Why people buy phones with disgustingly crap batteries? Because manufacturers make them and people just accept it?
I am sick of hearing about phones weights differences in few grams, (our phone is thinner by 1 mm!!! -how sad) , about screens quality, about processors speeds, etc, and on.. Just because this is where all attention is?
What is use of it all if then users have to carry chargers wherever they go, they have to disable network modes, tweak performance, buy and run monitoring softwear, a lots of hassle JUST BECAUSE those manufacturers are jerks! Like there is problem to give proper large battery option to chose and we will see how market reacts?
I got phone from China with larger battery than you can get on any European market and I am finally happy, I don't worry about anything anymore.
On purpose I set everything to look nice, bright, run fast and never worry about any tweaks unless I suspect unhappiness from performance being somehow compromised, I do play games, I do use internet, I do stream and do other things without fear of not having more power for a call I may need to make. At end of day I have still 50% which will last next day easily.
BATTERY IS CRUCIAL PART OF THE PHONE. MUST NOT BE REDUCED IN PERFORMANCE IN ANY WAY (reducing size).
This is why we have smartphones to do many things quickly at any time instead switch all those cool features off, like everyday life was emergency situation for saving battery -ON DAILY BASIS?
P.S. some brands thinks I will carry second battery with me like I have a pocket and good will to open my phone and swap batteries??? really??? or taking ugly external USB-battery, swinging on cable while I am using my phone or looking ugly like second half of nadset to damage my USB socket with a time and have a patience to keep it charged -like a second device?

No matter how big batteries are, they will ALWAYS fall short for some people. There is no way around it.
The stock batteries in most phones are good enough for average users. You're not one and that's okay - but that's why there are choices.
The SG3 stock battery lasts me the day about 6/7 times - I only feel pinched the day I have a large break and might want to watch video or play games for an extended period of time.
I had options. I could have gotten an extended battery - no swapping, just bigger phone just like you clamp to want. This is available without having to get a phone that may not have good developer support.
You deride external chargers and spares, but you need to chill and realise that different people have different needs and that's why choice is good.
I like having spares. Opening my phone up and changing takes only seconds and I can them in my pocket or bag and I can charge a battery while using a different one. I hardly ever plug the phone itself in any more.
External chargers can power multiple devices and have HUGE capacities compared to even very large extended batteries.
There are so many choices at I don't tnk this is a big/any issue. No battery will be big enough for everyone unless perhaps the technology is completely revolutionised beyond what it is capable of today.
So yeah. Battery issue is not an issue.

Putting in larger batteries makes the phone in turn bigger and heavier.
That's why they probably limit it as people prefer thinner and lighter phones!

I'm satisfied with the battery life of my s3. I take it for granted that i need to use a charger if i continouisly use it. I wouldn't want my device to be even bigger, left alone to weigh anymore than it does already....
Frankly, if the average (read: majority) user had such a problem with battery life more companies would invest a lot more on battery research.
I could've used a more battery friendly ROM on my phone and have it last days on my 1700mAh battery, but I don't bother because at the end of most days I'm left with something above 20%.
I have three spares I never use plus the three year old stock battery, and I've not really ever needed them.
I'm also not really a big fan of "perfection", which for example is why I'm not an iOS user.
Perfection is synonymous with boring in the tech world, and battery constraints actually demands something from the phone designers.
That demand holds more value than most can imagine.

the only mobile phone I had in my life with no battery disappointments was nokia 15 years ago. all phones since they support 3g, failed me.

New technology has higher power requirements. It's not fair to compare phones today to one's from 15 years ago - I mean, dude, back then it's not like you were doing anything other than calls on that thing - certainly no streaming or anything.
I only have a bag on school days - but I have pockets. And really, it's not about either of us - it's about choices and everyone else. Plenty of people Do have bags or briefcases or something every day. You can't just think of your own habits.

It's able to let my brightness100% and CPU stick on 1.6GHz for 3 days and nights!
I own a HTC Desire hd previously. That phone battery life was totally horrible. I had to carry a portable charger everywhere. In comparison, s3's battery life is beyond excellent. (Note: I disabled most of the power drawing apps/functions.)
With that being said, having a large capacity battery is one of the main thing I look out for when buying a phone.

We're kind of at the end of the rope concerning battery capacity. There are just no easy ways to store a lot of energy in a small place. If we were able to build batteries with higher capacities in reasonable formats, we would already have them. Every new advance in battery technology only adds a small percentage of capacity or lengthens its usable service life somewhat.
But I do agree that the phones are now at a comfortable size, battery life should not be sacrificed for thinner phones. I bought the extended battery for my S II, it only makes the phone a 3 mm thicker, but that does add 20% of battery life. IMO they should have released the phone like that, but then they would have not been able to market it as the thinnest phone.

My phone has a dinky little TI OMAP 180mhz chip and the battery life still seems short to me. The battery is a no name chinese 2000mah made in 08. Using wifi with the screen on the lowest readable backlight setting I get about 4-6 hours of usage with light browsing. High backlight, about 2 hours at most. I was just thinking though, all of these new phones have 1000-1500 mah batteries and much more powerful processors yet still retain usability. Pretty much if I do anything other than talk on the phone, I will have to charge the phone every day. Would I benefit from a name brand battery?
Also the first half of the battery life really feels like 80% of the battery life. That last half has nothing!

I'd say a BIG yes to that. To see the difference try using a new battery. Even if its within the 1500mAh limit. Your bound to see a world of difference. My phone the HTC touch has an 1100mAh which i'd definitely call small by the current standards. Yet it gives me about two days worth of usage on a single charge. The battery is about a year old. If your using a genuine HTC handset, needless to say invest in a good original battery. Very useful.
Sadly it isn't an HTC I hang out here a lot because of all of the useful software the forum goers make and all of the useful general knowledge.
It's a no name Chinese phone.
The battery is a GB/T 18287-2000 but when I look that part number up they all look different and even have the terminals in different spots (what use is a part number if it means nothing?). Guess I am stuck with these crappy no name batteries that probably don't put out their spec. It really is a huge battery though. Seems to be about the same dimensions as my screen (3.2inch). A shame it doesn't last long.

I think the SGS is the smallest big screened smartphone. If they were to make it Evo sized, double the batt life and sell it as a completely different phone, that would be great! I mean I would think it would be some major bragging right to say "our phone has 200% the batt life of the next best phone".

Edit: the new iPod has a 3400mah batt. Coupled with the "Peal" which turns the iPod into an iPhone (albeit an ugly one), you basically get an iPhone 4 with double the batt life in a similar sized package...
Edit: I'm dead wrong about the iPod's batt capacity as rajendra82 has pointed out. It was 3.4 watt hour, not 3.4 amp hours. Sorry (for the record, the iPod's batt would be terribly insufficient as a modern phone batt in a smartphone)

The new iPOD touch has a 3.44 Wh battery, which at 3.7 V translates to 929 mAh. The Samsung Captivate has a 5.55 Wh battery, which at 3.7 V translates to 1500 mAh. Since the battery capacity is directly proportional to the volume, a battery of 3000 mAh will be twice as big as our current battery. The biggest phones today (i.e., the EVO and Droid X) only ship with a 1300 mAh battery. 1500 mAH is plenty for this phone to get through the day. Battery life is typically rated at 1000 cycles, which is 3 years assuming a full day to go from 100% to 0%. You are likely to replace the phone in 3 years any way.
Our phones do have large batteries, and as long as you don't have a bad program, have the screen on super bright, or use it as a hot spot, the battery life is going to be good enough for nearly anyone.
The captivate has a HUGE percent of the volume dedicated to the battery already, without using a non standard (non rectangular prism) battery shape the phone thickness would need to greatly increase and have wasted space.
In simpler terms, when your battery is already good for the market, a thinner phone sells more than a marginal battery lfie increase.
What about weight? Does a bigger battery weigh significantly more?
I would love to have a bigger battery or one of those battery cases like my fiancee has for her iphone. I think the above comments are spot on, but i think what companies dont take into account is how much people use their phones for on a daily basis. I dont know about you, but I use my phone a hell of a lot during the day more so than what constitutes as 'just getting through the day'. If im lucky enough to make it through till the end of the day its skirting on the red. A backup battery would be awesome to have!

Sorry, I just realized that. I must have missed the details about the ipod power.
I understand that the captivate technically has the "best" battery, but I do not agree that it will last through the day. I'm using my phone regularly to look up information, text, Gtalk, and make many calls. The phone is dead by the time I get home around 6pm (days start around 7:30am).
the iPad has a "10 hour batt life". My sister has her iPad lying around the house but she and I are much more often on our phones, so why don't our phones have a 10 hour batt life? I think its kinda difficult to use the ipad for 10 hours in a single day seeing that people usually work too. My phone is used for productive purposes usually, so it is very easy to drain it in the 4.5hrs it lasts on any day (not to mention difficult to get through an 8hr plane ride and still have juice to find your way to the hotel when you land). Last I checked, a day was at least 8 hours, not 4.5.
I also realize that they would have to ditch the rectangle/cube form factor of the batt in order to fill the space of a larger case more efficiently (something the iphone takes advantage of). I have nothing against this (or the added weight) and I don't think any other power user would care either.
At the end of the day, a captivate thats as big and heavy as the Evo is a small compromise if it'll last ALL day long and I believe there is a significant market for Android+10hr batt. Unfortunately, the obvious response to that is that I'm wrong since it doesn't exist. So I guess I'm just a crazy person then

Edit: I forgot to mention Virgin America has solved all flying problems with this nifty little thing called a power receptacle in each trio of seats.
There have been at least 10 different claims in the last 5-10 years from companys saying they've found a way to at least triple battery capacity.
so far none of them have made anything...
Have you ever seen those extended batteries that also replace the back cover? They look awful. It's great that the Captivate is so slim and light.
It's unlikely that enough people need that much power every day for manufacturers to implement a huge battery in every device.
Nevertheless, it would be great to have the option.
Third party batteries that replace the back cover haven't been designed by the manufacturer to take advantage of all the space available, they're just made afterwards for the (admittedly few) people who need to stay more than 12hrs without a power source.
If a manufacturer specifically made a phone to accomodate a larger battery, the uglyness+volume/duration ratio would be much better.
Imagine a qwerty slider with a large battery instead of the keyboard: you could live with the additional volume and you could go on for two full days without a powersource.
Personally I wouldn't ever make it without a car charger, I keep a spare battery around in case I need it and even carry a retractable microUSB as a key holder (I use my phone as a music player, the battery drains FAST).
I'm ok with that but a large capacity batt. would let me not have to care about how much juice I have left all the time, wich would be great.

You're not crazy. I think about the smartphone battery problem all the time. It's by far the biggest drawback of a smartphone. Even if you are using it lightly, you still have to charge every night, that is smartphone 101. And yet, if my friend iwth a little feature phone texts me all day, and I text them back all day, there phone... is fine. They can bascially run it all day for three days before needing to charge when it's new. My Captivate (or any other smartphone)... constantly having the screen on? It would be begging for battery after hours. Now of course, we have vastly better batteries than the feature phone, it's just the smartphone is doing significantly more. But still, yes, there should be a way, possibly with non-rectangular batteries, to significantly (at least double) battery life at a not massive cost to form factor and size. And yes, I'm sure there is a market here as well.
Seido is in the development process for a 3200mA battery for the cappy. Won't be long before you can actually see what it looks like on their website

Bigger battery means more weight. Some manufacturers get a little more power out of the same physical size, but if you really want to double the battery, you double the size and double the weight.
Since the phones have no extra room inside, you wind up with a bigger phone.
All manufacturers are trying to balance size, weight and power. It is no coincidence that all the smartphones have near the same size battery.

This post pretty much leads me to believe more is going on than you're saying. With hybrid r3 I was getting two days with heavy usage, also gps isn't functional on that rom, so claiming to use it seems to be misinformed at best

Seido might make some great batteries, but if the batt for the captivate is ANYTHING like the batt for the galaxy S, its absolutely retarded and WAY too big to be practical. They basically just extended the batt brick and extended the casing with it. With the same batt cover, they could have added a whole nother batt right next to the extended batt cuz of all the wasted space.
Not a viable solution IMO. A factory made phone that has a HUGE batt would be marginally larger than the current captivate because they can take advantage of a non-traditional form factor and all the space inside.

Our Captivate doesn't have any extra space, and even the Droid X has a battery of the same size. I am just not seeing the extra space for bigger battery. There is also the weight issue.
Now if maybe the new Dell Streak will give you a monster battery in that big thing.
i agree that a phone with a super battery pack would be nice. me and my friends would always talk about if we could make our own phones what we would want and i always said something that would give me nice battery life so the idea i came up with was this
by default most phones come with a 1500 mah battery
but why not add a non traditional form factor to the rest of the case adding battery to and around the phone like in the area around the camera in the front of the phone around the side of the phone kinda like some of this battery jackets we see coming out for the iphone 4
i think it would add maybe just a built more bulk to the phone i'm still using a tilt so i'm used to carryin a bulky phone
i've always been interested in seeing super cap or ultra cap tech being put into a smartphone figuring if we can't go all day with our battery at least let us be able to get a full charge with in a few minutes ya know
i see ultra and super cap tech starting to be put in remotes were you can charge it in 1 minute to 5 minutes and not have to charge it for two weeks that kinda tech in a cell would be lovely
I, for one, would give up the cool looking indent in the back of the captivate (where the metal cover is) if they would fill that space with battery. It wouldn't increase the size of the phone (much), wouldn't make it bulgy, and I could see it giving at least 50% better battery life.
Even if the phone was blobby, plenty of people are buying Droid phones, and those things are frikin' mon calamari cruisers.

obviously they would have to make the phone a tad thicker and its already so light weight that adding double the batt weight would still keep it weighing less than an Evo
the Samsung Captivate battery is pretty beefy if you ask me, I don't know how they would fit a processor and other components in the phone if they got a bigger battery
ok guys i really need your help/opinions. my mytouch4gslide has recently been overheating while just casualy using it (facebook,twiitter,minor games,etc). and 2 days ago it started having horrible battery life it goes down 1 or 2 percent every minute or two. and also ive been trying alot of diffrent roms and im still trying each one out again but the problem is still there.before i was with tmobile i had an optimus v for virginmobile and the battery lasted much longer and it wouldnt overheat like this. im really tempted to send this to htc and get it fixed?replaced but i really cant wait two weeks without a phone. so guys tell me if this has ever happened to you or what i should do, i wish i still have the tmobile asurion insurence but i thought it was useless and canceled it last month, what shoudl i do?
o and i bought this piece of crap from tmobile for 500 dollers no sh!t and im still paying for it so i would really like it for it to get fixed

Did you get insurance with your plan? Not sure if it covers the battery - but it did come with it, so I don't see why not.
Maybe take it in-store and see if you can get a manager or someone who could swap your battery out? Not sure if it works like that.
I'd be leaning towards the battery being shot, or on it's way there.
If it's overheating a lot, then it's just damaging the battery further - but it's also a sign of damage to the battery itself. Some of the cells are burnt out or malfunctioning and preventing/blocking/impeding or somehow just jamming up the electricity transfer in and out of the battery.
If you do an insurance claim, (if you got it with your plan) they ship you a new phone and when it comes in, you send your old one back. Think you have like 7 days to decide if you want the new one or keep the old one.
That would at least give you two batteries to test back and forth and see if it really is a battery problem (but that's the most likely answer)
You might consider getting an aftermarket battery?
On my second phone I swap out between the two HTC batteries I have, and in my plan phone I have the Anker battery I got. The Anker never gets as hot as the stock battery (either one) for the same workload, and I can push the device with the Anker to do much, much more then the one with the stock battery.

I did do an HTC warranty repair on my second device, and I had to ship it back, they fixed, and sent it back to me. Didn't take that long, less then 13 days (probably by a few days) I could look up my records and find out exactly how many days I didn't have it including my shipping to them - but once they had it, it was speedy service.
The HTC people were an absolute pleasure to deal with on the phone, extremely helpful and taking the time to patiently answer all of my questions or look up accurate answers if need be (and they had to a few times, but you could imagine the grilling of questions I gave an HTC rep since I was on the line with them already)
Definitely seperated themselves from the vast majority of companies i've dealt with for customer service issues (beyond phones into other stuff too)
So past making some awesome tech the people behind it have been fantastic in my experience.
(even if they do make a ****ty battery they should be ashamed of - phone company, not a battery company, but the quality of the battery is way out of spec for the device it's in )

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I have a feeling that people are going to start following you who have been using the stock battery for as long as you have.
It generates too much heat, is too inefficient, and that makes it break down faster and die quicker. The more it dies, the less efficient it gets, and the quicker it reaches the end of it's service life.
If I were in your shoes, i'd call the battery shot and start worrying about what that amount of heat is doing to the device itself, specifically its Snapdragon processor. Heat is enemy numbers 1, 2 and 3 for the processor, especially one pushing the limits of it's design like the Snapdragon does.
If you are running an OC kernel, i'd stop that immediately. Hopefully you aren't or haven't been.

I'd say go to a T-Mo store and start there, do an HTC direct warranty replace as a last resort and consider an aftermarket battery.
The Mugen batteries are unquestionably higher quality then the Anker batteries, but much pricier too.
The Anker battery is far and away better then the garbage stock battery - so even that would be a step up and it's what I run and like using.
(when I can afford to i'm gonna step up to the Mugen battery and gift the Anker to my second phone)
If I were you i'd overnight an Anker battery and stop in a T-Mo store tomorrow to see what your options were and how they were going to make it right for you.
Worst case is an HTC warranty, it's still in the warranty period, the phone hasn't been out for a year yet. I know that's the least desirable option, but if you do have to go that route make sure to mention how the heat has probably damaged the phone itself and they should have a tech or two go over the whole thing with a fine tooth comb. That heat against the processor has really shortened the lifespan of your device.
I say this because sometimes I put down my second phone and turn it off to save it from the heat of a functioning stock battery - a broken one would be a lot more of a concern.
Wish I could say something more positive, but while you are in warranty and have options is not the time to ignore issues that could bite you later.

Especially since this is clearly not your fault - you are using the battery provided to you with the device itself, and that is now malfunctioning. You didn't do anything to cause this, it's either dumb luck with an even worse battery then normal that HTC themselves provided you, or you are the first of more who are hitting the end of service life on the battery the device came with.
It sucks that the worse it gets, the more quickly the problem gets worse. It's a vicious cycle that there is no way out of, because just using the battery breaks it more.
Even if you have to be without a phone for a week because you have to ship it back to HTC (worst case scenario from your point of view, since you have no device in the meantime) they'll make it right for you. This device is too awesome, and costs too much money, to settle for something that's defective - especially since it's not something you did, just the way it came.
Let's just hope for everyone's sake you got a particularly bad battery and this doesn't turn into an epidemic. Because the overheating of the battery basically breaks it more and more quickly, this is about the right amount of time for them to start crapping out if you got it within the first month of launch.
(based on the ludicrous - yet identical - amount of heat i've been experiencing from two stock batteries is where i'm framing this fear from)

Sorry, noticed you said you cancelled insurance, i'm pretty tired, but i'll leave what I said in case it helps someone - I wouldn't hesitate to call up HTC and file a manufacturers warranty claim, it should be covered since it's their branded battery that failed. I definitely give them a very high rating for customer service from my experience - I have nothing but good things to say about them to anyone who will listen.
The anker battery definitely will cool down your device. It seems like our stock battery takes a sh*t after about 3 months... Once I got the anker battery I loved the phone so much more, I recommended it to all my friends with sensations/mt4gs phones.
My one friend ended up getting himself 3 ankers, so he always keeps one on the wall charger, one in the phone, and one fully charged in his pocket. He doesn't even plug the phone into the wall anymore. If you do something like him, your phone will also avoid the heat involved with charging via usb

Well, you trade wear and tear of one part for wear and tear on another. The wear and tear on the USB jack is much, much worse then the wear and tear on the battery contacts.
The USB jack will wear out long before the battery contacts wear down.
The other part of it is every time you open the back of the device you expose the internals to dust and environmental contaminants.
I'd say as long as it's clean, not dusty or anything when you make the switch, that's the better way to go - as long as they are the same battery (which is what you said your friend had ... all good there)
The big thing would be to not make the switch outside. Try to do it indoors, in still air.
The most dust-free room of any house is most likely the bathroom. Limited to no carpeting and usually much less air space for things to be floating around in, close the window and give it ten minutes to settle first and that's probably the best location to do it. Especially if it's real tile, that's the absolute least opportunity for all the dust and fine particulates on the floor in the rest of the house to be present.
So your friends mode of operation (if when changing the battery conscious of dust and fine particle contamination) is probably the best method to stay charged and put the least wear on the device - except maybe an induction charging backplate.
The only problem with the induction charger is finding a case you can work on it with. I don't have one, but if it's the same size as the standard phone dimensions, then you could use the trident case and not scratch the device up taking it off an on (the trident case is mostly soft plastic and rubber, not hard and sharp plastic)
The downfall to the induction charger is you need a charge plate every where you go, so once you factor that liability in, what your friend is doing with 3 Ankers is probably the best method to keep the phone charged while doing as little damage to it through normal wear and tear possible.
Score a point for creativity and efficiency. I might change my mind about the Mugen and just get a few more Ankers to duplicate the method, after thinking about it. If there's a better way, why do anything else? That seems like it'd be worth buying the extra batteries for, i'll just pay attention and snipe some on sale.
Thanks for sharing, that's a happy tidbit of info and i'm definitely going to work towards implementing it. I want this device to last me as long as I can make it, and any way of taking better care of it or doing something like the battery swap method that just makes way more sense is always welcome to hear about.

I should've gone to sleep already since I have to get moving in just a few short hours - but after typing out my previous reply I figured i'd swap my stock battery since you shouldn't let them sit without being used for a long period of time.
(I wish I could charge the stock batteries out of the device, I could copy a shorter version of that method with my two stock batteries - oh well.)
Anyways, when I did, I noticed something. Each came with one of my devices, and they are both the same battery, but they are backwards. It looks like it was deliberate, too, because all the markings are correct for + / - and whatnot.
Don't know what to make of it, so I figured i'd share just to get the info out there in case it's of use to anyone - (for what, I have no idea) - but they both suck equally, so there's no benefit of less heat for one or the other, and they both last about the same amount of time near as I can tell without actually measuring.
Doesn't seem like one lasts longer then the other, and i'm pretty sensitive to that kind of stuff. If people are curious i'll measure them a couple of times each and see for sure, if not I won't waste my time when there's other work to do.
Anyways, I snapped some pictures of it to illustrate what I mean, since describing it would end up being confusing for some and i'm half delerious as it is.
They are both the same:
- brand = (HTC)
- model = (BG58100)
- Rating = (3.7VDC)
- Capacity = (1520 mAh)
- Watt Hours = (5.62Whr)
Different serial numbers, and Different part numbers.
The one that shows the writing/bar code side up when installed in the device is:

Does anyone out there have any other part numbers for the stock batteries? I wonder how many versions there are and if there are any differences between them.
Two of my friends got this device after seeing all the cool stuff I could do with it and being less then impressed with the devices the rest of our/their friends had - they needed a hardware keyboard too so obviously this was the answer.
I will check their stock batteries and see what they are, if it's anything different i'll post that too - might take a few days or so to get ahold of them and find out.

Blue if ur gonna copy my friend, keep the spare in a ziplock bag, moisture is one of the reasons people say u shouldn't leave them out and unused for long periods of time

I have some nylon camera cases i've been using to carry around the doubleshots, and they have pockets that I slip things like memory cards, cables and the stock batteries in (whichever one isn't being used).
Appreciate the heads up, but I got the cases to keep the doubleshot behind a zipper to keep dust out, and when the accessories are in the zipper pockets they are protected enough. There isn't a lot of fog where I live, only rarely and otherwise the ambient moisture is not very high so it's not a big deal.
If I didn't have the cases, though, i'd definitely be using something like that. There were a couple of times I carried the doubleshot itself around in a ziplock bag back in august, if it was raining or going to rain that's how it left my house in my pocket. That's what prompted me to get the nylon cases - and though they aren't waterproof or anything, it's enough to not have to worry about it.
If i'm going to be in the rain then that's what I do - i'll have to come up with something better before it hits the rainy season around here - this time of year it doesn't rain often.
I'm having a similar problem, though not as extreme.
My phone's battery doesn't actually heat up but the area around the simcard. I'm running Pyroice with the extreme UV kernel and underclocked the CPU to 810mhz Max with setcpu 2.1.1a but it still warms up around the simcard area. I also never get anything better than 12hrs battery life.
Should I be worried?

I have had this same problem from day one. Even with the anker battery, and on every rom I have tried. I sometimes use flat icepacks to cool it down when it gets too hot. I haven't found anything fix.

I use my Mugen as my regular battery and my two Ankers as spares. I only have the OEM battery in case I need to send it to T-Mobile.
So I got the model numbers from both stock batteries that my friends have for their phones. Both are the same.
- part number 35H00153-00m
...and that matches one of the ones I have from above.
Anyone else have any other model numbers on their stock batteries that are different?
It would be nice to know what's out there and if a particular model seems to do better then another.

I run both stock batteries in one phone, and the anker in the other. Very rarely does the anker device get hot enough that I take notice and pay attention to it, but it does happen.
The one swapping out stock batteries back and forth can trigger a battery switch if it has been two days and I haven't swapped, or it gets too hot.
If it gets too hot I turn it off, let it cool down and then turn it on with the other battery. I try to keep the one not in use as full as viable, but never less then about halfway for more then a short while.
Enough people have shown a serious reduction in heat of the device by using an aftermarket battery that we've concluded pretty solidly that the stock battery is responsible for a large portion of the excessive heat.
Heat is the number one enemy of these kinds of batteries and microprocessors. If it starts to get hot enough to be uncomfortable in your hands, then you should start thinking about letting it cool down before running it so hard.
It happens more frequently then i'd like with the device running stock batteries, but I always make the decision that whatever i'm doing isn't worth aging the device and reducing it's service life just because I couldn't stop using it for a few minutes to let it cool off. The money I spent on it means more the longer it's in service, abusing it unnecessarily is wasteful to me.
I'm pretty particular about things like that, just my way. Your mileage may vary.

i can't really say i've noticed it getting hot enough to take notice of it, but then again, i mainly use the Anker, since i only need to charge it once a day.
i was wondering if there's a chance that the heat issue is something HTC addressed in the last OTA update? definitely hard to say, but possible i suppose. perhaps i can try using the stock battery on the newest stock ROM and see if it heats up.
I doubt it's a matter of software or we wouldn't see much if any change when swapping to a different battery like the mugen or anker.
Any theory is valid until disproven though, and you never know unless you try so let us know how it turns out.
Hello all, I come to you today about the Inspire 4G's dismal idle time.
After having used the device for about a year I decided to perform some maintenance on the likely dismal specifications and purchased an updated battery. After a few weeks of use I peaked at around 3-4 days of idle battery life, which is fairly impressive for an Android device, especially on a non-stock rom.
I'm running Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 by mike1986. I typically overclock a healthy amount because it only seems to effect battery life.
If you're a user of the Inspire 4G, and often analyze your battery usage available on the about page you note that the Display subsection takes up the highest percentage of your battery. Which is sensible, because it's bright and large, but even in times of idle it tends to take up quite a bit.
I have a suggestion to make off of passive observation that perhaps the device includes other devices under the guise of Display. Namely, the speaker. If you keep the speaker at a lower level, the idle power usage of the Display should reduce greatly.
Again I come to this from passive observation, and the fact that their is no power subsection which likely includes the speaker.
Please post your results if you have any success with this and your battery life.
I also strongly reccomend this battery the Ecell 2430 mAh has provided an excellent improvement, perhaps even double the stock battery.

That battery you are using has no more capacity than the stock battery. You can't add capacity to a battery without adding to the physical dimensions of the battery. It's like a fuel tank. The reason it lasts longer is because it's a new battery as opposed to a year or more old battery.

Well I'm interested in where you gleaned this fact from.
A cursory glance at wikipedia indicates that there is a nominal range of energy densities for lithium-ion batteries (250-730 W·h/L), which directly contradicts what you just said/made up.
It's also a side-note to this thread, because the real point of it was seeing whether or not the speaker/audio output is on the same rail as the display, and thus measured in the power usage calculation.
I'm talking about removable phone batteries. Your 2430 is a lie. Scratch the cover off and see how it's re badged. I and another user proved this via extensive testing a couple years ago in the touch pro 2 section. Dude bought hundreds of dollars worth of stuff to prove the point. There's a big difference in the density that can be achieved in a lab and in very expensive batteries, but not so much in the battery made in a Chinese hell hole by some dudes that don't know they're getting poisoned every day(lithium battery production is nasty) and sold to us on the cheap

Oh they know they're getting poisoned, and the stuff they produce is sold on the cheap, they just have to work or else they and their family will starve.
But yes, almost all batteries out there don't match their specifications. The few that do are ghastly expensive- the mugen one is a solid battery that has 1600mah and it sells for $40- more than I got this phone for.
Try battery monitor widget. There are tutorials out there. It will attempt to estimate mah, for the most part it won't be anywhere near what it was advertised as. If it is, check back in six months to see if it still is chances are it'll not have the quality to last.

I was worryed when i read here on xda that some foreign battery sellers just say that there battery is high capacity
and put a sticker on low capacity battery's and sell them as High capacity battery's.
but i had then bought this battery and after testing this battery fore some days now, and it give me around 5 to 6 hour
more than the 1800mAh battery that comes whit the phone. (normal use of the phone)
and it do fit in the phone no extra back cower needed . that is a pluss... if you ask me..
and there is also an app on the Google play store called "Deep sleep battery saver"
that gives me around 1 to 2 hours more .

I got the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Extended 2100 mAh battery from Amazon for 9 bucks, and now it's on sale for 5 bucks.. After a little trimming and peeling back the sticker, it fits without a new back and there's only a slight bulge, and the case I had still fits around it nicely too. I'm definitely seeing an improvement, at least getting an extra two or three hours out of it.

My tips to longer battery life are pretty simple.
Without apps: keep your gps off when you're not using an app that requires it, period. Use auto brightness or keep your brightness at dim as possible that doesn't irritate you. Use dark theme for apps that support it. Disable data when in weak signal zones.
Alternatively you could use a data manager app which does all this. 3G manager - battery saver is decent. It has a blue icon and is only 9 9 cents. There are adequate settings for the cost. If you're a do it yourself kind of guy tasker is pretty cool. Personally I use tasker as it offers me more than just battery saving. For me it handles volumes for certain calendar entries, toggles bluetooth on and off when I need it, auto launches and kills screen dimmer during sleep time when I turn on my phone to check the time. However, there are some functions that seem slightly broke that leaves me pondering the price but overall it's good.
Keep in mind if your battery weak the only thing you can really do to save battery is to reduce unnecessary phone activity as much as you can. My skyrockets battery is toast but only drains about 65% in a day of a work+night. Day off, different story, not so good.
Hate to be a buzz kill folks, but discuss battery saving tips or use the accessories thread for actual battery discussion.
Not going to allow arguments about which battery is best, etc....in here.

PS, that battery looks like something that will rupture and detonate my phone. Not a chance that it goes anywhere near my Rocket.
I spent a long time optimizing the crap out of my skyrocket. I disabled half the OS, and turned off wake-locks for much of the rest. I got it to the point where the phone was sleeping like a baby.
Then I would actually use it, and watch the battery meter drop like a stone. I have gotten used to basically being tethered to a charger when using it for anything other than basic stuff. It's what finally convinced me to make the leap to my current phone. Otherwise, I still love my skyrocket. It has been one heck of a device.
I will say that disabling wake locks for Google Play Services made a huge difference, though. They set the timers way to intense on that.
If i want a non OEM battery i always buy anker batteries!
for my skyrocket i have one with 2200mAh and two year warranty
batteries is something that you never settle for!
