Standard Qi Wireless Charger (China made) - Nexus 4 Accessories

Hi guys,
I'm relatively new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone here have had any experienced with a standard generic Qi charger from China. I'd recently purchased one online and have been using it for over 2 days now without any problems.
My intention was to actually try this product first before I get a charger from reputable brands such as Energizer or even the Nexus Orb. Is there any difference between these charging pad or should I just stick to the one I have now?
Thanks

it would be helpful if you can mention the brand name or post a pic, if you still cant provide url. i'm recently ordering fasttech wireless charger too, still waiting to be delivered.

As long as it is charging the device, and it doesn't feel like it is getting too hot, then I would stay with what you got.
I think the benefit of the orb is that it holds it at an angle so you can see it while sitting, but that is just a small benefit that normally doesn't matter.

I'll try to post the picture once I'm able to do it. I did also tried to post the URL from the website I got it from but was unable too do it yet due to I'm a new member.

Thanks for the suggestion. So far, my phone is charging well and the device is not getting extremely hot. However, I've only been using it for 2 days and will report back after a week

yea, but it's sold for way more expensive. here's the thread that discusses about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074862
anyway, if i were you i will stick with it. if i want it to charge my phone while it's sitting in an angle, i will make my own dock...

I bought this one for 44 EUR from a Chinese Ebay store. Don`t get one of these. Mine worked flawless for 2 weeks till one day it refused to make a connection with my N4. I think its made from real low quality components... Waste of money.

Just got a fasttech charger, figured Id give it a shot. Makes me appreciate the orb more and makes me feel better about spending twice as much on the orb. The orb uses micro USB (aka universal), secures the phone and doesnt have the obnoxious blue LED on it. Also, the fasttech seems finicky about charging, you have to get it just right. The orb doesnt seem to care.

Something weird happened to my charging pad last night. Apparently, I wanted to gauge how long will it take for the pad to charge my Nexus 4 to 100% from 10%. So after making sure that my battery was at 10%, I left it on the charger and went to bed.
However earlier this morning, I find that my battery was only at 84% charged (after nearly 5 hours of charging). A quick look at the battery stats shows that it charged normally from 10% to 80% and then dropped down to 70% (on battery and pad did not charged, I reckoned). After that, it was charging again to 84% and stayed flat at that percentage till morning. Weird right?

was your phone vibrated sometime during the night that caused it to move?

I don't think so because I set JuiceDefender to switch my device to Airplane mode at night. It's really weird...

Portable Chargers

I dont have a nexus 4, and wont for a couple of months, but since it doesnt have a removeable battery, these portable chargers might be useful.
2200MAH
2600MAH (these look really nice)
Have you tried them? I'm wondering what the reliability is like, do they quickly lose the power to hold charge?
I prefer the looks of this one better. Almost 6 full charges, for 3 dollars more than ordering and carrying around 6 of those things.

Ive tried the second one with my Epic 4G Touch. It drops about 1% each day that it isnt being used. It can charge my Epic (1800MAH) once, and the second time, goes about 35%

An important thing to note is that if your phone has a 2100mAh battery and you have a 2100mAh portable charger, you will not get a full charge out of it, as some is lost in transition. You will usually only get between 2/3 to 3/4 of the capacity of the portable charger transferred to your phone.
I have this for my Atrix 4G and will use it for my Nexus 4 when my back order ships. The Atrix 4G has an 1880mAh battery, and I get about two charges out of it. It is about twice as thick as the Atrix, but about half as wide and about an inch shorter. It also functions as a laser pointer and flashlight. It is rugged enough that I bring it camping with me and don't treat it with much care and it still works fine. Very solidly built.
I bought something like this from a seller on ebay, it came from china. It broke right away, but it seems people are having better luck then I did.
I really like the first one in the OP. I like that it can easily be plugged into the phone while using it. I just wish the capacity was a little bigger.

Anyone have experience with or can recommend a unit that is direct plugged and not needing a USB cable? Something more for emergency charging that is pocket portable carried for backup use for uses such as a quick charge at a concert or sporting event. Carried in blue jean pocket are a other small pocket.
I just ordered this for $23. It looks really thin and has a retractable micro usb plug, which is huge for me. This may be good for the person who just posted before me too:
http://www.amazon.com/SlimTalk-Exte...TF8&qid=1353778188&sr=8-7&keywords=Anker+slim
I also ordered this one for my wife:
http://www.amazon.com/AnkerĀ®-Astro-...UTF8&qid=1353778415&sr=8-1&keywords=Anker+lip
In addition, the company, Anker, also has a few bigger models with a lot more capacity if you're interested. I haven't bought any of their products before, but the reviews all seem to be very positive.

Wireless chargers?

Was just wondering what chargers are you guys using? Im gonna be getting my nexus 4 right after christmas. (Stupid backorder)
I'm using the LG one and it works great. The beep really isn't nearly as loud as everyone exaggerated.... but if it bothers you I hear removing it is really easy and there's instructions in one of the threads on how to do it.

Someone in another thread mentioned that it charges to 100%, then it disconnects until the battery hits 90% or so before it starts charging again. They mentioned they leave it on the charger overnight, and in the morning it'll say it's been on battery for 3 hours and at a 90% charge.
Does it do this to you? Or do you find it charged up to 100%?

The other day I did wake up to my phone at 96% and it said it had been off for 5 hours. But today I woke up to it at 100%. I wouldn't doubt that it stops charging at 100% and then recharges back up at 96%, though I don't believe it drops as low as 90%. I've read many things in the past about people saying phones do stop charging at 96% because it's healthier for battery life and that the last 4% are cosmetic. Don't hold me to that though =P

My N4 is on backorder for about 4 weeks. I hope google announces that wireless charging orb by then.
I bought both the LG and the Energizer single-position. Haven't had the problems that other people have mentioned with the LG unit beeping more than once (when I first put the phone down and it starts charging), even when left on overnight and after the battery is full.
The Energizer is bigger all around than the LG and is much more sensitive about getting the phone in the right spot - and since it doesn't beep, you have to just watch for the blue LED (which is bright as heck in the dark; I put a piece of tint over it).
Ended up taking the Energizer to work, and I've got an LG next to the bed and another in my home office. As far as actually charging, both models work fine and I've not done any testing on speed, etc.
Is this what you guys are using?

I'm using a Energizer single charger. Love that it doesn't make a single sound. Quiet as a mouse.
So far it's charging well.

Battery issues ? Consider a new charger

Just wanted to report my experience with battery life which seemed to be degrading over time and not really reaching 100% every time anymore. I did the usual tricks to get the battery to charge fully like pulling the battery when the phone is still plugged in, but had to do it every couple of days because the battery would max out at about 80%. Bought a new charger off newegg (Samsung oem), problem solved. Charges faster than ever, and holds a charge better too. The old charger is the one that came with the phone.
On a related note, I first bought the new charger from Amazon, but returned it because it turned out to be a fake. Read the Amazon reviews, I'm surprised they still sell it after so many complaints. Newegg is the way to go for this one.

Its been established many times that our phone doesn't like many chargers other than our cube. Whether it was a difference in power output or something else I can't recall as for your issue it sounds like a wake lock of some sort may have been created with said charger that would cause a faster than normal discharge rate causing the charger to be unable to charge past 80% the effect could also be that the output of the charger was not 1amp and the phone couldn't get what it needed in the time you allotted. Really I can't say exactly what the issue is in your case but if you had searched you would see much of this has in fact been documented.

If you actually read my post, you'll know that the new charger is the cube, that is what I meant by OEM. I posted this so other users can consider buying a new charger if they've tried everything else and failed. No need to do the "search and you would have found out" response for this post, cause no question was asked, I was merely sharing my experience.

Charger issue?

After v charging my phone and unplugging the charger it makes a buzzing noise as if there's still electricity running through it. Is this normal? My phone charges fine but I wanted to make sure the charger was safe and not an issue. My battery seems like it goes down fast too though I might be imagining it because I think the b first 2 days it was great and lasted me all day after a full charge.

Nothing to worry about. This topic was brought up in an old Nexus 4 thread and the overall consensus was that it wasn't a big deal. My N4 charger did the same thing. If I never randomly saw that thread. I probably never would have put my ear up to the charger to discover such a thing. I'll have to seashell this new one and see or listen rather to what happens.

rev 10 and wireless charging

The first run (rev. 10) has poor compatibility with a lot of qi chargers so I have steered clear until now. Now that prices have come down and it isn't quite as niche a product as it was a year ago I'm thinking about it again.
There are a lot of them to sort through so I figured I'd ask the forum while I continue my own searching. What name brand (not ebay generics) qi chargers have you found that work perfectly with a rev. 10 n4? I'm definitely looking to avoid charge/not charging loops and not keeping the phone topped off.
Particularly I'm interested in the new Nexus Wireless Charger and the TYLT VU but I haven't been able to find specific examples of them with rev 10. Feel free to make other suggestions.
Sorry I'm lost .. what is rev. 10? (and how do I check what rev I have)
Are there listed differences by rev as well? Never nind.. found them here http://celltraderonline.com/showthr...e-Difference-Nexus-4-REV-10-Vs-Nexus-4-REV-11
I did high tech manufacturing for over a decade and many consumers don't realize that cost reductions, part changes, improvements etc occur all the time and are tracked by the manufacturer in many different ways. The worst way is by serial number... other ways include revisions, product codes, release numbers etc.
I've been using the Panasonic charge pad with my Rev11. Beautiful device.

The early revisions 10/11 are known to be particularly qi picky (especially with the old nokia chargers). You can see the revision in the bootloader.

My usage pretty much requires a full charge when I wake up so while I agree the Panasonic seems to be a great charger it just isn't for me.
I took a small keep of faith and used the 30% T-Mobile discount to experiment with the TYLT VU. Happily I'm able to report that it works flawlessly with my picky rev.10 model. I've yet to pick up my phone and have it read anything but charged or 100%.

i use LG WCP-300 to charge my rev10 nexus 4, works really well, really small too. bought it from the verizon online store.
1 thing to note is not to worry about the heat or overcharging, it will automatically stop charging when it reaches 100%.
review from our fellow member:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166837
Mine DOESN'T fully charge to 100% it slows at 95 and stops at 98 and I have to pull it off and wait a few minutes before putting it back on and it cuts off at 100% and that's not practical for me as it drops to around 90 overnight unlike my nexus 7 2013 which charges to 100 and stays there. That's why I charge nexus 4 with cable and nexus 7 wirelessly.

My N4 is a Rev 11 and I've had the TYLT VU for a couple of weeks now. The first several days it would only charge to 93% but lately it has started to charge to 96% or 98%, only once has it given me a full charge to 100%. I emailed the folks at TYLT over a week ago and have yet to receive a response. I'm not sure if it's the charger, the phone or if the battery stats are just wrong. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I do like the charger though.
