$droyd$ leaving? - HTC One S

Hi everyone,
I was shocked when I saw all of $droyd$'s threads renamed and closed. I have tried searching but could only get a very general and vague idea of why he left. Does anyone know which post(s) contributed to this?
Really sad to see such a good developer leaving our forums because of a few ungrateful people
Thanks

would know this too :crying:

If you look in said threads you would see why.

AW: $droyd$ leaving?
He is leaving because we got some ****ing unthankful kids in here that just can't show respect. This is destroying our nice community! I think everybody who is not able to play around with the device itself to sort problems out should be leaving xda right now. This board is not made for people that are not willing to learn and work. No problem with noobs, everybody starts small, but that "let-others-google-it-for-me" mentality just sucks. Sorry dudes.

You are right dude but acting like a stubborn child is the right way?

Pay to Post?
Maybe it should be pay to post in the developer section? I don't mean every time, but you have to of made a minimum donations to gain access. That way you get people who truly want to contribute and want to see the developers succeed. It will weed out all the question askers and complainers. We already have General, Q&A, and a Help threads to solve all their problems, they don't need to take it to the dev. I only think this should be used to restrict posting, not reading. This money could be pooled and distributed to "Recognized Developers."

I've never used any of his works, but honestly if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. I totally agree that everyone should be more respectful and thankful for the time and effort put in by the devs. However, as a dev, you must be willing/able to accept criticism and realize you will never design/build anything that will satisfy everyone. Yes, there are many users on XDA who are childish and ungrateful for what they are given... but it is just as childish to not only abandon your work, but fully remove it from the larger community.

xda is full of maggots(noobs). i will do the same some time soon! some guys here are nice, some others are here for troll the threads, others to ask to much. the respect for kangers and developers here in xda is lost!.
development from my works is stoped untill these maggots learn some respect and be thankfull!.

I have to say that I agree with you.
The devs are often treated like they are gods, which they are clearly not. They should be respected for their work, of course, and I feel like everyone should donate a lot more money (what are 5 bucks for an awesome rom every once in a while?!), but the attitude of some devs, or rather those people trying to "protect" the devs are, in my opinion, even worse then the childish users here on xda.

Yep a few idiots ruining it for everyone. Sad to see this as this was a great dev and will be missed.

Hmm, his reaction is questionable. I can understand that he is p****d off by some users. But for that problem he has got "Add to ignore list". Why didn't he use that?

Look at the **** other devs get this is a common problem on xda I thought droyd had it good compared to other devices. Hell task a popular dev here has to lock his thread each day.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

Used $droyd$'s ROM's and he was always helpful and obviously put a LOT of time and effort in.
But the fact is that you'll always have some whiners and people who expect things(get needy) they shouldn't, and if you can't cope with that then this is bound to happen.
It's a shame it happened, I respect $droyd$'s decision, but he could and should have just ignored the whiners here...and concentrate on the 99% of users here that ARE grateful.

AW: $droyd$ leaving?
Sorry but who the hell acted like a stubborn kid? Don't get what you are referring to...

Leaving XDA because some users are rude/stupid is like leaving a pool because you didn't want to get wet. I've been hanging around here for many years and, while there are certainly more of them due to android's popularity, the level of trolls has always been high. I didn't even know there was an "ignore" function...I've just developed a mental "ignore" to be able to tolerate the thread bloat.
If you're making ROMs for other's approval, you are going to be disappointed...if you make them for yourself and share them with others, then [email protected] the trolls and enjoy your hard work.

That's a kind of point I made in the other thread: Functional critics are good, you can even learn with then to make your roms better. Trolls must be reported. Simple.

Its not that they make them for other peoples approval either. Its just hard and a thank you from time to time makes it easier. The people who treat the devs like crap make them not wanna do it anymore plain and simple. They are people too and they need that validation for working so hard and I don't blame them.

Respect - Dev's

This section is full of the most ungrateful whiny bunch I have yet to see in any mod type forum. I really feel bad for the mods for this phone and I have a great deal of respect for the amount of bs and stupidity you have had to deal with.
It is very clear to me that far too many users in this section lack the proper respect and understanding as to the amount of work and time goes in to 3rd party phone dev. They take your work for granted and cry at every point they get a chance.
There is a big difference between reporting a bug and "OMFG X Doesn't work wtf I donated and the world is ending" (*cough* bella *cough*).
"you all" need to grow up and get a grip on how this scene works, or seriously MOVE ON.
Again thank you dev's for all you do and all you deal with, I can't imagine your frustration.

This. I agree. Creating this thread and throwing a stone at the same time, is no different than the petty nonsense that was happening in gtg's dev thread. Just stop it, ask a mod to remove this thread, and like most things on the internet, it'll be forgotten.
This thread just throws salt in the wound.
It's pretty nauseating. With any sort of open source software, you're going to get jerks who assume that devs owe them full-time work commitment for miniscule donations.
If you're going to want the attention of someone paying for full-time work, keep your donation and invest in some books on development. It's open source, do it yourself instead of complaining that other people aren't living up to your standards. (I'd love to see any of the people complaining churn out even simple development.)
Love Infused! Admire the work! Awesome job!
Although the technical programming stuff is way over my head, I have to say that I am totally loving Infused. I've done each update since stable was released and have had a very good experience using it. I've also tried some of the apn suggestions and added Infusion since the updates where put on hold. Before Infused, I had to use the unbrick to fix my own mistakes twice. I've played with phones before, so I know I am taking a risk with anything I add or try. Tweaking, adjusting, and sometimes starting over are just part the the process. Maybe frustrating at times, but also part of what makes trying to get the most out of your phone fun and exciting. If people want to enjoy the rewards of the mod, they have to also accept the risks of the mod too.

Well, looks like it is. Any criticism of xda is not tolerated here, and this thread will lead to criticism.
If you still care for my opinion...
No, sharing is not xda spirit anymore, well at least not for some people. Popularity and donations is, by the looks of it.
I do not say that this applies to everyone, only to certain people, and it looks like xda supports it in general.
And members cannot express their view if their view goes against what xda likes to hear.
SOPA anyone?
Just saying
If you decide to post something in this thread, please consider that there should be no flaming, profanities etc, so xda does not have good grounds to close it.

....sigh....
Well, for me it's another sad sad day for XDA.
I'm "really" thinking HTC should step in, collect THEIR assets once and for all.
This is never going to stop this way. This was (yes was) a sharing community, and honestly is doesn't feel like a community anymore.
For me, and I regret to say this, the only real solution for this is when HTC relocks their bootloaders so custom roms become a thing from history.
There's just too much showing off, whining this, whining that and all other crap going on.
And really what is the point??
We are all in the same boat, wanting the exact same thing!
I just cannot understand this.
We buy HTC especially for this line of "work".
People should think twice or even five times before letting their d... deside.
Anyway, my 2 cents (IC's )
Lol, you should have known it would happen.

The sharing mentality of XDA has not gone away. But it's certainly been reduced in light of WinZip wizards and cocky chefs who think they're God's gift to a device. The heart of this latest flare up is the simple fact that 3 devs refuse to work together or cooperate in any way. We (the moderators) deal with hundreds of reported posts everyday, and quite frankly I pitty the members who allow such infantile sh*t to occur.
Regarding sharing: Just because someone has a source that allows them early access to a file, which has happened since all the way back in WM's days here, they are under zero obligation to share it with anyone else. Most times this can risk exposing the source, which could potentially shut everyone down.
The key difference between then (WM) and now (Android) is that everyone seems to be more concerned with beating everyone else to the release, thereby claiming all the glory and potential donations. Sharing is very much still alive here, but it seems otherwise due to device popularity causing competition as opposed to cooperation. Back when smartphones were reserved for the geeks and otherwise tech savvy people, the community was much smaller, and knew each other on what was sometimes a personal level. We all worked together for a common goal. Don't believe me, have a look around the older sections of XDA, and try to count on more than 1 hand how many chefs/devs ever mention the word donations. Now do the same in the Android areas, and try to find 5 chefs/devs/winzip wizards who don't ask for them.
Ok here's how it is.......
Some of you may not like this but it needs to be said.......
Sharing is and always has been encouraged here on XDA. That said,if someone has a valid reason not to publicly share something, nobody has the right to hold that against them....
The situation we have here is not caused by one single person and is certainly not caused by XDA as a whole, it is not even directly related to the sharing aspect.
What we have here is a situation blown completely out of proportion due to a combination of over inflated egos and petty personal disputes.

There are many many users and developers across the board who need to take a step back from their screen for a second, stuff a hand down the front of their pants to check if there's a set of balls in there....
If there is then they should take that as sign that its time to pull their head out of their arse and stop acting like eight year old girls fighting over a hairbrush...........
This is a development forum. Not a playground. This problem is not specific to the Sensation forums either, it permeates throughout the entire site so do not be surprised when the moderation team take action against a user who has violated the rules of the forum.
That is what we are here to do.
Due to the large number of whiny trolls currently infesting the forums, threads such as this only create drama and bring back the problems we are trying to eliminate. (Whether that was the OP's intention or not)
Nobody on the moderation team has a problem with criticism.
I have many issues with this site. If someone were to tell me I cannot raise them then I would tell them to go **** themselves. However, there is a right way of going about this and a wrong way.
Any user is always welcome to contact a moderator about any concerns they might have. Should you have a problem with a particular moderator then contact a member of the moderator committee or an admin. (a list is in my sig btw)
Contrary to popular belief, the mod team is not some elitist "old boys club" and we do not play favourites. Each and every moderator is expected to adhere to a code of conduct and can expect to be promptly dismissed should they not do so.
That however does not mean that we will not make unpopular decision should the need arise.
/rant
Come On!
I am just plain dissapointed.. I think that the dev should share what they find, after all did they create the base no.... where do they get it? sharing!!! I am leaning away from xda community as of late for reasons revolving around this exact problem!! And now favorite dev for sensation is not here!!
Very, very true. Unfortunately xda seems to prefer to just close thread, give infractions, and try to shut everyone up instead of trying to encourage cooperation. Shall we try to change something here together, as a community?
P. S. Nice to see mods participating in conversation. Maybe(hopefully) it's a beginning of a better relationship?

I agree with both MTM AND NATF, and since I am one of the oldest members still active here, I can also confirm what NATF just said. We need cooperation between Devs and not pride wars.
Unfortunately this is not the case...
Winzip wizzard here (actually i use total commander but thats another story) - no irony here, if anyone has enough time to search my history on xda he will see i always said i'm cooking i'm not developing.
back to the discussion.
"they are under zero obligation to share it with anyone else. Most times this can risk exposing the source, which could potentially shut everyone down."
yes is true XDA can't make people share their source - 100% agree
risk of exposure ? i doubt is the case ,these test build are leaked with HTC's OK, we do the final beta testing for free . Let's not get into conspiracy theories here.
Is not just 3 devs who have a problem, again if anyone has the time to search xda will see one of the chefs had arguments with a lot more than 2 chefs .
Donations. I personally don't ask for them, i accept them .
As for me, i never wanted to be the 1st, and in the rare moments i had a thing 1st i shared it, i never cared about my thread rating and didn't cry when i got 1 star instead of five and so on. don't believe me ? again use the search .
about sharing, good or bad, 1st or the latest, i always said everyone is free to use what they want and do whatever they want with my zip-mods
IMHO I think XDA uses the term recognized developer far too loosely.
mudhi is a developer, LEEDROiD a developer. Mike1986 has no code knowledge (there was a very heated discussion via PM between him and me about that, I won and he left me.alone eventually) and all "his" mods made by other people. he is not the only one, don't think I say this just to have a go at mike, there are also other but at least baadnewz does do own mods, search back to 2.08 base and his own mod based on the beats audio mod (can't remember the original developer)
these people like mike think a bit of hocus pocus in dsixda kitchen make them developers, IT DOES NOT (IMO)
I say this and many of you will be thinking I am a hypocrite. Ha, I know flash ActionScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, tiny bit of PHP, and some java as well as currently learning smali, I came originally from DFG StarMods (where I now have the honour of being one of the admins) which is a flash theme development site for Samsung phones (like tocco lite, star, Monte and the jet)
And another thing, if people make a ROM based on a new leak/release but choose not to share the RUU, then they really have no grounds to complain about kangs because they brought it on themselves by refusing to share. If they share, kangs won't happen so I think it is unfair for baad to have received infraction because it is only human nature for users to want the best, the newest etc
p.s all apk files libs etc from any of our ROMs belong to HTC not the chefs
there are a bit more than beats stuff.
ported amaze camera and album to work on every 2.3.3-2.3.5 sense 3/3.5 rom
when was the 1st leak of android 2.3.4 from Chinese source i was the one who made location / friendstream / stock etc. to work with it and so on

True, but this isn't platform dependent at all. WinMo ROM development suffered from this too.
Donations make people greedy, some guys just made their rom cooking tenure a part-time job. Nowadays Smartphones became over-popular causing this to be a great money source.
In my personal opinion xda-devs should somehow promote/encourage developers that do not accept donations, make freeware, and release their source code for free.

QFT!
Money is the root of most of the problems with XDA these days...
And I can't see that changing unfortunately.
So,are we getting anywhere guys?
Is there a way to encourage sharing somehow?
It just beyond my comprehension that an apple can be given for someone to give a bite to anyone who'd like it, but no one else can take that apple to give a bite. End result is the same in think.
It's not about Mike not sharing when he is told not to share (if that is true, I don't know and not judging him). It's the concept of having something to share but only allowing one person to share it which gets me confused. Why!?

Thank GOD somebody started discussing this! I tried to started, but the thread was closed the second I started it. I will hold my tongue, but you can read between the lines:
Baad
We miss you!

To all the trouble markers on here.

This is only to about 10%-15% of people on xda
To all the Crybabies and idiots on here. This site was a good place to find good stuff. Well that is getting harder to do now in alot of the threads because there seems to always be a couple people in just about every thread on the damn site that cant get along with anybody and always want to argue and start **** everytime something doesnt go exactly thier way. Get a life stop creating headaches in everone elses life. Devs are leaving this site left and right because of all this **** and it is getting worse everyday. If you dont like something in a thread get the hell over it and move the **** on to another thread. I mean damn there are plenty of other threads to goto its not like your ****in world will end or someone will miss your Whining ass in that thread. People need to understand that devs do this stuff for free on their own time. If you think its so easy try it yourself and then if you get it figured out post a thread and see how you handle assholes starting **** in ur thread. Just grow the **** up and get over it.
P.S.
I am easy to get along with and try to help whoever I can just ask anybody in the threads I post in so dont jump in here and say oh what an asshole. Sometimes people just need to hear/read the truth so I figured I would say what alot of people on hear probably want to say but usually dont.
Probably inappropriate. Sorry.
Its not just me dude. Most people on here are tired of all the crap that gets started on here and nobody says anything about it thats why they keep doing it.

I have to agree. One, bucks a stand up guy. Don't believe it? He's a member of another site that I'm on, I won't mention the name because I don't want some idiot who thinks he is an internet badass to start trolling that site. I've been a member that refused to post for a very long time due to all the nonsense on here. This place helps you make your device awesome, gives it faster/better software with more features and your choice of UI design, and if you want to you can poke around and find some good info and learn to do some of this yourself. All for free. Unfortunately there is this attitude that some people here have, I swear its like you bought something you cry so much. I bet the same people that do this here are the douchesacks that whine in resteraunts trying to get free meals. We should all thank you for your useless contributions to society. You slow things down, you cost businesses money so prices go up partly because of you, and you freak out at the drop of a hat to get your way, and you're usually STUPID as a rock to boot! (to any rocks that were offended, my apologies)
Seriously, look at the name of the site. Xda developers. Meaning the people here that are posting things are developing them. Not releasing perfect software the first try. And yeah, a lot of them have donate buttons in their sigs, but how often do they really get used? And how often do they really profit off of it? Between the whining @ devs and squabbling over what is better and blasting newbs who can't find a damn thing in hundreds of trash posts I think its safe to say the minority on this site have absolutely ruined it for the others.
Oh, and before someone comments on my post count, trust me, its more than high enough on my home site. I'm not a dev but I'm no idiot either, I spent months teaching myself what i wanted to know here, and after spending countless hours wasted sifting through 'is it done yet?' It's taking so long' sense is better' nu-uh, aosp is' and sadly my knowledge of all things android tripled in one month on another site. So i went by the rules and kept my mouth shut, hit the search button till it was sore, and all I learned is that there are a group of babies on here that really need to go get a life.
To those who have tried to make this a place of learning, growing, and pushing the limits of our respective devices, thank you. Both for what you have done for android and for strangers, and for tolerating the dingdongs on this site. Good night.

You're both exactly right
The problem is the change in user demographic since Android's inception. There was a lot more respect here before every twelve-year-old and his six-year-old brother had a smartphone.
That's not to say younger members are the root of all evil, of course Just the majority of it
To any rocks that were offended?? Lmao!! Hilarious.

Very true.
There will always be whingers. That's what people like to do when they have nothing constructive to say.
I usually like to high five them in the face with a brick shaped object.. made out of brick
Lmao! I just shot coffee out of my nose. On a serious note, its good to see a few people here have their wits about them. Uh oh, I better watch it, I'll go over my post limit.

Appreciation

So I have been around the SGS4G for quite some time (at first was my gf's phone, now mine) and coming from the nexus forums to here is like night and day. I see constant begging and badgering to the devs, "when will this be done" or "why didn't you finish the ROM" and just constant bickering but never any real appreciation given. I think people don't realize how much time and effort these devs put into what they do and that it is done on their own free time without obligation or payment of any sort. Yeah you see ics Ports on lots of other phones even the old school ones like G1 and such but that in no way means it is "easy" to do what these guys do. Long story short, we should all be extremely happy and grateful for what we do have and that we have such great development and support from such great people. On behalf of all of the SGS4G community I would like to say thank you for all that you guys do, without you all of our phones would be extremely crappy and not fully functional. Keep up what your doing and don't let anybody tell you that your stuff isn't good enough (afterall they're not the ones doing the work) And one more thing, to all the noobs, dicks and unnapreciative people in our forum, stop with the nonsense and be happy with what you have.
Ok end of rant. Peace.

So tru man, u kno it would be incredible if everyone was polite, respectful, and thankful to and for all the things these devs and rom builders do... idk just sharing my hope for our community..
I agree the devs don't get much appreciation, but I have to say even completely stock my phone was an excellent fully functional device. It's just so much better with an unnamed ROM (or whatever your personal tastes dictate).
So thank you Samsung for making a good solid device for me to purchase, and thank you devs for giving me so many options to take my device even further above all things apple.

I think a large number of people would agree with you. The problem is in those members who refuse to read and learn from the forum, and instead they want something "cool", and want others to hold their hand.
I think there is a surprising amount of people who frequent this forum, and who greatly appreciate our devs and their hard work. I've been on XDA since the HTC Magic was released, but I have a low post count. I check the forum everyday, I just never have anything useful or constructive to say, so I choose not to clutter the dev threads.
I really appreciate the work that continues to better this device. Often, I feel like cringing when I see useless/ignorant posts, and it is a shame devs have to deal with it just to release their own work, and for free, and for the public to enjoy.
Thanks to the developers here, your phone is SIGNIFICANTLY better than it was when you took it out of the box. Don't complaints if you have to wait, because you'd still be waiting for Samsung, and you gave THEM your money.

I agree. This phone is awesome even stock but the one I have never acted right completely stock (you're always bound to find a rotten apple on the tree) but bring able to do more (like run gingerbread before it was even available) is all thanks to these wonderful people.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this and then the thread will get locked, but guess what? I don't care.
I have noticed that there are a lot of Dev's and others posting things here that they do for no other reason than to share. Sure a lot of people want recognition, but at the end of the day no one makes money off of this. That's what the Play Store is for.
I'm sure a lot of people would agree that it is very sad that you can't go through many release threads without somebody getting mad at someone else, and worse, getting mad at the guy/gal who spent hours making something which they then shared for FREE.
I'm not going to sit here and spew the same crap about how people should get along and all that; you have parents for that. I will simply say, "thank you" to all of the developers, modders, themers and anyone else who made an honest attempt to contribute. Before you get frustrated and down, remember that for every person who makes a fuss and angers you to the point of violence, there are at least 50 other users who appreciate your efforts. Thank you for contributing to the community.

Agree 100%. People act like they deserve ROMs, themes, mods, ect. You don't. The ROM makers do this for enjoyment. I'm 14 and have a ton of work to do and of course there's school drama. I use Android to get away from all of it. It feels good. Then people reprimand us about how the ROM sucks. It is not cool. I hope this forum gets ynder control fast.

I know you devs, & also the ones that port the roms work hard, & do your best to provide stable roms for all to enjoy. You do it basically for free and I would hope people like me, that use them, would simply say thank you. I will be honest, & let you all know that I am currently laid off from my job, and I can barely provide for my wife & son, therefore I have not been able to donate any money to help keep yalls moral up, but I hope that in the near future I can. But at the very least, I can say thank you for all you do. I have fun reading & learning from u guys, & as far as the people that complain...I wouldn't let it bother me if I were you, because there are A LOT more satisfied people than there are complaints!

Ahhhh! The joys of life
We all love to enjoy the work of others as if it were our own. It seems that as we use it ,we believe that it actually is ours {in my mind. Therefore to criticize is warranted and fair. [in my mind of course]. So don"t allow others to get to you. Developers do hard yet rewarding labor with mistakes , goofs, knowledge, and joys- provided that we who enjoy the fruits of their labor appreciate labor is involved and dissapointment is evident to them and us when problems arise. True joy is achieved when constructive comments lead to further development as well as real progress. If all were fired for goofs on the job all nations would be on the dole [if govts could afford it with no tax base]. Love your neighbor as yourself, especially in this case when he's working for free

Agreed. Constructive critism should always be welcome. The key word, though, is contsructive.
Thank you for you input.

I just wonder how you do it. I tried to learn c++ not too long ago but took a break cuz its so hard. Considering Java is about the same difficulty level and that you're able to make and port roms, you got a lot of perseverance and dedication.

Well thank you again listen. To get into developing for Android, you gotta read a lot and ask questions. I did that, and look where I am so I think you should keep going. PM me with questions if you want. Good luck!

but most importantly, before all of that, you gotta make the commitment. you can't just decide one day to develop and back down the next day. it doesn't work that way. if you're going to develop, you gotta stick with it till the very end.

oh im on that boat right now, it is difficult to begin into this whole development thing, i've been doing a lot of reading, coding samples on piece of paper, researching the forums for question that im sure were asked but most importantly as Saranhai said is the commitment, im down 100% to learn on my free time not only that but i do try, i really try hard to make this whole thing pay, i can modify apks, i already started creating themes for the theme engine in CM, my next step is theming a whole rom then after that i will learn how to compile from source, port and ultimately my goal is on the launcher, i would love to come up with a different UI as everyone else does at one point.
Sometimes people does not recognize the time you invest as a developer, i don't consider myself a developer as i do fairly basic things, probably my big mistake so far is not asking for help mainly because im afraid of rejection, i asked for help in the past (not on XDA but on another forum) and the dev just got his enjoyment to call me noob, rookie or every single word that is out there to just call me a novice after that i just decided to do not ask any questions and just learn by myself, yeah i have questions about many things and probably is better when someone with experience tells you what to do in case of errors but nothing like your own sacrifice.
i really hope this community gets better, as in any forum you will find people that is down to criticize your work in a good way so you can improve and then there are the a**holes who think you have to fix whatever error they have just because you have to.......Me? if you want an honest and constructive criticism i will tell you what's wrong and probably i wont tell you how to fix it as im fairly new into android development but i can do that, i can try your work and tell you whats wrong with it.

Wow. Well, people are a little nicer around here, and you can always PM someone. But, like you said, if you learn on your own it's even better.
