Are you wanting to obtain root on the stock firmware, or are you wanting to install a custom ROM?

I recently had the same problem unlocking--> rooting--> then getting Cyanogen 10.1 on my TF700. Here is my work around.
I was on JB 4.2.1 and followed all the steps with a couple tweeks from this forum
Lessons learned:
Bootloader Variant/Firmware with a .US means North America. You can see what variant your table is by looking toward the beginning of your build number. See here for an example
After using the unlock utility I did not get the USB Icon nor the fastboot option to appear which is required in this forum so i tried flashing back to ICS 4.0 shown in another thread with no luck so I came up with the option below.
Download the Unlock Utility from the link in the first bullet in the forum, which will void your warranty.(FYI it is ok that you are not on ICS 4.0 and are using it with JB 4.2)
Once it is installed you will need to root the device using Motochopper
Now instead of using CWR I used GooManger. Just make sure you create a recovery PRIOR to trying to install any custom ROMS.
Now you can use goomanger since it has root permissions to either download the ROMS and Gapps you want or you can put it SD card manually and select the option install custom.
Be certain that you have selected the options to wipe everything mentioned in the forum. Also be certain to select the correct ROM and GAPPS in the correct order before accepting.
If you get stuck on the Cyanogen Circle or something did not install right you can still power off the tablet by holding the power button.
With the device powered off hold the power button and "Volume -" button then when then when the boot loader menu appears select the first option by hitting the "Volume +" button.
You will then be brought to the Team Win Recovery Project(TWRP) menu so that you can install and wipe everything again or restore back to your recently saved state.
*CYANOGEN MOD USERS* This is where I had issues, but here is the process i used to make everything work. First I installed the Stable Version of CM10.1 from here then GAPPS 20130301 from here. Everything then booted up properly. Next I downloaded the Release candidate cm-10.1.0-RC4-tf700t.zip from here. I then powered off the device. With the device powered off hold the power button and "Volume -" button then when then when the boot loader menu appears select the first option by hitting the "Volume +" button. Now that I am back in the TWRP menu
I installed the Release candidate cm-10.1.0-RC4-tf700t.zip and the GAPPS along with wipeing everythign afterwards I was good to go)

This is how to Root Rogers Samsung Rugby!

Been trying to Root this phone for a couple of days. Finally manged to do it!
Its the Rogers Samsung Galaxy Rugby. The (GT-S5690R) model.
I had to add the (R) in the updater script. Thats how I got it too root.
1. Put the file on your sd-card Universal_GB_ROOT_v5_patched_for_S5690.zip
2. Turn phone off
3. Boot in to Recovery ( press Power, Vol-up, and center button on bottom of phone all at same time. The samsung logo will appear, keep holding all buttons, then the logo will dissapear then re-appear, when it comes back let go of the power button only. The phone should boot into the 3e recovery)
4. use vol keys to navigate through menu, and use center button on the bottom of the phone to select.
5. Select install update from sd card.
6. press on the Universal_GB_ROOT_v5_patched_for_S5690.zip
7. phone should install root, wait till the 'Success' appears, then reboot.
You should find Superuser app when your phone reboots. You are Rooted!!
Now im just trying to figure out how to get a custom recovery!!
Perfect!
This zip file worked perfectly on my Rogers Galaxy Rugby. Many thanks!
Happy to hear

Big problem now though....
So the root went swimmingly, but I got a little too excited removing pre-installed apps. I backed up and removed Samsung Home, and removed and NOT backed up SNS 1.0. The phone will now refuse to boot unless I wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode, but after that it just ends up crashing during the Android wizard start up....
This is a brand new phone, what can I do to restore those apps, and get it back to the way I received it earlier today?!
There is a way to boot into safe mode, head Google mod2extreme and I find the forum for our phones (currently the only one) find advise there

Thanks for the name of that forum! I've found the guide someone posted here: http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=12386 and I've decided to try it.
I'm using the first firmware listed in this thread: http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=11744 (S5690XXKL1 2.3.6 2011 December S5690OXFKL1) mostly because under Country/Carrier it has nothing, so I'm assuming it's more generic than the others. I'm also keeping in mind this is for the 5690, not the 5690R, so it may not work at all. But, worth a shot since my only other recourse is to break down and cry in front of a Rogers attendant to see if he can give me a new one. "Root? What's root? Like ginger?"
I'm using v.1.83 of Odin3, which is listed as supported the 5690.
Downloaded KIES 2.0 from http://www.samsung.com/my/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP - It gave me two DLL registration (COM) errors during installation on Windows. Uncertain if this will end up screwing me over or not.
Be right back, rebooting now that KIES is installed... will edit this post when there's more to report.
EDIT: Yeah, so I ended up trying both Odin version 1.83 and 1.85, with the Marvell .pit file, and the firmware from that thread. I learned that I had to put the phone into Download Mode, NOT Recovery Mode while trying Odin. Even still, nothing worked. I've given the phone up to Rogers and they will try to replace the original ROM, hopefully they won't notice that I've rooted it and really mucked everything up. They said if it doesn't work they'll send it off to Samsung to get it repaired. Anyone know if they find out I rooted it, I'd have to pay for voiding a warranty or anything?
i have the same device hae you manage to get clockworkmod recovery on it?
Does this method erase all personal data/downloaded apps from phone?
Great it worked perfectly...
did you success in installing different firmware?
Thanks again
Thanks a lot, worked like a charm.
Is there a way I can install Clockwork Mod? Rom manager doesn't recognise the s5690r. It gives me the option of selecting the Epic4G or the GalaxyS i9000. will either of these work?
Also, once I get that figured out, is there any roms compatible with the s5690r? I've scoured the webs with no luck. Not a very popular phone, eh?
Thanks again.

Good Day, I am also working on the Bell Canada Version of the Rugby. It is the GT-s5690m model. I am now stuck in a bootloop and don't know how to fix it. I have played around with the root and unroot zip files that have been floating around but I am certain that the bootloop is due to not being able to clear the Delvik Cache. As you are aware Clockworkmod recovery is not supported on our devices. I am unsure how to get it to work. Until then I just keep trying different things to hopefully get this phone up and working. It is quite a rugged device and would be great with a custom rom and recovery. Could you explain to me in layman's terms how I might create a flashable clockwork image to flash via Odin or even through stock recovery. I would love to get this phone up and working. Thanks in advance
Sasktel Rugby
Hi there. I am working on the Sasktel version of this phone as well. I tried to change the model from R to M because this phone is the same as the bell model version but it would not install it. I found it on the external SD card but it will not run the zip file from the 3e recovery. Any ideas why this might be happening?
Thanks,

[A700] Bricked into "Boot image verified failed"

Unfortunately, I've bricked my Acer Tablet after trying to flash this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994294
The installscript finished the flash successfully, but after reboot, the bootloader only shows the message "Boot image verified failed" No booting and no CWM Recovery is available no more. I've tried several times to get into the fastboot mode with pressing the Power Button and Volume Button with the two knobs, but nothing helps. Neither switching the screenlock switch on and off. I figured out by trying, how to get into APX mode, but I don't know, if and how that could help me, solving my problem :/
Before I've tried to flash the ROM, I had CM10 with the Stock Bootloader in Unlocked Mode and CWM 6.0.2.3 Touch installed, but the Aroma Installer seems to have destroyed the CWM and locked my Bootloader again. Is there any way to unbrick the tablet now? Any help would be appreciated

Just let the battery run dry. Then let it boot up normally without pressing any buttons when the battery runs out by connecting it to your charger. Hope it works!
Thanks for the reply. I tried that, but nothing happens, just the indicator LED on the power button turns on orange. The tablet does not boot on itself, if I connect the charger. I have to press the power button, but this results again in "Boot image verified failed"
Edit: Update. I figured out how to get into fastboot. I read something on google, with switching the screenlock switch on and off. That doesnt worked for me: The thing was, to hold the power button AND the volume button with the two knobs, then the tablet starts, to release the power button and THEN, while still HOLDING the volume button pressed, to switch on and off the screenlock button. Then the bootloader starts into fastboot mode, going into androidsdk and typed in cmd "fastboot oem unlock" solved the problem. The ROM starts and everything is fine
Why you don't write into the mentioned thread? There seems to come the issues from then ask there, sorry can't understand why opening new thread instead asking there.
Also the first time heard sucha thing, I also change the rooms from cm10 to Jacobus, back to stock, on cool one and to cm and back, to test everything and try something out.
Never had issues buy this ways

In order to install a JB based ROM, you need the JB compatible CWM. The version of CWM you used is apparently for ICS, so I am a little surprised it worked to install CM10. Where did this 6.0.2.3 come from? Use 6.0.1.5 from pawitp. I've used it and swapped/flashed ROMs at least ten times. Never encountered that issue (or any issue). As a matter of fact, I would just run Vorbeth's EasyRoot as it does all the grunt work for you. I've used it twice and it worked flawlessly.
It is just too late... bad luck for me today, I fullbricked the tablet, after performing a restore with CWM 6.0.1.4. Not bootloader, nothing. Just APX Mode.

Hi I had the same issue after flashing from CM10.1 to CoolOne. However I fixed it by unlocking the bootloader => reinstalling recovery => flashing CM 10.1 back.
Did you have any luck recovering from APX?

No, unfortunately not. I gave my tablet 2 weeks ago to the acer repair service and got it back today. The support said, that they have changed the mainboard and flashed the latest android on the tablet, but they did that on guarantee, so I didn't had to pay something ^^ Now it is running Android 4.1.1 Stock ROM from Acer.
Exact same problem
I am having the exact same problem. I am able to boot into recovery mode but then I get the android laying down with with the red triangle, question mark. My bootloader is unlocked but aftrer the update my screen is stucked on the ICONIA TAB startup screen.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 is frozen

I rooted my tablet a couple of months ago so that I could use the SwitchMe app. Everything was working well until the firmware update this week. After the update the switchme app no longer woked and errors shows for the supersuser app. I tried to re-root the tablet, but the tablet froze up after the download from Odin. It is now stuck on the samsung screen. If I press power for while the logo will disappear and return. Pressing volume down and power does nother, pressing volume up and power puts the tablet into download mode with no option for recovery mode. WHen I try to reboot, I am back to the logo screen. What can I do?
odin again ?
Put the tab into download mode and why not flash CWM from Odin ?? Shouldnt that solve the problem ?

If it's in a boot loop, you might still be able to get into recovery mode, but it's tricky. Basically, you just keep trying and adjusting your timing. It depends on what you flashed with Odin.
If that doesn't work, you still have a few options:
1. Samsung Kies - Go to Tools -> Firmware upgrade and initialisation. Make sure the tablet is NOT connected to the PC yet. It will prompt you for your model number (e.g. GT-P5113) and then your serial number (both are case-sensitive). I think you can find your serial number on the box or possibly on the back of the tablet in very small print. It should then download the firmware and flash it. When it prompts you to put it into recovery mode, put it into download mode and connect it.
2. Download the stock firmware for your device and flash it with Odin. I don't know which model you have, so either look for it in the appropriate Development forum, or get it from SamMobile.
Both of these options should give you a new stock recovery. If you still have problems, then go into recovery and do a Data wipe / factory settings.
Thanks for your response. I have the GT-P5113, BTW. What exactly do you mean by flashing and CWM? I admit I am not an expert by any means on the jargon
I noticed the update this week also. I've looked at reviews for the JB update and I went and disabled it for now. I've already rooted my Tab but I'm not sure I'm ready for JB just yet. Plus with being rooted the official firmware won't download correctly anyways

Ok, I'm not sure what happened, but I did all the things suggestec and all of a sudden the tablet turned back on! I uninstalled switchme and the superuser app. I don't think the tablet is rooted anymore, but I am not sure. I am scared to try and root it again. Is there any issue with rooting and the new updated firmware? My husband and I really liked the ability to have separate profiles. Also it looks as if all his apps are gone.

I've rooted myself with the official OTA from Samsung and there is no issue on my side at least. I'd suggest the official OTA or sungsonic by adi. Either one is running a JB kernel and runs smoothly.
I'd suggest the sungsonic one more because it utilizes SuperSU vs superuser. Just a personal preference on my part but it seems to have less issues.

You can probably flash from the original ROM, which you can download here: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers
Click on Tablet -> Iconia Tab -> A700. Then below, click on OS. You should see a 380MB file. Use that to flash.
This is of course from the UK website and will be regional. But you can probably do the same thing from the Acer website of your region as well. I think there were instructions in the file. But if I remember correctly, it was a straightfoward update which you put on your microSD and let the tablet do the work.
Good luck.
But have in mind that, you can't relock the bootloader again. Only if you are flashing the ICS Stock the bootloader will be locked, but after updating to Jelly Bean it will be re-unlocked again.
Please read the FAQ's here before you flash the ICS Stock ROM, I don't know if you can brick your device with it.
Thank you very much for your interest but I already downloaded form acer OS_Acer_Acer.AV051.A700.RV09RC08.PA.CU_A41J_A.zip but every time I try to install it with cwm the installation its aborted.
At what stage does the installation fail?
Is there a reason in particular you wish to go back to the stock ROM?

Hi, I just got my tablet 3 days ago, the jb stock was working a bit slow rendering some web pages but was flawless, and there are only 2 options the icnionian 2.6 that has some kind of parental control (it doesn't load certain websites) , it has some touchscreen issues and and flash doesn't work well. The cm 10.1 is better but the sound in videos is too low, the tablet gets a bit warmer, it has some wifi problems and runs unstable when you install flash, and honestly none of those two ROMs show a remarkable increase in speed. When I try to install OS_Acer_Acer.AV051.A700.RV09RC08.PA.CU_A41J_A.zip it goes all the way until updating software but it simply says "installation aborted", it doesn't show error 7 or anything like that.
Erm, is it even possible to install an official ROM with CWM?
Can you go to the official recovery/flash modus?:
ICS:
- Press [vol-] + [power]
- Once the tablet vibrated, let go [power] and keep [vol-].
- Once the text that appears on the screen ("loading recovery kernel image"), let go [vol-].

JB:
Boot into recovery:
- Press [vol-] + [power]
- Once the tablet vibrated, let go [power] and keep [vol-].
- Now the tablet vibrates a second time, let go [vol-] and press [vol+] quick
- Once the text that appears on the screen ("loading recovery kernel image"), let go [vol+].

Otherwise try to download the beta ROM, find the recovery.img somewhere in the zip and flash the stock recovery in fastboot mode:
http://klood.me/public.php?service=...0_AV043.RV00RC00_AV043.RV07RC04_EMEA_CUS1.zip
Fastboot boot mode:
- Press [vol-] + [power]
- As soon as the tablet vibrates, let go [power] and play [lock]

Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Note: The fastboot command only works with the appropriate exe and DLL files. You can get them through installing Android SDK or download them individually:
http://code.google.com/p/texasice-c...wnloads/detail?name=adb_fastboot.zip&can=2&q=
Delete the dash(-) and the name of your os and place all the files in the same folder as recovery.img. Then (in Windows) press Shift and click right on an empty spot in the window. Click something like open command prompt here and enter the command with the tab plugged in on the computer with the official (Google or Acer) drivers installed and USB Debugging on (setting in the settings ).
Can't guarantee it'll work or brick your tablet. It's just a wild theory.
Edit:
Oh, and then copy the file to your tablet's root and call it update.zip. Boot the tablet in recovery and it'll install zip file.
Thank you very much for your suggestion buddy but I'm not going to risk bricking my tablet

[Q] Trouble unlocking Transformer Infinity

So I want to install the latest 4.4.4 Kit Kat on my Transformer Infinity because the latest Jelly Bean on it is extremely slow. Through research and google I found that the only way to root it was go back to an earlier version of Jelly Bean. Otherwise the motochopper program was denied access so I was unable to root it. So I found the right Jelly Bean update and stuck it on my SD card and it showed up in the notifications as an update to fall back to. Installed it and the motochopper app worked and rooted the tablet. I tried to use the Asus unlocker tool but it always says to try back later as it is trying to unlock it. Some info on the internet says that app doesn't work with jelly bean some says it does. So I thought i would roll back to Ice Cream Sandwich. In order to do that the info. on the internet says to hold the down volume button along with the power button and you can go to some menu that will allow you to install earlier version of android. Which I have an ICS for the infinity on the SD card. Problem is the volume down button plus power button does nothing. It has no effect. I'm at my wits end here. Everything I have found on the internet doesn't work. I'm fairly new to rooting, unlocking, and installing a custom android. I have done this once for a Kindle Fire tablet and it was MUCH easier then this Infinity tablet.
You do not need to downgrade to ICS (and you can't - at least not with stock firmware) The unlock tool version 8 works fine on JB roms - if it works at all. You really have to keep trying. For some people it literally took 50 tries or more and all the sudden it worked... And for some it never worked. There's no rhyme or reason for this except that Asus is not trying very hard to make this work for us. They enable it, but do not support it.
Google "unable to unlock TF700" and you will get a dozen threads discussing this and a few more strategies you can try.
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk
That was kind of how the root tool worked I had to try it over and over I think about the 5th or 6th time it worked.
Well that was relatively painless then - happy flashing
I'm not quite to 50 times yet but I still get "an unknown error has occured. The network may be down please try again later" error.
So i'm all rooted and unlocked now. I have a snapshot version of 4.4.4 for transformer infinity. The cyanogen mod program says the TF700T isn't supported and aborts. I've tried the Clockwork Rom recovery program and it says the TF700T isn't supported either only the TF200 is it says. What is the best way to install this ROM?
So I tried Rom Toolbox. When the tablet reboots to boot into the recovery where you can install the rom it just sits at the asus logo screen forever. I don't think I have a recovery boot anymore. When I hold the power button and volume down button which is supposed to allow you to boot into recover nothing ever happens.
It's probably a little late, but to install a custom rom you have to install a recovery compatible with your bootloader and the rom you intend to flash.
You flash this recovery (TWRP or CWM) in fastboot, then you can boot into it to install a rom.
If you can't boot into the bootloader with Power and Volume Down and you did not generate nvflash blobs prior to all this, I'm afraid it's a brick.
Try every combination you can think of: Holding the buttons a very long time, use the reset pin hole on the side in conjunction with Volume Down, let it sit for hours and hope it sorts something out.
You need some magic to give you access to the bootloader menu and fastboot - that's your last hope.... Sorry
I can still boot into the version of jelly bean I have on the tablet fine. I did manage to get it to finally boot into a recovery console. it might have been a fluke I tried like 20 times and it finally just booted into it from the Rom Manager program. I tried installing my rom image but it would fail every time. I just rebooted and it went back into jelly bean. No idea what to do from here. The power button and volume down still don't do anything. And I haven't been able to reproduce getting it to boot back into the recovery again. At least it isn't bricked but I hate this tablet so much I might just take a hammer to it and give up.
If you have the time can you walk me through putting a decent version of 4.4.4 on here if it will work? Apparently I either don't know what i'm doing, the guides I have tried online are missing important steps, or my tablet is just "special". I do know that it is rooted and unlocked and that is where its at right now.
This guide seems like a good place to start but I don't see how to get through it when the volume down and power button doesn't do anything

I know when I'm upset with this thing I start doing things wrong....make sure you are actually using the vol down button and not the Up button. It's an easy thing to do when you're in PO'ed mode.
You're lucky to be unlocked! I bet I have run that unlock tool a million times to no avail.....

You cannot use ROM Manager on the TF700!!! That is the fastest way to a hard brick I know on this tablet. Forget ROM Toolbox, ROM manager and all the other tools! You have to get ADB and fastboot working on your computer and my guide you linked to is a good start.
I have no idea why you cannot boot into the bootloader if your rom boots fine????
You are pushing Power and Volume Down until you feel the tablet vibrate TWICE?
Get the ADB drivers installed on your PC and with the tablet booted into your rom type this in a command prompt:
Code:
adb devices
What do you get?

Volume Down and Power yields one vibration and nothing happens after that. I have tried holding them down longer to no avail and released them after one vibration and nothing still.
I would use ADB to push the rom to the tablet and that is what I did with a Kindle Fire a couple years ago and worked great. But your guide still calls for being able to use the volume down and power button. I guess I got a real lemon of a tablet here.
I get List of devices attached

Well that's good. You seem to have ADB access. Try this command:
Code:
adb reboot - bootloader
That should reboot your tablet into fastboot mode. If it does, use this command:
Code:
fastboot devices
That should return a (different) alpha-numeric string and you would be in business to flash. But let's not get ahead of ourselves...
adb reboot - bootloader
That command restarted my tablet.
So just type "adb fastboot devices" at the command prompt?

The correct command is:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader

I took out the spaces between the hyphen. Same thing, it rebooted the tablet right back to the android desktop.

I'm stumped... @_that you have an idea why it doesn't boot into the bootloader? I thought maybe the Volume button is bust - but now...IDK

Is it possible I messed something up when I downgraded from Jelly Bean 4.2.1 to 4.03? The reason I had did that was a guide somewhere for this tablet said the ADB motochopper program wouldn't root 4.2.1. Which I could never get it to work. But did fine once I went to 4.03. I did that by downloading that update from asus's website and putting it on my SD card and it found the update and asked me if I wanted to fallback to an older one.

So what version of Android is now actually running on your device? 4.2.1 or 4.0.3 (which is ICS)?
You also speak repeatedly of some version 4.4.4 you are trying to install - the latest version of Android as of today is 4.4.2.
Note that there are multiple ways to hard brick your tablet if it is unlocked - don't do anything you don't understand.
