[Q] Looking for latest ROM - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
What is the latest most updated ROM versions there is for TF101?
Did 4.2.2 JB came out already? Or is it still 4.1.2?
I'm still with 4.03 ICS by Revolver and there's not apparent update of this ROM brand.
I'm more interested in modified stock ROM's than CM based ROM's.
Thanks

Asus has not gone past 4.0.3 (build 9.2.1.27) and it has been over 6 months. I have heard rumors they have abandonned it.
If you want to go to JB, you will have to go with a CM, Paranoid Android, AOSP or AOKP build.
I will say this - IT IS SO WORTH IT! It is so much smoother and such.
I was running the TeamEOS 3 (4.1.X builds) and switched to the PA/CM10 hybrid last fall. Loved the PhabletUI over the tablet UI.
TeamEOS 4 came out with (4.2.X builds) and I jumped over to that. It is fully functoinal for what I use (including BT HID and GPS). No issues for me.
I had the 4.1.2 from MattmanWRX on my TF101 and showed it to a Stock Infinity user and he swore up and down my tablet was smoother and more fluid than his (with 2x the horsepower).
All of the 4.1.X and 4.2.X ROMs that I have run (TeamEOS, LiquidSmooth, MattmanWRX and the RaymanFX 4.2 0.8.0) had full keyboard dock support if you have that.
Keep in mind, 4.2.X is a PhabletUI, no tablet interface available. If you want the Tablet UI, stick with 4.1.X.

@frederuco
Thanks for the detailed reply. I had no idea they didn't go past 4.0.3.
Several of the main features that are important to me is fully functional HDMI output, Direct WiFi, Overclocking and playing HD content smoothly.
Can you tell which ROM will provide me with these function bug-free?
Thanks a bunch!

EOS4 will be a beast once its finished, for now if your just coming from stock id recommend EOS3 (with kat kernel #70), hd playback/ heavy 3d games are improved greatly on these roms only issue you may find is input lag on hdmi, this was my experience when trying hdmi yet havnt seen it reported in the threads by anyone else yet.

I cannot comment on WiFi Direct or HDMI, but OC to 1.4 is very good. Some tablets get RR and SoD with 1.5 and higher.
No issues with video playback.
My suggestion - backup using titanium backup, install TWRP from GooManager. Backup your current ROM, then install TeamEOS 4. Be sure to wipe cache, Davlik, format system and factory reset from TWRP.
Restore apps with TB and see if it works.
If not, wipe and restore your Revolver.

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a different style of recovery. It is touch based, has a file manager and a terminal emulator in it. I like it because it can reliably access both internal and microSD storage (no SD or USB).
Also, nandroid backups grab the kernel (CWM on the TF101 do not backup the kernel).
TWRP 2.3.2.3 is required for Android 4.2 ROMs because of the new file structure for multiple users. It will flash fine the first time with other (and older TWRP) but when you update, your data starts getting in nested folders in the /sdcard/.
Another thing, when you go to wipe, ALL of the wipes are in one are instead of spread around like in CWM.
You can also set it up to flash up to 10 files at a time.
I will say that TWRP does not seem to like ARHD, but it has worked fine with Revolver, and all the other 4.1 and 4.2 ROMs I have tried.

I use HDMI (without audio so I can't confirm it works), it's overclocked to 1.5GHz and I'm playing 720p mkv scene releases in MX Player without issues. Can't say about Direct Wifi, I don't use that. All on Team EOS's latest 4.2.1 (haven't made the jump to 4.2.2 yet).

Guys, thank you so much for helping out. I will start to check these things out!
Cheers

Thats exactly what im looking for. I have had little success playing 720p mkv on my device with no lag. I upgraded my TF101 last night to cyanogenmod 10 v6 and it worked great for a little while, even playing videos well with little to no lag. I played with it last night for a couple of hours and installed many apps and settings. I powered it down before i went to bed and now it will not get passed the unlock screen. Its completely unresponsive at the lock screen. Any Ideas? Do i need to flash it to another ROM?

Why would you install something as old as RaymanFX's CM10 v0.6?
Running that, I would recommend upgrading to something newer anyway. There has been updates to that CM10-ROM if you prefer something similar (see the nightly builds), and there has been CM10.1 builds which are equally stable and functional.
My CM10.1 is pretty good and does 720p just fine at 1.4GHz

After browsing the web last night for a while, as i am unfamiliar with android customization, i found a few instruction outlines that pointed me to repositories with builds. That was the newest build i could find on those repositories. I realize now that it is old and have learned a lot about the mods.
I will download the one you are suggesting and seeing how that goes. I appreciate your response!
Glad to hear that, that is the one thing that has not pleased me so far with my transformer. I really want to play 720p rips of movies/shows.

[Q] Xoom coming soon, advice on roms

Hello I just ordered a xoom as they have recently been reduced and should receive next week. (it will be a UK 32gb wifi)
I want to root my device so I can overclock and install adblock but I was wondering if I should GEDify my xoom or install a custom rom.
My question is what do you do and why?
Also is it even possible to GEDify a device and keep root (e.g. still receive updates from google)
Any advice much appreciated.

In my opinion, the Team EOS ICS Roms---for your wifi it would be wingray--are superior to stock ICS that is currently available (or will ever be available). The nightly build I have installed now, wingray build #44 with the Eos GApps v 10.3, is super stable, super complete and super functional. 100% recommended.
Thanks okantomi,
I'm definitely going to do this.

Agree with this 100%. My xoom is coming in the next day or so (same spec as the op's) and i have been following the team eos thread daily. The minute i have the xoom ill be installing their ics room and overclocking. From what everyone has said it takes the xoom to the next level.

So far there is a 3G cdma version but the Euro 3G version has not been developed yet. All Eos versions have working GPS.
Update: now the stingray everest umits build is available for the UK/Euro 3G Xooms.
I just got a Xoom (US WiFi) and have tried every ICS Rom and EOS is so far the best. But I can't tell you how great it is when OC'd. Never OC'd before on any device cuz I am still a newb with that. Flashing rooms and backups/restores are easy enough now but for some reason messing with a CPU freaks me out. Like a freshman taking batting practice with the varsity...

If you're interested in OC'ing just take it slow. First thing is do not select "set on boot." You want to make sure it can handle what you're clocking it to before you do something like that.
Anyway, taking it slow. OC it just a bit and play something like Angry Birds. Next, throw in some multitasking. Swap from angry birds to a movie. Now turn it back down to the stock settings and do the same thing. You'll see a difference pretty fast even on the lower OC settings.
Team EOS ICS, no question
Have to agree FWIW, Team Eos have done an awesome job. I used the Wingray nightlies on my UK 3G from about v13 and just switched to the Everest build so the 3G is working now. As far as my requirements are concerned, it's feature complete.
Using the Xoom is smooth as, and after rooting and flashing ICS I've been using it a lot more, where before I had been neglecting it somewhat (this may have something to do with flashing a new ROM most days of course )
Re the overclocking, I'm sure I read in one of the changelogs that the devs had put in a safety switch for the built in overclocking, so even if you set it on boot it'll reset itself if something goes wrong. Haven't found the original info so don't quote me on it , but it's certainly reset the max back to 1Ghz a couple of times after rebooting on mine.
Also, don't forget the nandroid backups when you're mucking around with ROMs, best advice I has as a newcomer to rooting/flashing etc, saved me some hassle a couple of times

ending with custom ROMS, how to get back to stock

Hi. So my problem is, that I've tried almost every custom rom that exists and I thought that Rayman's CM10 will be the last one cause everyone told me that it works totally fine and it's stable. I have to do like 8 restarts per day, cause after a few sleeps the sound goes off, I have slow scrolling, bad reactions of the display. I'm just sick of it and I'm done with all the experiments.
So can anyone link me to some post where I can find how do I get to the Asus stock ICS rom from Rayman's CM10? I'd probably just ROOT it and get drivers for the 3G USB modem and don't do anything else.. I downloaded all the apps I wanted, it took me many hours and I just want something where I don't have to do wipe again.. Something working and stable..
Thanks in advance.
You can get TF101 stock firmwares from the ASUS official website.
and isn't there any problem with the CWM recovery or anything else? can I just install it here?
Last time I reset I flashed latest stock from Asus' then flashed CWM using easyflasher ( showthread.php?t=1688012 ). It also allows for RogueXM that's based on CWM and it provides 1-click root as well.

Seriously, who thinks 4.2.1 is worth the aggravation?

I've read about more bricks than the last time the three little pigs got together to ward off the big bad wolf. Rampant complaints about BT interfering with Wifi; complaints about the new launcher; issues with the tab reading microsd cards (I'm not giving up my 32gb card, no thank you very much).
What I haven't seen is anyone saying, "boy, I'm really happy I flashed 4.2.1."
Would like to hear what I'm missing from folks who are glad they did the deed.
No problems as of yet for me with stock 4.2.1 . I'm more content for now than happy.
I was on Cleanrom 3.3 with a custom kernal from "CleanROM Inheritance Kernels v2.0" oc'ed to 1.6. and running TWRP 2.4.1.0 at the time.
Downloaded 4.2.1 latest firmware from asus downloads Version WW_V10.6.1.8 (ww is suitable for my tf300)
extracted the blob and flashed it with TWRP 2.4.1.0 , didnt wiped Cache or Dalvik Cache.
I'm at fully stock bootloader and firmware v10.6.1.8 now
Everything seems to work ,
Havent used the camera much but but when I did it worked fine
Bluetooth and wireless work flawlessly together, I often watch movies over wireless with bsplayer pro and bluetooth headphones .
I have the dock and both my 32gig SDcard class 10 and 32gig microSD class 10 are working.
Games maybe not as smooth when using the custom overclocked kernal . ie Beach buggy blitz , grabatron , dead trigger
I do miss the slight overclock it had , but I'll patiently wait for the next TWRP and cleanrom update
Yep I agree. Is it really worth an upgrade? I'm running one of the older versions of CROMI and I'm very happy with it. It runs flawlessly. I also use a class 10 32gb sd card which I'm am not willing to give up.
As the release of the newest version of CROMI nears, I'm on the fence as whether or not I really want to go through with the upgrade just yet. I may just decide to wait awhile and see what everyone thinks about it. Time will tell.

I think it's worth it. This is what Android is all about. Update, customize and enjoy.
Asus TF300T, CleanROM Inheritance
It's worth it. I like it better. No hassle or aggravation here. Pure happiness.
I love 4.2.1 everything runs great and CROMI 4.0 is out and works great. I think all the things that make 4.2 is worth the upgrade if nothing else the core of android should be better.
I didn't expect the update to bring much improvements to be honest, but I find it surprisingly good. Loving the lockscreen widgets, camera and keyboard.

Boy, I'm really happy I flashed 4.2.1 and used it for about a week then flashed CROMI 4 last night . this update also proved that Asus is giving good after sales services and tf300t being the first non-nexus device to get 4.2. Those who got bricked are mostly people who didn't flash properly or used the wrong version of recovery or didn't full wipe ~ obviously if you used stock and locked bootloader you'll get 4.2 from OTA and have less chance if brick.
Sent from my ST25a using xda app-developers app
4.2 was great until I made 2 users and now everything seems laggy. Im not sure if having 2 accounts this much stress on the cpu/ram?
Dont know if i would have flashed it if i didnt have nvflash (i need that 4.1 bootloader) but the overall experence wasnt bad, no wifi troubles at all, stock 4.2 launcher is quite smooth (my tf101 with custom 4.2 runs smoother tho )
I really enjoy the 4.2 update, almost everything works flawlessly for me. It also seems more stable and responsive that 4.1.
The only complaint I have is that since updating I no longer receive delta updates from the play store; it is driving me crazy
But all in all, I wouldn't want to go back to 4.1.
I'm doing to downgrade the bootloader to 4.1 and install CM10.1
I'm having random freezes, reboots and extreme battery drain, I tried Stock 4.2.1, CHROMI 4.0, factory reset, etc.
It works ok for some hours, then things go bad.
Before downgrading I left the microsd card out, just for curiosity, and I'm going to testing for a few hours, but I'm not going to stop using the microsd.

[Q] Kernel Question

Hi everyone!
I recently rooted and installed the twrp recovery on my TF101 on stock ics rom.
Now I want to install a custom kernel but I don't know which is the best.
Can anyone help me to find the best solution?
Thanks in advance.
Depends which ROM you're using, KatKernel is a very popular and fast kernel, and TeamEOS4 is a fast ROM too (4.2.2)
Is the EOS rom fully working? What about bugs?
In my signature you can see which rom I am using. It is the latest official in my country.
You're still running ICS, TeamEOS is Jellybean the newest version of Android
There are some bugs, but not as many as stock ICS had
Read the main post with hints and tips and read some of the latest posts about the laetst build, I've been running EOS for a long time and love it, best my TF has ever run
EOS thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063406
If you are not bothered about the latest ROM, EOS3 #81 with KatKernel is a very stable and fast build of Jellybean 4.1.2
Are there any known bugs? I can't find them.
Does the rom come with the kernel integrated? Or do I have to install it manually?
Also I can't find #81. Here http://goo.im/devs/teameos/roms/eos4/nightlies/tf101 the oldest is #82.
The latest 4.2.2 which number is? The last (#109)?
Known bugs are mainly in the comments, as things change with each build
EOS3 #81 is here (EOS4 starts #82)
http://goo.im/devs/teameos/roms/eos3/nightlies/tf101/
All ROMs come with their own kernels, but you generally find the separate kernels are much better than the stock ones, EOS & KatKernel is definitely a good match
There are two branches of EOS4, Nightlies and Previews, you'll find the links to each in post 2 of the EOS4 thread, explanations of each are there too
Personally if you want a 99.99% bug free ROM, try EOS3 #81 & KatKernel #69 and Gapps (Google Apps)
Main bug in EOS4 is lag on the homescreen scrolling
Workaround is Hold power button until menu appears and choose to hide NavBars = Smooth scrolling
So the main bug is just the scrolling! Nice.
I will try firstly the eos4 and then the other if the first has bugs.
Should I keep their kernel? Or do you recommend to flash another?
I want the rom to be stable because some days I leave it to my mother to play angry birds and I don't want it to get stuck. :/
On my hands it can be a bit laggy
Yea the main issue is just slightly laggy scrolling but it only affects the homescreens, inside app draw or any other app it is very smooth
I suggest KatKernel with any TeamEOS ROM, #103 is the latest for EOS4
http://downloads.timduru.org/android/tf101/K.A.T/kernel/Tim_KatKernel_103_JB4.2_Lidpatch.zip
#69 is the latest for EOS3

Man in the download page of eos4 the 109 seems to be the latest version as it says 20th of April. The 103 says 26th of March. Are you sure that 103 is the latest?
I installed the 109 nightly. Now testing. Seems to have an issue with video playback. The same file that was playing with the stock rom, now says "the video cannot be played".
#109 Nightly is the latest ROM
#103 KatKernel is the latest KatKernel
KatKernel is a much better kernel than stock
Clear cahce and dalvik cache, Flash the ROM, then clear both caches, then flash the Kernel and clear caches again, then flash Gapps and clear caches again, then reboot, that's how I always do it
MX Video Player & ARMv7 Codecs Pack plays just about anything for me, you might need to switch to software decoding when the video fails to play using hardware decoding though, same with certain audio tracks if you get no sound on the video
Grab the Kat Audio enhancer app too, that has a load of goodies for EOS4

Google has changed on Android 4.2 for tablets. You can share a tablet with others. If you create a second user. It will bring you to the setup just like a new device. For example if you installed a custom launcher on first user, it will not appear on the second. So all homescreen customizations, apps and also accounts will be seperated.

[Q] Rom advise please

Hi Guys,
I have just brought a TF700, and I have set up 3 user profiles, but it is very unstable even after i have disabled all of the unused apps.
From what I have been reading it would appear my best option is to put a custom rom on it.
Now i have achieved this kind of thing in the past as I put Android on a HTC HD2 many moons ago.
I currently have a HTC One and i love the OS on that which is 4.3, so i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a 4.3 Rom that is fairly close to what i have on the HTC One for my TF700.
Thanks in advance
You didn't say which rom you put on your HTC
CM 10.2 emulates JB 4.3, I believe Paranoid and OMNI ROM also have 4.3 versions, but most of the devs seem to have moved on to KitKat (CM11), but it still seems to be somewhat buggy and slow at this point.

Thanks for coming back.
I haven't changed anything on my HTC One at moment because I am more than happy with how it is performing.
I will take a look, but once again thanks.
I have been looking at various threads, but I am still a bit undecided on which way to go.
Anyone else that has wanted to update to 4.3 have any tips or advise for me?
I wouldnt mind eventually going down the 4.4 route, but as I have only just got the tablet - I would firstly like to flash it to something more stable than it currently is.
Many Thanks
What really could help to speed up your TF700t is a factory restart.
For me it was really helping a lot .... even if i am right now "only" on rooted stock FW.
Try this as well.

I have only just brought it, and it was back to factory default, but I did it agin before puting all my apps that I wanted on.
And it was very slow and unstable then, but I then disabled all of the preinstalled apps that I didnt want to use, and it is better, but because I have heard that 4.3 does use less memory I still think it would be worth a try.

Anyone else that has wanted to update to 4.3 have any tips or advise for me?
I wouldnt mind eventually going down the 4.4 route, but as I have only just got the tablet - I would firstly like to flash it to something more stable than it currently is.
Many Thanks

I am not sure why you think 4.3 is so much better than 4.2.1. AFAIK that was not a major update or improvement....
If you are looking for a fast and totally stable rom for this tablet, go for CROMi-X! It's based on the Asus firmware 4.2.1 for this tablet, so everything is optimized for THIS device. CM roms are generic. They run a on a multitude of devices - that's why you have more bugs and conflicts

I was under the impression that 4.3 used less memory?

Not that I'm aware of. It was a pretty minor upgrade. Kit Kat 4.4 offers far more interesting features.
Plenty of google results out there:

Thats fair enough.
I have to admit I like the look of the 4.3 more, but decided to upgrade to the CROMi-X one, and then wait for the 4.4 - which I did last night and I am very impressed - it is loads smoother.
So Thanks for your advise.

Nahhh - only tried it as ROM2SD. And it's still sleeping on some of my sd cards.
I was not impressed. CM didn't add anything but eye candy (I didn't care for) and I think by now CROMi-X in conjunction with Xposed modules (if you care for those and the performance hit they come with) gives you way more options to customize this tablet than CM.... not even mentioning your tweaks!

I am happy with Cromi for now. I may try some new roms to test them out in the future when I have time..

Yeah - and that will be like: Never ??? LOL
I ordered the TF701 yesterday and once I got it set up as my daily driver, I'm prepared to test the hell out of this tablet. Should be fun to have a tablet just to play with (and nvflash blobs safely squared away)

CROMi-X is just the nickname for CROMi-Xenogenesis (who wants to write that all the time???). CROMi 3.5 would be just a minor step up from what yo got now...
Latest and greatest version of CROMi-X is 5.2.4. But you are on an outdated bootloader and no doubt an old recovery.
So head over to the CROMi-X thread, grab the bootloader/TWRP package sbdags provided in the OP and download the rom (dl both to your microSD)
Boot into TWRP and do a Factory Wipe - that will wipe your apps, but not your data (but you got everything backed up anyway, right????)
Flash the bootloader/TWRP package and reboot
Boot back into TWRP and flash the ROM
