Dear fellow XDA'ers,
I know you (just like myself) have been really annoyed by the (lack of) support by Asus.
But have you ever heard this;
first of all, I must have sent in my tf700 more than 5 times because of the lifting screen/clicking border issue.
The last time I sent it in for that issue, they also (for no apparent reason) changed my motherboard!
Therefore, I couldn't unlock my device when I got it back in, since this is a known issue. (You'd expect Asus to have solved this automatically, but they haven't)
So I contacted their services; they simply said to send it back in and they'd fix it.
So I did, it took me 2 weeks to get it back.
Once unpacked and charged, I tried to unlock and... I couldn't unlock!
What the hell have they been doing these two weeks?!
Anyway, does anyone know someone who can pull some strings, because I am sure this is something they could very well solve from a distance as long as I am willing to give them my mac address etc.
Thanks!
(PS: Maybe we should start a petition for Asus, so they'd be aware of their horrible services)
There is a thread where people have contacted ASUS Taiwan and after 3 or 4 calls they finally corrected the errors. Sending it in they do nothing, you have to call them repeatedly it seems.

I wonder why they told me to send it in then. I was quite clear in my mail and it seemed like they understood very well what I was talking about.
Why would they want me to send in?
Asus logic doesn't always make sense, so it seems

Who knows, it is a server error that is doing it because the SN and motherboard code do not match in their servers. Here is the thread. They have had others send it in also but it gets you no where.

They are telling you to send it because the normal support techs can't fix it over the phone or in emails. They are probably leaving to the service center to figure out but even they can't change what information the servers have in Taiwan. Hence you get it mailed back to you with just a reinstall of the software but the issue still present. I've been trying to get someone in support to have someone in Taiwan fix the MAC address that is on the server but I keep ending up with they can only RMA it. Asus knows what the problem is but the issue is not of importance. Their engineers and developers are busy working on new products and preparing Android updates for their current devices. More importantly, they don't really want you unlocking the device and installing modified system software to it. You are lucky they even serviced your device for the screen popping out if you had it unlocked.

Ok, so I'm always torn when it comes to loading custom ROMS because I uses my devices heavily for work. That being said, I have a solid history of Android devices, some of which I have flashed and some that I have left stock.
HTC G1 (T-Mo) - CM4/5/6 (Deactivated)
HTC EVO (Sprint) - Stock 2.3.5 (GB - Deactivated)
Samsung Galaxy S (T-Mo) - Stock 4.1.1 (JB - Active)
Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE (Verizon) - AOKP Milestone 6 (ICS - Active)
ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T (WiFi) - Stock 4.0.3 (ICS)
Here's the deal, I love my tablet and use it heavily for work, but the stock ROM from ASUS just sucks. This hardware should chew crap up and spit it out, not studder and shutter every time I ask it to do something more than edit a text doc! I haven't used CMx in quite some time, but I know it is a very finished product which is important since I use the TF300T + Keyboard Dock for work. That being said, I am intrigued by all of the postive reviews and sentiments regarding the Hydro-Ponics 4.0 ROM. It sounds very stable and fast since it is ultimately just a tweaked version of stock. Can anyone give me a little Pros/Cons list while comparing and contrasting their experience with each ROM?
Thanks!
Personally I never used cm9, but I use hydro
Pros:
Super fast
Beats audio
Great battery life
Super smooth
Cons:
None

id say wait a lil bit, and jump on the cm10 train, tonight they are apparently adding HW video decoding, and so far, its the smoothest thing ive used on any android device to date
and after using both, i do preffer the cm feel, complete stock interface, nd everything is just super smooth
Thanks!
Thanks for the input guys. Thinking I'll go Hydro since I already know what to expect with CM. I'll let you know what I think

Try the new JB from term. Runs very good, too.
Done Deal
I flashed HYDRO 4.0 Base and then flashed the 4.0A update. Running great so far. I haven't had time to do a full check, but I will update tomorrow afternoon and let you know how it goes. So far I am quite impressed. The only little issue I am having is Titanium is telling me that I do not have root, but I obviously have root...not sure what that is about yet, but I'll figure it out. Other than that, the missing ASUS apps leave a tiny void, but I have better apps to do everything they do, so I'm happy.
It has been a little while since I flashed a ROM, but I was pleasantly surprised that almost all of my apps are still installed even after I wiped the system. I haven't tested all yet, but the ones I have appear to be working.
Re-rooted
I re-rooted using DebugfsRoot_v1.9 and everything is all good.
You won't be disappointed with HYDRO. Its fast and everything works. Plus the added JB ish animations is a nice plus. And the battery life is crazy good.

I have a problem with HYDRO 4.0. I have a three routers in home, one on each floor (two of them are the same, first and second floor). My tf300 with hydro don't see one of them (from first floor). My Motorola Defy see all three my laptop see all three, but Asus have a problem.
I downgradge to .30 and now tf300 see all three.

I used Hydro and it was great but I jumped on the Jellybean train and am now using CM10 found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776260, haven't had a problem, and it seems as fast/stable as Hydro was.
OP, does Hydro fully support all the dock functionalities? Having full use of the Dock is one of the few things I'm missing now with my tablet, since I've used CM9 and figured out how to get Supernote (Still working on getting the asus weather widgets and polaris office working). I would absolutely love to have my cake and eat it too, in the sense that I want a rooted/flashed tablet that still allows me all the basic stock functionalities, and more.

Absolutely full use of the dock. That is my favorite part. I have experienced one WiFi issue at one of my client's networks where the device just wouldn't play nicely with an AP, but other than that everything has been solid. I also noticed that my screen brightness and/or gamma correction seems to have increased, but I have mitigated that using a free market app.
The dock integration is wonderful and the OS is very very fast.

Thanks for the prompt response. Knowing that the dock is fully functional helps alot, and will allow me to switch without regrets. In fact, I'm going to backup right now and flash the Hydro ROM to see if I like it better than CM9. But I might have to switch back to CM10 once Jelly Bean is released to the tablet, because I'm assuming Hydro won't work with JB just yet.

Consider this - JB on the TF700 will not be bug free. While we wait, we'll likely see the rest of the internet freaking out about various apps not working optimally. Then we can judge whether we should update, or wait for the subsequent JB patch.

Heh - I also own a Motorola Droid BIONIC, and the Motorola Droid RAZR owners were our beta testers - which is (one of) the primary reason(s) we still don't have ICS on our phones over 1 year after release date.
I'll just sit back and wait and see. Though, I'm such a chronic beta tester as soon as I see it on my Infinity I'm probably gonna pull the trigger lol

Many of those issues stem from rooted and unlocked bootloaders with modified build.props and deleted bloatware. Also from members that carelessly and frantically try to restore their tablets to stock and end up soft brick/brick their devices. A small report of updates, bricking their Primes. For the most part JB was a success, that includes my tf201. Its not without its bugs but overall much improved from ICS. I am excited for when JB hits our tf700!
Edit:I won't be surprised to see similar issues popping up for when Jelly Bean lands at our tf700 shores.

Yeah I only got my Infinity a couple of weeks ago and since I figured JB was due to arrive soon, I would wait to for the JB roms to get stable before messing with the tablet (also need to make sure my Infinity is a good one).
If JB shows up as promised next week then it will probably be a month or two and I'll see what roms are there that are best for me and I'll root and flash then. A stable experience is more important to me than being first on a rom.
So I just bought my Infinity (and dock), and I didn't do enough research before I purchased it.. I bought the 2-year protection plan (With accidental coverage) and I'm realizing just how slow the stock system is. I'm already rooted and have several stock apps frozen; that helped a little.
I'm considering unlocking and using CROMI. I know this voids warranties, but does it just void the 'software' warranty (because someone may brick their device and ask for a new one), or will it also void my accidental coverage (if I drop it and, say, crack the screen)? And does it void ALL warranties? I.E. If my dock is under warranty through Best Buy, but the tablet itself is covered by Square Trade? I'll be doing more reseach into this but since I'm posting the question, I figure I'll include a small question about that :]
So all in all, is it ~really~ worth (possibly) voiding my entire warranty by installing CROMI? So far, after having the tablet for two weeks, I've been just slightly frustated with hanging apps and other such things; but it hasn't been unbearable. I don't play games on my tablet and I use it as an intermediate computer. My gaming laptop stays at home for the heavy work, my phone is for light work such as googling something, and the tablet I use for taking notes and doing research in college.

For now I would wait before doing anything. ATM 4.2.1 just came out on stock and everything is new and not everything is known to be compatible with eachother. If you havent got 4.2.1 try running an update and if it dont help, give it about 2 weeks and Cromi should be up and running correctly using the 4.2.1 boot loader. Now ATM with the new ASUS release is the time to hold off on flashing anything custom because chance of bricking, with the new boot loader and recovery, is much much higher. ATM We got TWRP 2.4.4 patched that should work with the new boot loader but no custom rom is built ATM to use the new boot loader. So, like I said, would wait a week or two before deciding.

Thanks! I actually ~JUST~ saw the post for the new update after I posted this.
The most annoying thing about the I/O bottleneck is that, occasionally, I'll see a thin black line flash horizontally across my screen, and it's like the app reloaded. In the case of Skype, normal use allows me to click a chat and have it come up right away. If the black line has flashed across the screen, when I switch chats, it's like the entire app has reloaded. I.E. the window flashes and the chat has to reload and any new messages will re-appear in the notifications bar as if I switched out of Skype. It's really odd.
Either way, thank you for the information. Any and all info is still welcomed, I'd love to hear more people's opinions!

If you havent done the update, try a cold boot, even if you have updated try cold booting. I know for a fact, since I mess around with roms, that a cold boot can fix many things, especially with a dirty flash, meaning keeping all the same data without a clean install. I get the screen tears as well but it does not reset the app, just flashes on the screen and disappears. I am used to it, it is a very minor issue and has to do with apps not being built for our tf700s resolution.

I'll try a cold boot, thanks again! And it's not so much as reset the app, as it is as if the app is (at least what I imagine is happening) the app is being dumped from memory while it's still open and then it's brought back into memory immediately, which causes problems. I don't think it's just an issue with the resolution because, about an hour ago, I hit the home button while in firefox, effectively putting it in the background for a while. I came back into firefox 20 minutes ago and all my tabs were gone except the first one, then that little black line flashed and the first tab was gone and I was at the about:home screen as if I just opened after a reboot.
Personally, i never buy the insurance on my electronics. I may have just been lucky so far, but i have never needed it. Seems like a waste of money to me, but to each his own. If you want to get the most out of your tablet you have to unlock it, custom rom, etc., so you can either keep fighting it or just give it up and enjoy the thing you payed so much money for. Your call.

Unfortunately that lag is quite normal for the stock TF700. A 'must have' imo on this tablet is to unlock and install CROMi-X. Difference of night and day......

+1 on tf700 noobness - I've been reading up on everything about unlocking, custom roms, kernels, tweaks, etc. My biggest question thus far is with regard to CROMI-X (mind you I've never used any variant of clean rom), should I install the odex or the deodex versions? There is a minimal likelyhood I will do any of my own theming because I just don't have the time. Thanks.
EDIT: my assumption is the odex version.

I can't speak for CROMi-X since I never unlocked (if you do, note that you lose any manufacturer warranty apart from those the law gives you, e.g. in the EU). But I'm on 4.2.2, rooted, locked, and the only app that gives me considerable lag is Chrome. Some office apps were unusable due to lag, but I moved to a new one and that problem's gone. So I'd say it's a mix of stock OS shortcomings and low-quality apps.
Enjoy your new toy!

Ok 2 bad i like it so much, if i had read this 2 weaks ago. I just update to asus 4.2.1 firm
This is a hard one to describe, but haven't found any references to the same problem elsewhere.
Certain app (many) show certain number fields as many orders of magnitude larger than they should be, except eBay app, which shows 0 cost for everything - which would be nice if it were true. See screenshots.
Any ideas?
It's unlocked and rooted, with an early 'stock' JB ROM
I have no idea what is causing this, but I would just flash the latest 4.2.1 firmware and root it with Motochopper if you want to stay on stock.
But since you are unlocked already - why don't you try a custom rom like CROMi-X 4.7? SO much better than stock.....
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 4
Yeah, I thought I might just try flashing 4.2.1 and see if that helped with this, and more generally.
I've got some general ingrained aversion to going off-stock, dunno why really. I subject my wife to custom ROMs with no concern
Well, if i'm flashing anyway, I might as well check out your CROMi-X suggestion. The main benefit I would be looking for would be speed, I find the Infinity slower than i'd like...
Cheers
