Anybody try one of the LCD Density modifying apps yet? Tried one but is extremely slow and seems to fail when initiating a reboot start. Really wanna get it running so I can actually use apps developed for the 10 inch tabs, for example the Deodexed Google Movie Studio. I am kinda disappointed in that even though the GT 7.0+ runs Honeycomb, the screen resolution is preventing it from running things like Movie Studio or Photoshop Touch. Also, should I really have to worry about backing up my ROM in case I set the device to a resolution that the boot doesn't like? Only asking cuz it was mentioned in other LCD Density Modding apps. Thanks for any advice or help!!

Absolutely, I tried setting my to 180 and it cause the tablet to go into an infinite boot loop.
the default dpi for 7+ is 160
the biggest number you can got is around 170... more than that... you're screwed...
lowest no i have put on is 120 but the font will be small...

What app were you using? I was using "LCD Density for Root" but it really lagged and I was never able to get it to reboot and apply new resolution settings. I was really only considering using 140 mayybe 120 at most because I just want to able to run apps developed for 10.1" screens REASONABLY comfortable because at standard resolution, buttons become so crowded they render useless and sometimes apps crash because the resolution is not big enough.
i just edit the build.prop manually but if you want to use a program... i suggest for LCD Density Modder by BIRDAPI INC
it requires root...
I hate Tab 7 plus LCD density 'cuz it has nothing to do with its dimensions. It's about a middle way WRONG I guess...
For ex I use ADW Launcher in all of my Android devices. It's perfect on my Xoom and amazing on my Galaxy Note - wich has 300/320dpi - yes its super amoled hd) but it just SUCKS on my P6200!
Drawer's icons are too small and the only way to get 'em right sized is to decrease density to 130 (or something like that, I don't remember right now). Doing that, you'll get all other things f**ked up such as texts or keyboard or keynum pad blaaaaa
I set it to 150 right now and I hate everytime I open Drawer in ADW Ex -.-
The worst thing for me is Honeycomb on this Tab... They could give it Ginger... It should have been treated such as Galaxy Note IMO :banghead:
Example :
From Note
From Xoom
From P6200

I have noticed today after the update that the fonts in my browser appear much more pixelated than before the update. Fonts that were a nice black before seem to be grayish now. Clean edges look fuzzy. I know it's different. I has been bugging me all day.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Thats funny, because i was just thinking the complete opposite after the update. Maybe im just finally getting used to the resolution after owning two infinities.

The update gave me retina 2048x1536 resolution but games are jerky and slow now due to GPU not being able to keep up with the increase of pixels. I'm going to ask Madfinger/Dead Trigger, Gameloft/Modern Combat 3, etc. to scale down to 1024x768 resolution.

Yes I have heard of this happening. I read that submerging your tablet in water solves this problem.

Display and fonts still look great after update. Try going into settings then display options. I have my display mode set to dynamic. Seems to pump out the best looking display. You have dynamic, standard, and movie display modes. I wish the manual detailed more what each of those does. You can still see the changes on the pic in THST option.
Hi, i just bought the Galaxy note 10.1 a few days ago, and when i first started using it, my eyes were hurting and it got to the point when they were throbbing. my question is, has anyone else had this problem? i have a feeling this is because the resolution is not very good on the Note 10.1.
On another note, i decided to go with this over the Transformer Infinity because i read it had problems freezing up, is this true also? what have your experiences been with the Transformer Infinity? have you had any of these problems before?
Thanks,
Ryan

Mine hurt if I have the brightness up. Since I've started setting the brightness at about 25%, it's been fine. It took very little time to get used to that and, except in very bright conditions, I find it's plenty.
Screen Hurting Eyes
You probably have bifocal vision . I have bifocal vison and can't use High-def screen . I bought and returned xperia z just for that , but this 1280 x 800 works great for me . Another thing you have to keep in mind is that You have to try and adjust screen brightness to be the same as your surroundings , because when you keep looking at screen and up and away from screen your eyes have to adjust to difference . The less difference the less work for the eyes and less strain at them . That's why the pirates have eyepatch . When they go from bright sun on upper deck down below deck they just switch eyepatch to another eye and they see perfect below in the dark . ( Maybe You should try that lol )

im 21 i dont have bifocal vision, the screen resolution is crap on it, although im uses to using HD Screens.
and i own a macbook pro that i use daily, so that might be the reason why i think the resolution is to low
I too had tired eyes after using any lcd device for a long time.
Some thoughts from me
- reduce brightness of the screen to bare minimum
- install anti glare screen protector. It reduces the reflections from the glass and allows you to reduce brightness further.
- install screen filter... it allows u to reduce brightness below system minimum. Good for night viewing.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor
- take a break every 10 mins when using the tablet. Always use tv for watching movies... i have allshare cast dongle that i use for this purpose for videos i play from my tablet.
- if u read a lot of books/articles, invest in paperink readers. Very cheap these days.
- one big issue with tablets is that focal length that your eyes focus on, is almost constant. Not good. Try and follow wall ceiling lines every 20mins of tablet usage... it helps eye muscles focus on different focal lenghts and reduces fatigue.
- reduce time on tablet unless it's a job function for you.
- galaxy s3 has super amoled screens which are much easier on eyes.
- last and most imp one. Get you eyes checked.

That`s a real funny one....come on it`s still HD 720P
So growing up u didn`t watch a lot of TV......768x576
I had the same issue. I made a couple adjustments and it became much better.
First change the screen color from dynamic/standard to movie. Might take a little while to get used too. Then change the font on your device to something you feel comfortable reading.
http:// http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958316
Lastly I use an app called lux to adjust the brightness as well as change the warmth of the screen during the night. Helps a lot.
The screen fonts are only hard to read if they are too small. Just increase them to an appropriate size and they are fine.
Regarding the screen resolution. Have you noticed that only the Surface Pro ($1000) offers a digitizer pen with a fullHD screen? There is a reason for that. Those offer full i-series CPU's, not a tablet CPU as you have in your Note 10.1. To run a digitizer pen lagfree on a fullHD screen you need a better CPU and be prepared too PAY for it.
When you bought the Note 10.1 you made a choice - pen functionality vs fullHD. At $500 you can't have both.
I have problems with my eyes since i started using the note 10 plus 5G
I'm a note series user ,i was searching if anyone complained of that
I tried to stop the 5 g but still the same
I went to check my eyes and nothing wrong .
Ill try to go back to my previous note
Wrong forum for your model .
Hello everybody,
I have the Nvidia Shield since two days, and now, I would like to change the default wallpaper. But, I don't know what is the right size for the Nvidia Shield wallpaper. I don't think 1280x720 is the right size.
And I don't want to cut this wallpaper or that it's deformed.
I will try to find by myself, but if you know the answer, that would be nice to share it.
Thank you for all.
Best regards.

Yeah, it's true.
Usually, for example, a device with a resolution of 540x960 (my Motorola Razr Maxx), the wallpaper resolution is of 1080x960.
Why? It's simple ; the screen is shared in fives (in my case) other virtual screens, to find the good resolution, you must multiply by two the width (540 in my case), what gives a finale resolution of 1080x960. I don't take into account the height.
It's the same way to find the wallpaper resolution of a device with fives virtual screens. On the other hand, with more (or less) virtual screens, I won't be able to tell you which is calculation to be made, but that shouldn't be very complicated to find it.
To come back to the resolution of the Nvidia Shield wallpaper, I applied this principle of calculation ((1280x2)x720 = 2560x720), but that doesn't function. I'm lost.

1360x720
The width must be greater than the 1280 because of side-to-side scrolling, but height remains 720.

Sorry to tell you that, but why do you think this size is appropriate?
I say that because I realize by making tests which the wallpaper must rather have the dimensions close to those of a square.
But it is almost impossible for me to find good dimensions
What is the f****** problem with the dimensions of the Nvidia Shield wallpaper? I always succeeded in finding good dimensions for the wallpapers of my numbers android devices (Motorola Razr Maxx, Motorola Xoom 2 ME, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Toshiba Excite 7.7, Nook Tablet, Acer Iconia Smart).
On this blow, I dry, a little assistance would be it welcome (sorry for this expression, but I'm french, and I don't knom the appropriate expression for this felt)
I'm telling you the size of the NVIDIA wallpaper.

No problem. I also don't bother updating my signature, but I'm a technical lead for SHIELD, I personally identified the required size of wallpapers for SHIELD, and was the one who made it the default.
could i request for a link to the original default nvidia shield wallpaper that comes on the unit?
I wanna turn it into a live wallpaper with a water splash effect if someone could link me to the original image and i promise to release it in the google play store
OK i know i am bringing up an old thread sorry about that. However I got my shield and recently i have been playing around with making wallpapers. agrabren says that it is 1360x720 and he did the original, that's all fine and good however I go into photoshop, create an image 1360x720 copy it over to the shield when i am done and go to load it as the wallpaper and it wants me to crop it horribly.
so does anyone know the real size of the wallpaper or how to get the supposed 1360x720 wallpaper onto the shield?
thanks
OK now this is strange and if someone can explain i'm all ears. so i coped out the framework-res.apk (because mine isn't rooted right now) and extracted the contents of it. the original wallpaper is 1360x720, however there are 3 other default wallpapers with the following sizes as well 1600x1280, 1920x1280, and another 1360x720. now i'm curious as to the optimal size of a photo so that when i go to set it as a wallpaper i do not have to do any cropping. anyone know?
edit: i figured out the initial problem that is rotation, i always forget about that so it wants strange cropped might be the best word images. anyway not being able to get a good clean image in there i found an app that might help others, look for image 2 wallpaper if anyone else cares. it is doing a good job for me anyway.
I don't worry about the wallpaper size and just use Nova Launcher, it have a more flexible way to crop wallpapers when setting them.
I know this thread is pretty old, but I was having a problem with NSP wallpapers by not knowing this information. The reason I'm posting up in an older thread is to simply help others, and to grow the knowledge base for the Shield Portable at XDA. The proper size for a Shield Portable wallpaper should be 1280x720. I confirmed this both through trial and error, and by checking out the size of a screenshot. I hope this info is found helpful.

hi everyone
I need to ask something that i was unable to find answer on internet or Google searching. I come straight to the point. It's basically a general thing about devices that i found different in aspect of screen resolution and i couldn't find difference.
There is one Android device which gives resolution of 540*960 on a 5inch LCD and there is an Android phone which gives 1080*1920 resolution on 5.1 inch LCD like S5 AND 1440*2560 resolution on 5.1 inch LCD.
I want to ask what is the difference that these resolution gives, i am currently using 540*960 resolution phone and what difference i would note by using 1080*1920 resolution? will thing appear small on it?
For example on a home screen, i have a gadget of weather, will it appear more smaller? because i didn't get the difference of resolution and their result difference.

firstly i can guess by the post that you are a noob but would like to help you change to pro so here it goes
the difference are
420*320 and below ldpi-small- 2-3inches - packed with 100 to 150 ppi screen
470*320and below IS mdpi - normal- 3 to 4.2 inches - packed with upto 200ppi
640*480and up IS hdpi- large-4.2 to 7 inches - packed with 200 to 300ppi
920x720and up IS qhdpi- extra large- more than 7 inches - packed with >300ppi
if that's unclear to you
try searching up screen support on google or api guidelines
if i helped hit that thanks meter

i am sorry if i sounded noob but i was unaware of these things. I was just wondering what's the difference of resolutions when the screen size is same.
From your post what i got was, that it is basically the PPI thing, which makes screen more bright and colorful etc. so more PPI is based on more resolution or pixels.
I am currently using Huawei G610s and it has 640*480 with 220ppi. I thought that resolution is same as in case of computers, the more resolution the more smaller the pixel and picture size and more desktop area. I am currently using 1680*1050. So i thought in same context and was wondering and thought to ask.

firstly ppi refers to the pixels per inch
it in simple words is how tightly pixels are packed in a sq inch of area on the screen . the more the ppi count the smaller each pixel gets providing you with sharper and intense quality display
also if you did not search api guidelines on google
i am here to help you
here go ahead and just go through the detailed version and i think it will solve almost all of your query

Now. Don't get concerned on how you sound. We were all like that at some point. The resolution that you have probably is around 200 DPI (depending on screen size) My phone (Xperia SP) has a 4.6 inch 1024 x 720 display AKA 720p display. In person, how they look actually matters. Anything above 300ppi is crisp and extremely sharp. A Samsung galaxy s5 has a PPI of around 400. These numbers don't really matter but if you see them in person, they really look nice. Hope I helped you.
