[Q] TF300TG Black Screen - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My TF300TG was working fine yesterday, left it on charge over night - and now the display won't switch on. The power light is full green when plugged into the charger.
I've hard reset it, plugged it directly into a PC and when i attempt to switch it on - the PC recognises it - and after a minute or so, (i guess once its booted) the sd cards show up as a device - and i can browse their contents
I've tried to boot without a sim card or micro sd but doesn't make a difference
The screen remains black - I don't even get the asus logo, or even see recovery options
Anyone have this problem before? I'm guessing its a hardware problem?
I'm in Cambodia, there's no Asus support centre here (Closest is Thailand) or reliable post - so sending it back for warranty repair isn't a viable option.

When I had this, it helped to hold down the power button really long. Trying a couple of times usually the Asus boot screen appeared and it was all fine.
Not sure, if it helps, as you tried a reset before, but always worked for me.
Sorry, no other ideas...

I've had an Asus tab do it to me where the PC would see its content though the board is dead. At this point, it could be anything, from components to processor to NAND. If you have a micro HDMI cable, try hooking it up to a TV or monitor. Make sure the TV works with the tab as not all LCD TVs are created equal. Newer ones should do though. If it displays fine, at least you know the tab's lcd screen is not working properly.* If you're game, open the tab up and switch the service button off and leave it off for a few minutes. The reset button was supposed to do that too though I'm not sure for how long. This would refresh the tab, and sometimes that helps. Good luck.
* that the display is not functioning as it should doesn't mean it's bad. Short of being impacted, they rarely go bad just like that, unless the backlight is toast - in which case you'd see the display by shining an intense light onto the screen. You might want to check the cable at both ends (mainboard connector and lcd connector). Since the connectors are small, it's hard to tell if the cable fits all the way in. A loupe would help.

Pulled it apart and tried the on/off switch - no luck - took a look at the connectors and they seemed ok.
I broke my micro hdmi plug a while back - but will try to source another and give that a go
Cheers for the help!

received the RMAed dock, is it "repaired"?

Hi everyone,
so i have successfully RMA my dock to be repaired (B40 series) and got it back after 10 days. apart from a slight deformation around the SD card slot, everything is normal on the surface. there is a page stating that a new part has been used, 90R-OK06IO40000Y, supposedly, Dock IO_BD./AS.
so my question is, how can I make sure it has been repaired, I have already tried, and now with power saving mode, the tab's display does not turn on with any keys (not even the lock key), just by the power key on the tablet itself.
is there any way to do it? by the way, it asked to be updated immediately after I connected it to the tab, and now it shows a 213 firmware, is it new?
many thanks

Based on what you described, your dock is fine. It may have come back with an earlier firmware. Checking for updates is the best you can do.
You can put your tablet back in normal power draining mode if you require it to wake using a keypress (standby mode I think its called) but that's it as far as I know. I'm waiting for my dock to get back my own self.
I just sent mine yesterday. I think another sure way to check would be to leave the TF docked overnight in the new power-save mode. If I'm not mistaken there shouldn't be any significant drop in the dock battery. Before sending it in mine used to drop some 20-25% over 6 hours, when it was docked and closed (netbook style).

TF101 Won't turn on - Question

I am hoping someone can help...
I have a TF101 tablet that my kids use and we use to play movies on when we travel.
Yesterday my kid was playing a game on it. When it was dinner time she exited the game and pushed the power button to turn off the screen. Now it will not turn on.
It is not dead (the battery was just charged prior to her playing the game). I tried holding down the power button for 15 seconds. I tried Power + Vol down button, Power + Vol up, but nothing! Just a black screen.
Last year the exact same thing happened to the tablet. I was using it, turned off the screen and then nothing! Just a Black Screen and nothing I did worked. It was still under warranty so I sent it to ASUS. They received it, fixed it and shipped it back out to me 3 days later. When I got it back it I noticed that nothing was wiped from my tablet. All my apps, all my data, everything was still there. So, I figured it was THAT big of a problem that they had to do a Hard Reset or replace my tablet.
That said, since it happened again, I am hoping someone might have a fix for this. It is not under warranty anymore and we are going on a trip in 1 month and I would love to get it working so the kids can watch movies on it.
Won't it turn on when you connect the charger to it either ?
Faulty power button ?
Yea, nothing.... I plug in the power cable and still just a black screen. (I have 2 cables and tried them both)
I know they are prone to pulling the LCD cable out of the board inside if they are dropped or knocked, the cable is wrapped around the battery which shifts when its knocked and pulls it out
If you're happy to open it up, its an easy enough fix to push it back in
Sounds likely that's what's happened
This is a good teardown video, the cable is the silver one iirc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-6dKsGJ4VY
Thanks, I will give it a try.
Well, I took it apart and the cable seems to be ok. I even removed the cable and reinserted it. Still nothing.
I did not check the other end of the cable (the one that goes under the board) as it would require me to remove a lot more stuff to get to it.
I am pretty sure it is the screen though because if I hold the power button down, after 10 secs or so I can hear a *click* sound. So I am assuming it is still working, just something is messed up with the screen.
I might break it down even more and check out the other end of the cable when I have some more time.
I hope it's not you power button, because request changing part of motherboard (79$)

Plugging in the charger would turn the screen on
---- @op - Does the screen backlight come on ?
If not, if you tilt the TF and look carefully at the screen, can you see an image ?
So apparently I was messing with the wrong cable... I found another video that shows what cable to check. I will be checking it later today, wish me luck... I was checking the silver cable running from under the battery.
Here is the video

Yea that's the cable I thought it was too, my mistake!
I've not had this exact problem so assumed as it was wrapped around the battery that was the cable in question
Good luck!
Well, that was it! Once I opened it up again and looked at the right cable I could see it was pulled 1/2 way out. Plugged it back in and it worked!
Thanks for the help!

Great news!
fix to turn on transformer 101 tablet
I had this problem with my asus and windows tablets. Unplug everything from it including base micro sd card and any usb plugs get an alcohol wipe clean all the charger plugs and sockets don't soak just wipe. When done plug charger to mains power and tablet it should turn on. If the on board battery is flat may take a couple of goes to start. Worked a treat for me.
What to do if I can't see any image or any light?

Hi,
I guess I am having the same problem. So, what should I do if I can't see any image or any light on the screen?
And btw when I press the power button, immediately within 1 second I can hear a click sound.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Tf300 dead after changing digitizer?

I got my tf300 some time ago, and just today i recieved all the components needed in order to change it;note that the tablet was disasembled for more than a month, but before that, the battery was charged, so it remained like a month like that as well i don't have best memory of the disasembly proceedure.
So today, i managed to pack it back (without putting the back cover of the tablet, and tried to boot it, but nothing happened. So i put it on the charger where a sound (charging sound) beeped and a red led turned on (later green).I let the tablet charging for more than half an hour, and tried to boot it again but no sign of life at all.I removed all the screws etc and disassembled it for one more time in order to check if everything was put right.
Both digitizer cables was secured.
Screen cable was fine.
Also i tried to check the on and volume rockers cable and by mistake i ruined the plastic top of the female adaptor, but the cable still fits fine inside (that happened during the second disassebly so it was not the original cause for sure).
Also, i noticed that there is an on/off switch next to the power button. This switch was ON the whole time.
I found a button at the digitizer circuit and pressed it (tablet off).
I've tried to remove the digitizer and try to boot.Nothing happened.
What i am afraid of, is that the whole proceedure make me burn some circuit of the tablet by static electricity or by sort-circuit something by my slightly swetty hands.

Uhh, the on/off button should be always on ON if you are turning on the tablet, always have it like that...
Also, make sure that the digitizer's end is well plugged

"...I found a button at the digitizer circuit and pressed it (tablet off)...". How do you mean? If you're referring to the reset button on the Touchscreen pcb, that usually does not turn anything off, just resets to boot the tab again. In any case, you said "tablet off", meaning it was "on" before that? How do you tell it was on then? One way to find out would be to hook it up to a tv via HDMI. If it comes on, either the lcd or the cable is the problem. I've run into a situation where the tab works (comm. thru PC) but the graphics part is dead, hence no display, in which case the only solution would be a new motherboard as graphics reside within the CPU.
I mean it was turned off before i press the button.I will try to find a cable in order to check it on TV, but if hte GPU is dead how the HDMI works?By the way,i just tried to plug the tablet to my PC, and the PC recognize the device! That probably means that the device is on,but something goes wrong with the display.

If the GPU is dead then of course there won't be any display. But how do you find out? With the HDMI connection.

Screen + Storage Problem

Hello,
Let me make this as short as possible. I have a 3 and a half year old Nexus 5. Just got off a plane 6 hours ago, and when i wanted to check my Facebook the display looked like it failed. I had red vertical lines running up and down the stream and the brightness was extremely low even though the setting in the phone had not changed. All the while, the phone was also impossible to maneuver. I rebooted it, the problem persisted for 5 minutes, and then after a quick lock-unlock, it fixed itself.
About 10 minutes later, when I again tried to unlock my phone to check if things were okay, the display went completely black. If I connect the phone to a charger, the display gets a little illuminated like it's going to start but nothing actually happens, I cannot see anything on the screen. The phone is responsive, if I plug it into a PC it starts charging and the PC recognizes it, but I can't see absolutely anything but black on the screen. Now with the questions:
1) What type of problem do you think this is. Wiring, display, or dead phone and no repair possible? As a best guess at least.
2) Before I take the phone into a service, I would like to know if there's any way I can download the pictures and data I had stored on it that was not yet backed up. As I said, I was just returning from a trip and I have some pictures on it, and while the PC recognizes the phone, it is put automatically in USB Charge mode and not USB Mass Storage Device mode. The phone is NOT rooted and USB Debugging was enabled before it crashed. The phone is up to date with the latest firmware.
Thank you in advance.
Does the touch function work? Is the bootloader unlocked?
If yes to both, you could load twrp, boot into twrp, mount the data partition, and copy off files.
It sounds like a failed screen to me. Was the phone ever dropped or exposed to moisture?

The screen is pitch black. If I touch the screen I can't feel anything or see anything, and I have no certainty I would be in the right menus. The only reaction I get is if I plug it in or reset it. The phone was never dropped, it is still in impeccable condition, no scratches or bumps. It wasn't exposed to moisture either, I wonder if the flight had anything to do with it, pressure and all.
So basically, apart from what you mentioned, there's no other way if my data is not backed up? I will be taking it in tomorrow, hoping for the best.
It's weird that this happened suddenly. The simplest solution may be to place the motherboard into another working phone.
You didn't answered about unlocked bootloader.

It's just the ribbon cable .You can change it by yourself it's too damn easy plus the cable is really cheap
It's either the flex cable or the LCD itself.

It was the LCD. I got a replacement LCD but now even with my brightness to the maximum, the phone still is darker than before. I also got a new battery in it. Is there an option to change the brightness that is hidden, or some kind of power saving option?
Thanks.

Samsung S6 SM-G920F completely dead.

Alright, if you're suggesting anything but manual labour, I don't think you can help me here. But I will try anything to get this junk running again.
Long explanation:
I have acquired a Samsung Galaxy S6 that is dead and non-functioning from one of my relatives in the hope that I could potentially fix it. He even let me keep it if I could find a way to fix it, so this a chance I don't get too often!
Anyways, this is a classic case of "Left it charging overnight, died in the morning" cliché, so I doubt this is anything to do with software, hence the need for a hardware solution.
The only complication with this situation is that the USB is mashed to a state of eternal unfixable limbo.
Someone yanked the charger in too hard and mashed it, although I doubt this was the problem, since the phone lived a good few months after it had broken.
So, the only way to charge it is to use the wireless pad that was also bought with it, which leaves me with the problem that I can't even check if it connects and turns on at all.
The actual problem summary:
- Unit is non-functional, it will not turn on under any circumstances
- I have tried all the button-holding combinations and it has failed to assist
- I don't know if this means anything or not, but when I put the device onto the charging pad, the charging pad recognises that the phone is there and (what I can only assume) it starts charging the phone, since the phone also gets warm after a while
- I have confirmed (with my working S6) that the charging pad is not at fault here
HOWEVER, there is a speckle of hope.
When trying to mess with all the button combos, I had managed to get the phone to light up the notification LED (white), which I automatically know means there is a hardware fault BUT the circuitry is still able to power and detect the fault. I took the phone off the pad shortly after and the light went out, interestingly green and blue going out first and the red coming off a few moments later.
So, I just need some pointers on how the charging pad and the phone's charging circuitry works in order to *attempt* to fix this dead unit.
I'll be honest; I'm not really hopeful, but I'm open to suggestions, After all, I already have an S6. If the other one ended up working, I'd sell it on eBay for £50.
- Melon Chickens, back from the dead.
(PS: Speaking of back from the dead, my S3 mini has been resurrected!)
did you have any luck ,i have the same problem with a note 5 it was working and in the middle of texting somebody it went black and has still to this day come back on .odin reconize mine but when i flash new software it finishs but phone never cuts on just the lite blinks.
