"sudo: not found" SUDDENLY in Terminal Emulator - Motorola Triumph

I don't know what the heck just happened but I just a little bit ago (while reading here at this forum) I went to Terminal Emulator to double-check to make sure it was still rooted (I was pretty positive it was). I opened Terminal Emulator, got a $, typed in "sudo", got # (which I understood meant you are rooted). While reading alot mentioning using SuperUser for various things, I remembered it use to be on phone but wasn't anymore (had alot of stuff/programs get deleted once when friend borrowed phone) so I went to my previous installed apps in Play & reinstalled it (don't think that has ANY relevance to issue, but mentioning it just incase ). After reading some more I decided to try something in Terminal Emulator, but now when I open it & type "sudo" I get "sudo: not found". I also tried "su" but get same "su: not found"!!! I even tried uninstalling superuser (since was ONLY thing I had done since it working earlier) and I restarted phone too, but still get "not found" message. I have NO idea why or what the problem is. Any help would be really appreciated!
Thank you VERY much!!!
P. S. to MODERATORS: I wasn't sure if this should go here, in the Triumph SubForum, or somewhere else. If it would be better somewhere else, I am very sorry but either let me know to move it or you can move it for me. Thanks

[Q] A little help please, MB300 (backflip)

ok, so I've combed the internet, after work, for days, trying to find an answer to my problem. My problem? I recieved a backflip from att. I like the phone. i previously had an HTC excalibur, which i loved, and had internet sharing, contact synching, and cool software on. Clearly the MB300 can do all this and more, and i'm google fan, and big open source fan, so i am excited about using android.
I was TOTALLY offended to discover my phone had yahoo and att bull**** everywhere that is difficult to remove. Anyway, i updated to 2.1 (eclair) and rooted my phone using rageagainstthecage. here is where my problem evolves.
My phone is rooted after rage against the cage (using # in connectbot). but, after a restart, its back to $. damn. if i redo the ragecage business, i can get the # again, but only until my next boot. fix?
the more pressing matter, is that it is an utter pain to code on the phone itself. when i connect via adb, i can't seem to run adb shell as root. Is it possible to run adb shell as super?
even when i have a # in connect bot, I get an error when i type su? cannot link executable etc...
super use runs, but obviously not well since it doesn't confirm when i su in connectbot.....tried to update in recovery mode, but the zip isn't listed.....why must this be difficult....i blame att.
am i not really root?
i would have tried visionary, but it seems to have dissapeared off the internet.
i am trying to install jrods rom, but i can't get su, even though i successfuly did the ragecage business....
help?
i really want to get this att crap off my phone. (the phone defaults to google, which i appreciate, but i really need to destroy the att stuff)
thanks,
S.

[Q] Kyocera Milano, unable to root after OTA

I initially bricked my phone when I took an OTA update by accident while the phone was rooted. When I got the new phone I decided to let it update first and then try to root it but now the Gingerbreak/ZergRush method doesn't seem to work. It never reports that it failed but doesn't say success either, just the "Blue Hellions" thing. The script fails at the "adb remount" saying that the operation isn't permitted.
I've tried a few other methods but have had zero luck with them but most of them used ZR so I didn't expect a lot.
Since they don't seem to have a recovery image for this phone, there's not a lot I can do.
I'll take any ideas and upload logcat, etc.to help out (if I can...it seems to be about 100k which was double the allowed size for the last forum I asked this on)
Any and all help appreciated.

I just got my phone from Ting a couple weeks ago and rooted it yesterday.
Unfortunately I can't directly post Outside links (Not at 10 posts yet, and have no idea what else to post about other than this at the moment, which requires a link (For Credit Due Purposes) and I know it will be helpful to people that were as desperate as me for something that was starting to seem rather impossible and no one was paying that much attention to it.), but this is important enough that I'll try to just chop it up - You'll just have to put it back together to go to that site.
This works:
androidforums
.com/milano-all-things
-root/709963-no
-pc-root-method
.html
Not sure why the guide says "Enable usb debugging in Settings, Applications, Development" since you never use the PC, I enabled it anyway, and also enabled to install third party apps, or else Poot won't install, not sure why that isn't on the guide. (Maybe they got mixed up?)
A few things you might want to know:
After hours I finally found the solution. But the terminal still doesn't work for uninstalling ("pm uninstall com.google.android.books.apk" = Failure), you have to do everything though your phone (I'm using the app "RootAppDelete"). The phone roots itself with a third party app called "Poot" using libraries from "Ministro 2"
Before doing this you're gonna need something like 25MBs of storage or so (Can delete everything afterwards with the exception of SuperUser (Can't delete that) to get the space back (Also, you need a app to actually use root actions). - The "Ministro 2" packages are huge for this phone's tiny internal storage! 11MB around)
Make sure to install anything small first and anything big right before the phone gets over 15MB full, because at that time you can't install anything else, with low memory errors.
Another thing that might have helped me when I did this is - back when I couldn't root I made all apps default install to the phone with the android sdk platform-tools (I didn't want to risk anything so I moved Poot, Ministro 2 and SuperUser back to the phone before running Poot. since they default installed to the SD)
"adb shell"
"pm SetInstallLocation 2"
Know its been said elsewhere, but this works with the Milano. Wanted to say that in case you needed the space to use Poot.
And the last problem is after I did all this, now my headphone jack wants to think it has headphones plugged in all the time, If I move the phone around it starts playing on the phone's speaker. It seems like something is lose. Not sure if that was caused by the root (since it wasn't doing it before, and I've never used the headphone jack before) or because there was lose hardware, not sure. Still working on a solution to that, which I found
something similar here, almost looks like a common problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817872
I would put my proof of doing this have a screen shot of root checker, but alas its an outside link. Understand though.
And as I've read a million times before this, here's a disclaimer: I'm not responsible and use at your own risk.

[Q] failing to root

I'm trying to root my tf700, and although I have Unknown Sources checked, and the USB debugging checked, I still get the error that it needs to be turned on. And then I get the daemon is not running message. Is there another way to root my Infinity?
Also, my Build is 9.4.5.21, so I'm thinking of nvflash. The problem is that although I've unlocked the bootloader, I still see I have a firmware update pending. I'm afraid to install the upgrade, lest it moves me to the later build, and thus prevents me from using nvflash.
Can anyone offer some help on my inability to root? And advice on the firmware/nvflash situation? Thanks...
Which root process are you trying to use?
1click root or debugfs?

Sometimes switching usb plugs on the PC works.
I know a lot of folks in the forum have said that trying on a different PC also works.
Are you working with Win7 or XP or something different?
It says Daemon isn't running. And then next screen it says Rooting failed. System partition was not found
I'm using Windows 7.
Please excuse the stupid question.. but should the tablet be on a certain screen while this is going on? Or should it be off?

Hmmm,
The tab should be on and connected as MTP I believe.
Is the tablet seen when clicking on the computer icon or in explorer?
Also check device manager to see if the tab shows up in there.
If the tab is plugged into a front USB (if using a Desktop PC) try a port on the back if available.
Oops edit!
Did you try downloading and installing the PCSuite from the Asus website?
Thats OK said:

I did the SDK install.... no difference. It is showing up on the PC. But I have not downloaded the PCSuite from Asus, since I've been afraid of going there, and getting tied up with the Sync issue. I had read that if I had the sync on, they can track the tablet along with reading the info, and even doing some extreme things if they felt I deserved it. I didn't know if I was supposed to register it before I unlocked it. or what. The odd thing is that I have unlocked it successfully.
i've also moved the usb connector to different ports but with the same result. I do notice, that now, it says after saying daemon is not running, that daemon started successfully. But then, it says Rooting Failed.... System Partition could not be found.
Is it possible to install nvFlash on an unlocked device, but one that is not rooted?
Lemme see here...
Ur right clicking the .bat file then running as admin then?
http://androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/
...on the mobi blog it just says to be unlocked and have nerves of steel.
I had a nightmare getting the Win 7 drivers to install.
I eventually gave up and used Linux...
Nerves of steel is right. I'm about to try the procedure on another computer. Hmmmm. Is the sync app from Asus relatively safe to use? someone said it worked for them after they installed it.
If I'm sweatin' it now,... can you imagine how I'm a tremblin' with the nvFlash install ahead of me?
My ol' gTablet never gave me this much stress. :highfive:

Man I know...I was always afraid to do anything at first.
I was pretty afraid of a 500 dollar lesson gone wrong...then one day I said "what the hell man up"
So here I am today a satisfied customer!
I have PC Suite installed, I had registered and unlocked so Big brother Asus had my number from the beginning.
Seems like PC Suite is the only way in certain cases.

Well, it did not work on the second computer... And now, what I get is, daemon does start, and the cursor moves to a new line, and just blinks back at me ... ouch. Didn't I just feel silly waiting for 30 minutes, and nothing happened? Reminded me of the cat that just sits and watches the curtains move. Ah well. So, I am unlocked, but also unrooted. Does anyone happen to know if the one click app works with our Infinity? I getting desperate enough to pay. :crying:

Coming from the ground up
I'm Rooted!
Whew!... Thanks to all who responded and pointed me in the right direction. It was not pretty. I encountered a number of errors. I'll list them below, in case anyone else is having the same problem/s I had.
1. After you choose "1" from the debugfs menu, it ends up saying "Rooting failed. System partition was not found." Check to see if the device is being seen. How you do this is go to the same directory you unzipped the files you downloaded, and start a command line from this directory. The question was how? Press the Shift key, while right clicking on the directory where adb.exe is, and you will get a window with a prompt. This is a very useful window. type "adb devices", and you should see some datafline" and then a code number followed by "device". Naturally, mine was not there. If this is not there, type " adb kill-server" Then "adb device", and hopefully, if the stars align correctly. You will see your device there with it's code. If not, then you have to check the device manager, and check the drivers. To do this... Go to the start box in lower left of window bar, and type "device manager". The file will be listed, click on it. and you should see your device listed. I found it twice.. once by itself using, and again under Portable Devices. I clicked on these, and updated the drivers to the ones in the same directory with the files you unzipped. Hopefully that will work. If it doesn't you might have to uninstall them, and reinstall them.
2. After all that, you still might not get past option 1 in the menu. Possible error, "more than one device found". So, you have to check if anything else is interfering. [I'm not sure if this was the culprit but as soon as I removed my Zunes, I was good to go].
3. And then option 1 gets a little further along and goes off to never never land. So... I moved to option 2, Manual entry of the partition. It warns you to not go into this section if you are not sure. Naturally, I shook off my cold sweat and plunged ahead. The address I used, from another post was "/dev/block/mmcblk0p1", and that seemed to work.
4. Then.... the app got stuck trying to reboot the device. You can check if it is seeing the tablet by the "adb devices" check. If is not, you have to fiddle with the drivers again.
5. Finally, after a number of tries, and a lot of colorful venting... it went through... and I was rooted.
Whew! It was ugly... But finally. :fingers-crossed:
I relate my story to encourage anyone who might be discouraged by the roadblocks. Hang in there, and as they say... "Never Give Up. Never Surrender!"
Now to tackle installing nvFlash. I have my blankie all ready.
AWESOME!
Way to go slugger!
So was another media device "Zunes" plugged up in another port?
You have done well!
It's pretty fulfilling to wind thru all this and come out with a desired result.
Thanx for the low down.
It will mean a lot to others having trouble.
Thumbs raised kiddo!
nvFlash adventures...
Again, thanks to the wonderful support from the wonderful folks here.:highfive:
Just to end on an even higher note, I wanted to add that I was able to install nvFlash, and generate my "Resurrection Files". I don't know if this is allowed on this forum to include a link, but I followed this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3ypzUaKxvo&feature=colike
which seemed to anticipate some of the very same roadblocks I encountered. So, now, I can look about that "firmware update" notification that keeps flashing in my bar.
My Infinity adventure continues...

[Q] Rooting issue?

So I'm sort of (completely) a noob, and I really know next to nothing about any of this. Just bear that in mind.
I went to root the other day. I downloaded a compressed zip file containing the necessary files to root the Atrix 2 that I found somewhere on the XDA website.
I had my Atrix 2 plugged in, as a camera (PTP), with the USB cable that came with the phone, on all the proper settings, with debugging enabled, and all that good stuff. I am 100% sure that I had it on the correct settings.
I decompressed the file to Desktop, and ran the adb.exe file inside. It looked like it worked because a little window popped up and a bunch of text scrolled through. Then I ran the ROOT.bat file. A window opened that said something along the lines of "dameon not running. starting it now" followed by "dameon started successfully", which, I'm told, is normal. The only issue is that after that, nothing happens. I've waited an hour, even though it shouldn't take nearly that long, and nothing more happens. No more text appears, my phone doesn't restart, nothing.
My friend, who knows a lot more than I do and really knows what he's doing, has sort of been helping me with this. I explained to him step-by-step what I was doing, and he couldn't find a flaw.
I looked briefly online, but I'm not good at finding stuff like this.
Any solutions?
Thanks for your time!
Your PC didn't recognize your phone as an adb device
Use this software to install adb driver
http://adbdriver.com/upload/AdbDriverInstaller.exe
+1 on what @PhoenixNghi said, plus connect your phone as a mass storage device.

Portable ADB ALL [ANDROID] devices

Have you ever needed to use ADB at a work PC or a location you could not "install" applications?
Unzip the attached file and click the RunMe.bat
I have tested this pulling logs, pushing/pulling files, flashing recovery, roms, and anything else I could think of.
I tested it on the M8 stock rom 5.0.2 but this is a generic file so it should be fine on most if not all android devices.
The idea came when I was at work and looking for a solution for a problem I had. I could not install anything on my work PC, so this came in handy, the only problem is that it was outdated, or seemed outdated for my needs.
find the zip file here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347791558
This topic has been covered but is very outdated. I only found information from 2011 and 2013. The included information has since been updated by Google. I found it and included it, re-zipped it and now it is here for you to enjoy.
Thanks

I know this is totally off topic, I'll report myself for it later....
So, I installed the zip file onto my work PC, a DELL Inspiron laptop running Windows 7 professional (I really cannot get too much more info about it now) sorry. My nooby butt just went and downloaded the file not checking the MD5 :crying: Totally a dumb thing a NOOBY would do. It started to get late & I had to get ready to go to work. I know I had the command prompt screen (Black box) running and I then left the computer. 8 hr's later I come home from work and the computer is locked as normal, I to proceed entering Ctrl+Alt+Delete combination as usual & NOTHING (panic setting in)!! I was concerned since it was frozen from something I done, also I didn't want to loose all the work I gathered that night prior (is the very least of my worries now)... I took out the battery to reset the computer, again like a dummy, I started Windows normally ignoring the other "safe mode, etc" options. I click on windows Chrome, NOTHING! Not even an option to open the program/app. Okay, I'm really panicking now WTH did I do??? I knew I did something wrong, so I reset the computer by battery again, put it in "Safe Mode" which did absolutely nothing as I couldn't "open desktop gadgets in safe mode". Now, I restarted the computer from the start menu... Started up completely fine, I have access to everything EXCEPT Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc. anything that is browser related has the administrator shield on the icon. However, I still cannot even click on the icon to run as an administrator even if I had the password!?!?
Is there any possible hope to uninstall that file and just maybe it'll go back to normal??? I cannot re-install Chrome or Internet Explorer due to the darn administrator rights!!!
I've searched to the ends of the earth since last night trying to find a solution, this is my last ditch effort resort for any possible suggestions to point me in the right direction. Luckily my friend was kind enough to lend me his laptop and my phone is in proper working order:angel: If I tell my IT guy what happened, I'll be in huge trouble, going on the 2nd laptop destroyed, 1st time really wasn't my fault, just saying so u don't think I'm continuously reckless.
Any help as always is greatly appreciated! Hoping someone has had this happen maybe:fingers-crossed: and just a slight point in the right direction (link, website, specific thread on forum) would b awesome?? I can tell you that it's not related to the files because I use them on my work PC all the time. I am working 10 hours days, 6 days a week. So the only time I can do anything out of the ordinary on my phone, it has to be at work.
That being said, have you tried system restore? I'm not sure if that requires admin rights, it might. On another note, tell the IT guy your internet explorer just stopped working, they love that. Because seriously, it's unrelated. The most he will do is uninstall and reinstall IE/Chrome. If that doesn't fix it, a system restore should. If that still does not, there is something off with the settings for internet access (I've seen that before). But if you are saying there is a shield/lock over an icon, that's new to me.
Also, I can install chrome at my work. It usually does not require admin rights, that and Firefox. There are also many portable browsers you can download from another PC and copy the zip file to the laptop, and run the app. Just search portable browser. At least this will help determine if the browsers installed got locked or if there is a network setting being blocked.
Let me know how it goes. This IS a bit off topic, but let's figure out what's wrong publicly so the mods can see there is nothing wrong with the zip I posted and then we can have our posts removed.

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it.
I'm glad to hear that it's not the file bc I cannot uninstall that regardless. We do have crazy blocks on all the computers at my work. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the sensitive information we have (a drug tx center so everyone's personal info is in our database). We can't even update the time on our computers, I have no clue why. I asked him once, he said something about giving that permission would open up another way to bypass security (I can't remember exactly).
This is my laptop, I never even bother bringing into work because I work so much from home. For example my login at the office has updated twice when at home it's still my old login password. The computer is physically in bad shape (it's been used & abused for sure) I'd prefer not to the bring it in for him to see so I plan on waiting to Friday night (IF ALL ELSE FAILS) and txtg him saying I absolutely need to work & see if he will do troubleshoot remote access! I hope that doesn't sound too horrible :-/
As I was typing this I just received an email to restart all workstations due to updates/ changes to the server done this weekend... Hmmmm it could totally be bc of this!!!!! Fingers crossed. I may just have to bring it in let it connect to the local server reset it, and bam good to go If not due to this I can almost guarantee it's the internet settings that I don't have access to!! But the portable browser should work...
I will still try all of your suggestions once I get home this afternoon and report back to you ASAP!!
Luckily I have my friends laptop to borrow & Dell had some good deals on laptops last night so I ordered a really nice one since I really need a personal computer again. Which I will also get an expense check for (bonus)!! But, won't arrive until 3/16. Until then I do have access to extra pc's here I could always swap it out, but I don't want to be scrutinized or punished for being sneaky, it's really not my character...
Again, I appreciate your input. Also, totally agreed on the "off-topic resolution" first and then delete our posts...
Thanks Again!
Yeah, I cannot get through the security on it.
When I look at the properties or try to repair Chrome or IE, it has an incorrect path, totally crazy looking.
\\localhost\C$\os(c\Users\mludford.....
I'm currently downloading a zip for a standalone browser. Hopefully that'll work...
This thread in general is totally crazy too, it looks like I replied like 3 or 4 times, I DID NOT :/ I tried twice & it told me that I didn't have access to the post, with a grey button over my original post you replied to, saying "Spoiler"!?! Very strange....

Click to collapse
Needless to say it's not the settings or anything with the computer as I took it into work for it to "register" & update to the network settings... Nothing! So, I'm trying the above to see if I can't get around it. Thanks Again
