Motorola Camera - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Came across this over on Android Forums http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=5688988 and thought I'd share with you guys. This is Motorola's camera app

"With Android 4.2, Google completely revamped the camera experience with a brand new interface and features like Photosphere. While the new UI may seem like a welcome change, it is poorly laid out which can make selecting the intended option cumbersome. The lack of some downright basic options like scenes and timer mode does not help the matter, either. Worse, on the Nexus devices, the camera app has an auto-focus bug that can often lead to blurry photos. While Motorola phones are not particularly known for their camera performance, the camera application on their handsets is perfect for most, with just the right amount of settings. Here is how you can get the Motorola camera app on your Android 4.0+ handset.

The installation process is pretty simple, and just requires you to download and install this APK file on your handset. Keep in mind that you need to make sure that you have enabled the option to install apps from Unknown Sources from Settings -> Security.
Unlike the stock camera app on the Nexus 4 and other Nexus devices, the Motorola camera app features a timer mode, the ability to assign a custom action to a volume key, some basic filters, and the option to select a pre-defined scene. There are quite a few camera apps available from third party developers on the Play Store, but they all have either tons of advanced features that confuse the user, or have wannabe Instagram-like filters that not everyone wants.
"The APK has been tested on a Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2 and a Galaxy S3 running Android 4.1.2, and has worked flawlessly on both the devices. If you find after installing that your flash does not trigger while clicking pictures, just restart your device and this should fix it."

enjoy.
I take no credit for this app... just found and sharing

Looks like it works on Rootbox 4.2.2 as well. Thanks for sharing man. Great find. Devs should start using this in their ROMs

Is this basically just a better version of 4.2 camera. Does the gallery come with it.

I agree... Touchwiz theming has basically been the same for years, they just change the color... From the few things of Motorola I have recently used... I like their ui better... It's a bit cleaner and not so iphonish... but Samsung definitely had better features, specs and options

There's obviously a reason why there are so many themes and mods out there. I think all android is made generic to appeal to the masses. 99% of android users probably have no idea what their phones are capable of. It's good to be able to check stuff out and have options like this posted by Blackness. It's nice to be able to customize our phones and try other things...

i didn't mean it like that. obviously anyone involved in AOSP understands trying new things and experimenting different options. making custom roms i'm sure you're especially looking for the newest and best options out there and giving people as many options as possible!! :cyclops:

OK was a Motorola fanboy og droid, drpoid x, then I got a bionic. A side from the connectivity issue it was a good phone . I preordered gs3 to keep unlimited data and fell for Samsung . all of the things I wanted on blur like pulldown toggles, are there in touchwiz. Add in the development aspect and Samsung it is. I was worried about build quality but I have beaten this phone with nothing but a flipcase and no problems.

Just to clarify, Samsung is a South Korean company. The South is a Democratic, Capitalistic country. The North is communist. Big difference.

Yes, the pics look good. But the question is why put out a theme to a Rom that nobody has? This could have just went under the screen shots of your setup thread instead.

Right now, just IRC and his Twitter feed since he just started working on it.
EDIT - It's still in testing I think, Grillrd is just overly ambitious with massive amounts of free time on his hands.
Oh I see so its not an " official Rom " as of right now and only a handfull of people have it??
So again back to my original question.

The Rom can be found in the #charge irc channel. Why would i put something out that only i had? If you aren't frequenting the IRC channel than you are definitely missing out...a lot goes on there lol

Nothing ruffled man, it's all good. I just think anything that is open-source is pretty much continually a work in progress unless it's no longer supported. Publically available releases on IRC, Twitter, etc are all as "official" as it gets as far as I'm concerned. Forums are just one more place to post links to those files. It's not like there will ever be a SKU or warranty with these things.
Not sure if Liberty will ever arrive, Imoseyon is losing/has lost his Charge so may not be able to develop much longer, Imnuts is getting the Nexus, so we're quickly running out of devs for this device. Until there is a new batch of developers, this may be one of the last ROMs developed for the Charge for a while. If Imnuts can get TSM fully implemented and stable, at least we'll have a solid ROM to build themes off of for a bit.

Now you have it. Anyone can get it. Don't mean to be a **** or anything, but as other have said, it's on Twitter. It's not a secret release or anything. It isn't IRC only like some of his previous test releases are.
FWIW, it runs great and looks fantastic all on it's own. I'm not a fan of overly flashy and shiny themes, but this theme is a little too minimal for my tastes.

im fairly certain im going to pick up a charge as it gets cheaper and cheaper on ebay...if imnuts keeps his as a backup for awhile, im sure that we can work on some stuff
I've been running Infinity since last night (and MinimalInfinity) and both are awesome. Smoother and faster than stock EP4D.
Is there a downside? Infinity uses stock EP4D as its base but uses the hacked EP4P kernel. imnuts does this so that he can use EXT4 instead of RFS, making the ROM faster. Since we don't have a working kernel built from EP4D source (yet!), it's impossible to use an EP4D kernel for EXT4 support, Voodoo, or OC/UV.
Why isn't this ROM posted all over XDA and RootzWiki? From hanging out on AndIRC #charge last night, it seems like two things are going on... 1) imnuts and his team are working hard to get TSM Parts working on Infinity without hot boots, etc. 2) imnuts is working to build a working EP4D kernel from source (and I'm sure he'll want it to have EXT4 support at the very minimum).
So, is Infinity a final product? No. Are Gummy GBE or Humble final products either? No.
So, is Infinity better than running stock EP4D right now? Yes.
What's my opinion? As of right now, I think Infinity is the best GB ROM for the Charge. Additionally, I was using DroidBlaze's MinimalGummy on Gummy FE before the OTA hit, so this is an absolute winner for me. Hit up imnuts' Twitter and check it out. If you're rooted, you owe it to yourself.

That'd be awesome. I might start checking ebay out too, I've never gotten up the courage to do anything beyond basic theming because of the potential downtime (or bricking) with my only phone. Definitely would be easier to play when you've got a toy to work on, and it'd be nice to actually contribute some.

I could make the EP4D kernel ext4 as the support is there, but why repack it when it's going to be almost the same as EP4P?
Also, I just didn't have time to go around and update/create posts everywhere last night, but I got a chance to do that today. If it hits Twitter to download, it'll show up elsewhere soon after (or should)

I'm not familiar with development or kernels, so I'll trust your best judgement. I have always heard though that things work best when you're running the build, kernel, and modem all from the same release. That's why I'm keen on getting some kind of EP4D kernel.
P.S. MinimalInfinity has been running awesome thus far. Thanks for your work in getting Infinity together and to Grillrd for the port!
Not sure if this is a theme thing or an infinityrom thing, but is there a tutorial or anything on how to change the power control in notifications? I'm not on infinity, but is there something I can flash/install to be able to change power control?

[Q] Is anyone working on Icecream sandwitch for infuse 4g

My guess is that there is some thread somewhere that talks about this but I can't seem to find one so I will ask anyways.
Is there someone working on getting Icecream Sandwich to work on Samsung Infuse 4G? Is this already available? Am I even asking the right question?
Thanks.

In all seriousness, I seem to recall it being worked on, but that work is useless without a proper kernel. There are many threads, and it is not yet available.

Thanks for the info, but as you've probably guessed, I'm TOTALLY NEW to this. So I'm guessing Jellybean is some sort of version of icecream sandwich? Is there others? What's the difference between them (generally - no need for details)?

Thanks in advanced.

Obviously... I was just pontificating on what the next versions will be called.
ICS
From my understanding, Ice Cream Sandwich would face issues on the Infuse likely due to the lack of a dual core. Yet other phones such as the HTC EVO receive ports of ICS. So it may just be a matter of time. We can just get visual teasers on our Infuses. Me personally, I just use CM7 and ADW Launcher EX and get ICS themes. It looks pretty good actually

horse ****. Google's focus has always been to keep the OS light. they make more speeds and smoothness optimizations than add special effects and ram hogging feature. the reason Samsung might have a problem with it besides the investment in maintaining older devices is that the rom storage might mean big changes to the tw3 ui as the carrier bloat and Samsung bloat already fill the system partition. resizing the partitions would mean big risks in the update.
remember the nexus1 still gets updates and they have no plans to stop that as far as I can tell. the infuse would have zero difficulty with ics but Samsung might have difficulty getting it to fit without rethinking touchwiz and the apps they include. but they could move bloat to /data/app if they really needed to.

Guess the ball's in their court. Here's a burning question tho, should we wait for an official update that may never happen, or should we just consider getting the newer phones i.e. the SGSII or Skyrocket?? The Skyrocket looks just like the Infuse, and has been confirmed to be receiving ICS when the updates roll out.
that depends, how long do you want to keep the next device? I think eventually the gs2 and skyrocket will stop getting updates but the nexus series historically gets all the updates. I'd get a galaxy nexus or something very close in hardware to it, especially if they already have good ports for omap4 powered phones like the bionic and razor and their gsm Motorola relatives(atrix 2 I guess) so maybe look into that, but if you still believe in single core phones I'd get an older phone like an i9000, captivate, vibrant, nexus s, nexus 1 or other htc phones with a snapdragon (singlecore) processor.
the rom stuff can be added in if needed. look at what's been done with the tw4 launcher and Sony arc launcher, also I've seen nexus roms with the Samsung toggles in the pulldown. the video support can be added with 3rd party apps (dice player rules foe this). the mms app can be 3rd party. phones like the galaxy s were nice when they came out but now its all irrelevant. most of the nice stuff can be back ported to aosp.
I have always believed in the aosp movement but never used aosp roms because it took so long to get the bugs fixed on Samsung phones. I'd say base the next phone on existing aosp support because aside from web browsing and high end gaming I have seen no reason to have more power than available from the current single core phones. I was hoping the infuse would borrow more from the i9000 but there are enough differences to make it a development problem and it hasn't attracted kernel devs that could overcome the problems.

Anymore I just use tapatalk.
Xda app is a clone of it, as is forum runner and the few others.
They all have small issues like that - never had a problem with tapatalk itself.

I don't understand.
You are getting a quality product, if anything it's money well spent.
What do you spend money on?
If it's something you will use a lot, it really pays to buy the best one you can get, because every time you use it you will enjoy what that expenditure brought you.
An example - I use a lot of power and hand tools in my job. I save and buy high quality tools. Most of my tools cost 3 to 4 times as much as some of the people I work with.
People who spend $60 on a drill rant and rave about how cheap it was. They just can't understand why i'd pay $200 for the same tool.
Then, we work next to each other and while I am cruising along getting work done, with much less effort because of the more efficient application of power, they are working twice as hard or more to get the same job done.
While they waste time changing batteries every two hours, I run on the same battery all night, and do more work because I don't waste time walking back and forth getting batteries.
I also enjoy the higher level of attention to ergonomics, so 6 hours into the shift when their arms are getting tired from working so hard, I've still got a bunch of energy and a much more upbeat attitude because I'm not all worn out yet.
But, they saved $120 bucks on something they'll have to buy again in a year - whereas I'll get many years out of my tool.
...And even after seeing what the tool let's me do, compared to what they have to suffer with, most of them still can't justify spending 2 or 3 times the money for the same tool.
Of course, if you've absorbed what I just explained, you'll realize it's not really the same tool.
Can you put a price on the frustration and aggravation from using a cheap, substandard piece of equipment, or is what you get from ponying up a few extra bucks once a good investment?
It's easy to know what something is worth. Anyone can google something to find out it's price.
Understanding the value of that something is a completely different matter entirely - the financial cost is usually a small part of that.
The old adage of 'someone who knows the worth of everything and the value of nothing' is what I just explained.
Either you want to use an app that has problems, or you want to invest the time in finding and the couple of bucks in buying something that just works.
Before you decide something is a waste of money, take some time to think about what you get for that money.
Supporting the people that develop quality apps encourages them to keep producing those quality apps.
I've bought the XDA app on 5 different google accounts so far. I don't even use it, I prefer tapatalk. I bought so many times to support the community I've come to think of as one of my homes on the net.
That's maybe another lesson in value.
Some things to think about before you just write something off based on price alone.

Haha I caught that, too! I would love to see improvements in the XDA app though. Right now, when I hit Mark as Read for a forum and back out to my favorites, the thread doesn't appear Mark as Read until I refresh my favorites. This only occurs on my phone and using 2.3.4 ROMs. It does not act the same way on my Prime with ICS or my phone testing ICS ROMs, oddly enough.

My mistake - thought you meant buying tapatalk was a waste of money.
I was trying to explain that concept to someone on shift last night, they just couldn't grasp it, and the argument was on the forefront of my brain.
So, I apologize for the lecture, but the wisdom is sound so I'll leave it there, maybe it will help someone.
Yea, I view the XDA app as a donation to the forum, and they got a lot going on trying to manage this place so I don't hold a few random hiccups against them.
I'd rather time be spent maintaining the forums and site itself then a pretty window to view it through anyways.

XDA Premium FC's a lot. The not loading is caused by a network hick up, causing it time out. But XDA Prem has no idea it did that. Just kill the app, and toogle data on/off/on. I have that issue a lot , that's why I use tapatalk 2. I got it for free during betas I can update via market, and everything
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
I just wanted to say, here is another vote for tapatalk. I resisted buying it for a while, but after trying the beta version, I was hooked. I broke down and bought it, and it is one of the best apps I have ever bought.
My only issue with tapatalk is it doesn't show signatures when you are browsing posts.
Didn't know there was a version 2? I'll have to look into that when I get the time.

Well, after reading this thread, I've decided I'm going to purchase Tapatalk. Sounds like a fine piece of software to me.
A couple of other "Must Have" paid apps IMO are Titanium Backup PRO and Root Explorer. I can't imagine my phone without them!

You'll like it, class A app.
Also agree with Root Explorer - I can't imagine Android without that app.
I have a personal dislike for titanium, though, and refuse to use it anymore. From the dev side all it does is cause headaches and problems.

Haha thanks guys . BTW I got my new laptop too . Oh and I'm going to get the LG Spectrum 2 in a few days or later on this month . I can't wait. I love the blue keys. Went to Verizon today and saw it and ... wow... speechless. I tried trading in my OG Spectrum for it but its still full retail. FU Verizon. Oh well. Ebay is my friend. Wife might be getting the LG Intuition cause she likes the phablet. Its actually really cool when I saw it. Online it looks fugly but in real life its really awesome and the screens on their devices are amazing. The intuition has the quick memo hardware button which is really neat. I pulled the app from the intuition system dump and I like it.
Now onto this Rom , There will be an update as there is a phone problem reported from Mouse24 and he has sent me a fix, I'll be sure to add it this week. So props to him, he's awesome!
Also Trsix reported something on Hexperia is broken. The person couldn't hear him on the phone so I'll have to look into it.
My spectrum is broke. I dropped it and knocked something loose in it. Now on each boot sometimes it wont boot. Sometimes it will. TBH I really don't wanna open it up. I'll just wait to get the 2. It scores 5300 in quadrant beating the HTC One X

[Fix][Solved] Camera Failed after JB update

Ok so I took Verizon'sMD3 update and caused myself a nice little nightmare. I wanted to go back to hyperdrive but when I did my camera was broken. I tried EVERYTHING!!!! Here is how I fixed it.
Download:
Stock pit HERE for the 16gb and HERE for 32gb
Odin 3.07 HERE
Tar file HERE
Warning! I am not responisible if this bricks your phone. Do this at your own risk!
You will go back to stock unrooted. You can reroot and go back to having the root goodness.
Instructions
Open up odin
At this point the auto reboot and f. reset time options are clicked. click PIT and navigat to the pit file you downloaded.
Next click PDA and navigate to the tar file you downloaded
Now your odin should look like the image at the bottom minus the message at the left and pass at the top because you havent started yet.
Now click Start. Once it finishes your phone will reboot. Now you can root if you want or update it and stay stock.

But similar to what the OP stated, if you are really desperate, and without internet, you can also flash all the way back to stock in Odin. I had to do that..
There is a lesson to be learnt here though: Always keep Odin and Odin-Flashables on hand folks!
I heard that Samsung / Verizon have now pulled the OTA and will release a fixed version later, That usually means 1 day for Samsung to fix it, and 3 months for Verizon to test and approve the release.

And that too! Although the recovery flashables didn't help me this time... But it's always worth a shot!
I flashed back to mb1 and the stock camera worked BUT I use the note 2 camera and that stopped working. I flashed the modem, kernel and rom for mb1. I even went further back. I even odin back to mb1. I talked to a few people who tried the same thing. Nothing. For some reason when I took the update it partitioned my phone in a way that broke the camera. I tried everything you guys stated. Says so in the OP. This was the only way I could get my camera back. I needed my camera bad because my boss tried some crap. So I'm thinking this post isn't for the people who could flash back. It's for people who couldn't. Thanks though guys.

No need to be pissy, EVERYTHING is vague. Someone can say they tried everything, thinking they actually might have, but then just missed something small. So if you don't want people telling you to face palm yourself, there is a magical saying... its called elaborate. Be specific. Then people won't question your definition of EVERYTHING.

Wow dude... if you want people to take you seriously at all, you cannot conduct yourself like this. Basically when someone joins a forum their respect level is at 0. It takes time/courtesy/willingness to learn and listen for that to go up. I've been on this forum for a long time now, and I've seen countless people get no help whatsoever because they acted like you just did in your last two posts. You're currently at level 0 with probably everyone who's read this. I would encourage you to take it down a notch and not jump down people's throats. The internet is full of trolls, and no matter what someone is gonna piss you off at some point. Get over it. Also like said before, you can't just say everything because in Android everything doesn't always mean *everything*. That being said, the more info you give in explaining a post, the more helpful. Otherwise you look like the guy who flashed a ROM and just says "It doesn't work, fix it..."
This forum follows the rule everyone's mother taught them: if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.
But more importantly, don't feed the trolls.

I was honestly trying to help you. I wasn't being a smartass when I made the comment about explaining everything. That was supposed to be words of wisdom, but obviously you have too much pride to swallow. I'm glad your way worked. If you didn't want people making you angry, you should've been more detailed. The fact that you want to try a CAPSLOCK war though is pathetic and if you want to be pissed at anyone, be pissed at yourself. Just like Tyler, I've been in these forums a while and I try to help everyone as much as possible. Am I perfect? Hell no, but I don't just flame people because I'm mad that they don't understand my version of EVERYTHING. I hope you have a great time in the community but honestly man. No nicer way to away this (sorry Tyler) but you're a douche bag.

Um just to point it out there's a guide here for people who can't fix their camera. Not an internet discussion for trolls. As a matter of fact I've grown to dislike this forum because of the continuous off topic discussions constantly. Thanks for the off-topic comment bud. Much needed!

It wasn't completely off topic. However, I am/was trying to help you become a better forum member. I happen to love this forum. Yes, you have to wade through crap sometimes, but the people here, if treated with respect, will more often help you. All that was asked was have you tried "x", and you blew up on him. To me it sounds like you were being what you "hate" about this forum. There's also tons of guides, and it seems you were one of the very few people who couldn't get them to work. Next time you have a problem with an "off topic" post, you shouldn't respond with an off topic post. Maybe a pm would suffice.
Also, as stated before in many threads, just Odin back to mb1, or flash the mb1 aio.zip if anyone is still have issues with camper, etc...
