Japan Galaxy S4 thread! - Galaxy S 4 General

For all the japanese Galaxy s4 owners and enthusiasts. Share problems, links, tips, you name it.
But be sure to still follow XDA Rules. =)

Curious about the 1970 Tapatalk bug? Read here.

Based on past experience with Galaxy S series in Japan:
Docomo only at launch 99% likely, maybe some bizarre au variant later.
Model name likely SC-07E/F if those models not already used.
Exynos variant, all FOMA/FOMA Plus/Xi bands. Maybe a few more for roaming
Dual-mode NFC-A/Felica (Felica SE on-board, NFC-A SE on the SIM card)
ISDB-T One-Seg, maybe Nottv.

which US model will work in Japan? or 9505?
Anyone out there using an S4 on Softbank? Will a US GSM model work on Softbank or Docomo or do we need to bring an 9505 model to Japan for use while visiting?

Will my Verizon SCH-I535 SIII work in Taiwan?
I looked at the Wikipedia page about the model variants and noticed 3G CDMA2000 radio may work in Taiwan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III#Model_variants
I have read this thread, but there was no mention specifically about Taiwan.

I would like to use my SIII to it's fullest capabilities (talk/data/text etc).
Can anyone provide any insight?
If it will work in Taiwan, what Taiwan provider do you recommend?

Note Edge N915L

does Galaxy Note Edge N915L (Korea LTE-A) works with Malaysian LTE network?
if anyone got it pls screenshot "network mode" setting.
thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire 816 using XDA Free mobile app
how many Korean variants are out there
S - SK Telecom
K - KT Telekom
and now another
L - ???
amazing
ya, which carrier carries the L? Is it LG U+? If it is from what I know the U+ variant was the only one that wouldn't work in NA
Not sure about where you are though. I would do extensive research to see if you have the compatible bands where you live

Galaxy S6 Variants list?

LOL I agree with you there... They should change their model naming convention too as with the Note 4 you need to know the CPU from the variant list its not in the model name/number.
Also same about the iPhone 6 ... look at all the LTE bands it supports! Most Samsung phones only include the bands for the region in which the variant is destined.
Ditto on the multiple variants fiasco. I believe the Iphone 6 has only a handfull of models those with CDMA and FD/TD LTE.
my 2 cents
@$%! Since I could not discern via either GSMArena or Phonescoop, I was hoping I'd find out here whether the AT&T phones would be drastically different from the T-Mo ones. I dream of the day when phones are 100% portable from one GSM carrier to the next.

When i get a chance I will look at the f_c_c documents and it tells you which bands are tested. There is a difference, but I'll have to double check to see exactly.
I am especially curious to know more about the S6 Active as I have a mind to buy it (from AT&T, as I understand it) and then put it on my T-Mobile account. The other details I'd like to see are the 700 MHz bands; I have my fingers crossed that T-Mobile goes after populating their 700Mhz band quickly as I believe that'll rectify some coverage/saturation issues they experience.

ATT variant also supports Band 29.
NIce! Thanks for finding that!
"As reported by Fierce Wireless, until 2013, AT&T had maintained that it would not support Band 17 alongside Band 12 because it “would be too expensive and would cause interference.” But since then, the company has changed its stance.
“Specifically, the company said it will develop, implement and deploy throughout its network multi-frequency band indicator (MFBI) capabilities that will let its network operate simultaneously in both Band 12 and Band 17 and support devices in both band classes.”
What this means for T-Mobile customers is that, potentially, they can roam on AT&T’s 700MHz network in areas where the carrier doesn’t have its own LTE. And – after the move to alter terms by the FCC – AT&T won’t be able to charge whatever it likes for the privilege. It also means that a number of AT&T’s devices on sale will – if unlocked – be compatible with T-Mobile’s spectrum."

Strange, there is no mention that i can find in the FCC docs of Band 29.
I haven't confirmed cases in which the FCC doesnt list or test certain radio functionality of a device, but I suppose it is possible.
Do you have a source?

That would show that the FCC isn't testing those bands. In this case, the FCC Docs are not fully indicative of the full LTE band support of a device.
Interesting, as this is something I suspected but a bit unsure about.
Found an article on Talk Android published pre-release of the S6. Unfortunately I can't post the link as I have <10 posts on XDA.
They list the variants for the S6 as shown below:
SM-G9200 – China
SM-G9208 – China
SM-G9209 – China
SM-G920A – AT&T
SM-G920D – NTT DOCOMO

SM-G920L – LG Telecom
SM-G920M – Brazil
SM-G920P – Sprint
SM-G920R – US Cellular
SM-G920S – SK Telecom

I know it's a little old but may still be relevant.
Jock
so is it just me or is the international black version different looking than the US black version.
To me it looks like the international black version has a black metal bezel and the US is silver metal.
The SM-G9200 is also Dual-Sim. I have read that it's CAT4 LTE rather than CAT6. I would have thought all the S6 variants would be CAT6. Is it possible that it's CAT4?
now is the hardware the same for each version? I am thinking of getting a S6 but one thing I like about the HTC One is that HTC only makes 1 phone which is the same around the world. I feel this makes things easier for Devs.
Can anyone Confirm the NETWORK Frequencies on :
SM-G920W8/SM-G925W8 ? (On samsung ca web-site non info shown about it) LINK
SM-G920S
SM-G920K – KT
SM-G920L – LG Telecom
SM-G920M – Brazil
Can anyone found samsung web-site for those Models?
There is a chance that G20 and G25 from the same area Model could not supoort the same Frequencies?
I don't trsut other web-site I found there errors before.

http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G920VZDAVZW-specs
LTE Band 13/4/2 (700/1700/1900 MHz) out of box;
LTE Band 3/5/7 capable (1800/850/700 MHz); (7 are 2600 or not?)
CDMA/1xEVDO Rev. A (800/1900 MHz);

Hey there,
Not that I am 100% sure, but I've called this statement into question in another thread, I'll repost here.
In one of the threads here on XDA, another member suggested he ordered the intl. model and it didnt support the right bands for the USA. Leading me to think there were multiple models.
I'm starting to think there isn't, here is why.
1. Michael Fisher (I think he's in Canada) imported a TW market phone for his early review. It appears to have LTE in the film, and he doesnt mention anything about incompatibilities.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIWbn8ecKwA
2. Jeff Springer (I think he's in the USA) imported a HK market phone, it also appears to have LTE - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fclOYUyfxnE&t=522s
I believe the belief that the intl. model doesnt support USA bands (2/4, etc) comes from the practice (poor practice, admittedly) for HTC's Taiwanese website to only declare the bands that it perceives are relevant to Taiwanese users. The HK website suggests the same as taiwan = FDD: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 TDD: B38/B39/B40/B41
The UK / India / USA / AU sites all state - FDD: Bands B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B17/B20/B28TDD: Bands B38/B39/B40/B41
With USA & AU not stating support for dual sim, but HK, TW, India, UK do.
I believe there is only one model (with multiple software variations), and the information published being variable.
I now know there are at least 2 model numbers. U-1u (Taiwan and HK confirmed to use this model, dual sim), and U-1h (single sim, AU and UK confirmed). But given the info above (michael fisher and Jeff Springer both importing the U-1u, and seemingly can connect to north american lte, seems to suggest that the band support for U-1u is wider than the official website specs)
HTC U Ultra - got from imobilephonex
Hey there
I got from New HTC U Ultra form imobilephonex
Really good price & brilliant phone :good:
Here is the breakdown officially from HTC's website. The dual band international version is missing 2, 4, 12 and 17. 17 being the most important one.
So get this I wake up to a text from FedEx saying I have a package coming I didn't order anything else so it's out for delivery! I checked the HTC site and it still says it hasn't been shipped and no tracking number!
It's cheaper on eBay (649) and it's from a US based seller instead of having it shipped from Asia. What is holding me back from this phone is the horrific resale value of HTC and LG products. Once the S8 is announced/released this HTC U Ultra can be purchased for an insane amount less than full retail. Apple and Samsung phones hold their value well even used but unfortunately phones like this are not worth buying new for full retail IMO.

Having an LTE sign does not mean it supports the entire range of the network.

Question 5G not working in Kuwait

I just bought Galaxy S22 Ultra from Samsung US website unlocked, then my work moved me to Kuwait. I purchased a 5G sim card but was never able to connect at 5G speed (my carrier is Ooredoo).
I went back to the store the the sales person took my sim card and placed it in an iPhone and the 5G worked perfectly with a speed of 750.
I called Samsung and they told me that because you have a US version, it should only works 5G in the states.
Any suggestions please on what to do?
Please note that I already checked all basic settings like selecting the 5G network and checked the APN settings for Ooredoo.
Sounds like the bands aren't compatible. What 5G bands is ooredoo using?
This is what I found
Ooredoo Kuwait

The thing is a company like Apple makes only one version of each model that works everywhere in the world but here Samsung make many varieties of the same model that region specific... Unbelievable. I will no longer buy Samsung and will switch back to iPhone.

Just make sure not to buy one in kuwait. They don't have the mmwave bands for the us. So apple does make different models for different markets too. This year just happened to have the 13 series with most bands(not all)

What is this? This is a guide on how to enable all LTE and 5G bands on the US or Canadian S22 series phones by going through the service menu. This guide is mostly based on this S20U guide by mellojosh, but has been adapted for the S22U phone...

Process is relatively easy, and after completing either of those two above, phone ends up with all 4G and 5G bands available
