S-Off and ImageChip - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Now that we all have s-off (well, all can) would it be possible to port the Sense camera to non-Sense ROMs and use the ImageChip? Or is that a separate issue?

S-off will give us write permission basically any partition, lets say to be able to flash radios etc.
Sense camera and the image chip needs sense framework aka a sense rom. we will never see it unless HTC is going crazy and release their sources what they won't.

The imagechip uses closed source firmware and drivers. Unless someone somehow reverse engineered the chip (unlikely) or HTC released their source (extremely unlikely) then it's not possible.

[Q] Kernel 3.x for Desire S ROMs ?

Hi,
I've been reading here and there discussions about Kernel 3.0 sources not being released yet by HTC.
Someplace else someone spoke about future release of 3.x kernel source for Sensation.
My question is, can we expect someday a 3.0 kernel on alternate ROMs for Desire S ?
If such thing happens, can we expect improvements, especially in Open SL-ES (real low-latency audio) ?
Thx!
Isn't 3.x Honeycomb? So I guess you mean 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich). There are no official Roms out yet and afaik there is no official statement if the Desire S will get it or not. But there are custom ICS roms in the the development section. But if you want to test them I suggest you get more info about all the flashing stuff in this forum, to be sure you don't mess anything up.

No I really meant kernel version.
Currently Desire S has 2.6.35(.8?).
heard there's a plan at HTC to release kernel 3.0 sources for -some- devices, so i'm wondering if we can expect a 3.0 kernel to land on DS roms.
Yes he's talking about kernel version 3.0. We probably won't see it for a while. AT LEAST until the first sense 4.0 device is released

Is it a sure fact that HTC will release kernel 3.0 sources after Edge / Ville /... start shipping, or just an assumption ?

An assumption. But if i'm correct HTC must release the kernel source code to comply with GPL. I think it also has to release it due to the fact that android is open source which pretty much ties in with GPL.

Official ICS RUU, Radio upgrade, HBOOT upgrade

So, the official ICS RUU upgrade is here. I've had some experience with various custom ICS roms, and I found that I love Sense (3.6) and ICS.
Reading the prerequisites and other documentation got me thinking. I hope you guys can answer my questions, or some of them.
1. What does the ICS RUU have over custom ICS roms? I can't imagine anything, except for an updated radio perhaps?
This will help me determine whether I may get the ICS RUU or stay on a custom rom.
2. The prerequisite is having the HBOOT 2.00.2002 bootloader. Plenty links and instructions for backupping and flashing that, that will work.
However, *why* is is necessary to update it? Something to do with the size of the ICS RUU, which leads me to believe that the HBOOT 2.00.2002 is much smaller than my current alpharev 6.98.1002 HBOOT. But AFAIK (in general) bootloaders are quite small..
3. Are the any advantages to the HBOOT 2.00.2002 bootloader? Besides being to install the ICS RUU.
4. Since I'm thinking of updating other parts of my phone besides the OS itself (HBOOT, see point 2) I got thinking about the radio too.
My radio is version RADIO-3805.06.02.03_M
I have very poor reception in some parts of the country where I regurarly am (many weekends per year). Updating to the latest official Radio may give me better reception. Updating to what HTC considers the best radio firmware seems like a good idea, right?
Is this the wrong forum to ask these questions?

Let's see... no need to go the X-Clip route to root your phone, just do an unlock and that's it.
You should do your research first as almost all has already been answered.
1. ICS that came out is official from HTC. That means its more stable, faster, and less buggy from their eyes. And may also be true if compared to other Custom ROMs. Its a matter of preference and ROM testing to see the differences.
2. The untouched ICS ROM also works for HBOOT v2.00.002 (came from Sense 3.0 release, Gingerbread). The HBOOT v2.02.002 (came from Sense 3.6 release, Ice Cream Sandwich) is an updated version of the latter. There maybe great changes, or maybe not. I have not seen any changelog from the net. Based on my experience, HBOOT from ICS does not want the System/Lib partition to be formatted via ROM flash from recovery. But the HBOOT from the GB can.
3. Not known yet. See number 2.
4. Yes and no. Yes, because HTC wants you to use the radio that is included from the RUU as they see fit that that is the best for its ROM. No, because some ROMs or its developers, same as HTC, prefers certain radios to be used, that is if you plan to use custom ROMs. Regarding your reception, the Desire S has already been found to have a lesser or weaker reception compared to other phones. Even older Nokia phones sometimes are better from it. Depends on your area as well.

Ehm, how is that even an example? Those mods mostly change audio config files more than anything else. But look at it theother way - Why Beats wasn't successfully ported to AOSP/CM yet?
Sense is a closed sourced version of android. It need HTC closed sourced drivers and framework files.

[TOOL] Touch-Screen Recalibration Tool

Feeling that your phone touch responsiveness/accuracy is...?
I thought this might be useful for some users.
So here it is, the NBH touch recalibrator tool;
Having seen some users confirm that it does work, I decided to open a thread for it and have it shared.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Download the NBH file from the provided link, and place it on root of your SD Card.
Then boot into bootloader, you will see it searches for these kinds of update/diag tools and detects it; you have to follow the on-screen instructions afterwards.
It is not a bad idea to make a nandroid, just in case...
CAUTION : THIS PROCESS WILL WIPE YOUR DATA, NO BACKUP RESTORATION IS RECOMMENDED EITHER. I SUGGEST PERFORMING IT RIGHT BEFORE BOOTING A NEWLY FLASHED ROM.

Did you know that HTC Sensation was the one capable of running HTC Sense 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, 4.0, 4.1, 4+, and 5 even though official support was stopped at 3.6?! Have you ever seen such an ability in any other device from any other manufacturer?!
How sure you are about that statement? "NO BACKUP RESTORATION IS RECOMMENDED EITHER"
I mean, why is not recommended to restore? Sources?

Well, it may cause boot loop, so you should perform a full wipe as well, then it will work.
Plus, when it wipes data itself, it is certainly based on a known tip, I have not created it, but maybe it does something in data that is to be wiped before.
I have only RECOMMENDED. You may try as you want.

Is this a generic file that will work with any capacitive Android phone that can see an nbh file or only the Sensation? I have a HTC G1 (Dream) that could benefit from a tool like this.

[Q] jtag returned this week and now s-off

hi
after my flashing exploits and managing to brick my htc one xl i am a little weary of messing around with it this time
last time i was trying to achieve s-off and corrupted the boot and image
managed to get it repaired and it has come back with custom recovery and is now s-off
is it true that sense 5 has been officially released?
my htc used to be on Asia htc006
the guy fixing it has installed custom recovery for me
can i run a ruu to take me to sense 5 ? or should i just install a custom rom?
thanks in advance
Sense 5 has been officially released. No need to run an RUU or anything, just flash one of the Sense 5 ROMs from our development section here. There are a few to choose from, ranging from completely stock to custom features. They're all based on the official update though.

ps thanks for the reply
They shouldn't matter. Some users experience signal drops and reboots on those ROMs though, which can be fixed by either flashing the Beastmode kernel or updating the firmware to the 2.15 version.

It would have taken you about 5 seconds to look in the Development section, and any number of other threads, and answer that question for yourself.
As mentioned, no need to run the RUU, and I'm not even sure RUUs are available for Sense 5 ROMs yet, anyway.
