(Q) a bit confused after flashing rom on my NEXUS 4 - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
sorry, im still new to rooting and everything..i've done some basic steps and it appeared that i've rooted my nexus 4 just awhile ago..
after i've rooted my phone, busybox and superSU appeared on my app tray..i've done all the necessary steps and then i wanted to flash a custom ROM onto my phone..i flash Paranoid Android 3+ the latest release which is 3.15..i've done the required steps to flash and i've succeded in flashing the rom..
now, the problem is, i've watched one of the tutorial's on installing this custom Paranoid Android 3+ rom and i saw that man's app tray does have superSU app but mine DOES NOT.
what does this means?..did i do anything wrong?..is my phone not rooted anymore?..i'm a bit worried actually..or is it normal?
i'm a bit confused..pls help me..is there any way to fix this??
thanx!

Using the custom recovery, reflash the ROM then gapps again..

You may just need to reinstall superuser.
Try installing a root permission required app from the play store( SuperUser). If it works you still have root permission and just download a SU app from the play store. If that doesn't work or says root permission required you somehow managed to unroot yourself. You'll have to repeat the process of rooting if its the latter of the two.

Try downloading a root checker from the play store and check. If you just need the superuser files...google is your friend.

Thanx all..i did tried using the custom recovery and reflashing the ROM again.. the superSU app does not appear..so i just install the superSU app from play store..

Don't follow YouTube videos. They are normally out of date. Your issue maybe that alot of AOSP based roms no longer use a stand alot SU app but have it built into the roms itself. This would bbe why you don't have an icon. Check your system settings for super user

[Q] SuperSU not listed after rooting Nexus 7

Yesterday I successfully rooted my Google Nexus 7 using the Nexus 7 toolkit. I noticed that Busy Box and SuperSU were among my apps. I then successfully installed the LiquidSmooth v.2.5 ROM. I then restored a device backup that the toolkit made (option 2). Now I don't see Busy Box or SuperSU listed in my apps.
Is this a problem?
Thank you very much!
Shouldnt b a problem

This shouldnt be a problem at all. SuperSu can b rewdownloaded from the play store, but it isnt needed in my opinion. U are from what it sounds like still rooted, even though u dont have super su. The reason I can tell is that u were able to flash a custom rom.
Yeah you can download superSU from the playstore and the busybox also from the playstore. It happens with me to when i flash a custom rom, they get deleted. instead of superSU- superuser gets installed. man- just download them fromplaystore- it is very simple!!!

Thank you for the replies! I tried a test and downloaded My Backup Root from the Play store, installed it, and performed a backup. The app called for superuser and looked for busy box. It said it found both and the operation completed successfully. So, I guess this ROM has superuser or supersu and busy box included in the code.
Thanks again!

You can use this to flash recovery image. : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=acr.recovery.installation.utility&hl=en
I would suggest using this recovery : http://www.4shared.com/zip/nJtjKoAu/AmonRa_306_Recovery_ThunderG.htm
Assuming you're using a Windows PC, you can also use Android Flash Recovery, link is in my signature.
As for ROM Manager, I highly suggest forgetting about it. It hasn't worked correctly for our devices for a year or so. You may want to check out the LG Optimus One FAQ also. It can be found here.
yeah, use shinobisoft tool, great that the site to download is back again

[Q] Unable to root my OPO! [SOLVED]

So I have watched lots of tutorial videos, used toolkits, etc. but I am unable to root my OPO!
I have unlocked the bootloader and flashed TWRP.
I have flashed SuperSU from TWRP 5-6 times, it says it is flashed successfully, but when I reboot, I don't have root.
I have also tried downloading a pre-rooted stock rom and flashed it but it had the same result!
Any ideas anyone? Btw I am on the latest stock rom (30O)

Here is the best root thread here. have you tried flashing Calks pre-rooted rom. Once you flash this there is no need to flash supersu. Give it a try

Are you planning to use a custom ROM or what is the goal you're trying to accomplish?
I understand that you're trying to root. But what ROM are you planning to use with ROOT?
Try a custom ROM, do the following
1. Download your ROM, Gapps (if needed), custom kernel (if you want), supersu http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
2. Put it on your phone
3. Boot into TWRP
4. Factory reset
5. Flash ROM, Gapps, custom kernel, supersu
6. Reboot
... and you should have root.

I read that, I was suggesting try another flashing custom ROM. I know Mahdi ROM has SuperSU built in but just incase never hurts to flash it.

Ok, it does not hurt to try them all if need be. Just the way your post read I am sure he would of said he tried a custom rom but trying more than 1 is something I hope he at least did prior to posting.
OP how many roms have you tried?
Also when your phone boots up, give it a good 1-2 minute before you check if you have root.
Download the SuperSU from the link I provided in the previous post.
Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck to check. A pop up will appear asking if you want to grant or deny access, grant it.
ok so I found the solution to my problem after flashing supersu using all available recoveries several times!
I unchecked the option "Respect CM root settings" in the SuperSU app and it worked!
btw I can't find a root access setting in the Developers Options. can you guys see it?!

Depending what ROM you're using, its missing built-in Superuser. Just use SuperSU

As far as I'm aware on 4.4.4 the only way to get root is by flashing via custom recovery, this may sound like a hard task but it is actually very easy.
First your bootloader is unlocked so step 1 is already done.
Now just follow the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395 as it will tell you how to get a custom recovery and root.
Also if you dont want root then everything is done, your device has no root and the SuperSU app can be uninstalled via the system app manager, your bootloader status is not your root status
Hope I could help and good luck with your Nexus 7 (2012)

Uninstalling SuperSU in system DOES NOT remove root, it just takes away the app to restrict/grant access to root

Perform a complete factory reset by reverting it to stock android, e.g. get the standard factory files/ROMs and flash them to the device

SuperUser denied

So I flashed CM 11 and I am really enjoying this ROM. When initially setting up I mistakenly let Google restore my apps. I was not aware that SU was already built into CM 11, so I ended with SuperSU and SU installed at the same time. A few of my rooted apps were allowed root access, but now every time a new app ask for SU permission it is denied.I have deleted SuperSu and rootchecker says I have root.
Does anybody have a suggestion?

Thanks for the reply. This worked. Is their a problem using SuperSu while SU is running as a system app...should I try to delete SU?

Not that I know of. I've been using SuperSu all the time. I prefer it because:
I paid for it, so I want to get my money's worth!
Chainfire seems to always be on top of the latest fixes, including how Lollipop may have to require custom kernels, which means unlocked bootloaders. Uh oh.
