I am having a really weird issue with these. So, sometimes all is working fine and then suddenly (after a reboot or even after unlocking the screen) the capacitive lights stop working (or don't go off at all if I unlock again) and the auto brightness does not work. I restart, take battery out, power on and nothing happens. Tried different ROMS (ARHD, DarkSense, stock one), different kernels (Sebastian, Faux, Sultan's) and the same happens. Everything is working fine and then suddenly it just doesn't. Even today I wiped everything on my phone, flashed ARHD with faux's kernel that it includes and all was awesome. Installed my apps, my games, restored the save games with titanium and was good. Rebooted, took battery out, power on again and all was fine. Did some benchmark, all good. Then I did a nandroid just in case it fails again. After that, I played a bit on the phone and copied some albums to sdcard I was impressed how it was lasting so long without everything to break again. Then I rebooted and everything started again. I rebooted and after the screen went off (not completely, I could see some light on it still) the capacitive lights stayed on for like 15s or so. After they went off, I took battery off and powered on the phone and guess what? Capacitive lights don't work neither does auto brightness. Formatted sdcard, fixed permissions, rebooted and nothing once again.
I shall say that capacitive lights work all the time while in recovery mode.
I am running out of options to try and to see what is wrong here. Here goes some options:
1- Battery. My battery does not last long at all. It's really weak and if it lasts like 8h with normal/low using is too much. I plan in buying a Anker battery to improve this.
2- Software. Is this possible? Because I tried with 3 different ROM's, 3 different kernels and all happens. Unlikely.
3- Hardware. Light sensor broken + capacitive lights or some connection? Really unlikely, imo. If it was like that they would be always off and not power on when on recovery mode. Plus, sometimes after I fix permissions/format sdcard all works good.
4- Sdcard. Perhaps it's faulty? I have 2 more but can't try them now, just on friday.
5- USB cable? No idea...
6- ???????
7- You name it.
PS: While writing this post I rebooted into recovery, formated sdcard and fixed sdcard filesystem with the phone just on battery. Ater that, took battery off, power on and nothing. Then, I took battery off, rebooted into recovery, connect the phone to the power socket to charge, formated sdcard, fixed card filesystem, fixed permissions, took battery off, reboot and...gues what. It is working. All is working good. This is a ****ed up issue, I guess and I think all points to battery, for some reason. Any help here? Thank you!
EDIT: Just copied some music albums again to sdcard and after that switched off the phone. Took battery off, powered on and everything stopped working again. This while on battery. Power phone off again, connected to the power socket and turned it on again. Does not work. Disconnected the cable, rebooted into recovery and formated sdcard. Rebooted and...it works. What the hell? Next: copied an album to phone. Disconnected it properly in Windows and waited on phone for sdcard to be mounted. Reboot while on battery...and it works.
Any clue?

Hi there,
I'm having an issue with the my XT720 and hopefully someone can help, or has at least seen something similar. When the phone goes unused for a minute and the screen times out, I can not get it to come back on as expected. If I press the power button, the lights under the four buttons power on, but the screen stays off, and both the screen and buttons don't respond to being touched (ie no noise, no feedback, nothing). If I hold the power button down, it will not stop or start, and I have to do a battery pull (the phone has not been rooted). If I press the power button to lock the phone manually, it can come back to life, but not after a timeout.
This started happening when I replaced the sd card that was included with a new one. I've had occasional issues where it will decide that I don't have an sd card inserted (also fixed by a few battery pulls), so I figured time to get a new / faster sd card. The new one has worked fine in my PC to store data, but once I put it in the phone, this happens.
If I switch back to the old sd card, the screen problem goes away. I've tried formatting the sd card from the phone (as well as from my pc), and it doesn't help.
Any ideas or input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Brandon
I had a similar unpredictable problem. I'm not sure what the core of the problem is but sometimes I suspected the SD-card as you did.
Sometimes the phone didn't show up the display even after a battery pull out. The thing that always helped in MY case was to pull out the battery for 1 hour and the problem disappeared for 1-2 months...
Hope this will help.
did you in anyway modify your phone? that includes rooting etc
i had this problem before but it stopped after i cleared my davik cache and it re populated the directory after i rebooted it. worse case scenario, you might want to try reflashing it.
I've not modified it at all. No rooting, no flashing, nothing. And I'm not keen to reflash it as it's from Wind in Canada, and there is no Wind rom posted. I know others are compatible, but I suspect it would make it harder to get warranty service if it has a BrightPoint rom on it (though I guess I should check the build number and see if it's the same).
I (occasionally) have the same problem. I, on the other hand, have had this issue since I bought the phone back in August of 2010. My phone is rooted, sometimes overclocked, and running standard android 2.1update1. What happens to my phone is that it is in lock mode and I press the lock button and all that happens is the 4 buttons below the screen illuminate but the screen itself does not. To solve it, I do a battery pull and it is back to normal. I don't know specifically what causes it because apparently this problem is also happening in unrooted XT720's. BTW I have never changed my SD card from the 8GB one that came with the phone.
I hate to hear about this issue but I'm glad I'm not the only one having it. I just got my XT711 a few days ago and the screen has done the same thing a few times to me also. I know 1-2 times I just picked up my phone and it did it, another time was when my camera froze, and once even when I paused Angry Birds game until the screen shut off, that time when I pushed the lock/ power button the 4 bottom lights came on and I could here the sounds from my game but my screen was blank. Hasn't done it in a couple of days, so hopefully it just had the flu! If anyone finds out what it is, let me know also because I've seen people with all models of XT phones having it.
Try another SD Card
Thank you, yes I have a new class 10 sd card ordered, so hopefully that cures the problem
Over the last couple of days I have been having an issue with the sensation. I can boot up the phone and have full access to the boot loader.
The problem occurs when I leave the phone in standby for a while. The phone will become un-responsive and wont turn ont at all.
I was running the latest RCMix rom and everything was fine. I then decided to install j4n87's tweaks I know it is for a newer base but I just wanted to try it. Ever since I installed the tweaks the phone hangs when the screen is turned off.
I have tried full wipe and reinstall of everything but cant fix the issue.
Even noticed that if I pull the battery and power it back on the screen will stay black. You can hear sounds see button lights and power light but nothing on the screen. It then takes a couple of attempts of using adb reboot to get the screen to come back on again.
Any Ides.
Just tried flashing stock rom fro ruu same issue.
Edit 1:
Hmm I am wondering is my SD card causing the issue. With it in the phone when the phone is on stand by the freeze will occur in a couple of minutes. On the stock rom with the SD card out I am able to leave the phone in stand by for 10+ minutes and it is waking with out any issues. I will try it with ICS to see how it behaves.
Edit 2:
Interesting: it does look as if it is the SD card causing the problem. I restored my RCMix ICS rom and left the card out of the phone, with the phone on. I left it on standby for half an hour and it woke up with out any issues. Looks as if I could be getting a new SD card!
I've seem to have fixed a friend phone as it was registering all touches, but was wondering if anyone can tell me what happened. I didn't have to open the phone.
Kept the power button pressed to force-off the phone, but it reboots.
Took battery out, put it back in, powered phone on, touch interface worked for a few seconds than stopped.
Took battery out, put it back in, started phone in maintenance mode (Stock ROM) and formatted cache.
Rebooted phone and without delay selected options to power down the phone normally. Now, as the phone was shutting down it vibrated 3 times as opposed to once. What does this mean?
Turned on the phone and the touch interface now works fine
Again powered down the phone and this time it vibrated once as opposed. What does this mean?
Since then it appears that the phone is working fine. My friend even mentioned it's working a bit quicker.
I don't fully understand what's happened to make the phone work. The significant thing is as the phone was powering off it vibrated three times at the moment of power-off.
Sorry if I've asked in the wrong thread. Not sure where to ask this question. The "General" forum seemed to be the appropriate place.
Hello all,
Today my Verizon S6 (on CleanRom 1.5) started to keep rebooting. After it boots, I can use the phone for less than a minute until it reboots again.
Here's how it began to happen today, if it helps.
- I didn't plug my phone to a charger last night, and when I woke up the phone had like 0%~1% battery. The phone died soon after I picked up the phone.
- At the same time I turned on the phone, I connected it to the stock charger.
- I used it for like 1-2 minutes, and the phone seemed to get confused whether it should die again or not (at 0% battery level)
- Then the phone decided to die again, and keeps rebooting itself.
My guess is something related to booting, initializing, or battery might have gone wrong. Also the soft button lights get never turn on.
Now I cannot use the phone really, as it dies like 30 seconds after I swipe the lockscreen.
- I tried to boot into safe mode, it didn't help.
- I wiped cache partition, it didn't help either.
The last thing I would like to try is to odin CleanRom again (or factory reset) but I would like to try other things first because I cannot even backup the data as it keeps rebooting. Odin will wipe all the data in my phone.
Any help or suggestions guys?

The OE2 tar file shouldn't wipe your phone as it is not a full wipe tar. I don't know if your phone would do it with it's reboot problem but a dirty flash of clean rom shouldn't wipe your phone either. However, a reboot during the middle of either of those would not be good. Flashfire does seem to be able to keep a phone from rebooting once it gets going or at least it has for me when I have been caught in a bad way before.
Problem Solved!!!
Thank you Tulsadiver for your suggestions. But is it okay to do odin without wiping anything?
I almost gave up after struggling several hours and thought about doing a factory reset, but the problem is solved now.
I found it weird that the soft key lights never turn on, so I thought that there might have been something wrong with the power management. So I turned the ultra power saving mode on (fortunately the phone didn't reboot before I did that), and it didn't reboot itself. I turned it back off then now the problem is gone!
I am happy with it now, and this might be one of the things to try if you experience a random reboot.
I've been using HTC U11 Plus as my main phone since the day it came out. I absolutely love this phone. In my opinion it's the best phone I've ever had. I never felt the need to get a new phone. I've been gaming, working, etc. and I never had any issue with it.
Two days ago all of a sudden while using my phone it got stuck. None of the button were working and the screen also had response so I pressed and hold the Power button and Volume Down button to boot into recovery mode. So i could clear cache and reboot again but my phone doesn't seem to reboot. It just turns off when I select reboot now. I even tried "Wipe data/factory reset from the Recovery menu options" and then delete all user data option and then Reboot system now to restart your phone. Still no luck. As soon as I press on reboot system my phone just turns off and doesn't reboot or turn on at all.
Even when I put my phone on charging there is not light to indicate that my phone is charging at all.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Same problem here... Screen flashed white, phone rebooted to encryption screen to enter pin, then powered off... Hasn't been back on since (thins happened in October 2021).
I'm interested in a possible way to get the data off the phone, even if some parts swapping is involved.
PS. I changed the battery thinking it was that, but the phone still isn't coming on or showing the red battery charging light.
I guess it is time for you both to use ADB. When installed properly you should be able to see your phone in device manager on Windows systems. That in itself would be a good starting point. Or just fire up ADB and check if ADB detects your phone. If you are unfamiliar with ADB, Google it.
In ADB use: *.\adb devices* (without the *) If it works properly you should get a return with a device number. You could then flash a boot image or system image or both and see if your phone start's up again.
Hello,
same Issue here.
Solution is to heat up the Phone above 50°C and hold the temperature while it run and copy Data.
I have spend 40h+ to Backup Data and heat up the Phone.
Seems for me to the same problem like the RROD at Xbox360.
