[Q] Nexus S stuck at Google logo, power button not working - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone!
I have a problem that i hope somebody can solve! Lots of similar problems but not quite the same....So here it goes. I flashed a rom and now it is stuck at the Google logo upon boot. I would normally just go into recovery and flash my backup.....but the power button doesn't work. So I can't boot into recovery....it's just stuck. Help Plz!!!! CWM is installed.

not sure if this would work here (worked on my old phone). See if you have adb access during boot. If yes, then you can use the command "adb reboot recovery". Hope you're lucky and have adb in that stage..

plzzzzz help if u can...
nexus S was in locked state...can't able to unlock thorugh "fastboot oem unlock" even all drivers were installed properly...if i try to get in to recovery mode there is an exclamtion mark...what it that..???

I paid a cell repair shop $40 to fix the button. I booted into recovery before i left the store! Back on Cyanogenmod 10. Works great! Should've just got the button fixed months ago to avoid this!

[Q] Nexus S stuck at Google Logo

Yes, first of all i read all other Threads with the Words (Stuck and Google Logo) and i use Google. I spent yesterday about 5hours und could not fix the Problem.
So, i tried to install a ROM (CM9), i do that with the Guide from nexusshack..
I think somewhere between (Wipe System) i got the Problem. Now my Nexus S Stuck in the Boot - i made some Screenshots.
Maybe someone can help me?
same problem here any help?
Would be useful if you could point out your nexus S model...
Anyway, since you have access to bootloader, just flash cwm recovery with fastboot, go in recovery and wipe all, mount USB from inside recovery and transfer another rom for your model to the SD card. After that just flash the new rom and it should work.
nexus s 19020a
Yup....just flash custom recovery....then you can flash other rom..
Hey guys,
like mentioned in my thread before a week ( I will let it die ;-) ) I got the same problem with an I9023.
I flashed factory images including bootloader and radio,cwm-recovery via fastboot, every single action succeeded, but I still got stuck in this *%&/(()-Google-Screen. I cannot boot into recovery, only bootloader is working.
i have the same problem does any one have a suggestion !!
thanks in advance
Had the same issue about one month ago. It was when I installed CM9, there were missing drivers. Do not remember, which exactly.
What do you mean with 'drivers'?
nexus S was in locked state...can't able to unlock thorugh "fastboot oem unlock" (FAILED <remote:ERASE FAIL>.. even all drivers were installed properly...if i try to get in to recovery mode there is an exclamtion mark...what it that..???
It means you have no recovery installed... Use Odin to flash a stock rooted Rom then flash recovery you must have erased everything now you need to start from scratch...

How long did you waited? Sometimes that Google logo could tale a long time. Try going through the root process again

I got the same problem. i can access recovery mode but my phone is not getting detected in PC. just hangs on Google logo (white) :crying:
bootloader os locked also.
My Model is GT-I9020T.
please help.
thanks in advance.
You should try the usb jig sold on ebay for the Nexus S.. It will bring the phone to download mode so you can flash your firmware with odin.. To use odin on your mac you need to have Windows installed with a virtual machine or virtualbox..

I have google nexus GT-I9020t. it hangs on google logo (white). fastboot oem unlock is not working. lock state : locked.
when i go into recovery mode and try to wipe data/factory reset, it says:

if i try to flash using fastboot, it says run fastboot oem unlock command.
it is not detecting in odin also. i have installed the drivers though.

You need to accept the warning message, the screen you attached.
Have a look at redmondpie.com/unlock-nexus-s-bootloader-how-to-guide/ (sorry cant post link as i am new user)
As I said, its been a long time, since I rooted, so I guess, you need to use power key or volume key for any action.

Unable to boot into TWRP recovery (trying to root and install twrp)

So, i've followed the instructions from the guide as best as I could. And my phone is definitely unlocked.
I have ADB and Fastboot installed, and when I use the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" it says what it's supposed to in the cmd prompt.
however one of 2 things happens when I try to reboot after that. It either boots into Huawei recovery with the EMUI 5.0 logo.
or it gets stuck on a boot loading screen that says "your device is now booting..." but never progresses past there.
i've been working and searching for about 4 hours now on how to fix it and it's driving me crazy haha. I just want to install a stock android instead of EMUI.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have the same issue I flashed TWRP 3.1.1-1 from the OpenKirin team and I cannot get into TWRP recovery, I can only get into eRecovery. However I am not stuck on the "your device is now booting..." screen. It actually boots into the system os. Does anyone know how to get into TWRP, is anyone else having this issue?

Ok so I actually found a solution. I have been searching for hours (up until my last post). First download Huawei Multi tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/tool-huawei-multi-tool-team-mt-t3523923 . Once the tool is up and running press 3 and then enter to read the list of recovery options. At this point in time make sure you have usb debugging on. You can do this by going into about phone and tapping on build version until it says "you are now a developer", then go into developer options and enable usb debugging. When your phone asks to trust the computer tap on yes. Now go back to the Multi Tool and press 3 again followed by the enter key. It should boot into TWRP. The next step is a nandroid backup ( I have learned the hard way many times before). Last step is to thank multi team for making this so easy

Factory reset and try again must bootloader unlock
Okay, for all those who are getting errors whatsoever, here i would like to tell you that i followed these steps and flashed twrp and rooted my device with magisk.. as explained by author..
1) unlock bootloader ( make sure to enable developer options, check unlock oem option, check debug option, check unknown sources in security option)
Use "fastboot oem unlock-go" as it worked for me on my canvas infinity hs2.
2) now after your fone is resetted after unlocking, do the initial setup with setting up account etc and once you at home screen go to settings and once again enable developer options, check unlock oem option, check debug option, check unknown sources in security.
Then connect fone to pc, you'll get adb promt on fone screen, allow it and on pc cmd type "adb reboot bootloader"
Then volume up on fone.
And on pc cmd type
Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
(Well the author told to use boot command instead of flash, but boot didn't work for me so i used fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Once this is done type
Fastboot reboot
And as the fone is about to reboot, quickly press volume down for twrp to load. Then you can transfer magisk from pc while twrp is on screen. And install magisk provided in the link.
Reboot and you will see your fone rooted. Voila. Done.

No OS Installed!!! Help Please!

I tried to get magisk to work after installing the latest OTA and I did something wrong and had to wipe all the data from the Oneplus recovery menu. Towards the end in TWRP while wiping, I wiped off the OS by mistake. After clicking reboot, it just rebooted to the fastboot menu and when I click 'Go to recovery' on the fastboot menu it just boots back to the fastboot menu. My device is not being detected in powershell when I type in adb devices and it might be because after the first wipe that happened I didnt turn on adb debugging. I do not have twrp and my device is not being detected by my pc in powershell for me to adb push the whole os and twrp and flash them. I am literally freaking my skin off at this moment. Please help me. If I didnt mention any important detail please ask, Im super frightened so I might have missed something.
tl dr: No OS, no TWRP and locked in fastboot. (thanks to null0seven)

You should be able to use TWRP to reflash the OS. Personally, I would put the device in EDL mode and use the MSM Tool to put the device back to factory stock. Once back to stock, you can get your OTA and then reflash TWRP and root your device once again.

I am not able to use TWRP. In the fastboot menu when I enter the 'Go to Recovery' option it just reboots back to the fastboot menu.
I'm relatively a noob in all this so if there's any other way please mention it.
UPDATE: I am currently downloading the stuffs required for the MSM tool, the download is extremely slow. Will check back once the download is done and I tried it. Thanks for atleast giving me some hope in the time being.

While in the MSM tool after clicking 'Start', I got a 'Sahara Communication Failed' error. What do I do now?
UPDATE: Another problem right now is that after holding the volume up and down buttons simultaneously for a few seconds and inserting the cable to enter EDL mode (it shows as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 in device manager), within a few seconds the phone reboots into the fastboot again.
Sahara error it's not a real error. After that MSM does not finish installing OS?
But first try FastBoot rom :

adb won't work in fastboot, by definition (only works in OS and TWRP). Fastboot mode is for fastboot (and fastboot does not need debugging to be on). And fastboot is what you want, to flash the stock ROM.

No, its written waiting for communication with device and the app stops responding. I would attach a screenshot of the error but I myself am not able to try this method again (Check the update in my previous post).
UPDATE: I'm currently downloading the fastboot ROM. Hope it works.

(it shows as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 in device manager),
this is GOOD. youre phone drivers are corect. Remove the cable from phone.
Do this :
With phone off hold both volume buttons only and plug cable into computer .
Or power off the phone. Press vol. UP, 5to 10 seconds, plug the cable.
Youre problem with MSM tool it's that the phone it's not shut OFF !

Thanks for the suggestion in your previous post, I added it.
I tried both the methods and both resulted in 'Sahara Communication Failed'.
And now even on trying both the methods it keeps restarting to the fastboot menu.
If the phone it's not off MSM not working.
Alternatively you can force your OnePlus 7 Pro to boot to EDL mode by the following steps:
Power off the phone.
Plug in the USB cable your computer but do not connect the other end to the phone.
Hold down Volume Up and Volume Down buttons for a few seconds, and plug in the cable while you are continuing to hold them.
You should see the anticipated EDL mode.
As advised before, you need to download the fastboot package made by @mauronofrio
Run the "flash-all-partitions.bat" while in fastboot.
You seemed mebbe confused before, adb and fastboot are different, adb is only to be used either within the rom or while in recovery. Fastboot is to be used while you're in Fastboot mode. It will still let you flash multiple partitions, hence why the fastboot fix should work.
For future reference, the best way to wipe data while leaving the rom intact is "fastboot -w", that will also remove encryption. (The flash-all-partitions batch file will do this too)
As long as you get a result after typing "fastboot devices" then you should be ok.
I flashed the Fastboot ROM as many of you suggested and it worked. Thanks to everyone who helped out and also thanks for correcting my knowledge. I just want to know if I'll still be getting OTA updates as usual or should I manually download it and flash it from now onwards.

If you've flashed the default partitions you should get OTA, if you flash TWRP and root then you'll download the entire new rom, you don't get an OTA option.
