i dnt understand ur problem
anyway...
u want to wipe data? something like factory reset?
unlocking bootloader is only for gaining access to resources that wants super user privilege
do not factory reset your phone through bootloader, nor settings ,or u will stuck at htc splash screen
if u followed instruction in this post =>jaggyjags tutorial on rooting htc pico(explorer)
then if u want to wipe data/factory reset=>u can do this through recovery
and u must know this,we wipe data/factory reset when we want to flash new rom
unless,no need to wipe data

I hve no problem my question does unlocking bootloader wipes all data from the phone
hit thanks if I hve hlped you

No, it doesn't, or at least with me and something like 10-15 phones from Bulgaria are with untouched data after unlocking, with some factory reset may occure (I believe somebody has sayed that his data was reseted), so far I have not come across data wiping.

Used Sensation.....Help please

Ok, I bought today a sensation from a guy, he told me he was the first owner, that he didn't rooted or anything....
I did a Data Factory Reset
When I was trying to root the phone I saw that its already S-off
Hboot: 1.17.0008
I checked for root access and its rooted.
Now I don't know what to do, I don't know if it has CMW recovery installed already. I'M NEW TO THE SENSATION, so I'm a lil lost here.
*it looks stock, like no Rom its installed on it. Also I don't see SuperUser on my apps

If you aren't sure just install clockworkmod recovery anyway. You wont hurt anything.

Who ever had it before could've uninstalled SU before selling it. You can download the super user app from the market.
Boot into recovery to see if it has clockworkmod
First go to your phones settings/power and uncheck fastboot. Then pull battery and replace. The hold volume down and the power button until device turns on into bootloader. There use volume down key to navigate to recovery. In that screen it will tell you if you have clockwork installed or what have you...
Hope this helped

S off stand for security off.
It's Nand security off.
The root provide software level permissions only. Like Changing custom rom Changing custom recovery etc..
But soff will be the perfect rooting of system gain full access over ur phone.
It has following advantage.
1.u change the bootloader
2. Resize the system partition to install larger rom In ur mobile.
3.changr the ime number.
4. Remove any carrier lock on the phone.
Disadvantages.
Simply If u r an expert nothing disadvantage.
If ur a new bees everything disadvantage u may brik ur phone completely.
I hope this information will help u.
If this information helps u hit on thanks.
Sent fro htc explore with stock rom

4). What is S-off
S-OFF means that the NAND portion of the device is unlocked and can be written to. In other words more options will be available once s-off is attained

[Q] Will I lose data if i don't install custom rom and only root.

Will I lose data if i don't install custom rom and only root.I will unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery and superuser. Will I lose app apps and their data.
No but it is recomended to do factory reset, if you don't it's not bug deal, on the ather hand you can back up your apps with titanium backup(after rooting) and then do factory reset, after that you safely can restore them.
HTC says you will lose everything after unlocking bootloader process. But it haven't deleted anything for me . Everything worked fine after just rooting. By the way, you should backup apps, just in case.

Same happened for me... I had all the data aftr rooting and flashing recovery.
power the droid
I don't know why someone above suggested doing a factory reset, that is completely unnecessary after rooting, and I think would actually cause boot loops.
No data was lost when I rooted, although HTC do say it will be. I haven't heard of anyone who actually did have data lost though.
Yes making reset from menu will cause bootloop, after rooting resets should be made from recovery, idea of making reset is to start fresh, mostly people rooted the phone so they can move app's to sd, if you use some kind of script, already installed apps will give fc, that's why is recomended. Again it's not nesecery it's just recomended, and you always can use titanium after that.

Same for me also. I think for advance precautions they warning like that. But simple boot unlock and rooting will never modify any user data.

Yes, He is correct because menu will cause bootloop so u cant go in recovery mode..
No
No. You wont lose any data. You just gain super user permission by rooting

Now you flash some custom rom, 2.3.5 and then cranium, if you want you can get your back up, and that's it .
[friendly advice] Next time you read a bit more and don't panic
backup restored and everyone pannic at first time bootloop lol
Yes, than you realize that there is nothing to be scared about especially when we don't have s-off, to hardware brick this device you need a lot of tallent, or a hammer. First time when i saw htc white screen was really scary, after that I got used to it (then only custom rom was jaggy's 2.xxx something version and to get white screen was pretty much mandatory )
