[Fix][Solved] Camera Failed after JB update - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok so I took Verizon'sMD3 update and caused myself a nice little nightmare. I wanted to go back to hyperdrive but when I did my camera was broken. I tried EVERYTHING!!!! Here is how I fixed it.
Download:
Stock pit HERE for the 16gb and HERE for 32gb
Odin 3.07 HERE
Tar file HERE
Warning! I am not responisible if this bricks your phone. Do this at your own risk!
You will go back to stock unrooted. You can reroot and go back to having the root goodness.
Instructions
Open up odin
At this point the auto reboot and f. reset time options are clicked. click PIT and navigat to the pit file you downloaded.
Next click PDA and navigate to the tar file you downloaded
Now your odin should look like the image at the bottom minus the message at the left and pass at the top because you havent started yet.
Now click Start. Once it finishes your phone will reboot. Now you can root if you want or update it and stay stock.

did you flash back to a stock ROM 1st?

Honestly I just flashed the old firmware and it worked again

Yeah no need to go through all of this, if you did facepalm yourself because a simple flash with the md3 modem with mb1 tz solves the issue.

But similar to what the OP stated, if you are really desperate, and without internet, you can also flash all the way back to stock in Odin. I had to do that..
There is a lesson to be learnt here though: Always keep Odin and Odin-Flashables on hand folks!

I heard that Samsung / Verizon have now pulled the OTA and will release a fixed version later, That usually means 1 day for Samsung to fix it, and 3 months for Verizon to test and approve the release.

And that too! Although the recovery flashables didn't help me this time... But it's always worth a shot!

I flashed back to mb1 and the stock camera worked BUT I use the note 2 camera and that stopped working. I flashed the modem, kernel and rom for mb1. I even went further back. I even odin back to mb1. I talked to a few people who tried the same thing. Nothing. For some reason when I took the update it partitioned my phone in a way that broke the camera. I tried everything you guys stated. Says so in the OP. This was the only way I could get my camera back. I needed my camera bad because my boss tried some crap. So I'm thinking this post isn't for the people who could flash back. It's for people who couldn't. Thanks though guys.

No need to be pissy, EVERYTHING is vague. Someone can say they tried everything, thinking they actually might have, but then just missed something small. So if you don't want people telling you to face palm yourself, there is a magical saying... its called elaborate. Be specific. Then people won't question your definition of EVERYTHING.

Wow dude... if you want people to take you seriously at all, you cannot conduct yourself like this. Basically when someone joins a forum their respect level is at 0. It takes time/courtesy/willingness to learn and listen for that to go up. I've been on this forum for a long time now, and I've seen countless people get no help whatsoever because they acted like you just did in your last two posts. You're currently at level 0 with probably everyone who's read this. I would encourage you to take it down a notch and not jump down people's throats. The internet is full of trolls, and no matter what someone is gonna piss you off at some point. Get over it. Also like said before, you can't just say everything because in Android everything doesn't always mean *everything*. That being said, the more info you give in explaining a post, the more helpful. Otherwise you look like the guy who flashed a ROM and just says "It doesn't work, fix it..."
This forum follows the rule everyone's mother taught them: if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.
But more importantly, don't feed the trolls.

I was honestly trying to help you. I wasn't being a smartass when I made the comment about explaining everything. That was supposed to be words of wisdom, but obviously you have too much pride to swallow. I'm glad your way worked. If you didn't want people making you angry, you should've been more detailed. The fact that you want to try a CAPSLOCK war though is pathetic and if you want to be pissed at anyone, be pissed at yourself. Just like Tyler, I've been in these forums a while and I try to help everyone as much as possible. Am I perfect? Hell no, but I don't just flame people because I'm mad that they don't understand my version of EVERYTHING. I hope you have a great time in the community but honestly man. No nicer way to away this (sorry Tyler) but you're a douche bag.

Am I the only one that's wondering why you didn't just temporarily use the stock camera if you needed a camera so bad? Anyways, I flashed just the mb1 .tz and it fixed my camera. I know your said you tried "everything" but if someone else has this issue, thats what worked for me.

It wasn't completely off topic. However, I am/was trying to help you become a better forum member. I happen to love this forum. Yes, you have to wade through crap sometimes, but the people here, if treated with respect, will more often help you. All that was asked was have you tried "x", and you blew up on him. To me it sounds like you were being what you "hate" about this forum. There's also tons of guides, and it seems you were one of the very few people who couldn't get them to work. Next time you have a problem with an "off topic" post, you shouldn't respond with an off topic post. Maybe a pm would suffice.
Also, as stated before in many threads, just Odin back to mb1, or flash the mb1 aio.zip if anyone is still have issues with camper, etc...

haha, what are you butt hurt that no one wants to do the search that you should? The 2.3 is the initial GB release I believe and as far as I know the the hack kit is the way to go to root GB phones, or at least so I'm told. Said information that you claim is not on the forum is found in the first post in the dev section? I'll keep trolling though. Pisses me off when people say they search, when they really didn't. This is to root stock 2.3. It's called the ace hack kit. What are you getting all worked up about. The link I showed takes you right to the thread in xda.

The whole point is you could have found the ace hack kit thread in 2 seconds by typing "inspire 4g rooting" into Google and clicking on the ace hack kit. The thread itself explains that it can be used for either froyo or gingerbread and does the gold card all in a one click root. The people that run this forum do not want people starting threads for information that can so easily be found. Did you watch the forum rules when you signed up for your account because you really should know this.

Dude, don't bother Gizmoe. I did the work for him. I even asked in the IRC chat in the thread and from the developer himself, he says this will work on 2.3 initial GB release. Ameedi, chief I don't know how much easier any of us can make it for you. We showed you the door, walked you to it and yet you gave an attitude and throw a fit? Good, go to the SG2 forum, the devs and community here have been nothing but helpful and it's hard to help someone when they won't help themselves. I apologize I guess, if the search "2.3 root" didn't yield the exact information you were looking for, but one glance at the dev section you would notice the 2nd thread which gives all the information you would ever need to start. Didn't you state it pisses you off when people tell you that something is on the forums when YOU know it isn't? Pisses me off when a person calls me a troll, I give them the help they're looking for and they expect more..what? you want me to root your phone too?

That Awesome Force Close Is Back!

Well, I finally did it - back to stock. Just had too many issues with the roms, although they were super fun.
I thought, "Well the stock Froyo didn't have any issues from what I remember..."
Except all the force closes. It's amazing. I remember now how bad it was.
And yes, I'm rooted.
What can I do to fix these? These random force closes are brutal. Other people must be dealing with this.
Thanks!
Unroot, and just run. It sucks, im forced on it until i trade mine in. Trust me, it gets soo laggy makes the phone look like its a piece of junk. Im trying to get out of this brutal life to go to some *ahem* delicious snack builds.

First of all, THANKS for the reply.
I'm wondering if this is a Titanium Backup issue. I get a TON of single vibrate than three-vibrate signals followed by a mobile manager close (or other force close). I always use TB to reinstall my apps after a rom flash. I only do app reinstall (not app + data)
But the one-vibrate followed by three-vibrate, that happens all the time.
Just like the first responder said, the lag is INSANE even on stock froyo and the force closes are frustrating.
Should I re-go back to stock and just never use TB and install all apps manually? Or is there a way to figure this out? Because if so, I can shoot back up to a nice ICS build.
THANK you!!!
I use TB regularly... best $$ for an app I spent...if your just gonna settle for stock why not go with qkster one clicker... to stock ?
I backup and restore regularly no prob...

Please don't assume anything. As someone who had a computer repair business, I can attest to the fact that sometimes hardware just doesn't play nice no matter what you do. Or are you one of those people that think hardware can never be at fault?
My phone had the same issues with any rom I tried. And no, I wasn't doing anything wrong. I tried installing from rooted stock, did all the wipes and formatting, but every time it eventually became glitchy. So far, stock works fine for me, so I'm sticking with it. There's obviously something about my hardware that doesn't agree with the updated kernel/software.
Samsung made millions of these phones. Do really believe that every single one will work perfectly with software that wasn't intended for it in the first place?
Short answer, no. Everyone was just trying to help. We see a ton of these threads saying there is a problem only to find out someone made a mistake or skipped a step.

I forgot that you know everything. You obviously know nothing about hardware and the possibility that something could be wrong with his phone. Quit trying to be stupid? Wow. I had a computer repair business, can fix any computer, compile kernels and pretty much do anything in linux and windows, and was made an ubuntu member. It's people like you with no real tech abilities that resort to calling someone stupid, and you think you know it all. I never said it was definitely a hardware problem, merely that it could be. Grow up and get a clue.

When someone goes around saying it's definitely this or definitely that, yeah, I have a problem with it. You're implying that there's no chance of it being hardware related. That right there shows how much you really know.
Btw genius, my phone never ran 100% perfect from the start. I suppose that was my fault because I took it out of the box wrong?

Hi guys - no, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be running GB or ICS without the force close issues.
Maybe my second post got lost among the, ahem, spirited debate but I would love some assistance.
I'm 99.9% sure I reflashed back to stock correctly. Then all I did was a recovery with TB (app only, no data). I've read elsewhere this could be the culprit.
Any ideas? This force close and lag thing is driving me nuts. Plus it hinders any roms I flash for GB or ICS.
Thank you in advance!

Communication failed

I went back to stock on build UCKJ2 2.3.5 However trying to upgrade I get the message communication failed. The baseband is UCLA3. However wifi and the radio work great. I wanted to clean up everything. Any idea why the servers say communication failed?

Uncheck your clock from automatic to manual and advance the date by a day. Now try to update again.
Try it a couple of times. If that doesn't work then the servers are off or down I guess. I am on 2.3.6 and I get the same notification when I try to update.
Yea I tried pushing the date a day for 3-4 times. I assume the servers are down because they are getting ready to push the next build. I really can pick a day for this. At least everything works great from what I can tell.

That's depends on situation. Also it depends on "Which Authority"?
No one are suppose to play God, no one are suppose to be God.
So sometime things just get out of the hands, even for "Authority".

How do you under volt skyrocket?

I'm trying to under volt to save battery life, can anyone tell me the best app and how to do so correctly?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Dude, you really need to read. Stop asking people to spoon-feed information to you. Read the stickies and use the "search" button before you hard-brick yourself.
I have looked around there is NO undervolting guide.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
There isn't a guide to everything. Sometimes you have to look within threads (ROM threads, kernel threads), maybe even leave the Skyrocket section for an overall idea of what undervolting is. Maybe even Google it--I just Googled "undervolting android" and got at least ten comprehensive guides on the first page.
Point being, the information is out there, and you need to understand what you're doing before you do it. I can tell you exactly which app to use and how to undervolt. You might do just fine. You might also have a kernel that doesn't support UV'ing, in which case you'll be right back here again asking the same question because you didn't read. You might also screw something up completely and do permanent damage to your phone, in which case you'll be back here begging for help again.
Or, alternatively, you can take a few hours to read and learn what you're doing and why you're doing it. See why I'm unwilling to spoon-feed you? You've asked very simple questions in multiple threads that you would have already known the answer to had you done your homework before flashing. If you take the time to learn and understand, you probably won't have any problems, and you'll be able to tweak the living spit out of your phone. If you continue to decide that something looks cool and you want to try it without understanding what it is or how it works, you'll be back here crying about your $500 paperweight. READ.
Thanks for the useless reply, ive looked around and can't find ONE guide explaining undervolting or anything for the skyrocket. I've Ironed out all the other problems on my own. Of course I asked around but didn't receive and real help besides people trying to be tough and say READ AROUND. Yeah, I do need to read around but isn't that what this community is supposed to be for? How about actually helping someone out instead of antagonizing every "noob" that enters your forums. There are a few people I can thank for actually taking their time to reply with a useful response and help, and there are others that spit up useless replies such as yours. If I didn't Google this already do you think I would be asking this question? So next time I wouldn't bother replying. Your post is dully noted. Thank you.

1. Go to Development Section and look for Stock based rom or AOSP (AOKP, CM etc..) that supports underclocking. (Find one that is for your ROM or you will get instabilities/bootloops)
2. Get an app such as System Tuner that can control/set voltage settings.
3. Set desire voltage, usually increments of 12.5mV
4. Use benchmarking program such as Antutu, StabilityTest or a game. To increase more stress turn on WiFi, Data, GPS, Increase brightness etc.. to see if the phone can take the power draw without reboot.
5. If it reboots higher it, if it doesnt lower it.. stresstest should be like 30-1hr long but the longer it doesnt boot the better (to simulate regular use).
6. If it doesnt reboot for a few hours/overnight and you want to save the settings you can set save on boot.
There usually isnt much guides for these as the results are different for everyone as every CPU/phone have different thresholds. On my sig I have an example of a stress test I did a few months ago but may or may not work for most people. :good:

These are stock InstigatorX settings so there is no undervolt but just an example on how to change it.

To be far to TJ, your user account is older than his, which probably doesn't mean much, but COULD mean you've been around longer.
All the points he makes however are valid. Any veteran user in here will tell u I am on of the MOST helpful users in the skyrocket sub section, just check my thanks meter. With that said, everything I know I learned through reading and research. We all have to start somewhere, but he's just frustrated bbecause I've seen a few of your other questions and it seems u don't do much research on ur own

That was a really nice detailed reply. I know people need to do more research but still... why do people post rages against the OP? Really, ignore it or answer it.
.
If we ignore it they post 20 threads same question thinking we didn't see.
If we spoon feed them they never search the just flood with more dumb questions.
If we tell them to research we are told we are mean and that we shouldn't post.

What do you mean you get no help? This isn't your first time posting to the wrong forum and you've gotten answers every time. Don't lie and say you've tried Q&A and gotten no help.
Post under where you got your download, you can't just say sorry and just clog up our threads with your issues, you don't own it you know. We all have had or have issues at times. Doesn't give you the right to just post what you want and where you want. You need to be flagged and banned!
You are a butt hole, a sweaty salty nutty butt hole.
Please read forum rule 15 if you are not sure where to post

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

It seems like those of us who actually do their homework before rooting their devices are decreasing.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.

Haha don't take it the wrong way I don't mind helping but when people post a question answered two posts above them or create a thread for a question when one exists and is still on the front page, those are where I get annoyed. Also when people don't at least try and search first. You can always tell if they have searched or not.
I try to be helpful though long as you tried first
