As far as I'm aware on 4.4.4 the only way to get root is by flashing via custom recovery, this may sound like a hard task but it is actually very easy.
First your bootloader is unlocked so step 1 is already done.
Now just follow the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395 as it will tell you how to get a custom recovery and root.
Also if you dont want root then everything is done, your device has no root and the SuperSU app can be uninstalled via the system app manager, your bootloader status is not your root status
Hope I could help and good luck with your Nexus 7 (2012)

Uninstalling SuperSU in system DOES NOT remove root, it just takes away the app to restrict/grant access to root

Hello,
sorry, im still new to rooting and everything..i've done some basic steps and it appeared that i've rooted my nexus 4 just awhile ago..
after i've rooted my phone, busybox and superSU appeared on my app tray..i've done all the necessary steps and then i wanted to flash a custom ROM onto my phone..i flash Paranoid Android 3+ the latest release which is 3.15..i've done the required steps to flash and i've succeded in flashing the rom..
now, the problem is, i've watched one of the tutorial's on installing this custom Paranoid Android 3+ rom and i saw that man's app tray does have superSU app but mine DOES NOT.
what does this means?..did i do anything wrong?..is my phone not rooted anymore?..i'm a bit worried actually..or is it normal?
i'm a bit confused..pls help me..is there any way to fix this??
thanx!
Using the custom recovery, reflash the ROM then gapps again..
You may just need to reinstall superuser.
Try installing a root permission required app from the play store( SuperUser). If it works you still have root permission and just download a SU app from the play store. If that doesn't work or says root permission required you somehow managed to unroot yourself. You'll have to repeat the process of rooting if its the latter of the two.
Try downloading a root checker from the play store and check. If you just need the superuser files...google is your friend.

Thanx all..i did tried using the custom recovery and reflashing the ROM again.. the superSU app does not appear..so i just install the superSU app from play store..
Don't follow YouTube videos. They are normally out of date. Your issue maybe that alot of AOSP based roms no longer use a stand alot SU app but have it built into the roms itself. This would bbe why you don't have an icon. Check your system settings for super user

You can use this to flash recovery image. : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=acr.recovery.installation.utility&hl=en
I would suggest using this recovery : http://www.4shared.com/zip/nJtjKoAu/AmonRa_306_Recovery_ThunderG.htm
Assuming you're using a Windows PC, you can also use Android Flash Recovery, link is in my signature.
As for ROM Manager, I highly suggest forgetting about it. It hasn't worked correctly for our devices for a year or so. You may want to check out the LG Optimus One FAQ also. It can be found here.
yeah, use shinobisoft tool, great that the site to download is back again

You'll need to ask a better question. What are you trying to do?
Rooting to get superuser access?
Wanting to install a custom ROM?
Installing a rooted custom ROM is pretty simple - grab the ROM, install ODIN, and flash it.
you have to flash cwm recovery using odin
then install the root file from recovery
stock recovery will not work

hi. if you just want to root your phone/tablet and have superuser access, i recommend you use chainfire"s CF-AUTO-ROOT. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957160
it installs supers binary and remains the tab's stock recovery. if you also want to install a custom recovery, just find a cwm file that's compatible with your tab and start flashing it thru odin. i hope i was able to help and if so PLEASE click "THANKS".

I wouldn't say that there are lots of ways wherein you can root your tab. as almost all or all uses ODIN (as ODIN is for Samsung) and the steps are quite a like.
i'm glad that chainfire's CF-AUTO-ROOT worked on your tab. if ever you wish to install a custom rom, you first need to install a custom recovery on your tab. in my case, I installed CWM.

But my brother told that this will make my device very slow and bad.. plus the warranty will be gone and so it will be of no use of unroot as
that will still let the manufacturer know that my device is rooted and cannot be serviced.. Also its battery will be less.

on the contrary it will speed up your tab. example, if you install CM on your tab. CM is more updated than stock android and CM is also more secure as developers of CM(cyanomodgen) are focused on developing roms that are fast in performance and good in security and another way of speeding up your tab's performance is thru installing apps that makes you control clockspeed, you can overclock and underclock(possible if rooted). plus, rooting can extend your battery life by hours - this is made possible by root apps for battery like greenify, it lets you hibernate all apps that are running in the background thus they wont consume processor time and ram.
about warranty, if ever you flash a custom rom in your tab and want to get back to warranty you just have to flash stock firmware in your tab and install chainfire's triangle away so that you can reset you binary counter to 0 again. rooting is completely reversible.
by the way before I got my tab rooted, I usually charge it everyday but now my battery lasts for 2 days try it for yourself.
PLEASE CLICK "THANKS" IF I HELPED YOU.
Here are your answers:
1. ROOT is not dangerous to your tab. But you will not receive the Samsung Official Firmware via OTA.
You have to download the zip file of the official firmware and then install/flash via ODIN to get your tab updated.
2. Using custom ROM, you will VOID your device.
3. It is highly recommended to install a custom recovery like CMW on your tab before flashing any custom ROM.
4. For battery life it is recommended to use light custom ROM.
5. If you want to use custom ROM then I recommend instal/flash the stable version of ROM because they don't contain bugs or errors.

Also i an not able to find the Superuser SU tool that was previously available on XDA.
Can anyone help me out in replacing the app with the chainfire SU app?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem. With unlocked bootloader you can try the following...
Flash the new "Phantom Kernel V3" to get CWM-recovery
Backup your system via CWM
Wipe cache and dalvik
Flash my "SuperSu.zip"
Reboot
If SuperSU is working you can deinstall the chinese Superuser...
Hope that helps...

I used the motochopper instead. I automatically installed chainfire SU into the mobile. I then simply updated the binary and uninstalled the chinese superuser.

Very simple bro. Just install root browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree)
Place the superuser apk in your sd card
And then, by using it goto system/app and paste the superuser apk in it & delete the previous chinese su after granting the permissions
After doing so, restart the mobile.
Thats it, simple
its easy to replace dat chinese super user app.just download supersu and open it and it will ask for su update.tap install, normal install then it will ask automatically for removing the other superuser app i.e. chinese super user app.then urdone.no more chinese super user app

When you had rooted originally, how did you root? (are you sure you were rooted? If not, you will need to check whether your bootloader is unlocked. If you were rooted, your bootloader should be unlocked - unless you relocked the bootloader after rooting for some reason)
Did you flash a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM? If so, you should be able to copy the SuperSU file to your phone (any where), and reboot into custom recovery (hold down power and volume down when phone is off, and select recovery option) - once there, just select the option to install SuperSU.
If you don't have custom recovery, you will need to flash that first using ADB sideload - this link has more details about how to install custom recovery and root. (again, assuming you have an unlocked bootloader. If not, you will need to unlock bootloader, which will wipe your phone - all data will be wiped out)
Read the first post in the link I provided - carefully
