[Q] Repair/Repurpose HOX - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I recently purchased a broken HTC One X off craigslist for like $150. It came with a cracked screen and I did a bit of research to find the screen replacements were less than $100 shipping incl. Long story short, the screen replacement thing isn't working out. I can't get the new screen to turn on and I keep getting a red LED light when the "phone" gets turned on. I contacted the seller about it possibly being a bad LCD but he claims that I needed to sync the old LCD, but I no longer have that LCD. So, I was wondering if anyone had any help on how to get the screen working.
Second part, the motherboard is fully functional and everything works when its connected to the PC. Just the screen is bad. I was wondering if anyone knew an app to "screen share" between two phones that might work in this situation so I could maybe ghetto rig a webcam or dashcam. Any and all help is appreciated.
Pics attached are the phone in current state.

Requested moving to Evita forums.

[Q] Stuck/dead pixels - common Sensation issue?

Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. A quick "thanks" to everyone who has posted in the sensation forum til now - there's a huge amount of helpful stuff in here, especially for an android noob such as myself.
In short, made the switch from Blackberry to Android a month ago, going for the Sensation. The first Sensation I ordered from Amazon had a "stuck" pixel (white) straight out the box. Returned it for a new one, which has been great until this weekend when I discovered another stuck pixel (red this time). As someone who tends to have quite dark homescreen/backgrounds, this isn't really something I can live with.
So I'm about to return it to Amazon once again, but this time I'm wavering as to whether to simply request a replacement rather than a refund, simply because 2 stuck pixels on separate brand new phones in less than a month is pretty catastrophic. Is anyone aware of this being a common issue on the Sensation? If so, I may have to look elsewhere - I'd budgeted for my new phone to last me a good 18 months or so, and at the moment they can't last more than three weeks!
Thanks in advance for all advice/help
Slightly OT but how do you find Amazon when it comes to returns, are they at all difficult to deal with? I'll probably be ordering my next phone from them.
BTW, welcome!
I got a blue stuck dead pixel on the left top part of the screen.
I'm also getting a replacement
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
u do no u can get an app on android the MAY fixstuck pixels, search dead pixel or pixel fix
mine also got a white point - don´t know if it was out of box or came just 3 days after use.
thought it was dirt, because I also could see it with screen of - but now I know it was a dead pixel.
Returned it to the shop and tomorrow I get my new one from amazon.
hopefully the new one will be allright, because the phone is great!
I have them if the phone is cold, which in this weather is often. Especially when I was in London today..
But they shortly go. It tends to be in top left corner above status bar..

gavin - yeah, I tried using Pixel Fixer. No joy unfortunately.
seagull - they're excellent to be honest, for high-value goods like phones they send a courier to pick it up(!) and the refund hits your account two days later. (Haven't ordered a replacement so far - the price of the sensation keeps dropping on Amazon UK, so I just ask for a refund, buy a new one and pocket the difference. Has dropped £35 since I bought it 3 weeks ago!)
Cheers all, sounds like a relatively common if not chronic problem. Fingers crossed it'll be third time lucky for me, I was just starting to get to grips with it. Hopefully the rest of my posts in here will be asking for help rooting etc rather than fixing hardware problems!
Definitely bring it back so

My first 2 (original, then first replacement) had this. My current unit does not. The dead pixels were one of the main reasons I was sending them in for replacements.
Both your phones had this? I've never had an issue with mine. That's damn unlucky
got today my new one: this time not only one dead pixel, they are nearly all over mixed with dust. called amazon and get it replaced again...this sucks

Threads like this are so senseless all you will achieve is to accumulate all users that have the problem. And yet the percentage of screens with dead pixels has to be really low. As with all LCD screens there will be ones with dead pixels. There its no reason for the sensation's LCD screen to have more dead pixels than others.

[Q] Broke the screen on HTC One X Telus > repair options ?

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately I broke the Gorilla glass screen digitizer on my One X. I had it my back pocket and I sat on chair and I heard a cracking noise. It is a thin hairline crack, but it goes from one side to the other; the LCD is fine though. I am fairly good with fixing things and with a good guide I'll attempt to fix it myself.
The question I have is: should I change just the glass digitizer or should I change the screen too? From what I've seen on Youtube the digitizer is glued pretty good to the LCD and it is difficult to remove. I would attempt to remove just the digitizer but I am afraid not to scratch or damage the LCD in the process. Some people were recommending changing the digitizer and display in one piece. Price wise I am looking at around $20 for the digitizer alone or $80 for digitizer + LCD so I could definitely save on changing just the digitizer.
Has anyone tried change to change any of them and could you please share any feedback I could use ?
Thanks.

There have been a few threads about this. The consensus has been that only HTC can ever get the phone back to a presentable condition after trying to reinstall the glass. And I believe their cost is in the $200-$300 range. I don't think I have seen a single report of a DIY replacement that worked out well. And several "professional" fixes that looked terrible. If you want the glass seated back flush with the phone and the capacitive buttons lined up right I think your only option is HTC, and its not cheap.

OK, so installing just the glass is difficult and might not look or work as good. But what if I change buy the glass and LCD in one piece and install it in one block (costs around $90 for the part)? Any bad reports for this one? Sending to HTC is out of the question, for $300 I might as well get another phone.
Also is there any difference between the international EndeavorU Tegra 3 and Evita S4 variants when it comes to LCD size compatibility? Most of the vendors on eBay don't specify if it is for the international version or Evita so I am assuming it should be the same thing. But, the Evita is 0.5 mm longer than the International version so there is a possibility the displays are different.
There is a difference in sizes among the various One X models. They are not interchangeable. The AT&T version costs the most, naturally (I want to say $150+). If you have an AT&T version, the international One XL (must be LTE version) screen will fit almost perfect, but the capacitive keys don't line up right. Plus with the exception of the AT&T logo its really hard to tell them all apart.
Basically, if the still screen works, keep using it as is. Otherwise getting a new phone is recommended.

I have the version sold in Canada by Telus and Rogers (LTE). Basically it is the AT&T version but with a HTC logo instead of AT&T (and with an unlockable bootloader). I would prefer to get a 100% working screen with a HTC logo, not AT&T. But from you mentioned, my only option would be the LTE International One XL.
What do you mean the capacitive keys don't line up right? Aren't they built inside the whole glass-LCD assembly? If I change the whole thing, do I still need to mess with the capacitive keys ?
Thank you.
I've only seen people replace the whole front glass assembly, which includes the buttons. The lights are in a different place, so the buttons work, but only halfway light up. I'm not sure on the Canadian version, I have the AT&T version, so that's the one I have watched for. Everything I read about this is on xda somewhere. I just don't know exactly where the threads were. Possibly in the accessories forum too.

I think it is safer to avoid replacing just the glass, I want to go with glass and LCD one piece swap. If I replace it with this eBay item for example, I should have everything work back to original state including the capacitive buttons assuming that the display is compatible with my HTC ?
At this point you have nothing to lose except 90 bucks... Buy the glass, and replace it. Take your time, and you will also learn something. Whenever people say something is hard, I use it as my drive to prove them wrong. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Tip: reassemble it, then if t dont look right, take it apart again, then reassemble it again, this kind of softens the plastic gasket that holds the screen in place, after a couple attempts it should sit in just like new.

That's what I meant: glass, digitizer, and LCD in one unit. Its hard to tell if that came out of a LTE version. There are no many One X variants that use the same name. You can try to ask the seller. The only guarantee to get the right part and get them installed correctly is to deal with HTC. Having a screen not seated right, or the buttons not lighting up right would drive me crazy.
Personally, I would just get a new phone, depending on the crack.

Oh I got it. So the capacitive buttons lights are NOT inside the digitizer-LCD unit, that's why the misalignment issues. So basically my best bet would be with an AT&T branded screen. I guess I'll take an AT&T logo instead of a bad capacitive buttons.

I will try to do it, I fixed my galaxy S2 before with guides from the internet, I'll try with the One X. I am just waiting for the seller to confirm if his part is compatible with the HTC One X Evita.
But the bottom line is > phones have grown to big for their own good. The bigger the screen size, the higher the flex. The result is easy to see.
I didn't want a 4.7" but really wanted an HD screen. I guess from now on I'll stick with a 4.3 screen, it is easier to operate with one hand and probably more flex resistant.
Everyone wants thinner, bigger, lighter phones. At some point people need to stop and look at longevity of the device.

I have emailed 4 eBay sellers and none of them know if their LCD-display assembly is 100% compatible with the North American HTC One X ( AT&T, Telus, Rogers ).
Has anyone bought a display lately and can recommend a seller ?

I broke my screen a couple months ago on my att HOX. I ordered a new screen to attempt a repair because the lcd was not damaged. I trolled the inet researching before and after I received my screen. short of the long is replacing the screen only? IMPOSSIBLE! way too much adhesive heating slightly only ended up damaging the lcd. I ended up ordering my screen/lcd from repair universe. Meanwhile phone was out of order Once the later than promised repair item arrived from them. It had the HTC logo instead of the ATT one at the top. (little scared at that point to continue, but what the hell) everything fit well. my only complaint is the captivate buttons on the bottom. I was able to transfer the plastic light things for the captivate buttons, just not as perfect as I would like. However works well.
(edit) I still have the screen digitizer. Free to anyone willing to pay for the shipping from Utah, or talented enough to get the screen away from the lcd. LOL
At&t one x and international one xl are identical except for software and the logo. You can get either of these screens with no misalignment.

Thanks. One question regarding these screens from eBay: Is the LCD the same quality as the original one (same colors, contrast, brightness) and is the glass Corning Gorilla Glass or ordinary non scratch resistant glass ?

Do you have a link with a XL screen (HTC logo) that works just like the original one?
Some people are reporting that the capacitive buttons light are not properly aligned with the One XL, only half of the buttons light up. I would get a XL screen with an HTC logo, but I think I would tolerate an AT&T logo instead of half lit capacitive buttons.
No clue on the quality or type of glass. The day after my repair, I had invisasheild installed. I like The feel of glass vs plastic but I don't really want to go though that again. The display on 1080 looks great for my movies.

[Q] Digitizer/Sensor or Flex Cable Problem?

It started out simple. At first, the screen would cut off when I closed the keyboard sometimes...and then all the time. Next, the touch screen stopped working. Afterwards, the screen would freeze occasionally. Now, I can't see the screen at all.
I'm not ready to give up on this phone yet. I'm just not sure if it's a digitizer and sensor, or the flex cable issue. Does anybody have a clue?
90% need a new flex, be sure to get one with the speaker soldered on to make life easier and take your time reading before disassembly, lots o sticky stuff there
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If both the LCD and digitizer are having problems (with no signs of external or water damage), I'd suspect the flex cable as well.
Thanks!
I thought so, but I was in denial. I've only ever replaced digitizers, so I was hoping I just had to do something like that again.
By the way demkantor, what's the other 10%?
9% digitizer going bad and then soon after LCD, 1% software/firmware issue 90% get a new flex. So if it were me id buy the flex, or at least open it up and have a peek around

Changed my flex two times by now, first time lcd showed color noise, second time touch died.
First time there were rips on the flex, second time - nothing particular.

My MT4GS has just gone blank after 3 years of continuous use. Screen went random colour pattern, then totally black, though phone is still working fine behind it.
I've done a search, but places like http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-mytouch-4g-slide.html suggest there are two - a motherboard flex and a slide rail flex that look very similar but are two different prices. I'm a long way from USA, so spares take a long time to ship and are expensive. Can anyone recommend a supplier/specification so I get the right one? Help much appreciated. Thanks.
In the link you sent those are one in the same, can't say why the prices differ but one may have speaker and one not, I'm on mobile so its hard to zoom in and tell.
As for supplier I'm in the us and have just purchased from random eBay people before so I can't say what's best for you
Also note it is possible you're LCD is bad (but bless likely the cause) if you are to get one of these know which one you have first (there are a couple out there and aren't interchangeable)

Thanks - reading other posts on other threads (inlcuding one guy who posted a picture of exactly the last thing I saw on my screen before it went black (-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092608)) seems to point to the flex. That post also has a link to an ebay sale, but the picture has been taken down so I've only got the name to go on. And of course that doesn't match what I can but other places so I'm just guessing at the moment..
Is it the main motherboard flex? Perhaps I'll have to strip the phone at the weekend and see if I can work it out... Oh well, another thing to add to the To-Do list. No wait, that's on my phone and I can't get at it!

Desire HD faulty could I sell

Hey Guys,
Have a htc desire HD had it for the last years and I cracked the screen on it 2 weeks ago I got a replacement. Screen installed it also got the new high charge battery which I havint opened and new battery door,

LG G2 questions

I picked up a used LG G2 from Ebay. The phone is in somewhat great shape and is functional except for the top portion of the digitizer. About an inch, give or take, at the top is unresponsive to touch. I just wanted some input on how common digitizer damage is on this phone. I know most phones these days are very delicate and the digitizers and LCD's can be damaged quite easily. There is a good knick at the top of the phone so I am guessing it had been dropped at one point.
I paid $150 for the phone and I can pick up the LCD, digitizer, and mid body assembly for $65 on Ebay. Just have to slap the internals in the new mid body, throw the back cover on, and done. Phone is good as new. But I don't want to make that investment IF by some chance the problem isn't the digitizer but rather something wonky with the main board. The more input the better. Thanks guys.
It's the digitizer, I sent mine in for the same thing.. Dunno how much it cost tho cause I had warranty. Hope it goes well replacing it
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks MaestriFC. While I was waiting on a response for this, I noticed the phone decide to go quirky on me. I looked it up and found on XDA this is a common problem? Phantom touches, etc.? I seen a couple people say it is still the LCD and digitizer causing these issues and replacing them fixed it.
Well I dropped my phone on tile with no case so I don't think it's a common issue (unless everyone is dropping them) but from what I read the digitizer was loose so you would have to open the phone and connect it, or get it serviced, I don't remember getting Phantom touches though..
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah. I read on another forum about it and found links to these problems here on XDA. Apparently, this phone going spaztic is a very common thing. Which still hasn't been traced down to any one specific thing. Most are having LG replace their phones just to get another one doing the very same things. I am going to order the new LCD and digitizer though. Hopefully it fixes the issues. Maybe LG got a batch of faulty digitizers or something....lol...here's to hoping.
Make sure you do your research on replacing haha wouldn't want anything else messed up... In my opinion you should just try to connect it properly and see if that works, that's if you're going to open it anyways of course, could save some money.. Good luck
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
I tried that. I opened it up, and from what I could tell the phone has never been opened. The screws were tight and came out with some black stuff on the threads. That's USUALLY a sign the phone has never been opened. I reseated the top and bottom connectors for the digitizer. The one on top and the one on bottom, I didn't reseat the other one at the bottom though. But I figured that one was for the bottom portion of the digitizer anyway. Which is working. When the phone starts up, every now and again, the "LG" screen will just flicker then boot up. But most times the "LG" screen shows as normal when booting up.
I did also find out from normal calling that the microphone for speaker phone isn't working properly. Normal headset works just fine. But when I switch it to speaker phone people can barely hear me. But that microphone costs like 8 bucks to change so no big deal. I have checked out many youtube vids on fixing this phone. It can be challenging to have to remove everything but I have found just buying the LCD and digitizer already mounted to a new mid body is the easiest way to go.
So the repeating the digitizer didn't work? I would buy the two together as it would be a lot easier than separating the two.. Might just be you had a faulty one after all
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
I haven't replaced it yet MaestriFC. I will report back in a couple weeks though when I do get the new screen in and get it all replaced. What didn't work was opening her up and re seating the cables. I thought maybe something could have been or come loose but that wasn't the case.
Just an update guys. I got the whole LCD and Digitizer replaced last night. It's only been a few hours but so far everything is great. No more glitching out. As a matter of fact, I had no choice but power the phone down last week. That's how bad the glitching out got. My phone was totally unusable. But now with the new screen, it's working great. If it stays working great then we can assume the problems with this phone are the cause of bad digitizers.
