bad case for x920d malware? by Pdair company - HTC Butterfly

I recently purchased a case from PDair and within a couple minutes to 20 minutes my phone bricked (black screen no buttons working). My phone has been fine the past two weeks running my current rom with no change in app installs. I'm posting this so other people on this site don't buy this case and have problems. Below is a video I am sending to the company
you have to download it to watch it(16min), it is in .mp4 format and is too large for youtube and my video editing skills well... stink
had to remove link bc of download traffic

I have just received a hoda case from a separate company(pcglobal) the case is great and this case is made in Taiwan not Hong Kong.

Phone bricked because of case

same problem with that case

It is so strange to hear that the case could brick the phone.
But, no thing is impossible Some reasons we could think about:
- The case is to tight that press hard buttons all time?!?
- Magnification part of the case (button, clip...) are so strong or in the not appropriate place that could damage some sensors of the phone?!?
Could you give the detail information about the Pdair case that you have had? What kind? For which series? (DNA / J Butterfly / Butterfly)

Hmmm, bricking meens de software is f***d up, so i dont think its possible just by pressing all the buttons, it might be defective, but not bricked i think, of coarse the result is more or less the same.

[Q] UK owners Attention

do you have any of these problems?
Q1:Bottom removable cover doesnt fit right- leaves a gap, makes noise when pressed.
Q2:Large >1mm gap between the glass of the screen and metal. Not like in reviews, official photos.
what about the phone getting uncomfortably hot?
im trying to isolate the problem, which batch, which countries
soo far germany and singapore had big problems
Mines spot on.
Simfree handset. No problems here in the Brum area.

I disagree as these problems effect everyone and are both software related and should both be fixable when we can build custom roms

orange uk fine. I think the UK batch are all good build quality.
@Edward Lowy
not if you can accept them and taking the risk
@ben_pyett
the wifi cant be software, of course you can change a little bit the sensitivity, the bad antenna placement and cover will still remain

That's my point - they don't seem to affect everyone. Both issues affected me but clearly that is not everybodys findings.
There are well reported software issues with the buttons, basically the phone detects the background ambient light levels and decides whether our not to light up the buttons
Sometimes in a dark room the presence of a bright light source such as a window or a bright Tv stop them from lighting
unfortunately there us nothing we can do.
Although considering that the buttons don't change positions I always know where they are and which one is which so I can't see what the real problem is?
with regards the wi fi issue, there is another thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051674
Where someone has posted a possible software fix, although you need S-off in order to apply it.
I suffer from both of these problems.
But, Fortunately I don't hold the phone in landscape so the wi fi issue doesn't bother me, and I know where the buttons are so don't need them to be lit

I shared this on the Desire S Owners Poll thread and I am sure some of you might have seen it but here is my device I received this past Tuesday via FedEx from Singapore(It is an Indian device according to the IMEI info. HTC UK told me this btw.) Major problems with the battery cover. We need to make HTC be aware of these issues.
can you not just ask for a new one under warranty?
I'm in the UK and have had my DS 3 full days perfect no floors no wi-fi issue in landscape mode and set up with current OS and skinned.
Though day 4 bottom corners lifting by Home and Search keys and also have the smallest gap between unibody and screen near volume rocker and touch keys. The gap is enough to see back light coming through in the dark/dusk.
Hope this helps, i have a brand new (not refurbished) replacement coming first thing tomorrow will report on that with any news or similar issues.
Any of you sim free owners have the UMA signal boost app on the Stock shipped ROM 2.3.3 just interested?

Thanks guys was looking at stock rom to remove 'bloatware' but the app on the orange rom is handy think i will just use launcher pro to hide unwanted apps rather than install stock ROM.
Just waiting on the courier for my replacement handset fingers crossed no faults with this one.
Ok so brand new replacement handset and i still have these issues the bottom right corner is already showing that it's raised in comparison to the bottom left corner and there is still a visible gap on the left of the screen can see the charge port through this and light still shining through in the right light.
Looks like bad quality control from HTC will be contacting orange in a mo as i'm still in my cooling off period. I am really disappointed Android OS is great for the customisation but this handset seem's to have been rushed in the build quality.
Hope this helps.
my device has a perfect screen
so i think that it is just in some locations...or maybe the batch that they currently have at your buyer is defective

tested one at my local o2 store, no problem, or maybe because it has the security stuff on it so i didnt get a good feel.. i ended up getting a sgs 2 yesterday though
Just read the above posts and now concern that my phone is one of those bad batch (O2 UK).
Firstly there is a gap at the top of the screen. (above the htc logo) big enough to stick the edge of a paper.
Second, there is light leakage on both the bottom corner (home and search key) only viewable when looking at a certain angle.
Third, is the bottom of the screen and the metal part meant to be even? As my bottom screen is more raised.
Finally, is all of the above problems are covered by the 12 month warranty and in which case I can ask for a replacement from O2?
Thanks in advance.

Lost volume rocker

My volume rocker has been loose for afew months now and the other day it got lost somewhere in London so I'd like to know where the cheapest replacement is in the UK.
I'd also like to know how easy it is to replace the part.
Thanks ;D.
Same problem here lmao and from uk aswell

Same problem you gotta take the whole shell apart I hear to replace it seen em for sale somewhere pain in the bum to do apparently? I just got a program to change sound anwyay from drop down so all good and a bit more control
I had the same problem...
I took a small block of aluminium, some abrasive paper and formed with it an appropriate shape and put some black foil over it and voila a new volume rocker.
I attached a photo, where you can see it.
On the photo i looks maybe a little bit terrible, but in real it looks very good
bought a new DHD in september,,, everything was OK but VOL - button stopped working all of a sudden,,
lucky for me , the vol + is working,, to adjust sound , i use s/w , to get in bootloader etc, i have to use adb commands,,,!
i personall believe the DHD suffers from poor hardware QA, buttons esp
Hi Guys!
I´ve taken mine apart for different reasons. Actually it aint all that difficult.
There´s an instructive video on Youtube. Can´t post link right now.
As for the rocker you can get it here:
http://www.htcrepairparts.com/htc-desire-hd-c-129_694.html?language=en
I bought from these guys and was satisfied. Took about a fortnight to arrive in Greenland from Hong Kong. Dunno about the price though.
I´ve heard this was expensive, not that i´m complaining.
Apart from the video it´s important to have decent lighting and a brush to remove dust. Trust me - there´s gonna be a lot of dust/dirt. For me the difficult part was getting the flash cover/gps antenna back again without breaking anything.
Regards
ELO

Chipping on the side

Hi
I had the HTC One S - BLACK - for 4 days and it is already chipping.
I thought this finish was meant to be stronger than conventional metal finish and yet even with all the care in the world it has chipped already.
Has anybody else experienced this?
What has been HTC response?
I bought the phone from Ebay - so i can not return it to a shop directly.
Thanks

Have you dropped/damaged a phone?

Just curious if anyone dropped or damaged a phone before. Is it possible that anyone never broke a phone? I hear people say they don't buy insurance because they're always careful. Are you one those mystical people?

I have never broken a phone by dropping it. Somehow I have drove over 2 of my phones and wrecked them but past that I have been very fortunate I guess
Pin it to Win it.
Had to replace one as a result of dropping it. My newest replacement was due to a fail digitizer.
I ive dropped my SGS many times. So many people rip on samsung for using plastic build materials but it is really durable.

I was very happy with my jailbroken i-phone 3gs. I thought it was protected by the sleek looking CaseCrown surround. However, after dropping it while on the treadmill, stepping on it while on the treadmill, and seeing the result shoot backward and hit the wall, I realized that CaseCrown was no Otterbox. Broken case, broken on/off switch, and speaker that rattled. Anyway, my hands are not as steady as they once were, so I was unable to make the repair myself. I sent it off to a third-party vendor, and it was returned with a new case, but the volume controls did not work and neither did the antenna. After arguing back and forth, (the vendor insisted that my jailbreak was responsible even though it has worked just fine for two years) they tried to fix it again. In the meantime, I got fed up wit the wait and opted to move to the 'droid side. Now I have a shiny new Galaxy Note (i 717 AT&T with stock ICS). Never looking back -- I love the note! (not rooted yet -- I am still reading the various posts about it. I want to be sure I know what I am doing, and how to recover, before I mess with it.)
I dropped my old flip phone(s) repeatedly but it never really broke, just got some wear and tear.
Dropped my first Android a few times, but my case saved it.
So for now, I've been really careful with my phones.

My old vibrant took a 7 ft face first fall onto a concrete warehouse floor. Not a scratch, thanks to otterbox. My GS2 has been dropped one or twice, but also no harm done. I'm confident that without proper cases, that vibrant would be broken, instead of being used by my son.
I use electronic devices carefully specially mobile phones, i dropped my Nokia 5800 once and its case cracked.

I don't usually drop my phone, but I have a good friend who quite regularly drops her galaxy s2 xD i think both cameras are dying now.
my first phone was a lg 4400 (it didnt even have a camera),which my daughter dropped in the toilet. thankfully the water was clean! i took it apart to let it dry for a few days, put it back together and my wife used it for 6 months before it died. been very lucky/carefull with all my other phones.
my phone is BB 8700, and I don't care about that
Dropped a phone, I often do this. Many times battery even get out of my phone when dropped.
I have had Motorola phones for the past 2 years, I dropped my old Droid 2 from a 10 foot ladder, and all it got was a slight scratch on the raised bezel bottom left of the screen. made a switch to the nexus a while back have dropped it a few times with only a screen protector on and it hasn't acquired any noticeable damage cept for a small scratch on the battery cover.

Might affect the waterproof feature. Return it and get a magnetic charger.

Easy - if it's a user-caused physical damage, most companies will refuse any returns and will only offer a repair . With the flap torn off or deformed to the point it can't close anymore, the company can NEVER be sure whether it was due to manufacturing defect OR because the user applied too much force when opening it, so for the company it's just safer to assume that it was a user-caused physical damage.

What can you do? Basically, 2 things. Either rip the flap off if you don't NEED waterproof feature and continue using the microUSB cable for charging OR put a new flap and use a different charging cable, not microUSB but the one with magnet which can attach to the side "port" with exposed "pins", this way you will NEVER have to open the flap for charging. Or! Or find a different phone which can be both waterproof AND has wireless charging, these do exist, Samsung makes one It will have plastic body but hey, if your phone is a work tool and NOT just a toy for impressing your simple-minded "friends" with - plastic body is actually the better choice

They can assume what they want. I'd expect a flap to last more than 4 weeks and, personally, I'd pursue it and see what they say rather than just assuming.
Well, the problem is, that I already exchanged the flap with a new one because the old one just came off after 3 days of usage. Even then they refused as it is a damage which they thought was caused by mishandling the phone. I really care bout my things and handle them correctly, especially if its such a fragile device like the Z3 is. The first thing I did when I got it is drive to the city and buy an Adore June Soft case and I have no scratches or anything until now(no screen protector but i am thinking of that). So it wasn't my fault that it came off once in my eyes. It's just that it seems that there is a "left over" from the old flap inside the phone which means the new one doesn't fit correctly, sometimes it does sometimes it does not.
What shall I do if they just refuse it..
This is really frustrating bought a new one and even a NEEDLE thin tweezer to dig the bit inside the phone out. No way to get it out or anything near by that. Tried to put the new one in and guess what? It got stuck a bit so I had to turn it around and it snapped off! Now I have two of those **** things in side there. What to do? Send it to Sony? How much does that cost..?
Dude, just send it to Sony before you make even more scratches around the flap area with your tools. Or find a local smartphone repair shop (which can fix all smartphone models), they should be able to properly attach it for much cheaper price than Sony might charge you.
And like I mentioned before - consider using a cable which attaches to side "port" with magnet (it's called "Magnector" or whatever), OR switch to a different phone model from different manufacturer which doesn't require removing any flaps for charging. Then wait for brain-dead Sony "engineers" to release a proper carrier-free model with built-in wireless charging (like they did for Verizon), hopefully all of Z4 models will have that...
