I was involved in the HD2 forum before Android on SD was a wild spert from a dev. and the community over there needs no words of compliment (it is a given) that they are awesome.
Then I traveled on to the G2 forum where the contributions there were amazing as well.
The Question:
Is the Samsung Galaxy S 4G community the WORST anyone else has had the misfortune of dealing with as well?
From:
Jumping ship and advertising other handsets
To: Opening the most rediculous threads Only to lead another person on.
And: acting like IPhone users.

Yes I agree with the original poster. I had this phone for about a week before I returned it because of the aforementioned reasons with this forum. Even offered to send my phone to a dev but got nothing but f'd up attitude from most everyone involved (besides the dev)! If I'm gonna have an android I want a community surrounding it that does not spend all day "DER DER #$% this is in the wrong forum, we have nothing else better to do but ***** @ everyone for attempting to get this community started!"
On a personal note, it sucked extra cause I had just sold my vibrant shortly before the 4g release cause that community also had seen its downfall in the past few months itself. Came over here to see this fledgling little group trying to get off the ground but not being in any way at all welcoming to any real thought provoking conversation. How dare we ask questions and talk about our phone!
As awesome as a phone as this is, it just does not appear that its ever gonna be a dev phone. Wish the opposite was the truth. Samsung is partly to blame for that also.

From what I've observed, there are a bunch of good people here and a few flakes. I believe it will get better as time goes on.

I'm just joking, trying to lighten the mood...
Back to the subject I think what affected this phone was that it came out too late after the Nexus S and too close to the G2x... I think if it had the extra space of the Vibrant we would be as good as that community ... or if it ran gingerbread ... but oh well... we do have less issues than the lather phone I mention...

I think it's just a few who think themselves "forum police". I honestly hope this doesn't turn into the "vibrant" forum's. Please TRY, I know it's hard at times, to be friendly to ANY one. New to old, dumba$$'s to dev's, try to treat them all as you would want to be treated (except for you self deprecating, masochist's ).
I always see everyone complaining about the Vibrant forum, I don't really see anything wrong with it. Or was it something that happened in the past?

I dunno, I'm technically savvy. I did alot on my G1 in terms of mod'ing. Google Experience phones are designed for that.
Anytime you get a phone with a customized rom though things change up a bit. Hence, the G2x is gonna get alot more in the community because it's a fairly stock build/experience.
I knew this when I bought the SGS4G. I like the screen (amoled), the speed etc. I'll probably get the urge to do some heavy mod'ing at some point, but for now I'm happy.
That's just me.
Sure this was a bit of a rant and like most could have been titled a little better. BUT atleast its not in the dev area. If this community keeps being stupid, can Mr. Clown close the whole thing, I don't want him too! But dumb asses keep creating thread that had answee before sgs4g even existed. Hence the sgs4g deal in the vibrant, I mean its not even a question when the answer was where they looked to create thier feeble attempt to go around krylon. Man give him a break! ****!

what issues are you having and sorry you feel as if the rest of the devs other then krylon dont meet your expectations.
I don't get it. What problems are you having with the phone? Why are you complaining about the community? If it's a problem, there are plenty of other forums on this phone (rootzwiki is pretty popular nowadays ). I get that it's frustrating sometimes. I get frustrated too, but please don't project that thought to the entire community. I help out here and there and I get flamed from the very people I help. But one again, let's just calm down. If you guys have an issue with the phone, just search and then post about it. I usually answer my pm's...as quite a few of you already know...

I can only judge it by what I have gotten out of it.....currently my SGS4G runs faster, cooler, and stays charged longer than stock. The audio is better, I'm running GB and I got my choice of 9 lock-screens etc, etc....
Ok, back to the drawing board!
I feel like such a dueche, I was really tired and my expectations were very high! I wasn't ready for any challenges and got very frustrated.
I only woke up this morning to see a kind friendly community among the SGS4G crowd. I guess I got spoiled over on the HTC side again.
My issues are that I feel like I am back at square one... Example: Flashing an EXT4, the only thing I could find was a universal zip for another phone which did not work. I really just need to put some time back into this like a noob again.
Once more I apologize and might just need to delete this thread for the sake of y'all being so nice... Uhg I feel like such an ass lol
lol dude, just take your time. I'm fairly new here myself, and don't find it all that bad. There are lots of guides out now to help you get through flashing a new rom, and there is always someone who is willing to help (I see Jager, FB, dsexton, and Raver in here a lot helping out people).
Anyway, just spend some time reading about the ROMs we have in the dev section now, and find one you like.
btw, getting ext4 on froyo is as easy as flashing the bali kernel in cwm. works great with any froyo rom (including stock). GB roms tend to be a bit tricky, but you'll get it if you follow one of the guides.
Put it this way, my SGS4g, NOT overclocked is running 3X faster than it did stock (according to quadrant) on one of the new crop of GB roms that are out now and is currently on 25 hours of uptime with 65% battery left.

What ROM are you trying to flash? I am currently on bionix frost and I love it completely. Runs on par with the GB roms. If you want some GB, look into icbinb GB or whitehaks new ROM. But let us know what you want to do and we can point you in the right direction...

This is not Mcdonald and fast food (you get it when you want)....There are a lot of strategy and redudencency that overlap to creat your custom ROM or Kernel. I'm tired of reading thesethreads. Google search what you a looking for and it will come to hear. Don't be Jack Ass and feel tough on forum. No one wants to fight in keyboards language If you are upset sound respectible....sound like man.

I was just waiting for it to come down to this. I get the feeling I'm one of the few that read every post in the threads for Incredibly Re-engineered, The Perfect Storm, and Gingeritus up until the holiday weekend began. It's not like the guy just had a bad day. It's more like for a couple months now people were getting way outta line with him about how he built his ROMs. Go over and read the thread for IR. As long ago as last year he was dealing with slugs that didn't read the OP. One of the reasons he put the wipe script in there was because of all the idiots flashing without wiping, then posting how his ROM sucked and had all kinds of issues, like it was his fault. I've flashed his ROMs onto many different phones, flawlessly, and everytime I hand the phone back to the owner they're like "Wow! This thing is FAST!" Yeah, maybe this subject is a dead horse, but it really bothers me how folks treat one another sometimes, especially when the bad attitude comes from a moron directed at someone basically giving gifts away. The mere thought of doing what these guys do makes me want to sever major arteries in my body. But, I'm sure glad they like it because I like the results! I could gripe about how the home screens are full of icons and widgets nobody would use, or the lack of some features like wireless tether in some ROMs, or the screen brightness, or the kernel he packed with it, but is there a point? No. I'm some nobody that stumbled across his work one day and thought "Gosh! This is top drawer work!" When someone puts there heart and time into something and applies the skills acquired over years, it shows. It shows in Chingy's work all the way back to Re-engineered for the EVO. I completely understand how he'd feel reading some of the posts on his threads. I would probably have done the same thing, except sooner. Sometimes I wonder why there aren't as many devs here as I'd like to see, especially for kernels, but I don't need to wonder long. I've screwed up my phone before. I've gotten pissed because it looked like some dev couldn't do anything right, but the reality is if his work was that bad, it wouldn't have been posted long enough for me to download. So I point the finger at me. Sometimes trying to get something to work just pisses me off because I'm not a dev, or even that wise to this stuff in general. Restore a nandroid and keep on having a good day. Pretty simple. It's hard to believe that's too hard for everyone to do! I feel bad for Chingy. More than a couple folks have gotten ugly with him over a long span of time. Gingeritus 1.1 is out now. I'm gonna go get that and continue enjoying how CHINGY, and ONLY CHINGY, believes a sense ROM should work.

These same "fellow" devs say the same snide remarks towards me. There is no code of honor.
That said, if you cannot stand the pressure of some dickhead users, then hang up the title belt. That goes for any dev, including myself. I mean I could get mad and retreat to my own forum because you called me a catty old lady, but I don't have that thin of skin. Sorry.
As for the virus issue, that was effing ridiculous because the dev jumped on me, and he didn't even take the time to read ahead of time and see what the deal was, and that I was dealing with accusations of kanging. QUITE the different issue.
Deving anything in the android community requires thick skin. Sure I get mad. But I have not yet picked up my ball and gone home. The day I do, it won't be for reasons that a user got butt hurt for not reading.

Sorry, I thought in 4+ years of higher education, a grown adult with a *gasp* girlfriend would know some simple spelling, or realize how immature it is to fly off the handle in a public forum for no reason.

@Matt - I feel your pain man. Sometimes as mods, people get a little over zealous with their cleanup powers. Just remember, one mod doesn't necessarily express the views of the whole community.
I was entertained by your thread personally. It was a great alternative for people not wanting to go through the whole process.
Also, remember, with the nature of this forum, its bound to attract adolescents. I'd put my money on that, there the ones who derailled your thread. As for spelling, well, I have large thumbs and don't check my spelling ever. Especially when typing from mobile devices.

I'll look around for the list. On the forums I mod/ admin on, the mods names are on the designated forum so all can see. Not the case here.
Not only have them resurrect it, see if they'll delete any trolling comments as well.

Agree 100%. People act like they deserve ROMs, themes, mods, ect. You don't. The ROM makers do this for enjoyment. I'm 14 and have a ton of work to do and of course there's school drama. I use Android to get away from all of it. It feels good. Then people reprimand us about how the ROM sucks. It is not cool. I hope this forum gets ynder control fast.

I know you devs, & also the ones that port the roms work hard, & do your best to provide stable roms for all to enjoy. You do it basically for free and I would hope people like me, that use them, would simply say thank you. I will be honest, & let you all know that I am currently laid off from my job, and I can barely provide for my wife & son, therefore I have not been able to donate any money to help keep yalls moral up, but I hope that in the near future I can. But at the very least, I can say thank you for all you do. I have fun reading & learning from u guys, & as far as the people that complain...I wouldn't let it bother me if I were you, because there are A LOT more satisfied people than there are complaints!

We all love to enjoy the work of others as if it were our own. It seems that as we use it ,we believe that it actually is ours {in my mind. Therefore to criticize is warranted and fair. [in my mind of course]. So don"t allow others to get to you. Developers do hard yet rewarding labor with mistakes , goofs, knowledge, and joys- provided that we who enjoy the fruits of their labor appreciate labor is involved and dissapointment is evident to them and us when problems arise. True joy is achieved when constructive comments lead to further development as well as real progress. If all were fired for goofs on the job all nations would be on the dole [if govts could afford it with no tax base]. Love your neighbor as yourself, especially in this case when he's working for free

I just wonder how you do it. I tried to learn c++ not too long ago but took a break cuz its so hard. Considering Java is about the same difficulty level and that you're able to make and port roms, you got a lot of perseverance and dedication.

Well thank you again listen. To get into developing for Android, you gotta read a lot and ask questions. I did that, and look where I am so I think you should keep going. PM me with questions if you want. Good luck!

but most importantly, before all of that, you gotta make the commitment. you can't just decide one day to develop and back down the next day. it doesn't work that way. if you're going to develop, you gotta stick with it till the very end.

oh im on that boat right now, it is difficult to begin into this whole development thing, i've been doing a lot of reading, coding samples on piece of paper, researching the forums for question that im sure were asked but most importantly as Saranhai said is the commitment, im down 100% to learn on my free time not only that but i do try, i really try hard to make this whole thing pay, i can modify apks, i already started creating themes for the theme engine in CM, my next step is theming a whole rom then after that i will learn how to compile from source, port and ultimately my goal is on the launcher, i would love to come up with a different UI as everyone else does at one point.
Sometimes people does not recognize the time you invest as a developer, i don't consider myself a developer as i do fairly basic things, probably my big mistake so far is not asking for help mainly because im afraid of rejection, i asked for help in the past (not on XDA but on another forum) and the dev just got his enjoyment to call me noob, rookie or every single word that is out there to just call me a novice after that i just decided to do not ask any questions and just learn by myself, yeah i have questions about many things and probably is better when someone with experience tells you what to do in case of errors but nothing like your own sacrifice.
i really hope this community gets better, as in any forum you will find people that is down to criticize your work in a good way so you can improve and then there are the a**holes who think you have to fix whatever error they have just because you have to.......Me? if you want an honest and constructive criticism i will tell you what's wrong and probably i wont tell you how to fix it as im fairly new into android development but i can do that, i can try your work and tell you whats wrong with it.

I did that the other day. My wife keeps the extra rolls in the hallway, so I had to do the ****e shuffle out to the hallway cabinet. Suuuucks.

I think everybody who is not able to play around with the device itself to sort problems out should be leaving xda right now. This board is not made for people that are not willing to learn and work. Maybe it should be pay to post in the developer section? I don't mean every time, but you have to of made a minimum donations to gain access. That way you get people who truly want to contribute and want to see the developers succeed. It will weed out all the question askers and complainers. We already have General, Q&A, and a Help threads to solve all their problems, they don't need to take it to the dev. I only think this should be used to restrict posting, not reading. This money could be pooled and distributed to "Recognized Developers."
I've never used any of his works, but honestly if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. I totally agree that everyone should be more respectful and thankful for the time and effort put in by the devs. However, as a dev, you must be willing/able to accept criticism and realize you will never design/build anything that will satisfy everyone. Yes, there are many users on XDA who are childish and ungrateful for what they are given... but it is just as childish to not only abandon your work, but fully remove it from the larger community.
xda is full of maggots(noobs). i will do the same some time soon! some guys here are nice, some others are here for troll the threads, others to ask to much. the respect for kangers and developers here in xda is lost!.

I have to say that I agree with you.
The devs are often treated like they are gods, which they are clearly not. They should be respected for their work, of course, and I feel like everyone should donate a lot more money (what are 5 bucks for an awesome rom every once in a while?!), but the attitude of some devs, or rather those people trying to "protect" the devs are, in my opinion, even worse then the childish users here on xda.
Yep a few idiots ruining it for everyone. Sad to see this as this was a great dev and will be missed.

Hmm, his reaction is questionable. I can understand that he is p****d off by some users. But for that problem he has got "Add to ignore list". Why didn't he use that?
Look at the **** other devs get this is a common problem on xda I thought droyd had it good compared to other devices. Hell task a popular dev here has to lock his thread each day.

Used $droyd$'s ROM's and he was always helpful and obviously put a LOT of time and effort in.
But the fact is that you'll always have some whiners and people who expect things(get needy) they shouldn't, and if you can't cope with that then this is bound to happen.
It's a shame it happened, I respect $droyd$'s decision, but he could and should have just ignored the whiners here...and concentrate on the 99% of users here that ARE grateful.

I've been hanging around here for many years and, while there are certainly more of them due to android's popularity, the level of trolls has always been high. I didn't even know there was an "ignore" function...I've just developed a mental "ignore" to be able to tolerate the thread bloat.
If you're making ROMs for other's approval, you are going to be disappointed...if you make them for yourself and share them with others, then [email protected] the trolls and enjoy your hard work.

That's a kind of point I made in the other thread: Functional critics are good, you can even learn with then to make your roms better. Trolls must be reported. Simple.

Its not that they make them for other peoples approval either. Its just hard and a thank you from time to time makes it easier. The people who treat the devs like crap make them not wanna do it anymore plain and simple. They are people too and they need that validation for working so hard and I don't blame them.
