So, I've had my sensation for a week, it was nearly perfect. But I wasn't sure that it was the best unit, cause battery was used fairly quick, GPS kinda weak, and a slightly washed out screen. I took the 14 day advantage I had at Walmart, and just today headed out there after work to grab the last unit they had! I called like 5 diff. walmarts but only that one had one unit.
Even the box was in such pristine condition, compared to the one I bought earlier, even though both were new. The first box had a date of 5/27. This new one has 6/3, so I'm hoping the June units might be better. Both Taiwanese. I haven't even opened my new Sensation yet, feel excited all over again
Anyways, to come to the point, how did you all start using you new phone, did you just take it out, turn it on, and use it? Or kept it off, charged it all the way, then use it? The reason I'm asking is cause the first one I had, I kept it off and charged it all the way. During that process, the phone got extremely hot towards the bottom, I mean hot like I've never ever seen in any phone before. And it pretty much stayed that way for atleast 2 hours straight. I'm thinking that I maybe messed up the battery up, cause too much heat can damage them. What do you guys think?
Edit: Another thing on my previous phone: the battery gauge was wacky. I would use if for hours and it would stay at 100. Then suddenly show like 85 or something.
usually I will leave it off and charge it fully before using it. This time I turned it on right away, let it drain then charged it fully while off. I've only had my sensation less than a week so really cant ccomment on battery life. When you first get a phone though battery life will be worse because you play with it tons when you first get it
Charged it before turning on & it never got hot
Yeah, mines seemed like a fluke, I've never had a phone do that before. This time, I'm thinking that I'll prolly turn it on before charging just to be safe.
My first two, I did. This one I used right away and today it's been unplugged for 11 hours and I'm still at 47%
I play with it until it fully dies, then I let it charge all the way; for the batteries sake. It last much longer that way.
I couldn't wait for it to charge completely.
I wasnt even out of the T-Mobile parking lot before I had my sim card in it and was messing with it lol.
Could you please tell us how your new phone is? I'll update my post when I check my box for the date but my battery does heat up and my power button is the slanted one.

also what panel is it?

Exactly....that's what most all manufactures recommend. I didn't notice it in the Sensation's manual, but I know I saw it in my G2X's manual.
For the last 5-6 devices I've had, I always run it dead from the box, then let it fully charge to 100%. As far as I can tell that really does help either calibrate the driver or condition the battery. I also do that pretty much every time its convenient.
I've never just charged it straight from the box.
I've always had great great battery life, under heavy use, for every phone I've had using that method.
I really don't know how important it is, but I know I've never had any of the battery issues that it seems many have with various devices.

Great advice, however I wanted to ask you that when you charged it back to 100% the first time, did you keep the phone off all the way? Also, did you perform any kind of a hard reset on it, and if you did, at what point?

I will surely report that info as well as panel info tomorrow after 7PM, as its late, and I havent opened the box yet. I was still trying to figure out the best way to start using the phone, as I didnt want to repeat the mistake I made last time.

No, I let it die...plug it back in, turn it on.
Some people do factory resets out of the box....I never have (out of the box)...
I get easily a full day, 14-16 hours, with consistent use. WiFi always on, gps on when needed, tons of web activity, light gaming, 100+ texts, dozen or so calls. That's pretty normal.
The Sensation seems to go from full to 90% in a hurry, but then really levels off. No idea why, but it's undeniable with mine. Also, this phone is by far the best I've ever owned when it comes to idle power consumption. I'll regularly leave it unplugged while asleep and it might go down 5% at most.
That's my experience.....hope it helps.
Hoggles, thx so much for your insight. So after reading quite a few pages on other forums, especially the IPhone ones, I think I'm gonna fire it up and drain it & then charge it fully while its off. Now the only thing to figure out is when to factory reset the phone, as soon as I first turn it on, or after it has fully charged? Also, when fully charged, is it best to unplug it and then start it, or start phone while plugged in, and then remove the power cable once it comes up?

I really don't think ya have to get that nit picky...as far as when or how to unplug.
Pretty simple and hard to go wrong....
Out of the box....use it til it shuts off on its own
Plug it in....
Turn it on if ya need to receive calls etc...
Let it charge to 100%...
You're Golden
Repeat whenever you have the time...once, twice a month works for me.

If somebody helped here, go back and hit the thanks button. It's a small gesture, but it lets the poster know you really liked it
I'm also use it out of the box until its battery drain and warning indication come out. Then I charge my battery.
I facing a weird condition during charging, where its goes up to 80 or 90% fast, but then to reach 100% very slow. It took 3.5 to 4 hours for my phone to reach 100%!!. I already use my phone for 15 days.

This is the "proper" way to condition a Li-Ion Battery. it's best for the battery life during every day use and into the long term. Ideally you should use it until it get's down to about 2-3% then charge fully, and repeat at least 2-3 more times. Your battery will thank you for it.
I had started to think that this tried and true method was NOT working on my sensation and then today, almost one week precisely after I'd gotten it I saw a huge, noticeable difference in battery life over the first 3-4 days.
Condition your batteries people! You and your phones will thank you for it!
I got the phone at Walmart the first day it came out and used it then charged it all the way.
Phone got very hot and I can not get it to last more than 6hrs on a charge no matter what I try.
(No GPS No WiFi No extra apps......you get the point)
Trying to return the phone to Walmart but they don't have any.
Something is definitely off her but I don't know if it's the phone or the battery.
Hi all
Installed 8.6.5.19 last night. My batteries were 97% TF and 92% dock - did full switch off incl setting airplane mode BUT left tf and dock connected. This am - 12 hrs later - tf is 100% and dock 65%.
I was hoping that this latest firmware might improve the dock battery loss when connected but fully switched off not sleep mode ?
For info - my tf and dock are both very early B40's - I never bothered with the rma/hardware fix - my personal workaround is simply to take tf off the dock when not using!!!!!!
Any advice/comments please?
I have the same model dock as you and you should send it in for RMA. Since i got mine back 3 days ago i Can leave it docked and the battery barely drains while making the TF101 look stylish and complete just sitting there or charging. It really makes a huge difference.
Removing the dock just to conserve power is a small workaround without any real benefits . You still need to carry around the dock if your traveling around outside your WiFi zone or just visiting family. Its one extra step to something that can easily be fixed by sending it in and having the unit behave as it should. All that does is ignore the issue, not a real fix. Its like having a slow ice maker in your refrigerator that you start not to use as much ice in your drinks to avoid the problem of getting a repair man to fix it.Since i got mine back im extremely happy with it and the battery power drain is nonexistent.

If it could've been fixed in the firmware, don't you think Asus would've done so, rather than having docks RMA'd for repair?
The *only* solution is to RMA your dock. I did with mine, and now it works brilliantly.
Regards,
Dave
Yep you need to RMA, ASUS has already stated they cant fix the early docks via software/firmware.
You should definitely get it RMA-ed. With the new firmware, I left my TF docked for 20+ hours sitting in my car the other day. When I came back and turned it on, cpu spy reported 98% deep sleep. Only lost may be 8% or so of battery.
As stated the dock has a hardware flaw and needs RMAing. I have a B40 dock (B30 tablet) and once RMAed the dock works flawlessly.

I was very surprised also. The new firmware actually allowed for deep sleep due to the fact that I can set the damn wifi to turn off when the screen is off and not have to restart.
So, I guess the goal should be to do something so the damn thing will go into deep sleep.
Thanks for the replies everyone - much appreciated. So RMA it is.
A quick further question please. ( aimed at the uk based amongst you) I just looked at asus uk rma page - they ask you to pick a form from a choice of Notebook/pda/eeepc/lcd. I presume the TF is eeepc rather than notebook!!! ( though in the dock it does look like a notebook to me!) More seriously - do I send back the dock alone? or is it TF AND dock - I have seen conflicting advice on other forums.
Thanks again.
Yeah, the Transformer is eeepc and you only send the dock back
Hi folks,
I've been struggling for weeks to figure out why my TF300T started draining battery so quickly during sleep (e.g., 20-30% overnight). After lots of research, setting tweaks, use of diagnostic and battery-saving apps, having my SD card in vs out, hard reboots, factory resets, etc. it seems the problem is simply that the unit generally does not enter deep sleep. Furthermore:
Using Deep Sleep Battery Saver to try and force it to deep sleep
Using CPU Spy to view time in deep sleep and
Using GSam Battery Monitor to view time in wakelock
it appears that if my unit plugged in either via the charging cable or into the dock and I have DS Battery Saver working, the unit goes happily into deep sleep as logged by CPU Spy. If, however, the unit is not plugged in it will get no more than a few seconds in deep sleep, if any, and the elapsed time instead will accrue to time kept awake due to "battery_cable_event" as shown in View Kernel Wakelocks using GSam Battery Monitor.
Googling "battery_cable_event" and related terms did not get me very far. I did find a thread on the XDA forums where someone speculated that this process was causing them the same problem (i.e., preventing deep sleep), but other than 1 other person saying they had the same issue, there was nothing more about it I could find.
Does anyone have any information at all about what might be going on here or a potential solution? My tablet is rooted but unlocked and stock ROM. Is it possible that a custom ROM would not have this issue? I can of course provide more info on what I've done but I didn't want to get too long-winded. I'll just end for now by pointing out that my tests have been done even fresh after a factory reset with no apps run other than the above-mentioned ones so I could see the numbers. It does not appear that I have a draining apps issue, that is.
Thanks very much in advance to the community for any assistance.

Just an update: I talked with ASUS tech support and the fellow was actually fairly knowledgeable and as helpful as I could expect under the circumstances. He understood all of what I tried and did not suggest a bunch of silly things to try. He says there is no record of anyone contacting them with a problem related to battery_cable_event and that he thinks it means a chipset problem, i.e., hardware, since testing right after a factory reset didn't help. Unfortunately, since I bought my tablet in June 2012 it is out of warranty, so I am out of luck. The info is getting passed up in case it's possible that this kernel process could be misbehaving for a reason that can be fixed without having to send it in and have the motherboard replaced. Doing that would cost almost as much as buying one of these today.
If anyone has suggestions I'm all ears because I'm stuck with the tablet and a dock and the former is out of warranty anyway.
tf300t
Hi friend, i have same problem. Only thing that helped was airplane mode. On 4.1 my tf go to "sleep of death" and now on 4.2 he wont sleep
Hope this will work for you too.
Thanks, all. My sort-of workaround is that when I have the tablet plugged into the dock that counts as "plugged in" so I just try to have it docked whenever I want it to sleep so it doesn't drain extra fast. This is not a solution to the problem, but doing the best I can with what I've got.
Cheers.
I realize there are several threads about battery life, and I apologize if this has already been posted, but I'm in full-on battery drain mode right now and am having a crisis. Is there a thread that addresses this or a quick fix? Any suggestions? I've dropped 38% in an hour with 20 minutes screen time. It's been great for the week leading up to today. I've already powered down the phone. I could stop Google Now, but this hasn't been an issue all week. Not sure why it randomly would start one now. Thoughts? All help appreciated.
Haven't logged in in a few years but account is behaving as of it's a new one. I used the original Galaxy Tab 10.5 boards frequently.

I would think you have a app thats constantly running looking for GPS or syncing data.
Thats with just over 2 hours screen on time and GPS being used constantly for 20 min on my run.
Also if your in poor signal area or roaming a lot you'll burn through battery.
Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on. I decided to clear the cache for Google Now. I also turned the phone off and am powering it to 100%. Once it reaches a full charge, I am going to remove the battery, hoping for some kind of reset. I'll then let it fully load for a few minutes before checking on it.
Like I said, it was working perfectly for over a week, but for some reason, it went into battery drain freefall mode. I thought it was aggressively falling upon waking this morning because it had 98% before I went to bed last night and when I looked at it after using it for an hour this morning, it was around 60ish%. I fast-charged it back to 98% before heading out the door for an appointment and turned on bluetooth so that I could listen to music in my vehicle. When I got out of my appointment an hour later, it was back down in the 60s and I was totally confused. The music had been shut off and the screen was not on. The back of the phone felt pretty warm too.
I agree. Some process must be running endlessly. When I had this issue with a G2, I was able to pinpoint it as having something to do with Google Play Music and was able to fix that by altering some settings. In this case, it looks like the culprit is either Google Now and / or Android, but as I said before, it doesn't make sense to me that it would start happening out of the blue like this when it wasn't occurring before. Usually screen is (understandably) my biggest battery drain. I don't recall seeing Android responsible for over 20% like that before, outperforming the screen that much in the battery drainage department.
I'll report back once it is fully charged and I get a feel for whether the issue went away.

You can also try downloading CPU spy, it's a app that'll show if your device is going into deep sleep properly. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy.realgpp
Way-too-early impressions are that it is back to normal. I have no idea what happened. I read in the Battery Life thread a little bit ago that some were suspecting that flip cases have caused some issues. That might be relevant here as I do have a flip case even though it didn't give me any problems. I was, however, messing around with it last night because I purchased a Scosche Magic Mount and was trying to determine where to install the large plate only to discover that it didn't fit properly behind the flip case backing. This fiddling caused me to pull the battery and take the case off, among other things. I'm wondering whether the case was properly re-installed.
Another possibility is that I use UCCW for a Google Now widget and while it has worked perfectly with my previous two phones, with the Note Edge, it doesn't appear to activate the Google Now screen even though it acts as if it is listening for you. Even though I terminated Google Now when that happened this morning, I guess it could have played some kind of role.

Thanks! I'll check it out!
So far, I have lost 4% in 20 minutes. While that's not "great," that's about where I was. I don't use powersaving mode and use my device pretty moderately. I can usually get through most of the day without a charge.
Hi all,
I've been getting a Strange issue with my OPO. Usually during the day I have to leave my phone in a desk drawer while I'm off elsewhere. Usually I put airplane mode on, or disable data to save battery but not always. 9 days out of 10, the phone is fully charged except for some usage on the way in (web browsing) so its down to about 90% when I get to work.
Sometimes when I pick it up for lunch, it's displaying the Oneplus logo screen you get on turning it on, then it proceeds to boot up. The phone is also very hot. When it does boot up, the battery is drained down to 2-3%! Basically the battery graph has a huge gap in it (see below) and I can't determine what's been happening in the meantime.
What's very strange is, I pick the phone up as it's starting, then it boots OK and works fine. I don't know what it's been getting up to in the drawer, boot looping or sitting at the start up screen, but as soon as I interact with it, it stops.
I was running oxygen os 2? I think when i stated getting this, now on Sultans CM13 and unfortunately it happened again yesterday. It doesn't happen very often, but annoying when it does!
I took screenshots yesterday after it happened, I'll attatch later. Basically there's normal battery drain until I get to work, then a huge gap, then back on and the battery is at 2%. I don't know of any way to see what was going on in that blackout period. Google play services seems to be wide awake all the time I'm using it, and it seems to go off as soon as I get to work. I will check early on today.
Does anybody have any clue what's going on? Is there something I can look at or install and try and diagnose what's happening? It's a weird one for me!
Cheers
This happened when you didn't put it in airplane mode? If so, that might just be your issue if you're leaving the phone in a drawer all day. The days I spend working in a building where I don't get cell service, I notice a significant battery drain. This is an Android issue, best to my knowledge. When there's little to no service, the phone spends an inordinate amount of energy trying to find better service. Similarly, I once tried an aluminum bumper style case for my phone and found significant battery drain due to the case blocking cell service a fair amount.
If, however, this happened after turning airplane mode on, I don't know what to tell you... That's very strange behavior. Either way, if you're not using your phone all day, you might as well be turning it off to save the battery.

I can do yeah I suppose, but most of the time data turned off drains very little and that's much easier to out back on. Plus I see who's been trying to call me.
I wondered if it was something trying to ping the network, google play services seems to go into overdrive just before it restarts or the battery chart has no data (awake for 4 hours), but I thought it should be aware of being in flight mode no?
Wish I could add my screenshots but I'm too junior. I'll go find some threads to contribute in
