Does anyone know of a good car charger? You know, the kind that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket.
I had one at one time but it died after only a week of usage.
I got this one and it works fine with a spare microusb cable. Best part is that I can now have two phones charging at once.
Thanks!
At only $8, that's a steal of a deal! Just bought it with free two-day shipping.
Should have checked Monoprice

In my opinion... I have wasted alot of $ on trying to get away cheap on a car charger. By far the best one is the official verizon one. It charges to 100% from 0 in less than 2hrs and charges while I am navigating, wifi tethering and using bt at the same time. Well worth the extra cash.

I got a similar one, but it has one port meant for an ipad/tablet, which outputs 2A - that is helpful for when I am running car navigation and wifi hotspot at the same time. I also had to get a charging-only usb cable because regular cables would trigger usb storage mode on the phone.

To bad the Charge won't draw more than ~0.8A... Also, it is the charger causing the phone to go to mass storage mode, not the cable. A microUSB cable is a microUSB cable, and if the cable says "charging only" they have the data pins shorted out (I believe that's what is done) and it really isn't fixing the root cause of the issue.

Only thing about it is, its a little short, so it may not fit perfectly in every car's cigarette lighter port. Won't work in my dad's car. :/

Did you ever try fastcharger script? It suppose to speed up your phone charger using USB.

The only way you could speed up charging would be to modify it via the kernel, or try to force load a module that does the same thing. Odds are the fastcharger script just gets the system to recognize USB charging as a wall charger. Either way, I wouldn't recommend using anything that says it'll make your phone charge faster unless there was SIGNIFICANT data to support the claim as well as evidence that it doesn't harm the hardware.
Charging the battery too fast is very dangerous too. I tried "supercharging" one of my batteries and it almost caught fire.

I would suggest this one http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Rapid-Vehicle-Power-Adapter/dp/B002N8HG0Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329181948&sr=1-2 since it is made by moto and provides 1 ampere instead of .7 or .5 others provide.

It could be the cable, but the odds are against that. The way to tell if it was the cable would be to try it in another AC charger to see what it does.

I tried a 2.0 amp USB car charger and the factory cable.. .my battery got really hot and didn't charge at all.. .not sure why but the 1.0 amp charger seems to work the best...I have seen a 5.0amp at Walmart in the car department.. .but I don't feel like experimenting with that

Samsung smartphones and Tablets charge in std mode (Charging USB) unless the two data wires are "shorted". (I have seen it done directly in a high speed charge only cable or in the Samsung chargers. Some say they use a resistor.) When the data pins are "shorted", Samsung switches to high speed charging. (Charging AC). I have been harassing a factory overseas for a dual car charger (2100mA) with one std. Port (iPad) and one Samsung port. It should be available soon.

I haven't tried another car charger personally, but can vouch for the Verizon one. Always works for me and I just leave it plugged in the lighter outlet in my center console so whenever I need it, it's easy and quick to plug in the phone. Also has the scrunchy style cord to keep things neat. But at the same time, it makes it more difficult to use the phone while it's plugged in as it keeps wanting to pull back lol

So I broke my Optimus One LG original charger, and I can't find an original LG charger anywhere! I've gone through two local chargers, but they don't last more than two weeks with me.
Would another company's phone's Micro USB charger be alright for my phone? Any specific company or phone which would best suit the Optimus One?
I'm asking because I used to think all Micro USB chargers are the same, but the local ones used to screw my touchscreen up if they were plugged into my phone for 30 mins or so.
A generic USB charger is fine. The way the phone is wired in side determines if it is going to pull 3volts or 5 volts from the usb charger. If you were trying to charge an Ipad then you need to find a high output charger. I've been using my HTC usb charger and Ipad charger on my OP and it has been charging fine.
That's the beauty of Europe mandating phones have the micro usb chargers. No Vasaline required when you need to buy a new charger and cable.
Androids are sensitive to chargers, but any half decent MicroUSB charger should see you through. (The roadside ones don't qualify as half decent ofc )
I carry my Kindle charger usually since it's very compact and many Indian buildings have moved to sockets that take both Indian and American plugs, and it works fine with the phone.

Sent From My P-509 With Xda Premium App
blackberry chargers and moto chargers have the data pins shorted in the charger themselves. This is because they have have high speed/low speed charging detection system (as do most android phones now).
If the data pins are shorted, the charging rate is up to 1000ma, without the data pins shorted, many phones limit the charging rate to 500ma. This is to keep the phone from shorting out USB ports on computers by drawing too much power through them. The wall adapters that require separate USB cables don't always have that, or they limit the power output to about 750ma. The dozen or so smartphones in my office require about 700ma to operate, so the effective charge rate is +50ma, which takes FOREVER to charge.
I took an old 5v 1200ma wall wart from a router and cut the end off and soldered on a USB connecter (with the data pins shorted) now I can plug use those multi-plug extendable USB cables for charging any kind of phone just by putting in the right adapter tip. My P509TN will charge from dead to 100% in just over an hour.

True... I'm hardly ever using the original LG charger. Any micro-USB cable will work. I used HTC, Samsung, Kindle, etc. so far. And my battery's still working splendidly
My Charge takes about 3 hours to go from empty to fully charged. Is there any way to speed this up? The phone only allows 368 mA of current when charging, even though the charger has a higher rating than that. Am I doing something wrong?
3 hours is pretty damn good but if there is a way to speed it up I'd like to know as well
you may want a higher output charger, I've heard the 2A ones for the galaxy tab work pretty well

If you do get a new charger remember to always use the stock microUSB cable to transfer files/flash through ODIN.
Apparently the stock cable has a special pin that allows flashing through ODIN, I would just keep that plugged into your computer for data stuff and use your new charger(if you do get one) for just that, charging.

I think that rumor is unfounded. I've been using a cheap 3rd party micro USB cable from Fry's to flash in Odin and never had a single problem.
I've used several different cables to flash with Odin but most often it's a retractable one I carry around. I've never had an issue.

The reason people tell you to use the stock cable is because a lot of third party cables are made too cheaply (too thin, and not enough shielding). This can result in bad data transfer which could mean BRICK.
I, too, have used third party cables that worked fine.

Guys, the magic is not in the stock cable, it's in the stock AC charger! The charger has a circuit inside the box that shorts the data wires and tells the phone to charge at a higher rate and not activate the USB data services on the phone. That's why some chargers are slow as they only omit the connection to the data pins and then the phone thinks it's connected to a computer USB port and limits the charging current to less than 500ma! You can buy a charging only cable from someone like iGo for about $35 (which I did) or you can fabricate a low cost adapter for charging from a short USB extension cable...
Cut the cable in half, connect (short) the data wires on the female USB end together (usually green and white wires) and then red power wires on both ends together followed by connecting the two black ground wires together. Make sure that all of the connections are well insulated from each other (use properly sized shrink tubing).
Now CAUTION, this cable adapter will let you charge your phone at the full charge current of the charging source (I use a dual USB 2.1A cigarette lighter plug car charger) so you are relying on the phone circuits to manage the charging current and the phone can and will get quite warm!
I use this cable together with an Xway vent mount when I am using the navigation application (I use either Google navigator or CoPilot) with the phone set at full screen brightness and the battery will actually charge while I'm driving! The vent mount keeps the phone cool and keeps the battery overheating safety circuit from kicking in.
HTH but YMMV!

After using a wall adapter to micro USB port charger that only supplies 0.7 A instead of the 1 A the stock charger does, the lower adapter got very hot. Does the phone still try to draw one amp if its not connected to a PC through usb? Considering the standardization of micro-usb it would seem like G2x owners will try to use chargers at friends houses for other phones and it may not be the safest thing. Any input?

Phone can only draw as much power as the charger supplies, up to something like 1 amp. If the charger supplies less than that, then it only draws what the charger supplies. If the charger supplies more than 1 amp, then it will still only draw the 1 amp that it needs. The more important thing to ensure is that the voltage of that charger is the same as the stock charger.

It's strange we got different chargers. This one outputs 4.8V at 1.0A. It also squeals when the phone is in standby. If i wake it it stops humming. Model STA-U13WR2. I wonder if charge rate has to do with anything bad? When the charge says completed and it is plugged into a USB port, it will charge for another hour at times. Makes sense since a high charging rate will cause the battery voltage to spike and read as if the charge is complete when it's still got room.

Well as long as the power supplied is 5V (the usb standard) and under 1.2 amp (the output of the factory wall adaptor) you should be safe not burning out your phone. If you are just asking about a usb to micro usb cable then it shouldn't matter since the cable should supply the right voltage anyways.

at least you narrowed it down fast to the wire. in my case after swapping just the wires it was still the same. then when i used the original n4 charger on my gnex, my gnex suddenly had the ac/usb charging issue. my problem with not getting another charger was i sometimes charge both phones at the same time so i needed one more. good thing a couple of searches led me to the buychina site and now all works well.
I am very interested in this topic as I believe I'm going to need a new USB > MicroUSB cable. My cat accidentally knocked off my N4 while it was charging using the original cable/charger. While it seems the charger itself is okay, the cable is what I am worried about. The end seems slightly bent and, while it will plug into the N4 (which will report charging) it doesn't go as "easily". From visual inspection I think the problem is with the cable's microUSB end; I really hope that the N4's socket itself is not bent/damaged in anyway, but I cannot see any visual signs thereof.
I was really hoping to pick up another OEM charging kit, but it appears that (assuming they are legit ) that one can only find them on Taobao/ChinaBuy as linked above? I was hoping Amazon would have them. With this in mind, will there be anything specific to look for finding another "USB to MicroUSB cable" from Amazon to use with the existing, undamaged OEM charger? Thanks.
I'm no expert but I believe there shouldn't be any issue of you get a different cable. I've used an HTC, Samsung and Asus calls with the LG charger and there aren't any issues. If it's just the cable you need, go with Amazon. It'll be faster

Great, thanks. DUDE!!!! The 12V charger can KILL your phone.. The phone is designed for 5volts..
As long as the charger supplies 5 volts it is okay... even a 10 amp charger will work fine (if availiable ).. The current is controlled by the device (nexus 4 in this case).. It will draw how much current it requires.. Voltage on the other hand is decided by the charger.... 12volts will fry the device...

Adjust accordingly. Just know that if u do replace the cable or use another charger, the charging rate won't be as fast. See https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-one-charging-cable-alternative.68517/
But I completely agree, it should have been longer. I just adjusted accordingly and all is good now, the cable should have been at least 6 ft.

Yeah I've noticed with other chargers it takes forever to charge. Are there any longer cords out there that are a higher rate of charge?

I have no idea about that, maybe someone else can provide input on that. I do love the fast charging rate on the phone though, I'll even pay OnePlus $5-10 to have a larger usb cable with their special battery juice.

I'm pretty sure it's high speed usb cord. I used my old nexus charger and it charged about 10% in an hour. Brutal.

Yup I know how you felt.. I used the blackberry folding charging for my N5 and it charged super quick and the cable is super long.
The blackberry folding charger was 1.8A.
I thoroughly recommend the blackberry charger. It has to be this one:

Should be able to grab it from your location too. A lot of sellers sell this particular charger. It's got a 6ft cable and charges quickly. I've replaced all my chargers with this one and it works a treat.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ng charger&sprefix=blackberry+folding+cha, aps looks like they became more expensive, I paid $5 for 2 back when I bought them.
I got some off monoprice for $7.

Glad I found this thread. I never even took the stock charger and able out of the box yet. I have a generic usb cable plugged into my iPad charger. It took almost 8 hours to go from 3% to around 80%. I think I am gonna start using the included charger now.

If you're looking for a longer alternative, this one will charge at the same rate as the original cable.

can you place the original cord to a usb port in a laptop? the connection looks odd, and at first i thought it was missing something... it is just a stick but looks alot like a normal usb...

Yes you can. It's the same cord that youd get from any the phone. It does look strange, but it is a USB port.

The 2amp chargers from Samsung charge at the same rate. You can get them from amazon along with a long charging cable for under $10.

Thanks. I did order this cable. It doesn't charge quite as fast the oem cable. I get ~1100 mA with the oem cable, and ~800 mA with this one. But it's still much better than the ~200mA I was getting with all the other generic usb cables I had.
