Are 30-pin connectors more durable than microUSB?
I doubt it. Wireless charging and data transfer are the best solutions in that regard when it comes to hardware wear and tear.

I haven't frequently used a30- pin, but my Kindle Fire charger (got it a month after release) plus my phone charger (waaay older than my KF) are still fine while my brother's 30 pin connector is falling apart. I'd day micro USB cords ate more durable.

Every 30 pin connector I've had has broken, while I've only broken one micro usb so I think that speaks for itself.

I really haven't had any issues with either myself. Though the 40 pin connector for my Tf101 tablet does look a lot worse for wear than my usb phone charger.

Hello everyone,
I can't find my wall charger. I had to charge my phone so I used a wall charger for my tablet. The charger's output is 5v-2amp. The oem charger's output is 5v-1amp.
My question is will my temporary charger have any negative effects on my phone since it charges 1amp higher than the oem charger?
It shouldn't. My friend used his iPad charger for his iPhone long term. It didn't have any negative effects on it.
Edit: all it did was make it charge faster. An it did have a different voltage and amperage output than his iPhone charger..

Depending on the internal circuit of HOX, it may or may not harm your phone. iDevices are pretty good at operating with other iDevice accessory and may have circuits built to prevent damage. Check if it gets very hot - if true, don't use it.

USB is a universal plug designed for up to 2 amp at 5v... Typically the phone (or device) will only draw as much as it's a capable of handling... But I concur with the above post, if you think is getting to hot just charging, probably stop...

I agree about the charging faster and this reminded me of an article that I had read recently. Check this out:

I use my touch pad charger to charge my one x. It charges a lot faster. No negative effects.

Amazon Kindle chargers work as well as OE HTC chargers, and the cable is longer. I bought a couple of the $.01 chargers from Amazon for my Inspire 4G, and while they worked, the official HTC ones charged faster. When I got the HOX, the cheap chargers would charge for a bit, but then stop. So I picked up an extra Kindle charger and it works great!

+1, also use my kindle charger for my HOX, much longer than the stock HTC cable and charges just as fast.
I charge my Kindle with my HTC One X charger and I charge my HTC One X with my Kindle charger.
My car dock is attached to a 2.1A charger, no extra heat and no other obvious negative affects.
so literally a few minutes ago i plugged in my charger into the wall and smoke came out of the microusb(the one i got with the phone) side and then from smoking went to burning, i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem.
Can you tell if the end that started smoking was damaged? Is there a chance two wires crossed causing a short circuit? I have personally not heard of that problem on any phone, but have seen it on miscellaneous equipment throughout my life due to short circuit.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
yea
the tip of the microusb is burned and some on the back there is a black burn spots.
USB cables they supply with phones are usually crap. Thanks for the reminder, unplugged mine and replaced it with a good one I got from Monoprice. I'd keep an eye on it though if you use another cable to be sure the charger didn't cause it.
The voltage in your plug might be too high... it could have been a faulty cable

yea im going to replace the cable and the charger just to be safe.
I purchased my S3 off of eBay and received it today; only to realize that my charging cable is a generic wall charger. Can I buy a different charger at walmart that will allow me to plug my phone into my computer? Like this charging cable I used for my Rezound?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You can use that htc >>micro usb cable<< to plug into your computer. If is the wall adaptor charger output is 5V and 1.0A, you can use it to charge the phone. If is a little less amps, it should be fine, but takes alittle longer to charge.
I tried plugging that USB cable into the S3 and it didn't seem to want to fit, so I stopped before I damaged something. Try again?
Edit: it was a no go. Can I purchase a micro usb cable from Wal-Mart for this? I'm in dire need of a cable to let me plug my phone into the computer

Your Rezound cable (and any other micro USB cable) should work in the S3. Take a close look at the shape of the connector port and make sure you are lining the cable up properly. In my experience, the S3 can be a bit more finicky than other handsets in how you line up the cable while inserting it into the port.
I picked up a dual port USB vehicle charger at staples the other day, one of the bullet style ones.
I have also ordered a 1 foot micro usb cable from New Egg to use in my vehicle so I do not have 3 feet of cord to deal with.

You can bascially pick up any micro usb cable and it should work with your phone. If you have another one laying around the house, you can use that one too or go to Wal-Mart and pick one up.
Do try what g0thm0g suggested first though.
The one of MANY wonderful things of not owning an iphone :good:
I use my Dinc 2's cable all the time with my S3. Try flipping the cable upside down when you put it in the S3. At least on my HTC phone (and my N7,come to think of it), the longer side went on top. On the S3 it goes on the bottom.

I need an extra USB cable for charging my N4 in my car because I use a Scosche dual USB charger 2.1 amp. Will any USB cable be fine like the one in the link below or should I be looking for anything specific? I don't want something to mess up my N4 battery.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd like to get a couple extra USB wall chargers and micro USB cables to go with them. I'd like it to be as efficient and safe as possible for my Nexus 4 as well as friends that may need a charger. (N4 taking priority here)

Well as long as the power supplied is 5V (the usb standard) and under 1.2 amp (the output of the factory wall adaptor) you should be safe not burning out your phone. If you are just asking about a usb to micro usb cable then it shouldn't matter since the cable should supply the right voltage anyways.

The phone will only take the amps that it needs. I would get a 2A+ charger to be on the safe side.

Actually used it for my Nexus 7 and when I got my Nexus 4 I always used it for that. Never even bothered opening up my stock charger or cable. Dual port is nice if you want to charge 2 devices at 1 amp each without having a bunch of chargers plugged in.

Woah! Thanks man! I've been looking everywhere for this! Haha
I love the OEM USB Cable, especially cause it fits with all of my cases.
I would love to get the OEM charger, but after my current one acting up (usb wire for some reason keeps making it say usb charging despite being plugged into wall outlet), I'm cautious.

This is one of the reasons I bought the oem charger. Had the ac/usb issue. Changed wires and still does that. Used my gnex charger and it didn't give me problems. So I said it must be the charger itself. Bought the new one and now I'm confident when plugging my phone in. No more issues on the ac/usb charging thing

Hmm... for me, I changed the wires and it works. I think I would rather just save the $10 and put it towards the "wheneveritisreleased" Wireless Charging Orb.....or the TYLT VU when it comes out in April.
Hi guys, I have a few micro USB chargers lying around. Just wondering if using these would harm my N4:
12 V, 500mA
5 V, 2.1 A
5 V, 1.9 A
5 V, 1 A
The 12 V 500mA charger makes my phone's screen go haywire (applications opening and closing by themselves) but it does charge the phone.

at least you narrowed it down fast to the wire. in my case after swapping just the wires it was still the same. then when i used the original n4 charger on my gnex, my gnex suddenly had the ac/usb charging issue. my problem with not getting another charger was i sometimes charge both phones at the same time so i needed one more. good thing a couple of searches led me to the buychina site and now all works well.
I am very interested in this topic as I believe I'm going to need a new USB > MicroUSB cable. My cat accidentally knocked off my N4 while it was charging using the original cable/charger. While it seems the charger itself is okay, the cable is what I am worried about. The end seems slightly bent and, while it will plug into the N4 (which will report charging) it doesn't go as "easily". From visual inspection I think the problem is with the cable's microUSB end; I really hope that the N4's socket itself is not bent/damaged in anyway, but I cannot see any visual signs thereof.
I was really hoping to pick up another OEM charging kit, but it appears that (assuming they are legit ) that one can only find them on Taobao/ChinaBuy as linked above? I was hoping Amazon would have them. With this in mind, will there be anything specific to look for finding another "USB to MicroUSB cable" from Amazon to use with the existing, undamaged OEM charger? Thanks.
I'm no expert but I believe there shouldn't be any issue of you get a different cable. I've used an HTC, Samsung and Asus calls with the LG charger and there aren't any issues. If it's just the cable you need, go with Amazon. It'll be faster

Great, thanks. It seems logical that all "USB A > MicroUSB B" cables should be capable of the same thing, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something that would say, impair my ability to use this cable for not only charging with the OEM wall charger, but charging from my PC's USB ports, connecting to said PC via USB Debugging for rooting/flashing etc...

DUDE!!!! The 12V charger can KILL your phone.. The phone is designed for 5volts..
As long as the charger supplies 5 volts it is okay... even a 10 amp charger will work fine (if availiable ).. The current is controlled by the device (nexus 4 in this case).. It will draw how much current it requires.. Voltage on the other hand is decided by the charger.... 12volts will fry the device...

Oops, thanks for this heads up! I've used the 12V charger for weeks without any noticeable damage (though the screen goes haywire when it is plugged in). I'll switch to the original N4 charger now.
I would like a 6' cable to charge my tablet, I ordered one and it will do data transfer but will not charge unless the tablet is turned off. I tried an extension and got the same result when used with my factory charger/cable. Would an adapter work?

Probably due to the voltage drop on the longer cables. This would not be as bad if the tablet is powered off.

I don't think so, It will work with good efficacy ,
Because with the increase of length , resistance of the current will increase too...
I suggest you not to play with your gadgets,
Try to purchase some new adapter from authentic Samsung shop, with big length of wire
Got a couple of 3 meter long charge cables off a once a day site. Work brilliantly for power but not so good for data... Only a few $ too..
I will just order a few adapters as I have a few heavy guage 6' micro sd cables and I only want it for charging .
These sure are picky about the cables.
I purchased this 6ft cable from a local store and it charges wonderfully.
