Has anyone found a longer Data Cable or Extension that allows for proper charging? I have tried several after-market cables and extensions and in all cases charging slowed to a crawl. When checked with Current Widget, the charging milliamps cut by 60% with every cable I have tried.
currently having the smae problem bought this cable of of amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EAEQR4 and while icon indicates its charging, % is not going up at all, mayb 1% per hour or so... am ready to return it, but want to know if anyone else is experiencing similiar problems with a longer cable
Look for a N1 charging cable on Ebay. That thing works well. Charges faster and has a pretty good length.
Depending on what length you are looking for I may have a solution.
I am currently using the 10ft from monoprice and it works fine.

Ive been using a MT4G charger and a USB extension I found laying around my house since I got my sensation and I havent had any charging issues at all. The extension does look to be of quality though. Its not some tiny wired thing. Im also using the USB cable that came with my old MT4G. All of my sensations stock accessories are still un opened in the box.

I am using Samsung cable i think its 6ft long cable, charge phone very fast no problem.
Monoprice is always the way to go. Superbly high quality cables at a very good price. Almost every cable in my house from CAT to HDMI to Coaxile to XLR has been purchased from there and they function without a hitch.

So I broke my Optimus One LG original charger, and I can't find an original LG charger anywhere! I've gone through two local chargers, but they don't last more than two weeks with me.
Would another company's phone's Micro USB charger be alright for my phone? Any specific company or phone which would best suit the Optimus One?
I'm asking because I used to think all Micro USB chargers are the same, but the local ones used to screw my touchscreen up if they were plugged into my phone for 30 mins or so.
A generic USB charger is fine. The way the phone is wired in side determines if it is going to pull 3volts or 5 volts from the usb charger. If you were trying to charge an Ipad then you need to find a high output charger. I've been using my HTC usb charger and Ipad charger on my OP and it has been charging fine.
That's the beauty of Europe mandating phones have the micro usb chargers. No Vasaline required when you need to buy a new charger and cable.
Androids are sensitive to chargers, but any half decent MicroUSB charger should see you through. (The roadside ones don't qualify as half decent ofc )
I carry my Kindle charger usually since it's very compact and many Indian buildings have moved to sockets that take both Indian and American plugs, and it works fine with the phone.

Im just using a moto cable and a blue ant wall plug, now It charges fine, but I used my friends microusb bb charger, and it pumps out more power. Are there cables wired diffrently?
Sent From My P-509 With Xda Premium App
blackberry chargers and moto chargers have the data pins shorted in the charger themselves. This is because they have have high speed/low speed charging detection system (as do most android phones now).
If the data pins are shorted, the charging rate is up to 1000ma, without the data pins shorted, many phones limit the charging rate to 500ma. This is to keep the phone from shorting out USB ports on computers by drawing too much power through them. The wall adapters that require separate USB cables don't always have that, or they limit the power output to about 750ma. The dozen or so smartphones in my office require about 700ma to operate, so the effective charge rate is +50ma, which takes FOREVER to charge.
I took an old 5v 1200ma wall wart from a router and cut the end off and soldered on a USB connecter (with the data pins shorted) now I can plug use those multi-plug extendable USB cables for charging any kind of phone just by putting in the right adapter tip. My P509TN will charge from dead to 100% in just over an hour.

I have the LG original charger, but everynight I use a Samsung charger near my bed, because it has the wire longer, but you can't separate it to do a usb wire. Anyway I only use it for charging in the night. I think every charger that fit your jack is fine. Like everything in this world, if it fits, then it's ok.

Does anyone know of a good car charger? You know, the kind that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket.

In my opinion... I have wasted alot of $ on trying to get away cheap on a car charger. By far the best one is the official verizon one. It charges to 100% from 0 in less than 2hrs and charges while I am navigating, wifi tethering and using bt at the same time. Well worth the extra cash.

I got a similar one, but it has one port meant for an ipad/tablet, which outputs 2A - that is helpful for when I am running car navigation and wifi hotspot at the same time. I also had to get a charging-only usb cable because regular cables would trigger usb storage mode on the phone.

To bad the Charge won't draw more than ~0.8A... Also, it is the charger causing the phone to go to mass storage mode, not the cable. A microUSB cable is a microUSB cable, and if the cable says "charging only" they have the data pins shorted out (I believe that's what is done) and it really isn't fixing the root cause of the issue.

The only way you could speed up charging would be to modify it via the kernel, or try to force load a module that does the same thing. Odds are the fastcharger script just gets the system to recognize USB charging as a wall charger. Either way, I wouldn't recommend using anything that says it'll make your phone charge faster unless there was SIGNIFICANT data to support the claim as well as evidence that it doesn't harm the hardware.
Charging the battery too fast is very dangerous too. I tried "supercharging" one of my batteries and it almost caught fire.

It could be the cable, but the odds are against that. The way to tell if it was the cable would be to try it in another AC charger to see what it does.

Samsung smartphones and Tablets charge in std mode (Charging USB) unless the two data wires are "shorted". (I have seen it done directly in a high speed charge only cable or in the Samsung chargers. Some say they use a resistor.) When the data pins are "shorted", Samsung switches to high speed charging. (Charging AC). I have been harassing a factory overseas for a dual car charger (2100mA) with one std. Port (iPad) and one Samsung port. It should be available soon.

I haven't tried another car charger personally, but can vouch for the Verizon one. Always works for me and I just leave it plugged in the lighter outlet in my center console so whenever I need it, it's easy and quick to plug in the phone. Also has the scrunchy style cord to keep things neat. But at the same time, it makes it more difficult to use the phone while it's plugged in as it keeps wanting to pull back lol

Well as long as the power supplied is 5V (the usb standard) and under 1.2 amp (the output of the factory wall adaptor) you should be safe not burning out your phone. If you are just asking about a usb to micro usb cable then it shouldn't matter since the cable should supply the right voltage anyways.

This is one of the reasons I bought the oem charger. Had the ac/usb issue. Changed wires and still does that. Used my gnex charger and it didn't give me problems. Hmm... for me, I changed the wires and it works. I think I would rather just save the $10 and put it towards the "wheneveritisreleased" Wireless Charging Orb.....or the TYLT VU when it comes out in April.
Hi guys, I have a few micro USB chargers lying around. Just wondering if using these would harm my N4:
12 V, 500mA
5 V, 2.1 A

at least you narrowed it down fast to the wire. in my case after swapping just the wires it was still the same. then when i used the original n4 charger on my gnex, my gnex suddenly had the ac/usb charging issue. my problem with not getting another charger was i sometimes charge both phones at the same time so i needed one more. good thing a couple of searches led me to the buychina site and now all works well.
I am very interested in this topic as I believe I'm going to need a new USB > MicroUSB cable. My cat accidentally knocked off my N4 while it was charging using the original cable/charger. While it seems the charger itself is okay, the cable is what I am worried about. The end seems slightly bent and, while it will plug into the N4 (which will report charging) it doesn't go as "easily". From visual inspection I think the problem is with the cable's microUSB end; I really hope that the N4's socket itself is not bent/damaged in anyway, but I cannot see any visual signs thereof.
I was really hoping to pick up another OEM charging kit, but it appears that (assuming they are legit ) that one can only find them on Taobao/ChinaBuy as linked above? I was hoping Amazon would have them. With this in mind, will there be anything specific to look for finding another "USB to MicroUSB cable" from Amazon to use with the existing, undamaged OEM charger? Thanks.
I'm no expert but I believe there shouldn't be any issue of you get a different cable. I've used an HTC, Samsung and Asus calls with the LG charger and there aren't any issues. If it's just the cable you need, go with Amazon. It'll be faster

Great, thanks. It seems logical that all "USB A > MicroUSB B" cables should be capable of the same thing, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something that would say, impair my ability to use this cable for not only charging with the OEM wall charger, but charging from my PC's USB ports, connecting to said PC via USB Debugging for rooting/flashing etc...

DUDE!!!! The 12V charger can KILL your phone.. The phone is designed for 5volts..
As long as the charger supplies 5 volts it is okay... even a 10 amp charger will work fine (if availiable ).. The current is controlled by the device (nexus 4 in this case).. It will draw how much current it requires.. Voltage on the other hand is decided by the charger.... 12volts will fry the device...

Oops, thanks for this heads up! I've used the 12V charger for weeks without any noticeable damage (though the screen goes haywire when it is plugged in). I'll switch to the original N4 charger now.
Out of the blue I noticed my S3 was charging very slowly, it even was losing a charge while it was plugged in while I was using it. I figure it had something to do with my custom ROM so I reflash, still same outcome. The battery was still holding a good charge, so I figured it was something else. I then went out and bought a new charger, which came with a micro usb cord to see if that helped. Plugged in the new charger while using my old micro usb cord, still same outcome. Then used the new micro usb cord and old charger, charging went back to normal, problem solved! I would of never thought that the cord would malfunction from day to day use after such a short lifespan. Moral of the story, check your cords if you experience the same problem, it could save you some time and money!
I bought some cheap ones off Amazon. They won't charge the s3 but will my touchpad. But my s3 charger won't charge my touchpad. Stuff is weird at times.
Glad it was an easy fix.

I had heard of "Buy Cheap, Buy Twice", but now we've got "Buy Cheap, Charge Twice"
A lot of times it's the DC power brick that makes the difference. Not all of them have the same power output. Rarely, if ever, is it the actual cord itself. USB cables use pretty thin gauge wire already and the only way you're going to get a difference from one cable to another would be if it was REALLY cheap and using an ultra-thin wire or if it was a REALLY long cable (increases in cable length equate to increased resistance to electrical transmission...)
All USB cables are 5 volts. However, there can be significant differences in the milliamp output for each DC adapter. Aside from being a computer geek and gamer who builds custom PC's, I happen to be a hotel General Manager. I just checked our catch-all box of phone chargers and found that while every charger has an output of 5v, the amperage put out varied from 350 mA to 1000 mA from one charger to the next.
This variance in output is why some chargers take so long as compared to others. I don't know what the actual Samsung charger output is, since my charger is at home, but my guess is it's between 800 and 1000 mA.
I use the stock BB charger to charge both my 9900 and GS3, the BB charges pretty normal but lately I've been having a problem with the charging time on my S3, I have to charge it everyday now, my usage isn't that heavy, it lasts me a day and a half normally. Going to start using the stock charger to see if there is a difference.
I'm using the Samsung stock charger after not having used it for a month and noticing that my battery levels have deteriorated after using my BB stock charger. The battery seems to be discharging while on the charger! I'm in for a world of pain, going to monitor it for a while. I could be stressing over nothing.
