Will this device ever have a dev team? - HTC Butterfly

I just got this phone recently and I wondered if we will ever have a good dev team for this phone. The glory days of this phone is rather short lived as HTC announced the One but I really love this phone because of the screen and if devs all jumped to the One I will be quite sad. That said, do you guys think we will have a good dev team? I know this phone is not really released into other parts of the world yet and people should start browsing more on this forum when that happens.

Why do you think that its days are gonna end fast? M7, as i know do not have microSD slot. Its like an MP3 pleers story - when everybody stoped making them with external butteries. The iRiver t60 is the last one iknow with buttery - and now it sells for $200.

This device doesn't seem to be very popular, maybe you can still sell it while its retaining value and move on to the htc one when it releases.

this device did not launch in major gsm markets (most of europe, north america), and in fact despite being a better device (imo) because of the sdcard many gsm users bought the droid dna specifically because of better dev support from verizon devs at least
and even though the devices are similar, without one in hand most devs (myself included) wont port dna work to it since its too annoying

To be honest, this device will be my 2nd device once the HTC One is out BUT ONLY if there is a possibility to S-Off the HTC One. Without it, I don't see the point of having almost twice the same device.

Just be glad that we have atleast one dev "mdeejay" porting his ROM for x920d ...

There should be official CyanogenMod support for this guy right? And, how hard is it to port a ROM to this device? I might want to learn to port some ROMs from the DNA to this one.

I don't think there will be any CM support now that HTC One has been announced.. That device seems more promising with less variants to dev for..
As for developing yourself, that's how every dev started need patience, tech knowledge and some hard work plus time!

I dont understand - in what universe One is way better then Butterfly? As i know it has 10-20% faster CPU and NO microSD slot. LTE, NFC, full banf 3G support - is a questions. So why does everybody speaks about it? Aluminum case?
upd It have only 1 Gb RAM... Why is it so expectable???

The things I like about the One is the metal body, the stereo speakers and the bigger battery. The screen of the Butterfly can't be beat, I went back to using the One X and the screen is feels so small! The 5 inch Full HD screen on this phone is just amazing!!!

since Droid DNA share the similar stuffs with us, why not we just hope/ask nicely to the devs to support us x920d/e?

This is exactly the reason why I went with DNA
I had to import it as I live in India.
DNA n butterfly share similar characteristics, so technically any Rom for DNA should be working for butterfly as well and vice versa , it just needs a dev who can port it. Classic example being virtuosDNA which is based on butterfly firmware but DNA gsm users can also use it without any issues.
Also verizon American devs don't port as it has some risks attached to it.
As far as I understand gsm DNA users are the lucky ones as they get best of both worlds
DNA also is S-off
Your best hope is CM which is in advanced stage for DNA as radio progress has been made today
As far as HTC one is concerned Iam sure butterfly and DNA both will receive sense5 in a few months from now.
AOSP dev on one will be difficult as it has new cpu and different camera module. Iam sure HTC won't release camera specific drivers to public. Remember HTC evo 3d ....

The J Butterfly has root and a custom rom that's accessable thanks to SharpISO3. It's an excellent start for such a minority device IMO and I'm sure things will get better over time.

Still hope devs from Droid DNA to build all variants together.

not just the aluminium case, the promotion they give to htc one, its already got firing every where, every mobile operators will carry this device, many mobile stores and sites are already started pre order.
Now, if butterfly was given that importance, then this forum would have been full with devs and supporters, unfortunately htc itself depromoted butterfly for what so ever reasons, they only know. price is also a damp factor.
I waited more than a month to get hold this beauty butterfly.

the over priced and less availability. still many parts of the world haven't heard about this phone, htc already diverted to ONE, its doubtful if they will give preference to this one. So xperia is a good choice from your point of view, otherwise butterfly is unbeatable.

Hmm... Do you guys think that the CyanogenMod team will bring CM to this device?

The Sensation is not what you want. This device may fall under the category with the Droid X and the Atrix. There is barely any support for either device. I suggest you ride it out with the G2X because support and roms will come in a bundle sooner or later. The sensation is tempting but once you do your initial setup than what?

But seriously, I'm a gadget whore. If it's shiny I'm one of the first to own it. I can't use cooked ROMs because everyone I've used (and I've used some of the greats) leave me f-d trying to register on foreign networks. I agree with you up to a point about dev support for the Sensation. Keep in mind it's HTC's flagship phone and will be highly sought after worldwide (as will the SGS2). Based on its popularity, I'm guessing it'll get some dev love.

This is the feature that kept me on the g2x.
Also the extra ram and processer power that the sensation has is for sense ui to run smooth.
Cant wait until new kernels arrive that will make the tegra a crazy powerhouse. The phone has been out for about two weeks, give it some time for the devs to get a hold of it. The nexus s for the first 2 months had a really lame dev section.

Wouldn't the Thunderbolt be a better comparison to the Sensation rather than those Motorola phones since Motorola uses a different method of locking down their devices?

No because the only reason the THunderbolt was unlocked was because of a leaked old ROM that wasn't locked down. Total luck.
I just came from an atrix and there is one dev cooking roms. (He has two). While they were both awesome its not a whole lot...we have more development here in two weeks then they had in 3 months. The atrix has more ram which is its only advantage....I always had like 700 mb ram available.....so for me the extra ram didn't benefit me. I was tempted to get the nexus s due to it being pure google but the fact that its a samsung phone (had alot of problems with galaxy s) and with dual core phones coming out I figured I would skip it. The g2x is what the nexus s should have shipped with. Dual core tegra.

Motorola was a big name in Android because of the $100MM in marketing they and Verizon spent to put Android on the map with the "Droid does" campaign. Once HTC and Samsung got with the program Motorola's market share has been steadily declining. They're also primarily a North American player where Samsung and HTC are global. Both the SGS2 and Sensation will each individually sell more units than the entire Motorola Android product line. Spec wise the Atrix is a good comparison but sales and acceptance wise not so much. I at least give them credit for going back to the drawing board on the Bionic rather than launching what would have been an already dated phone.
Assuming all future Samsung and HTC phones are based off the internals of the SGS2 and Sensation, the impact of what you're saying is devs are going to stop working on Samsung and HTC phones. I find that hard to accept. Especially when the SGS2 and Sensation (and their derivatives) are expected to sell in the millions of units. Only time will tell.

[Q] One S Development

Hello guys, i'm in love with the One S, but i've been watching the forums lately, and the One S is receiving way less attention then the One X.
We have at least 3 big and great custom Roms for the One X, and i can't see any for the One S yet.
Do you guys think the One S android development is going to reach the One X sometime?
I want to know this, before i buy the phone, or else i'm getting a One X
One x doesn't have a bootable cyanogenmod..mainly sense roms. The desire HD took a while to kick in on dev side also..its preference
The only development missing is really cyanogenmod daily type and tool sets Modding battery etc.you won't be missing out on much.plus our battery's last longer and doesn't have the flex issue the first x stock has lol
It is slow bit but come onn...crap phones have active development...it will happen.

One X counts as "Flagship" so more ppl buying it - more development. But I think after first few 2-3 month ppl will understand that S is as good as X, also I guess it wont be problem to take same roms from X and make them avaible for S.
Definetly not something what should affect your decision about what phone to buy. Choose which u like more, the development of roms will be good for both.
Maybe One S will get more attention after it gets released on Tmobile.

I'm so happy that I opted for the S instead of the X. In my (humble) opinion, most people have been drawn to the Quad core of the X - but it seems the S is just as, if not more, powerful!
I think as people realise that the S is up there in the power ratings then development will pick up. I hope so, I miss having my Insertcoin\ARHD etc ROMs to choose from =D

Its not the Quad-core that stands out on X, its the 720p IPS SLCD2 display. Its the best on the market today. I havent seen One S in person, but usually SAMOLED displays suck big time, perhaps HTC done some calibration on this one to make it better.
I love the Amoled screen, I thought it was ace on the SGS.... I think its even better on the One S....
if someone doesnt like it, They tend to slate it, and that puts other people off... instead of just sayin 'personally its not for me, i prefer the xxxxxx screen' they rant and rave 'oh its **** dont waste your money'

i also can't wait for s-off. the htc dev method isn't a choice for me.
I'm disappointed in the developers which decide blind for the one x. Sure it is the Flagship, but with years old manufacturing technique. nobody can say that a comparable 40nm manufactured cpu saves more energy that a 28nm manufactured one. faster sure, but a pockedheater^^
only one good dev for a rom and one for the kernel is enought for us. I love to flash costum roms, best two times a week^^ i miss it.

[Q] [Answered] One X+ = New Sense Roms for One XL?

I'm trying to understand how making custom ROMs works, and I love sense based ROMs so I was wondering that since the One X+ has been released with a (presumably) new version of Sense, will that soon be able to be ported to the One XL? Or is this different since the processors in the devices are different etc? Could someone educate me just a little bit?
Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, One X goes with Android 4.0 and "Sense 4"
And from what I've read One X+ has Android 4.1 and "Sense 4.1". [from HTCs website]
Either way, If you like Sense there are roms that have been modded so you get the latest version of sense on your phone.
If all you want is strict Sense 4.1, try CleanRom.
I stuck with the Sense roms for awhile, then went over to CM10, and now am at Liquid.
They aren't as much different roms, as Android 4.0 shipped on the One X and Android 4.1 shipped on the One X+.
And to answer the next, roms on different phones are generally different because yes, the specs are different. Where you may have a phone with a bigger screen and a hardware keyboard, I have a phone with a small screen and a touch screen keyboard. The specs are easily different, requiring some modding - would be required to get the same stable rom on both phones.
The one x + is running sense on top of jelly bean. Just be patient, and have faith in our devs. They will port it when it's ready.

Bingo.
I have full faith in the Devs and can't believe the hard work they do to support all of our habits , I started flashing a month ago and I am totally addicted, finally feel like the money I spend on my cell phone plan and on the device itself has come full circle because of the hard work of developers.
In any event - thanks for confirming what I thought about the differences in processors and porting OSs to the XL. I'll keep my eyes peeled for when JB is released for the XL hopefully before the new year.
Got that right!

If you look at the International One X forum it looks just like the Desire HD forum, a lot of the same devs are there. The Mini is dead, long live the Mini....

The Mini is dead, long live the Mini....
Let's face it. The mini is dead in the water, literally months after launch, there is nothing happening. Full respect is due to the MagioRom team, and tr1gg3r84 in particular for all the great work producing a great rom. But without support from the HTCDEV (ha) team, no RUU, no updates for unlocked phones, no focus.
It really had the potential to be a great phone, but HTC sunk the ship before it sailed. 16GB (10 you can use) and 1GB RAM. I formatted it fully yesterday, 2 nandroid backups, 1 GB of music, 1.8 GB of video and Titanium Backups = 2GB free. Pathetic.
AND we won't be getting anything other than the launch JB 4.2.2 build 1.22 on an unlocked phone, as formally stated by HTC. Yes, we will help you unlock, but then you're f#@ked. Just buy a ONE.
Not only have HTC ignored and abandoned the mini, so have the dev community on xda (we had some promising interest at first by some good senior devs, but interest has been lost) and cm - I've stayed tuned as asked to do so by Cyanogen:
September 06, 2013
HTC One Mini
Adding to our ever growing device list, Negri Electronics stepped up to help out yet again, this time sending us the One Mini. Stay tuned for ‘codename: m4′ builds to be released. The Negri team has been great to work with and we appreciate their support of CM and the community.
Errrrrr......hellooooooo? Am i tuned to the wrong station?
I don't want a sense/bloated rom. I mean, come on, 1GB zips? I don't have room on my bloody phone to hold the zip AND a backup prior to flashing.
I'm going back to Samsung - s#it build quality, but at least you can mod the thing.
It breaks my heart, but I've had enough of getting excited when I get a xda notification on a dev thread thinking it might, just might, be something new. But, just like Santa, you learn that he's not coming.
Believe me, this IS NOT a rant directed at xda, the devs, and the fantastic work they do, I'm ranting out of frustration - HTC, you nearly had a convert.
See ya.
N.
I kind of agree with this ... this phone does have potential, but with no community to back it up it just kind of flops. I got mine yesterday and I can't even root it for god sakes.
I might use it for a bit till the Sony Xperia Z1f comes out ... HTC really dropped the ball on this one ...
I say give it time. Good things come to those that wait. I just got my HTC One Mini yesterday and out the box it's a really great phone, but yeah I'm a flash-a-holic and coming from the Galaxy S1 with its HUGE dev section here on XDA, it makes me long for something to flash to my new phone..
Least we still have root available to us. And for me storage isn't a big problem with having an unlimited internet contract, cloud storage, and USB OTG which can be used to backup your nandroids or anything else apart from apps. This is still a new phone and I'd like to think its still to early to call it, maybe I'm wrong, I hope not..
I find most development leans towards flag ship models as more people have them, but I dislike these giants, so do others, and others may soon join the mini following giving a bigger fan base for developers to take notice of..

Edit: sorry, I misundertood you, I guess you're referring to unlocked bootloader.

No I haven't tried unlocking bootloader ... I tried installing TWRP Recovery to no avail. I tried using OneClickRoot for the rooting. What should I use to unlock the bootloader? Thanks.

You do it at htcdev.com and select other in handset, but I haven't tried out yet..
Pretty sure you need this for TWRP recovery.

Awesome ... that worked after unlocking the bootloader, I installed TWRP Recovery successfully. Thanks!
EDIT: rooted the phone through TWRP recovery.
So I had to do this: unlock bootloader via HTCDev as you advised -> install TWRP via fastboot -> root via TWRP yay
Yeah I do agree with the lack if updates/ruu that are available for people. But I have a update coming for 4.2.2 and it's pretty smooth fast and great battery life. Plus alot of features. Also I'm working with a kernel dev who might be able to help me bring a 4.3 sense 5.5 to mini ported from the M7. Maybe in time Cm roms but that's till a source is available. But for now gotta make do with what's available if not try and make something.

Pretty much. It's a great phone, but unfortunately HTC cut too much out and the development for it is almost dead. I kind of wish I waited to upgrade my phone because now I can get a Moto X or a HTC One for $100 which is the same price I paid for the One Mini.
I'm hoping h8drift gets Cm 10.2 working and stable on the Mini, but he hasn't posted anything in almost a month.
Apparently the Mini is supposed to get the 4.3 update with Sense 5.5 so at least that's something.

The sales about Mini is very very small and yes, this phone is pretty dead already because the majority of target customers are One S and they decided to stay with One S for one more year and wait for another 4.3" from HTC in 2014.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1531
You see our One S board is still quite active......
Speaking for the One S. One Mini was supposed to replace One S but ended up it can't. One S has even more advantages over One Mini.
1. One S got an even more slim, light weight and cool design over One Mini
2. One S is more harder and more protection without using case
3. One S(S4) the cpu/gpu/bus-bandwidth is more faster
4. One Mini got UltraPixel and good at low light but outdoor photo is outperformed by One S 's 8M sensor.
Personally, I'm an One S user and thinking to upgrade to One or One Mini because I love the idea of Zoe. I must admit that originally I prefer to get HTC One but there are just too many dead UltraPixel on HTC One while One Mini used more mature manufactured UltraPixel stocks and hardly hear about purple tint issue, this made me switch to notice One Mini.

HAHAHA I could do that ... except I live 4 hours away from my parents!
Damn.... I have to replace my HTC Pyramid (still active developement) rather soon so I was looking for a new phone. Fell in love with the design of HTC's One Mini. However after now reading this thread I will prob. not update to the Mini.
Thank you :crying:... and I guess thank you
Despite all these drawbacks, the phone on its stock is still great. Also it doesnt cost much for a premium design

HTC One SV gets Sense 5 and 4.2.2

Anyone remember the change.org petition for our One S to get Sense 5? It got over 10,000 signs and there were some rumors that HTC will release an official update - but thats it.
HTC released Android 4.2.2 plus Sense 5 for the HTC One SV (worse device that ours) and left us behind again. So don't ever except an update for our device.
MAYBE, htc will skip 4.2/4.3 and HOPEFULLY give us KitKat

Never going to happen because of the s3 version of the one s

Agree with that . And personally i think HTC don't care about update.. their principal motivation is trying to challenge their rival samsung and apple on the market. That's why they put out 3 or 6 devices in the same year . Update is not a good thing for them cause if they make some update for the one series (x,s,v,sv,xl,x+) then they cannot sell device like they do at this moment. Their politics is like that : (update=new device).. the only thing HTC care about is money.
I love HTC device and sense UI but HTC don't care about their users..

Hello. I wrote some emails to Jason McKenzie (the president of HTC US) and he answered that an update for our device will never come. I sent him like 10 mails and he answer always, but the response is the same: they can't roll out the update some some reason that are in their control and others that they can't control. If someone interested, I can publish some content of the mail..

Sure, why not.
CM 11 will also not come to One S. Or it will not work properly (dont ever expect working camera, bluetooth and much more)
Ok. This is the fist answer to my mail: 'I understand your frustration and am personally driving a focus on upgrade commitments for our customers. *Unfortunately, the decision to upgrade or not upgrade is not solely an HTC decision. *We also require carrier approval. As a company, we are focused on delivering strong sw experiences that resonate with customers which is why we invest in HTC sense.*
It's also important to note that of all the android suppliers, HTC has the strongest track record of updates as validated by 3rd parties. With that said, we are far from satisfied and*my vision is that we deliver highly transparent information to our customers with clear commitment around certain products. *
As you note, we are not scheduled globally to update the One S. This is true for a variety of reasons some that are in our control and others that are not. And I'm sorry for this, but do believe it is a strong phone with strong sw given the investment we've made to improve the os.*
Thanks'

I won't be so sure about that, i've read on CM10.2 thread that some dev are working on it and it seams to work pretty well and more KitKat update seams to fix some reboot problems. And Cyanogen limit for a phone, as told, is like for Google 512Mo of ram and a decent CPU so I think we will not be left behind

HTC isn't a disgrace. It's just a mobile phone company who struggle with many problems: deficit income, competitors such as Apple and Samsung, smartphones market pressure, etc. I pray they will stand up and back stronger with new innovations. We need to stay positive and optimistic.
For me htc is the best in innovation, they bring a very full UI with tons of settings, 3d, best improvement in sound, very good innivation in camera .. people are obsessed with apple but apple suck in innovation ( 4 generation of device with same UI)
I hope they will care more about their users and back with a bomb who will blow their rivals .

In case of hardware KitKat would run excellent on the One S no question.

No over-the-air update was promised; just an update was 'promised', if you can even call it that.
That ROM is based on semi-official sources; i.e. the update for the HTC One X+ with the MSM8960 S4 chipset. The North American One S runs on the same chipset, specifically the T-Mobile version which is needed for AWS support.
This is probably why HTC first announced that they were thinking about NA One S users first, before anyone else.
