Chipping on the side - HTC One S

Hi
I had the HTC One S - BLACK - for 4 days and it is already chipping.
I thought this finish was meant to be stronger than conventional metal finish and yet even with all the care in the world it has chipped already.
Has anybody else experienced this?
What has been HTC response?
I bought the phone from Ebay - so i can not return it to a shop directly.
Thanks
Massi

Replacement Phone Housing

I wonder if anyone knows where to buy a replacement phone housing for the Desire HD. I have dropped my Desire HD by accident and now the shell is badly dented and scratched. Brought the phone back to HTC and they said it would cost $150 just to replace it as the warranty does not cover user faults.
Check the box your phone came in.
If it says 'HTC Desire HD' on the box, you can get a free replacement at any phone shop that has one in stock until midnight tonight 13th October.

why cant you replace the battery

God....you lot are not being helpful now are you?
to the op, I believe your only chance is to wait a couple of weeks and I am sure ebay will soon be filled with replacement covers and housings.
Until then your best option is to buy a case to cover it up.

Firstly, good effort for resurrecting a pretty dead thread.
Secondly, realise that the guy is claiming he had a DHD before anyone else had one.
Thirdly, he claims the battery cannot be replaced - only on the DHD it can be (and if you take the cover off, it literally falls out!)
So while we would like to help the guy, he's not exactly provided believable evidence.

Why would anyone lie about something like that?
It is more likely the indentation is so bad the battery simply wont come out. Also I believe there are a select few who get to test devices long before they hit the shelves, I dont think he/she is one however I do believe it may be a test device.
I am also interested to know this. Nothing on ebay yet. Anyone know a retailer likely to sell housings? Unless anyone wants to swap a black for a brown?
Not sure why everyone here so adamant the op is lying... it's not like it's a big deal.
Mobile phones are often finished months in advance of a public release for testing, PR purposes, sales purposes (you don't think a mobile network gets to see and play with a device before deciding to stock it?) etc etc
I had the very first colour mobile about almost a year before it was available to the public and even months before anybody knew it existed. Why? I was working on developing a marketing campaign for it. It was one of only two in existence and it was buggy as hell....
Also he may not of realised that the battery compartment is separate from the sim card and not noticed it...
Btw - I want to know about a new housing too... this phone is so smooth it gives the expression dropping calls a whole new meaning....

Not to let this drag on or anything - of course there are versions and prototypes and ready for market versions of the phone, but would they be handing out a model of this hotly anticipated phone to someone who doesn't realise there's a battery compartment (which is a different colour to the rest of the casing, no less)? I think not.
Housings will probably take a while to filter down, the more obvious 'immediate' accessories like micro USB cables and docks are being churned out at 1000 a minute at the moment.
Well People , i got my Stock from Vodafone Australia not a joke either .

[Q] Broken LCD Glass :(

Anyone know where I can get a replacement LCD glass for my Desire HD
I believe it's just the glass as the screen seems to still work.
If there's a place in or around London that can replace it for me even better, if not anyone know how difficult it is to replace.
I've noticed a few places on Ebay (China/HK) selling digitizers and complete LCD's but ideally I want somewhere in the UK.
thanks
Elliot
Hi,
I went through a similar experience less than 2 weeks ago, you can even see images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834335
I rang around several places, none could commit to using GENUINE HTC parts. The only people I found were: www.htcrepairs.co.uk/ - and they even offer a walk in service whereas I found most others did not.
Unfortunately they don't have the parts I require in stock, maybe you can try them.
At the moment, they're the only people I've found in the London area that I'd be willing to give my phone in to...
Did you have any luck with finding anyone else?
Maybe contacting HTC? They can probably repair it for you but it can be pretty expensive though.
Maybe you got some pics?
You could try, as said above, get the glass/screen from eBay.
Repaired my SE K800i with it, where the glass could easily be removed and the new one could be installed within 5minutes.
Don't know how the HTC will disassemble though.
I'm going to try this place on the way home from work: http://www.spsmobile.co.uk I'll let you know how they go. They've got the parts and will charge me £60 for either the lcd or digitzer including fitting.
Here's some pictures. I think they'll get away with just fixing the glass, although it looks bad the lcd still seems to work ok.
Can anyone recommend a case surround?

How did it go?
Did they fix it whilst you wait, or retain the device to work on for a day or two?
More importantly, are they using genuine HTC parts ?
They fix while you wait, they're near Staples Corner (which is a bit of a walk from the tube at Brent Cross).
I need to go back tonight as they messed up and thought I had a Desire and not a HD, they're hoping to get the HD part in today, they're charging me the Desire price.
According to their website they use official parts, but who knows.
Warranty
* We give 3 months warranty on every repair excluding liquid / water damage and physical damage
* Every warranty handset is security sealed. Tampering with the security seal will void the warranty LCD / SCREEN warranty. We fit original screens only and they are security labeled
* Every handset is tested for 24 hours and comes with engineers report
I plan to visit these SPS guys tonight. Lets hope they manage to fix my phone.
I'm hoping to wait around so I can ensure genuine parts are used...
SPS didn't manage to get a Desire HD digitizer for me, they've got 1 on order. They're a little difficult to find (at least they were in the dark) they're behind Staples industrial state, in room 207, small little office. They seemed ok though they.

Abolutely disgusting/poor customer service and general attitute towards their customers... though the main thing is my Legend is all well again !

[Q] Stuck/dead pixels - common Sensation issue?

Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. A quick "thanks" to everyone who has posted in the sensation forum til now - there's a huge amount of helpful stuff in here, especially for an android noob such as myself.
In short, made the switch from Blackberry to Android a month ago, going for the Sensation. The first Sensation I ordered from Amazon had a "stuck" pixel (white) straight out the box. Returned it for a new one, which has been great until this weekend when I discovered another stuck pixel (red this time). As someone who tends to have quite dark homescreen/backgrounds, this isn't really something I can live with.
So I'm about to return it to Amazon once again, but this time I'm wavering as to whether to simply request a replacement rather than a refund, simply because 2 stuck pixels on separate brand new phones in less than a month is pretty catastrophic. Is anyone aware of this being a common issue on the Sensation? If so, I may have to look elsewhere - I'd budgeted for my new phone to last me a good 18 months or so, and at the moment they can't last more than three weeks!
Thanks in advance for all advice/help
Slightly OT but how do you find Amazon when it comes to returns, are they at all difficult to deal with? I'll probably be ordering my next phone from them.
BTW, welcome!
I got a blue stuck dead pixel on the left top part of the screen.
I'm also getting a replacement
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
u do no u can get an app on android the MAY fixstuck pixels, search dead pixel or pixel fix
mine also got a white point - don´t know if it was out of box or came just 3 days after use.
thought it was dirt, because I also could see it with screen of - but now I know it was a dead pixel.
Returned it to the shop and tomorrow I get my new one from amazon.
hopefully the new one will be allright, because the phone is great!
I have them if the phone is cold, which in this weather is often. Especially when I was in London today..
But they shortly go. It tends to be in top left corner above status bar..
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
gavin - yeah, I tried using Pixel Fixer. No joy unfortunately.
seagull - they're excellent to be honest, for high-value goods like phones they send a courier to pick it up(!) and the refund hits your account two days later. (Haven't ordered a replacement so far - the price of the sensation keeps dropping on Amazon UK, so I just ask for a refund, buy a new one and pocket the difference. Has dropped £35 since I bought it 3 weeks ago!)
Cheers all, sounds like a relatively common if not chronic problem. Fingers crossed it'll be third time lucky for me, I was just starting to get to grips with it. Hopefully the rest of my posts in here will be asking for help rooting etc rather than fixing hardware problems!
Definitely bring it back so
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
My first 2 (original, then first replacement) had this. My current unit does not. The dead pixels were one of the main reasons I was sending them in for replacements.
Both your phones had this? I've never had an issue with mine. That's damn unlucky
got today my new one: this time not only one dead pixel, they are nearly all over mixed with dust. called amazon and get it replaced again...this sucks

Threads like this are so senseless all you will achieve is to accumulate all users that have the problem. And yet the percentage of screens with dead pixels has to be really low. As with all LCD screens there will be ones with dead pixels. There its no reason for the sensation's LCD screen to have more dead pixels than others.

HTC Sensation Screen replacement

Hey guys, New to the HTC sensation threads (its my Girlfriends phone)
Got her this phone about 6 months ago - 1 week after having it she dropped it and broke the digitizer anyway i got that fixed at my local phone shop with aftermarket digitizer - it worked well but you could tell it was not genuine.
anyway the other week i dropped it and broke the lcd screen yet the digitizer is fine and the phone is still 100% useable - except the display looks awful.
Does anyone know if this is an easy fix, is it worth fixing myself or taking it to the phone shop - Im embarrassed to go back and explain how it has broke again lol.... But i need to get it fixed, Im so close to having my wang removed by my girlfriend.
I was wondering whether or not HTC themselves would repair it ? and maybe replace the digitizer too, I dont mind paying the extra £££ for genuine parts and to be fixed by genuine HTC repairmen..
Any ideas how i can get out this mess ??
sorry for the long post.
Thanks
Off course HTC will repair it, but it'll take longer and probably charge you a lot more than what you can it fixed for.

Haha, no i did not.. But as soon as i get it fixed im gunna invest in a bulletproof / bombproof carbon kevlar box and keep it locked inside it !!!
Was it bought through a carrier or sim free? Could always take it to your carrier and see what they suggest, although they're not normally the cheapest, but at least it should get done properly.
Yeah i got it through vodafone, I think i will give them a call and see what they say.
I was considering taking out insurance, then in a few days call them and tell them its broken, This is risky.... what do you think the odds are with me getting away with it ?
Do you think they would notice the aftermarket digitizer ? It is an exact replica with HTC on it....
these damn phones are so fragile.... I miss the old nokias

No, you won't get away with it, and it's dishonest, anyway. Don't make yourself a criminal over a cell phone.
Now, that being said, check Ebay. There are lots of vendors in the UK and elsewhere (lots here in the US) that sell replacement screen kits, many of which include instructions and tools.
If you're handy with small tools and careful, you can do this yourself for a fraction of what it will cost you to have it done. I learned this when my kid's iPod battery died some years ago. They're not user replaceable, and Apple wanted some outrageous amount to do it, plus you had to send it away. I found a guy on line that sold batteries with tools and directions, and in 20 minutes, she was good as new.
Pays to do it yourself.

I totally agree with you !! i do not want to result to fraudulent behaviour... BUT, i dont want to pay approx £80 for parts and make the whole situation worse by possibly making more damage.
BUT i also dont want to pay approx £150 - £200 thinking i could of fixed it for much less by doing it myself.
I am good with stuff like that and am very gentle and careful..... but i dont believe in myself lol
I recently replaced mine. Its not too terribly hard to do. But you have to get it just right. Since the Sensation screen is made by two different manufactures is it possible to mix and match them or do you have to replace the screen with the same one with phone came with? I have a Sensation that needs a LCD that I have not taken apart yet. Im wanting to get the better screen but im not sure if I can just put the better screen in it if thats not what it came with in the first place.

Well it's much better to replace it with the same display just to be sure it's going to work. There's also a side by side comparison of the Sharp and Acer (AUO) displays
That said, you can check what panel you have using the instructions on this thread:

Well I got the screen and digitizer from the link above today. Installed it and its perfectly fine. No lag anywhere, registers touch like the stock one did. The LCD panel seems to be the same quality as the AUO panel but thats fine with me since im pretty sure this phone came with the AUO from the factory. If you do decide to replace your screen and digitizer i suggest getting them as separate pieces. Having them attached to each other made it sorta difficult to get back together cleanly.

well the day after i got it fixed i knocked it off the side onto tiled flooring, it cracked the lcd but not the digitizer... so weird lol
anyway since then i have had some signal issues with my provider, they have established that the handset is faulty, they are collecting it to repair it.
I still havent had the screen fixed so im just going to see what happens when they go to repair it, Maybe they will think they broke the screen and fix it before returning it to me. Or maybe they wont.... if thats the case i will argue with them that it was fine before they took it away from me
after all, they must have 100's of these phones in boxes gathering dust in their warehouse(s) so a little arguing and im sure i will get it fixed / replaced.

[Q]Which batch of HTC ONE S is with chipping issue?

Hello everyone.
I gust open this thread to know which phone is with chipping issue.
Please post your first 5 digits of your serial number and you will help us to know what phone to pick up.
i dont think there is a specific batch of phones. I think its the manufacturing process that is causing it. All first sold phones have a S/N of 23 in the front, but who is to say if the first 24s are not going to have the same issue?
For all its worth mine is SH23MW
The black ones are the ones that chip. The grey does not.

I think that the black ones are OK but must include "24" in the serial number. That's mean that is batch from appril....and should be without chipping issue.

I do not know that.I'm just thinking that in the firs bach from march there are a lot of defective handsets(see this threat). And also think that from april still have not many complaints....witch means that they are better than the older ones from march.

The march batch was the first batch anyway. Nobody knows if the April one will be better or not. Also a lot of current users use a case for the phone and therefore chipping is not happening because of that.
The only way to be sure that the April batch is better is if HTC announces it

You really shouldn't post those speculations.. there are people out there reading this, not thinking themselves and so taking it for real. Actually I've read that there are already "24"-SNs with chipping out there (of course no garantueed information).
Besides: Why should early 24's be free of issues? HTC impossibly was able to fix the production process immediately in early April.

I think that the black ones are OK but must include "24" in the serial number. That's mean that is batch from appril....and should be without chipping issue.

False. My SN begins with HT242W. I am exchanging it with Expansys because of a chipped finish.

This.
I just received a replacement for a handset with the chipping issue from buymobilephones.net in the UK and it is S/N SH23MW.
Upon opening it had the same chips around the USB port that developed on the original handset.
Back to square one. -angry face-
The grey ones won't have that chipping issue since it is not processed with micro-arc oxidation technology. The grey ones are only made of aluminum and they come with the blue camera ring around the camera.
The black ones with red rings on the camera lens are the ones that were processed with micro-arc oxidation. I've heard somewhere that some later replacement models came with no chipping issues. Just keep sending back the ones with chipping issues.
I also noticed that even though HTC announced that the micro-arc oxidation process would make the casing up to 5x as strong as ordinary coatings/materials, it is NOT scratch proof and just like a standard aluminum case, it would scratch easily.
It's only the look and feel that sets it apart from an ordinary coating/material. We still need cases for it...

Well HTC did not claim that the MAO is scratch resistent or indestructible, and they stated this recently. But in their beautiful MAO-spot they say that people for first time won't need cases. That statement was, what atually totally catched my attention for the phone sice I hate cases and deny using them (I didn't buy those outdoor mobiles with ugly ruber cases some years ago either).
I already decide to get the grey one and I will not have any fears about chipping.HTC did nothing about it....still lot of complains even from the new batch starting with 24.

But it should be at least 24T, right? Like in the post below:

I'm following that thread to see if his HOS chips. As 'touch of jobo' stated here, it's still ok!
