable/microsd is the external sd card.

I made a mistake, NOT mst, I mean mnt.
I am using a Asus TF700T Android 4.03.
No, I didn't create the folders on the wrong device.
Those folders sdcard and mnt/sdcard were not created by me.

what you describe in your original post is what the Infinity does when you have an SDHC/SDXC card installed. You don't need to format it.
I would just adding that seeing SD Card and Removable was just odd labeling, compared to other mobile devices because we're not use to thinking of storage build into a device as an SD Card. Although, I will say it's accurate because we can use it as such. The removable is accurate because we can remove that storage.
Hopefully that makes more sense now. It's perfectly clear in my head, LOL.

Thank you for your thoughts. Maybe it is mybrain, but I don't understand it, and it does cause issues for me.
The crd inserted in my Asus TF700T is a MicroSD card.
I can, if I choose to, insert a SD card in my docking station/keyboard, but I have not done that yet.
I don't understand what you mean by odd labeling compared to other devices? Personally, I never buy a device that does not have an expansion card. This goes back to Palm devices as well as my Samsung Tablet and my Cowan portable multimedia devices. Also my digital cameras.
If I go to do a backup that is supposed to go to my microSD card, it will look to backup it up to the Internal storage, in the /mnt/sdcard/......./ folder. It won't look at the expansion card.
Some applications see it, some don't.
There is some sort of confusion how the TF700T thinks where the microSD card is and if ie t exists.
When I first got the TF700T, I did not have an expansion card in it. I put it in about a week after I started using it. Could it be that because I put it in after starting to use it, it got confused and created this infrustructure of folders on the Internal drive thinking that there is an external drive ?
In the file directory, I cannot get it to change things so that when I go to mymusic or audio, to look at my microsd card, which is where I store my audio.
I am really confused. If I plug it into a PC, while the microsd card is istalled, Windows sees it properly and it creates two virtual drives that I can get into with Windows Explorer, no problem.
Something is messed up, but I don't know what it is.
Thank you,
Jon

Using ES File Explorer, you can see
This is at the root directory. The SDCard is the internal storage. Removable my SDXC card.
As for your music, it may be more an issue with the music you're using. I have encountered a problem with some apps where I cannot access SDHC/XC card. One example is Docs2Go. It won't go to the root directory on the local file selection, just do to /SDCard/, or in other words, just to top internal storage directory. I can open up the files using ES explorer directly and choosing the appropriate app to launch.
So you may want to use your file explorer/browser app, suck as ES explore, File Explorer, and so forth, and see if you can access your SDHC card while on the Infinity. I haven't loaded music on my SDXC card, or video files. I know I was able to access video on my previous SDHC card I had installed with MoboPlayer.
Hopefully that helps. All my answers on based on using the tablet only, no dock since I don't own it. As based on previous comments, which you only confirmed, I assumed you were familiar enough with having SDHC cards in mobile devices and how it worked. Thus, to me it looked more like an issue of know where to look.
Hey all,
I just rooted my ATT Galaxy S2 first time and I think the first time android phone in general. I have successfully got to where i want to be. I have internet tethering, uninstalled all the junk, I still sticking with base rom, as I am trying to figure out why CM10 would not boot up beyond loading screen, but thats another topic.
What i don't understand is why you would not be able to move apps to external storage sd card. I used to have htc, and was able to do that, but that was before ICS. I have done some research but not as successfully as i wanted to do.
I have come across "ICS SD Binder" on play.google.com. But I dont completely understand what exactly needs to be done. Or rather bit unsure which drop down item to select and how it might effect my sd card as well as how to move apps afterwards. I assume just relocating them into that folder.
So can some one tell me why is it such a pain to have apps on external sd card and may be point me to right threads on how to point to external sd card and move my apps there or how in general i can get my apps on my external sd card.
Much appreciated and thank you in advance everyone.
I just used grooveshark and audible for my listening and educational needs. Though audio books library isnt bad at 2 gigs. Audio files that i offline are about 6-8 gigs. And thats hits my SG2 internal storage limit : /
Much appriciated.
Why do you want them on the external? They're easy to replace. Store other stuff on the external
Edit: you can use tibu to move apps to the external, but they don't always work well there.

I want to move audible and grooveshark to extranal sd so all their offline content which is about 8 gigs can reside on my 32 gig external drive.
AppMgr III (App 2 SD) on google play?
Apparently my external sd card not seen by that app only internal sd card. Which is useless....
apps2sd moves apps to internal sd not externl sd. dnt think there's a way to move to ext sd yet without assigning ext sd as internal sd and vice versa.

Actually this is what i was asking about.
Would one of these/something like it work on my Moto G: 1 2 3
If I used a file explorer, could I move apps and music from Moto storage onto flash drive and still be able to play them? Is it convenient and easy to use, 8GB is barley enough for me. Thanks
@Banana4Life ..... Look at the "Meenova" USB OTG unit (there is a thread in Moto G accessory forum but i cannot remember exactly where) you can find it by Googling. It is similar to your 3rd example, that is it can be used in Moto G also as a normal size USB in Laptop or Desktop. I have one and I see it's advantage is that it comes without a fixed memory i.e. you can put any micro sd card that you want in it i.e. 4Gb, 8Gb, 16Gb, 32Gb, 64Gb etc. If I remember correctly it costs $15 plus shipping & handling. It is a Chinese firm but has an office and sales point in California.
I find it most useful for keeping a copy of "sdcard" and backups which in turn can be copied to my Laptop as extra insurance LOL. I also store movies on it and can play them directly onto my phone. One word of warning (which you probably know) do not be tempted to format with NTFS - Moto G wont read it and theres a chance you will soft brick.
It looks pretty nice, much smaller than my examples. Can you play apps off the micro sd card? I would mainly use it for apps and music. Is it easy to access the stuff you put on it as well, do you use ES file explorer?
@bana4Life ..... I can't give you a definite answer to whether you can run apps directly from the Meenova device all I can say on that is that it is quite easy to transfer apps from your phone onto the Meenova, the only trouble I find is that as soon as you select the app it immediately asks if you want to "install" it and this it does on your phone not on the device. I don't know whether using one of the apps which claims to be able to transfer apps to an external sd would be able to help you out but my own limited experience with such apps as "Apps to SD", "Move to SD", "App Manager" etc has not proved very helpful.
As far as music is concerned, same as videos or movies, it is simplicity itself ..... If you run your main app to play music or video then the app automatically searches for the music etc on both your phone storage and the usb storage and plays it fine.
My file manager of choice is "Root Explorer" (from the play store), I'm presuming that you are rooted - if not you can still use "Root Explorer" but you won't have the option to read/write files, only read them and you won't have the ability to see the hidden system files.
The Meenova shows up in your file system as ...../mnt/media_rw/usbdisk. I should have mentioned before that although I am rooted and have custom recovery installed I am running the stock 4.4.3 Rom and if you are running a custom Rom then much of what I have said may not apply.
I don't think I've been a lot of help to you, however good luck with whatever you try. By the way I think my remarks apply to all USB OTG storage devices not just Meenova. Yes I think the Meenova is the smallest such device on the market.
So with the app problem, you can move an app from phone to SD, but to play it you'll have to move it back onto the phone, then after using it move it back onto SD. Is that what you can do? Also, didn't know the main music app would search the SD, thought that you would have to use something like Es File Explorer to play music (which is what I use). I am also on stock 4.4.4
You have actually been helpful, went into detail and gave info :highfive: :highfive: :highfive:
@Banana4Life ..... Just a quick answer ..... When I talked about moving the app to the usb storage I was referring to the .apk ...... but when you click on it it will give you the option to "Install" which it then does on your phone so really you save nothing, the app is still installed on the phone! ..... As far as I'm concerned the only real use of usb storage is to store large amounts of data i.e. mp4 movies which would otherwise take up valuable phone memory. This applies equally to large numbers of music files.
The two apps I use for playing movies are (1) MX Player Pro and (2) Best Video Player. Both are on Play Store. Both will search for compatible video files to play on both the phone and the usb storage.
I'm not a huge music "fan" but I have my playlists which I play using the stock Google "Play Music" app (installed by default by ICS - Jelly Bean - KitKat) it's also on Play Store. This app will also search both the phone and usb storage for music files.
An apk file can be installed with out a connection right? So you can put multiple apk's on SD card, install one then uninstall it to install a different apk
@Banana4Life ..... I think we are beginning to talk about different things here LOL ..... If you download an app from the Play Store then nine times out of ten the .apk file will be downloaded to your phone in the ..../data/app.... folder - the associated "odex" file will probably be downloaded into your phone in the ..../system/app.... folder and any other associated data files will be downloaded to other phone folders ..... Now there maybe apps which will allow these files to be downloaded to your place of choice i.e. usb storage .... BUT I don't know of any apps which will do this.
You use the words ".... on SD card...." please remember the Moto G does not have an external SD card (unless of course you have the Moto E which has an external SD card) so when you use a File Manager and see the folder entitled "sdcard" this refers to the internal memory space NOT to an external card.
Yes you could swap installed apk's back and forth between usb storage and normal phone storage but it just seems to me a lot of work for not very much gain.
You say "....apk's can be installed without a connection" .... Not quite certain what you mean by that..... You don't need your phone connected to a PC by a cable ..... You can have your USB storage (Meenova) connected to your phone ...OR NOT ...... of course your phone will be connected to Play Store by WiFi, but that can't be what you mean
Yea, I am android pleb I get confused
In your 2nd reply you said apps such as App to SD were not very useful but your also said it's easy to transfer apps. By transferring apps you mean by the apk and you tried to use the App to SD to move the whole app not just the installer, but even though using App to SD it still requires you to install it on phone. Is it not possible to move the apk file for every app or do just some work? There are some tutorials saying how to make default download place an SD or how to move an app to SD.
Maybe I don't understand what an apk is? Running an apk will install the app it's for right? Just a installer. And by the connection I mean as in once you have downloaded the apk file, running it won't require a WiFi connection?
And yea you said it comes up as /mnt/media_rw/USB disk in 2nd reply as well
Sorry if this doesnt make sense :/
@Banana4Life ..... I have never found the apps that transfer files i.e. such as "App2SD" any use for my purposes ..... BUT don't let that stop you trying them ..... you might find one that suits you and most of them are free in the Play Store.
Think of an .apk file as being an .exe file on windows ..... i.e. it installs and runs the App (Program) on your phone.
You don't need to have a WiFi connection to run 99% of apps on your phone. The obvious exceptions are online games which require an interaction between you and the Internet ..... Some simulations i.e. Flying - Motor Racing - Boat racing etc ..... Some games which require you to purchase in game upgrades ..... Games where you want to post "high scores" on a web site ..... etc.etc.etc.
I've ordered a black one today, hopefully wont take 20 days like they say it can
Im still not sure about the apps. You said it is quite easy to transfer apps from your phone onto the Meenova. What method did you do to transfer it? With the picture attached, does that option come up once SD card is put in? And just to be sure, once the app is on Meenova to use it I have to install it on phone first, then be able to put it back on Meenova right?
Thanks for recommending it and loads of information - I appreciate it :good::good::good::laugh::highfive: . If apps dont work, music is still important, I'll have to experiment
@bana4Life ..... Hope you are happy with it when it arrives. When I said in post#2 that there was a sales office/warehouse in California I was making the assumption that you were in the US because then they send it by US Postal Service and it takes two days ..... HOWEVER if you are outside US (which I now understand you are) then the postage is by Chinese Postal Service which is first class crap and will probably take nearly 20 days
Whenever I talk about moving files from one location to another (i.e. from phone to usb storage or the reverse) I am always talking about using File Manager "Root Explorer Pro".
When you have usb storage attached it shows up at ------ Settings>Storage>USB On the Go Storage Mounted...... In your screenshot (which I am guessing is using one of the "App2SD" apps) any reference to SD card refers to your internal memory.
It has just occurred to me that I have been assuming all along that you have the standard XT1032 or XT1033 Moto G (with NO external SD slot)..... WHEREAS if you have the Moto G LTE or the Moto E then you do have an external sd card slot.
Anyway I think I have gone as far as I can go with helping you out. I hope that your Meenova arrives quickly and that when you use it you will be happy with what it offers.
Yea I have XT1032. Its was dispatched today . Thanks again! :good: I'll try these App2SD apps, Im sure I'll manage somehow

What do you mean by "no value beyond installing. Your never going to have the equivalent of that picture", and also where have I been going wrong with the app2sd apps?

Well that's what the apks are there for installing. If you download an apk and install it (click on it) the only use of keeping the downloaded apk is if you uninstall the app. You can then install it again.
Apps2sd apps are for phones with sdcard slots. You can partition the sdcard ( fat32 + ext4) and the second partition (ext4) acts as a extension of the /data (where installed app are). There's a lot more to those type of apps but I'm not going into it all. Irrelevant to usb-on-the-go (any storage going thru the micro USB port)

No it doesn't act like a built-in SDslot. It acts like you've just plugged a memory stick into it.
Yeah copying apks will work it's just a file. Like copying any file. I just don't see what your going to gain from that. Your not going to be able to have more apps installed (ready to run).
The only practical use I've found for meenova is sharing pictures from my camera to my phone.
Ok i just switched over to a S7 from iPhone after a few years and from what I remember to moves apps over to the SD card so there not taking up phone memory you just went into app manager and moved them over. But with this phone I don't see that option in that or in Storage. Any help would be grateful. Thanx
Goto settings/storage/internal storage/used space/apps here you will see all your installed apps, click on some game you installed and click on "change" under storage used and then send it to the sd card.
You cant move every app to the sdcard, most majority of the ones you downloaded should be able to be moved.
The feature doesn't work though. It makes a folder on the sd, but doesn't move the content

It works in some cases it seems, if you have a 2gig game it seems it wont move the whole thing, but if you have a 100meg game/app it will.

What is the best way to get apps to work on it?
Some apps say "Move to SD Card"
And after you move them it shows as "Move to Device"
But on Google Play Music the option to Move to SD Card is grayed out
Another interesting note, the Google Play Music app version on my Joying is the same as the version on my Samsung S7 Edge, but the "Storage Location" option is missing on Joying

I am downloading my Playlist from Google Play Music on the Joying so I don't have to use data.
you might try malaysk rom with fuse (merging spaces together) function!

I might have to try that. Anyone done that successfully with MTCD? I will look around, but sometimes XDA gets confusing cause there are too many topics that get derailed. Anyone know a link to a guide for stupid dumb dumbs that will show me how to back up my current Joying so I dont break it, then get the right Malaysk ROM so I can merge stuff?
this one looks pretty good:

even has a video guide

Honestly, dont bother with the rom that it ships with. Its crap. The custom rom is better but its still not good.
you cant move play music because its a system app. If you dont want to use a custom rom then root and use titanium backup to change play music or uninstall it and reinstall from playstore.

Can you explain this a little more? How would i use titanium backup to change play music? I did install Google Play Music from the Play Store, it didn't come with the head unit. I dont really need the whole app on the SD card, I just want it to store the music it downloads on the sd card, which is how it works on my Samsung S7 Edge. That may be an Android 6.0 feature though, I'm not sure.

Did you just plug it in and it worked? Did you have to do something special?
I'm having issues with Plex and US Topo maps saving/caching to the external sd myself. I'm going to try rooting and installing Apps2SD and I'll let you know what happens.
I'm also going to try to add some swap space since it's pretty universally accepted that this unit doesn't have enough ram. I would like to believe the onboard NAND flash is faster than an SD card but I've not found that to always be the case. Some of the premium sd brands can have really fast transfer speeds 80-90mb/s and you get speed boost by using them as swap. We'll see. Keep in mind this only helps out with inactive applications. The Android application life cycle is supposed to be a fancy form of swapping but I've found lots of apps don't properly use the technology. Swapping avoids that by saving the entire RAM state of the application to swap when inactive, so when you switch back things are a bit quicker because the entire state loads from swap not just the bits that were bundled via the app.
I have a RK3188 and I saw a review that just ripped it to shreds but honestly I'm not having any big speed issues with it so far. All of mine are based on software things like the inability to pair with anything not named ODBII. And this issue with the SD card.
I've considered removing the goofy home screen animation for good measure but have yet to pull the trigger.
Now to figure out how to properly root it.

When I plugged in the 128 GB at first it did not recognize it. I went to Storage in Settings and Erased that card, then Mounted it, and it worked.
however I still have the issue of not moving app data to external SD cards. I love Google Play Music, but just can't find a good way to move that offline storage there. So I'm currently trying Slacker and Spotify. I will report back with my findings.
I tried what claims to be the original App2sd, AppMgr III:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&hl=en
it is very user friendly, and just shows which apps can be moved and which can't, but I dont know that it really does anything other than that Move to SD option in the App settings menu
I also tried Link2Sd:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en
but to use the full options you need the paid version, but you also have to already have the SD card partioned properly. Whicn Link2sd can't do. Also didn't look like there was really a way to do what I really wanted. I dont want to sacrifice speed for storage. So ideally, I want the app on the internal, and just the offline songs on the exteranl, which is how my Samsung S7 Edge lets me do it
So i went to this App2sd one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd&hl=en
And it has a great interface and a lot of features, such as allowing you to partition a card from the app. But I didn't know what sizes to use for optimal performance or what to use for the 2nd partition. Still trying to find some guide that isn't several years old.
I did remove that 128GB card for a 64GB Samsung Pro+, cause it has faster read/write speeds

OK! After a day and a night of bricking rooting and flashing I found a solution.
com.devasque.fmount (can't post a link... too new on xda forums.) But an app named FolderMount [ROOT]
Foldermount. I'll save the details of how I got there for my review thread, but in short if you can root your device and install foldermount. Then if you can find the directory where the offline music is currently being stored, you can move it to the external storage. I'm currently running it with the Malaysk RK3188 firmware version 4 and it's looking good so far.
I'm doing this with Plex and US Topo maps now with no serious issue between last night and my drive in today and I've confirmed that it is indeed saving the offline data to the correct folder on the SD card.
The external sds are mounted at /mnt/external_sd and /mnt/external_sd2. GPS, and SD respectively. Ideally, when you set it up to send to one of those devices it would be wise to allow it to automatically create the folder. Without any tweaking it was smart enough to see the mount points as well.
i ended up bailing on Google Play Music and going to Spotify. Same price for the family plan, and it has the options for saving to SD card available, no tweaks required:
Interface looks good too:
The horizontal interface for GPM is kind of lame, these next two are from my phone, but it is basically the same for the Joying, I just didn't take pics:
Google Play Music
Spotify
Glad to see you found a solution. Unfortunately, I doubt this app will be the only situation where you have this issue. I've already used FolderMount to successfully redirect google maps cache, US topo maps, Plex, and a few others. I also confirmed that it is saving the cached data to the correct location. Total boot time for those apps can be a bit longer (you have to wait for the toaster popup saying they've been redirected but we're talking about seconds not minutes so it's a sacrifice that wasn't too hard to make.
