The Mini is dead, long live the Mini....
Let's face it. The mini is dead in the water, literally months after launch, there is nothing happening. Full respect is due to the MagioRom team, and tr1gg3r84 in particular for all the great work producing a great rom. But without support from the HTCDEV (ha) team, no RUU, no updates for unlocked phones, no focus.
It really had the potential to be a great phone, but HTC sunk the ship before it sailed. 16GB (10 you can use) and 1GB RAM. I formatted it fully yesterday, 2 nandroid backups, 1 GB of music, 1.8 GB of video and Titanium Backups = 2GB free. Pathetic.
AND we won't be getting anything other than the launch JB 4.2.2 build 1.22 on an unlocked phone, as formally stated by HTC. Yes, we will help you unlock, but then you're f#@ked. Just buy a ONE.
Not only have HTC ignored and abandoned the mini, so have the dev community on xda (we had some promising interest at first by some good senior devs, but interest has been lost) and cm - I've stayed tuned as asked to do so by Cyanogen:
September 06, 2013
HTC One Mini
Adding to our ever growing device list, Negri Electronics stepped up to help out yet again, this time sending us the One Mini. Stay tuned for ‘codename: m4′ builds to be released. The Negri team has been great to work with and we appreciate their support of CM and the community.
Errrrrr......hellooooooo? Am i tuned to the wrong station?
I don't want a sense/bloated rom. I mean, come on, 1GB zips? I don't have room on my bloody phone to hold the zip AND a backup prior to flashing.
I'm going back to Samsung - s#it build quality, but at least you can mod the thing.
It breaks my heart, but I've had enough of getting excited when I get a xda notification on a dev thread thinking it might, just might, be something new. But, just like Santa, you learn that he's not coming.
Believe me, this IS NOT a rant directed at xda, the devs, and the fantastic work they do, I'm ranting out of frustration - HTC, you nearly had a convert.
See ya.
N.
I kind of agree with this ... this phone does have potential, but with no community to back it up it just kind of flops. I got mine yesterday and I can't even root it for god sakes.
I might use it for a bit till the Sony Xperia Z1f comes out ... HTC really dropped the ball on this one ...
I say give it time. Good things come to those that wait. I just got my HTC One Mini yesterday and out the box it's a really great phone, but yeah I'm a flash-a-holic and coming from the Galaxy S1 with its HUGE dev section here on XDA, it makes me long for something to flash to my new phone..
Least we still have root available to us. And for me storage isn't a big problem with having an unlimited internet contract, cloud storage, and USB OTG which can be used to backup your nandroids or anything else apart from apps. This is still a new phone and I'd like to think its still to early to call it, maybe I'm wrong, I hope not..
I find most development leans towards flag ship models as more people have them, but I dislike these giants, so do others, and others may soon join the mini following giving a bigger fan base for developers to take notice of..

Why do you say that? We've already had an OTA update since launch (on 1.32.401.2 with UK unlocked here) and all the announcements so far have indicated that 4.3 is coming for the mini after the One. Did I miss another fornal announcement to the contrary?
Edit: sorry, I misundertood you, I guess you're referring to unlocked bootloader.

Awesome ... that worked after unlocking the bootloader, I installed TWRP Recovery successfully. Thanks!
EDIT: rooted the phone through TWRP recovery.
So I had to do this: unlock bootloader via HTCDev as you advised -> install TWRP via fastboot -> root via TWRP yay
Yeah I do agree with the lack if updates/ruu that are available for people. But I have a update coming for 4.2.2 and it's pretty smooth fast and great battery life. Plus alot of features. Also I'm working with a kernel dev who might be able to help me bring a 4.3 sense 5.5 to mini ported from the M7. Maybe in time Cm roms but that's till a source is available. But for now gotta make do with what's available if not try and make something.

Pretty much. It's a great phone, but unfortunately HTC cut too much out and the development for it is almost dead. I kind of wish I waited to upgrade my phone because now I can get a Moto X or a HTC One for $100 which is the same price I paid for the One Mini.
I'm hoping h8drift gets Cm 10.2 working and stable on the Mini, but he hasn't posted anything in almost a month.
Apparently the Mini is supposed to get the 4.3 update with Sense 5.5 so at least that's something.

The sales about Mini is very very small and yes, this phone is pretty dead already because the majority of target customers are One S and they decided to stay with One S for one more year and wait for another 4.3" from HTC in 2014.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1531
You see our One S board is still quite active......
Speaking for the One S. One Mini was supposed to replace One S but ended up it can't. One S has even more advantages over One Mini.
1. One S got an even more slim, light weight and cool design over One Mini
2. One S is more harder and more protection without using case
3. One S(S4) the cpu/gpu/bus-bandwidth is more faster
4. One Mini got UltraPixel and good at low light but outdoor photo is outperformed by One S 's 8M sensor.
Personally, I'm an One S user and thinking to upgrade to One or One Mini because I love the idea of Zoe. I must admit that originally I prefer to get HTC One but there are just too many dead UltraPixel on HTC One while One Mini used more mature manufactured UltraPixel stocks and hardly hear about purple tint issue, this made me switch to notice One Mini.

Hello guys, i'm in love with the One S, but i've been watching the forums lately, and the One S is receiving way less attention then the One X.
We have at least 3 big and great custom Roms for the One X, and i can't see any for the One S yet.
Do you guys think the One S android development is going to reach the One X sometime?
I want to know this, before i buy the phone, or else i'm getting a One X
One x doesn't have a bootable cyanogenmod..mainly sense roms. The desire HD took a while to kick in on dev side also..its preference
The only development missing is really cyanogenmod daily type and tool sets Modding battery etc.you won't be missing out on much.plus our battery's last longer and doesn't have the flex issue the first x stock has lol
It is slow bit but come onn...crap phones have active development...it will happen.

One X counts as "Flagship" so more ppl buying it - more development. But I think after first few 2-3 month ppl will understand that S is as good as X, also I guess it wont be problem to take same roms from X and make them avaible for S.
Definetly not something what should affect your decision about what phone to buy. Choose which u like more, the development of roms will be good for both.
Maybe One S will get more attention after it gets released on Tmobile.

I'm so happy that I opted for the S instead of the X. In my (humble) opinion, most people have been drawn to the Quad core of the X - but it seems the S is just as, if not more, powerful!
I think as people realise that the S is up there in the power ratings then development will pick up. I hope so, I miss having my Insertcoin\ARHD etc ROMs to choose from =D

Its not the Quad-core that stands out on X, its the 720p IPS SLCD2 display. Its the best on the market today. I havent seen One S in person, but usually SAMOLED displays suck big time, perhaps HTC done some calibration on this one to make it better.
I love the Amoled screen, I thought it was ace on the SGS.... I think its even better on the One S....
if someone doesnt like it, They tend to slate it, and that puts other people off... instead of just sayin 'personally its not for me, i prefer the xxxxxx screen' they rant and rave 'oh its **** dont waste your money'
and it gives it a bad reputation

i also can't wait for s-off. the htc dev method isn't a choice for me.
I'm disappointed in the developers which decide blind for the one x. Sure it is the Flagship, but with years old manufacturing technique. nobody can say that a comparable 40nm manufactured cpu saves more energy that a 28nm manufactured one. faster sure, but a pockedheater^^
only one good dev for a rom and one for the kernel is enought for us. I love to flash costum roms, best two times a week^^ i miss it.

Just curious, why is HTC Dev not a choice for you?
I thought I would get some feedback from fellow One S users: I just saw how frickin' awesome Jelly Bean is going to be, and have come across an opportunity to trade my One S for a GNex (which has already begun receiving the JB update). Given how long it takes for HTC to roll out ANYTHING, should I make that jump? I know there are a few trade offs, namely an inferior camera on the GNex. But JB looks so sweet, and I am a HUGE fan of vanilla Android. What do others think?

I know the One S has better specs, but who knows how long we will be waiting for JB. I guess my main gripe with the One S is how we're stuck with Sense. I tolerate it, but I vastly prefer vanilla Android and AOSP. I know some AOSP builds have made progress but still have problems with no real solutions in sight yet, like camera and connectivity issues.

Nexus has the better screen+NFC+JB but our One S is superior in design, power, camera, & sound.

Things are working to a degree but CM9 is still far from my daily driver standards. I check that thread all the time and keep seeing issues pop up, particularly with picture/video recorder quality, which is a deal breaker for me.
And I would be getting money on top for the GNex, if this guy ever gets back to me. I wouldn't even really need much back to even out what I spent since I talked the T-Mo reps down to $100 for my One S when I got it.

HTC is not TOO bad when it comes to releasing software updates. It certainly is not the worst, *cough* Samsung. Once Google officially releases the source of Jellybean, HTC will begin updating Sense to 4.1. It's safe to say that we would not receive and update until at least 1-2 months after the release; possibly more, depending on HTC's developers. One thing I am skeptical about is waiting to T-Mobile to release their version of HTC Sense with T-Mobile apps and bloatware. If anyone is on stock T-Mobile waiting for an update, this is one thing to consider. I am sure this will not take long as all T-Mobile has to do is add its apps and bloat ****, then release it.
Regarding the difference between the GN and HOS handsets, our device is much better; at least, in my opinion. We have a MUCH better build quality (metal, sleek). We also have better specs, albeit, no sdcard slot. Just because a device gets and update first does not mean it is the best. The GN has it first because it is still the flagship stock Android device as it is a Nexus device. If our HOS was on stock ICS with no Sense, we would get the update at the same time as well, most likely. In sum, we just have to wait a bit longer
EDIT: benchmark scores do not mean ****.

Me: "It's going to start rolling out to the newer Android phones over the next few months, but the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has it now."

Update: The latest reports suggest the One X will see Android 4.1 pop up in October, although HTC are yet to officially confirm anything.
Update:HTC has confirmed its One X and One S devices will be getting Android 4.1 in November and December respectively, and the update will land with an enhanced version of Sense – cunningly named Sense 4+ after its debut on the HTC One X+.

As of yesterday give it take " update for the one x and one s will be November and December respectively"!

A lot of us have sim free devices, which means we don't have to rely on network providers, so in theory if HTC released the JB update for Europe, every sim free one s that was bought from Europe should have the JB update by the end of the week, likewise for USA etc. Network locked/branded phones have to wait.
Sim free device means it comes down to the CID number.
Although with the way things worked out for the last update, it sounds like you're better of with branded phones
Take 5-10 seconds to read this thread, I already posted that quote in this thread already......
Regarding as to if JB will make a difference or not, many people who have the GS 3 have said the difference in smoothness is pretty big coming from ICS and from my experience the GS 3 is smoother than the S, just not as nippy/speedy though.
Besides there is more to it than just project butter:
- notification tray UI update
- improvement in battery slightly
- improvements in sense such as themes for the SMS sense app, camera UI, battery history/graph
No doubt there will be other improvements, possibly improving signal/wifi performance even more.

Man...some of you don't seem to understand how the update process works. Weather HTC said this month or not it doesn't matter. You service provider has final say as to when you get your precious update.
As of yesterday give it take " update for the one x and one s will be November and December respectively"!
Take 2 seconds and google it.
4.0.4 with sense 4 is pretty slick so I'm not sure why everyone has their panties in a bunch

Mines sim free not branded and should get it straight away also once devs get their hands on the software they can implement it into their roms so technically we are just waiting for HTC and they don't stick to their deadlines

I'm just going to throw this in here also... Coming from a family who has ran a small business, deadlines are hard to keep. You may think with 100% certainty that something will be done by then, but something else pops up and you have to focus on that.
Even with HTC being a bigger company they have a TON of other things to worry about, not going out of business for one. There's no way HTC has as many developers on board as Samsung and Google at the moment, not to mention how much more work goes into Sense UI than Touchwiz.

Not only that, but do you remember a few years ago when phones didn't update firmware or software at all?! As someone already mentioned, the recent OTA update is great, and gets any job done for all intents and purposes. This is a case of wanting the shiny new thing right away - I say you're lucky you don't have to buy a new phone to get it at all, IMHO.
If you can give a solid example how JB will fix a major problem, or make your Android-Phone-using life drastically better, I'll reconsider. In the mean time I'm more than happy with what I have.

Couldn't agree more. I don't see how much better my phone can get, it does anything and everything I want it to. It lasts me more than all day, except if I play heavy games (Which is a given with any phone...)
If you want fast updates, and a lot of them go to a iphone.
Everyone is nagging on HTC, while not enjoying what they have.
Jellybean will not drop until after the one x+ drops. Count on it. That's how they get that small percentage of impatient people to upgrade.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but give HTC a break.
I mean, it is them but it is us too.
Several companies haven't even pushed ICS yet.
And are you kidding? Not many things changed, just an addition of Google Now and some other things. I would understand if they like promised like 5.0 Kandy Kane/Key Lime Pie/Krispy Kreme or whatever, but no.
The update is also confirmed to start rolling out in October-November.
HTC no longer announces dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. At any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base. Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.
Also, look at other companies. Samsung, Huawei, Sony, Alcatel, etc. All companies are never sure when they are going to release it. I'm sure it's not easy to develop something for ever single device and customize everything to a liking. All phone companies lie.
Hope that helps!
I also think the main reason they could be late is because of rebasing it on 4.1.2 instead of 4.1.1, to avoid another update in the future.

Hi guys !
If you look at the link below, it says (in French sorry :/) that the htc one x & s (SFR branded) will be updated on the 6th November. It also mentions that they are now validating internally the update.

This.
I am sure JB has been ready for quite a while now, well most certainly for the one X anyway.
Only reason they don't release it for the X is due to the above, another selling point for the X+.
Exact same happened with the GS 3 and the GS 3 LTE model in the UK, only in the last few days have GS 3 UK owners been getting the JB update despite the LTE model being out for a month or a few weeks iirc. Only difference between them is one has an extra GB of RAM and is LTE supported.
I am in no rush at all really, however, I would like to get the update before the end of the year though especially since I can't see us getting 4.2.....
Here is just a glimpse preview of what JB and the new sense will bring, it is for the X though and some stuff isn't right i.e. we do have the notifications new features, which shows more detail.

The one X will.
I just have a funny feeling the s won't, due to it not being popular at all, HTC have a whole bunch of new android phones out and will be releasing even more in the next 1-2 months meaning less time and money to spend on older devices. Plus we have only had like 2 updates since the phone released, where as the X has had around 4-5.
Of course, I could be completely wrong and really hope I am.
Although if the XL gets the update (and am pretty sure it will), then there is absolutely no reason why they can't provide the update to the S as well.....

At this point, with the One X being about 9 months old, I'd be looking at a phone that is more of a significant upgrade to the One X. Not looking to upgrade right now, but more likely after my One X is a year old (this May). Maybe something along the lines of the upcoming M7.
I've never been a huge fan of the Sony devices. They don't look too shabby. But they don't seem to be very widespread, which also causes them to have pretty weak developer support.
I haven't followed the Sony devices very closely. But I remembered a while back they had pretty locked down bootloaders, which really stifled dev activity. Is this still the case?
The Xperia T also looks like it might be a bit more clunky (or at least not as sleek as the One X) and the display might not be as nice. So I'm not sure if I'd even call it an equal. But that is just based on the review you linked.
The Z looks pretty nice, but I'm sticking with the X until it dies on me

They offer online unlocking very similar to HTC however AT&T devices are not unlockable (sound familiar?). Unfortunately no one has found a workaround for those devices
Sony is quite good about working with the FreeXperia team, providing timely sources, submitting code to cyanogenmod and aosp, donating devices, etc. But you're right that the talent pool is still smaller, so progress isn't as quick because of how much work the good devs are shouldering

Ditto!
I had an xperia x10, great phone that came with 2.1 and we even got GB! The problem is that Sony went good too late and everyone decided to abandon them. IMO Sony devices are the sexiest phones on the market and as said above, they help devs.
I'm also awaiting the M7 or "HTC One".. I'm loving the new leaked pictures, even though its taking an apple approach. If they include the new snapdragon 800 series processors, I'm preordering

Unfortunately the Snapdragon 800 won't be in production until this summer so I don't see that happening for the new One
I've always loved sony phones since my old t-637 so naturally I looked into the T but every review I read had something negative to say about the battery life. I'm going to ride my one x til the wheels fall off, however the xperia z has definitely caught my eye. First phone I've seen since the hox to make me even think about upgrading.
The one Sony device I've had (the X10) was pretty good at the time I had it. The camera was great (especially for a device made in like 2009) and I liked the UI a lot. I was on an Xperia S rom port and it was pretty smooth for a device that old. Not sure about more recent Sony phones though

No , this not the case anymore . Sony is only company apart from nexus line which allow you to unlock boot loader easily from the tool they posted on their website ..they won xda phone of the year for 2012 because they are very friendly with unlocking and rooting stuff .. They are actively working to get Sony devices into asop ..

According to Koush on his G+ apparently the AT&T and Verizon S4 will be bootloader locked. Whilst the Verizon one probably will be the AT&T one would be a shock. I can't imagine this is true as the other galaxy devices on AT&T haven't been but I thought I'd let people know if this is the case I imagine it will be bypassed .
UPDATE: according to the engadget review they contacted Samsung who confirmed the s4 is bootloader locked. http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/24/samsung-galaxy-s-4-review/
UPDATE2: according to many sources one being Steve Kondik on he G+ the AT&T S4 is bootloader locked.

I don't think we should be all that concerned if this is true. I am coming from the HTC One X, which was rooted on day 1 on XDA and the bootloader was unlocked on day 3 or day 4 on XDA. If it is locked, it is only a matter of time.
if its locked im pretty sure adam will be more than willing to help unlock it like he did for the vzw s3 and note2 considering his main carrier is att

completely different than a htc. they are in no way locked the same way the htc unlock was basically a bypass of how htcdev worked. this will actually take hardware level scanning etc. and then finding an exploit somewhere in the bootloader or the pit
Wait, what? Link?
Yeah, where are you getting your information?
EDIT: Sorry, just saw the line about Koush on G+.

if the bootloader is locked you'll go to HTC Lololololol - you are aware that HTC locks all their bootloaders right?and if you wanna flash roms on the go you have to also s-off the device...otherwise you will need a computer for every Rom flash...or flashimagegui.apk if it supports your phone. And lately HTC s-off has required hardware tampering like my HTC vivid...you literally to short the phone while running a program with a wire...HTC is the worst android company (nice phones tho...) But they just lock everything down so hard

Koush said he had a source I do not know who it is & the HTC One is open after you use HTC Dev. The only disadvantage being you can't hide the fact you have done it until you get S-Off. Older HTC devices I agree flashing the boot.img on the One X was very annoying but the one isn't like this.

But All I know is I have had the galaxy s, the galaxy 2 and 3 and the galaxy note 2. And oh yea then there was my first android phone the g2x (I wonder why I almost forgot about that one) I got to say I love my note2 it kicks ass and it sounds funny but my favorite was the s2 I don't know why but I just love that phone. Right now I am using the s3 because I dropped my note2. Its a nice phone but just not as good as the others. Plus its a picky processor. Unfortunately I regret the fact that I will not be getting an s4 because I am going to be tied up medically for the next year or so by the time I am around there will probably be an s5 or note 3 or 4 if they even go that far with them. Or who knows maybe samsung will start a new flagship. Sorry to go off topic fellas

While yes Steve Kondik himself got the AT&T HTC One... He also said he's going to carry both the S4 and the One in his review of the One. That being said... HTC has pissed away their chances with me. The One in my humble opinion is fugly, and the thing feels like a cheap toy.. I'm way more impressed by the build quality of my Nexus 4 or Optimus G.. Also I love having the ability to swap out the battery something I've missed having sold my S3 as well as the fact it has an SD card slot.. But that's just my opinion..

Same here. I'm absolutely done with HTC as a company after the Raider.
Who'd have thought that my decision to go with them because of solidly built devices and a good out-of-box experience would go so awry? Here I come, crawling back to Samsung (had an SGS1 previously).

The Nexus One was a great device, and I loved it.. But I've been quite disappointed with HTC ever since.. I like to give every company a fair shot, The One X (international version) was the last straw for me.. To be completely honest.. IF the Sony Xperia Z or ZL had the snapdragon 600 chipset, I would most likely be getting one instead. I can't justify spending more on that device with an older chipset for more money off contract. S4 is $639 before taxes.. Though I do have a Premier acct, so I'm going to TRY to get them to give me the $100 discount as well.. Never hurts to ask, ended up getting my launch date S3 for $49.99 after they matched Best Buy, and gave me the premier discount.. It's all in whom you talk to...
