Any way to get Samsung Camera App on CM or any AOSP ROM? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Just as the title suggests. Is this possible? I know the camera probably depends on touchwiz libs etc. but I really want CM but I love the camera on touchwiz. Is it possible to have an AOSP ROM or CM ROM with the stock camera? Thanks in advance!!

I believe it can be achieved, because some gapps have their own custom version of the cameras.
If you have the Camera.apk, try to overwrite the current apk after making a backup first, of course.

I asked this same question a long time ago and was told the framework involved would be to extensive. It does work the other way around though. 4.2 camera on touch wiz. I wish it could be done. Probably one of the biggest reasons I still use TW and not aosp

Thanks for reply guys. This is def the ONLY thing holding me back from switching to CM or any AOSP/AOKP ROM. I use my camera A LOT and the features on the TW camera are awesome, I can't give them up.

Yeah I think the camera is one of the main reasons a lot of us don't switch. It is for me. I haven't even tried aosp yet. I just know I'd miss the TW camera.

Possible to port the jelly bean leak to our devices?

Hey just wondering if any one has given any thought to this, I know the leak is for the European, GSM variant but would it be possible to mix and match to make a Rom.i imagine not without the kernel but I figured did ask.

Read somewhere on here that the CM team is already working on CM10 for this device now that we have an unlockable boot loader.

Yes that is awesome, but I actually don't mind the Samsung overlay (highly modified and running nova of course), and there camera has really grown on me. I take allot of pics and while I like pro capture, LG camera and camera zoom fx, they never really seem to work like stock for me.

i was also wondering if we would get a port of the jellybean + touchwiz leaked update.
for some reason i like touchwiz a lot more then stock now.
Even AOSP Jellybean without Samsung enhancements would be interesting to try.
I'm not much into CyanogenMod (no offense to its many fans).

[REQ] SGS Stock Cam.apk

XDA,
Requesting stock sgs 3 cam.apk to AOSP based roms. stats are in sig.
thanks
not possible, if you looked around you would know it relies on the touchwiz framework.
As he said the stock camera needs the touchwiz framework so it could he possible, but probably a pain. However check this out. Its still the AOSP camera, but adds the features if the stock camera.

no need to be an ass bro. im pretty sure it relies on TW. it was a shot in the dark question plus, i've searched for many things on xda and found nothing ... and sometimes when asking a simple question there's that 1 person out of 340958329584439589 member that may have the solution.

[Bounty] Absolutely barebones, stock, pure Google ROM needed. No mods...

I'm hunting for a 100% pure Google, stock, barebones ROM for my S3. Not aokp, not aosp with this mod or that mod. Just a stock, pure replica of what is on my Galaxy Nexus. That's it. I can't compile it myself cause I don't have the machines otherwise I would. So, I'll pay someone to take those Nexus factory images and make them/it flashable on my GS3(for lack of better terminology).
That's not going to happen. Aosp is as close as your going to get.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
So is this a bounty or you just putting up money for someone to do it for you. You might want to list what you are willing to pay.
Why not just run CM10? Even if someone builds a rom without the mods it will still have the same issues as all the other AOSP roms.
What is the benefit of this ROM?
Tweaks, bells, and whistles is much better.
I just prefer a stock experience. It is THE one thing I miss about the galaxy nexus. I don't know what kind of work, time or effort goes into compiling a rom but I'd pay what the dev assumes is a fair price.

You wont see this build anytime soon unless someone wants to personally make one for you. And honestly using CM10, you can disable all mods yourself with some simple googling or unchecking boxes.......
tiesfess the
AOSP is the closest you'll get. out of curiosity, why is this not suitable?

Would you be okay with a port of an AOSP ROM that has no mods? I'd like to help you out, but I don't really have the time to compile one from source right now. I can port AOSP pretty quick.

Dude AOSP is a 100% pure Google, stock, barebones ROM.
Sounds like you are one of those Vanilla Android snobs, that doesn't know what Vanilla Android is.
Have you even tried flashing CM10 or AOKP to see if you like them?
Don't know why you are against any Mods but most AOSP based roms allow you to disable mods pretty easily in the settings. If you really want someone to compile a totally "vanilla" rom, you should state how much your are willing to pay.
Otherwise just flash CM10 or AOKP and disable anything you don't like

Yea haha, I dont think the OP realizes that AOSP more or less CM. After all Cm is based on AOSP
AOSP is much more stable and sometimes tends to get better battery life. Sometimes people don't need crazy optimizations and features cluttering the ROM up.

This is true if you have a Nexus phone since AOSP is created to work on the NEXUS reference design.
However, for any other phone unless you have the manufacturers documentation(which Samsung has decided not to provide ), most of the time to get everything to work you have to use a workaround or even port some of the stock UI code to AOSP to get the phone to work.
As you probably already know there still isn't a "Vanilla Android" rom you can flash to the GS3 that has everything working with or without customization. In fact most phones don't have a pure "Vanilla Android" rom that works without any customization.
In terms of speed and stability, I'd argue that CM7.2 was as stable or more stable than most of the skinned manufacturer 2.3 roms. Eventually we'll get there with JellyBean
IMO "Vanilla Android" ignores Android's greatest strength, but if you really want "Vanilla Android" with no additions get a Nexus phone
The OP wants someone to compile AOSP from source for his GS3, he doesn't seem to understand that it would not function on his phone, because AOSP is designed to function on Nexus.

He wont ever have vanilla AOSP, EVER. AOSP needs to be hacked to work...... our phone isn't a google reference device for a reason.
Peter Alfonso Bugless Beast series is the main rom I've seen that was AOSP with a absolutely no mods. I've only seen a few builds not on a nexus though, like the Droid Incredible.

I know that... but you can compile pure aosp using the device and vendor files that your CM10 maintainers have created to compile AOSP which should function the same as it does on a nexus device except for device specific stuff.

I bet if you removed the CM stuff from a CM rom (wallpapers, build.prop, bootani) and modded the settings.apk to not show the cm settings panel the OP couldn't tell the difference.

Thoughts on Google Edition Camera?

With the never ending camera "stuff" on AOSP, what is everyone's general thoughts on the recently leaked Google Edition Camera? I personally have used TW mainly for better reception, bluetooth, and camera, but I flashed LiquidSmooth the other day for fun, and I honestly thought reception was just as good as my CR7. Much improved since the last time I tried AOSP, which was last December. The main issue would be the loss of the TW camera. Anyone have experience with the new Google camera? Just looking for rational responses that may help others as well, not a TW vs. AOSP debate.
I run both on stock 4.1.2. I like the tw camera because it has more options such as HDR. But I also like to make photospheres. You could find the download and see if its worth the switch.

Google Edition camera is quite annoying and crippled in options compared to CM nightly
Thanks for the replies. I've grown to really like the TW camera, and the fact that I know everything in it will work how intended. I guess, like always, you have to try it to see. I may look into the CM camera, as well as maybe just running the TW cam with the GE 4.3 cam.
Yeah the developers have the AOSP camera so far beyond the Google edition camera that it's not worth discussing really.

Im running PA and I use the AOSP modded camera. It has working HDR and other features but the FFC is a bit wonky. I was really missing the TW camera but now not so much. I dont use my FFC to take pics much and it works fine with video like skype. I found a work around to taking pics with it, just start recording a video with the FFC and then take shots while recording. Then just delete the vid. Pics are good to go.

I like the TW camera way better than the AOSP version because more color effects, anti-shake feature, and all of those best face features but I give a thumbs up to the nice layout and the speed the aosp camera has to offer

I'm hoping Google will release a camera apk with HDR and Photosphere soon..
Can't wait .. I miss TW camera options. It'd be nice to have the option to store pictures in external sd.
I would love to see someone port over TW camera to work with non TW roms.
I hate the Google Edition camera. I don't like the controls and miss the burst mode from the stock camera

Which ROM are you using that doesn't allow moving to SD card? The first beta 4.3 build I tried didn't have move to SD card option but that was fixed almost immediately.

I'm on LiquidSmooth 3.0 unofficial with BMS.
Pushing the menu button doesn't do anything while I'm on google camera mode. It freezes up if I don't manual focus before I snap a pic. So there's a newer apk download available? I have Gallery 1.1.40012 insatalled with photosphere btw.

[Q] AOSP Camera

I'm expecting hate and anger for this question, but I want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything. Is there any way to get a decent camera with touchwiz quality on aosp? A mod or a good camera app or anything? I REALLY want to get off TW and the stupid camera thing is always holding me back.

To be honest, no. I've tried many, many different aosp roms and even different cameras, but you'll never get the same stability and especially quality as you will on TW. I have the same problem as you, as soon as I go aosp I eventually go back to TW for signal and camera.
