How to root if already unlocked and on stock 4.2.1 update? - Asus Transformer TF700

Just recently got the TF700 and have got to do something about the performance. Looking at the threads it seems running a custom ROM+Kernel is the only way to make this thing perform better.
In going through the how-to threads, I think I did things in the wrong order.
I used the ASUS Unlocking tool to unlock the device, but didn't downgrade it first to JB 4.1.1 so I can root it using the motochomper(?).
Any thoughts on how I can proceed to root the device and install TWRP next?
Thanks!

Just use motochopper to root (This tool worked on all JB version) then download Goomanager from the market and install TWRP. Once done use twrp to flash cromi-X rom.

Thank you!!!!

No you need to download the Asus unlock tool from Asus site (version 7 will work on ICS and all JB version).

Much thanks! I now have my device rooted and unlocked. In a previous post you had mentioned to flash cromi-x custom rom after root/unlock. I read about the 2 different flavours it offers...ODEX and DEODEX and I'm aware of the differences. Is there a favorite choice between the 2? Also, you mention to use TWRP to flash cromi-x, but can I not also use GooManager to flash as well?
Thanks.

I would use TWRP to flash, I preferred ODEX (smoother, snappier reported by most ppl). Download "rebooter" app from the market (red circle logo), then open it and select boot into recovery, it should boot you directly into twrp, then select install, then browse to cromi-X zip file and execute it.

Sorry to hijack the thread but im having similar issues, everytime i do a OTA update my tablet resets root and i have the VOODOO rootkeeper app but it does not work.
Ever since the new update ive been trying to get root back but my DEVELOPER Options IN settings have dissapeared and i dont know how to get it back to enable debbuging to get the fastboot going can anyone help?
Also what is motochomper and where do i get it

With the new bootloader you don't have the usb icon as you will be in fastboot mode as soon as you enter bootloader.

Fastboot for JB 4.2.1 is volume down and power button, you should see 3 icons and read the text, it should say fastboot mode enabled.
edit- volume up and power buttons is APX mode (black screen).

You can install TRWP 2.2.2.0 with Terminal Emulator apk
If you can push the blob files on your internal SDcard, after you can just follow the process TWRP 2.2 - Asus Transformer TF300T(G) page
but for rooted your TF, you will need one computer...
If you get the recovery working. I would assume you could flash a new rom stock or custom thats rooted already

[Q] Looking to fix these problems

So I own an Asus TF300T and I'm using Jelly Bean [Rooted 4.1.1]
Here are my current problem's.
1) I am unable to get CWM to work on it as it will install correctly through Fastboot but when I reboot into Recovery it will hang t the RCK screen. I don't know how to fix this as I've tried a few different recovery images, all of which were CWM.
2) When transferring via Bluetooth to my Nexus 7 the TF300T will reboot for some reason... same thing happens when I'm sending files from my N7 to the TF300T. Any idea's as to why this would be happening?
3) I am unable to reset my device to stock, has anyone else had this problem?
4) I have minor time's where the device will just reboot because of what I assume to be the processor taking on to much of a load from the Android OS. Is there a fix for this problem?
Any answer's or solution's would be helpful. Every time I find what I think to be a fix doesn't work...
1) What bootloader are you running from? [Edit: Sorry, forgot you mentioned you are on Jelly Bean there -- You will need to make sure the CWM is JB compatible (again look at the link I posted here for the CWM JB Recovery)] If you are on the new JB bootloader you have to have CWM recovery that recognizes this. I don't use CWM on my TF300, but you might try HERE to find info on that. I do know that TWRP version 2.2.1 and higher have a JB bootloader version. You can find it from their site HERE.
2) No clue on the bluetooth. I don't use the bluetooth transfer so I haven't ever tried this out.
3) By "reset device to stock" do you mean the Factory Wipe Data option from the boot menu, or something else? Please explain and I'll do what I can to assist.
4) I've had my device reboot a time or two for no reason, but I don't know enough about debugging things in the software to know what's going on.

Being that you are already on the Jelly Bean bootloader, you cannot flash any firmware to working condition that is not a Jelly Bean bootloader. This means that you can only flash 10.4.2.9 or 10.4.2.13 firmware versions. Anything else won't boot on the JB Bootloader. Also, the ZIP file you might download from the ASUS site requires it to be unzipped first. There is another zip file inside of the downloaded file that is used for the actual flashing process.
-Nate
Yup I know that part...
Just confused as to the process of getting it done...
I have some experience in flashing new firmware but with the TF300T I'm so confused xD
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
There isn't anything "rocket-sciencey" to flashing on the TF300. If you have ever done any type of ROM flashing, the returning to Stock is the exact same way, just using the stock firmware file downloaded from ASUS.com. Find the firmware you want to load, download and unzip the file to a YY_epad-X.X.X.X_2012xxxx.zip where the YY is your location code (US more than likely) and the X.X.X.X is the version of the firmware you are loading up. The xxxx should say "user" if memory serves correct. Put it on your MicroSD and flash it like you would any normal custom ROM. Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Flash ROM, Wipe Dalvik, Reboot. I'd be happy to put together a more fluid tutorial on this if needed.
-Nate
I didn't see anything from US so I tried WW.....
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
If you go to asus.com and click on United States, then go to the Tablets and the TF300 download section the only ones available should say US. But I think WW should work, no guarantees though.
I'll try that today thx...
I'll post back later

Problems flashing custom recovery

I have a strange problem. A while ago I successfully unlocked my infinity. That was before the jb update. I also successfully flashed custom recoveries and several roms. Didn't ran into any problems. When the official jb update came out, I restored original recovery and flashed a stock ics Rom, and after that successfully applied the jb update. The second update .30 also went smooth. I used the update file from Asus servers. Now I want to flash a custom recovery again in order to flash cleanrom. In adb I see my device and I can reboot with fastboot and stuff. So I think my drivers are ok. However as soon as I start to flash recovery.img it just says sending recovery and that's it. It just hangs there. Nothing happens. I tried everything, from changing usb ports and uninstalling drivers... It just can't send the recovery img. I use Scott's script to flash the recovery.blob. any ideas?

Are you saying you can not get TWRP or CWM installed ? or are you saying you do have one installed but no root ?
If it is the latter then can't you just flash a custom rom that has root built in ( like Baked ) then go back to twrp and now with root you can wipe and flash stock. ? I am sorry if I am miss understanding your question. But at least you get a free 'bump'

Thats correct, i am trying to get custom recovery, after that root is no problem.
Edit: i just installed a clean windows 8 installation. So no old drivers left behind or other weird stuff. I put my transformer in fastboot mode, driver is automatically installed, i see it under device manager. Stillno luck.... it hangs saying sending recovery.... no error messages. My previous attempt was under win7.

Glenner, did you make sure you have the img file in the same folder as you fastboot/adb command files?
If it says "sending recovery", I'd assume that it found the local file.
I don't use Windows, but I always read about driver issues in Windows. Maybe the auto-installed driver is wrong? Does "fastboot devices" return question marks or nothing?
i'm happy to report that finally it worked! seemed something strange with drivers/USB ports after all. Despite i already changed USB ports under my win 7 installation, i tried it again under win8, and suddenly it worked. I didn't reinstall the drivers or something, all went automatically. So the strange issues are driver issues for sure. Anyway, currently happy running cleanrom 2.3
thanks for all your suggestions and thinking along.....

[Q] My first post, help me root 10.6.1.27.5 please!?

Hello all,
I just got a TF300T and set it up, and with hindsight rather stupidly, OTA'd it to 10.6.1.27.5 (4.2.1)
I have spent quite a while on this forum deciding what ROM's to get etc
and i was going to follow the guides and realised that they are for 10.6.1.27.1 latest and that motochopper doesn't work for that firmware
Just generally, what can I do?
I don't really want to install loads of stuff and get settled in to my tf300t if im just going to wipe it when i root and flash
Will i need to unlock the bootloader?
Are there any other questions i should be asking instead?
Cheers, any help would be appreciated

I've read the motochopper root method doesn't work on 27 versions. So either downgrade to 15 and use motochopper or unlock the bootloader. Unlocking makes things much easier to achieve and maintain, and you can run the latest version with root easily.

- no you can't relock
- yes it is possible to downgrade, however unlike upgrade, downgrading deletes all of your data (so back up first and then downgrade)
I have the latest update on my tf300t and I have it unlocked. However, no method I've tried will allow me to install a custom recovery or get root access. I'm at a loss as what to do. I've tried the motochopper method and I've tried several that have me download files to my sd and try to flash them through recovery. All I get there is a little dead android with an exclamation point. Asus Sync won't even work, so any method that uses that is useless to me...

As previously stated....... you need to downgrade your system. The latest OTA will not allow you to use motochopper. Boot into fastboot, install universal drivers, download ( and verify md5 ) an older 4.2 build, fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system ( the blob file unpacked ) THEN use motochopper.

Are you trying while the factory rom is up and running? If so, You need to be in fastboot mode ( power on holding vol down ). Then try fastboot. You should have asus fastboot come up as a device inside of your device manager.
