I have another issue now, I tried to re-install a backup and it just loops to twrp now. Also tried flashing a rom and the same thing, won't even boot.
The saga continues, tried xbsall brick fix and it still just boots back to recovery. Tryiny to reflash ICS now, running out of ideas.

No its not just the apk thats needed for it to work the Lgmms apk needs lgTelephony for mms sms etc thats why you cannot use the one from SU760 iCS thats why i added it to be deleted in updater script along with messages apk as it will fc and services.jar is modded to disable apk uid signatures needed in order for package manager to allow apk to run now you can pretty much pull apks from any other device without worrying aboud uid mismatch error

Now i understand why there is the message's bug...because despite the apk the lgTelephony for mms sms is from SU760...however thanks for your great work! Now i can't test this new fix...however i will!

Locate LGTelephonyKrOemProvider.apk in /system/app and delete it
Locate Messages.apk also in /system/app
Copy the apk's from ZIp
Reboot to Recovery i use CWM dunno about TWRP
Then in CWM mount system
then
adb shell
# rm /system/framework/services.jar
in another cmd prompt
adb push services /system/framework/
back to shell # chmod 644 /system/framework/services.jar
if you wipe data it work with no FC now the thing is the Old Messages apk left some .db database file which causes it have SQL errors hence the FC cant remember the exact path as i Just cleared the data just post Logcat so we can track down that db file and delete it.

Re: Sms[fix][ics][v1]
I just assumed you had to flash the zip through recovery, I tried it in TWRP and had all sorts of issues. Maybe I will try flash CWM tonight and try your process.

hi defcomg. your rom is odexed, or deodexed? im on odexed xbsalls 5.2v and this your fix cant work on this rom for me. both apps from fix get to FC and phone lost service.

Defcomg....for "wipe data" you mean..."wipe data/factory reset" in CWM menu or in system and storage "wipe /data"...i think the second but in this way we will have some applications that are installed on the phone that won't work? Or i'm wrong?

It is in data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/mmssms.db you need to delete it.
Optimus G is also working. It is very nice. Has themes And popup. I used telephonyprovider.apk from optimus 4x and G mms.apk
I can upload here so you can add it to first post.
So what you need to do is as defcomg said before:
Download zip, extract apks an copy them to /system/app/ before that backup and delete original message.apk and LGTelephonyKrOemProvider.apk. Set permissions to rw-r-r then clear data for LGMmms3.apk from /settings/app setings. Then go to data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and delete it.
Reboot.

[Q] Accidentally uninstalled Accounts & Sync App

Yep, I I accidentally the whole thing. I clicked the wrong button in TIBU.
Anyways, I got the phone yesterday, updated it to 2.3.6, and rooted it, but otherwise left it alone. I just rooted so I could restore my apps from my previous phone with TIBU. I did not restore data. Today, I was trying to fix an issue I was having with accounts and sync, and I meant to freeze it, but I hit uninstall and wasn't paying attention to the prompts, so it uninstalled it. It was backed up, but I can't re-install it. I even found the app's .apk in system/app folder, and tried to re-install it but it will not, it just tries for like a second and then says "Not installed". The option is now missing from my settings menu.
I would really like a way to fix it without having to wipe and re-install the OS, but if I have to I can.
nb4 "did you search?" yes, I did. I couldn't find anything that helped.
Thanks in advance, everyone.
Download a rom for your phone thats2.3.6 and unzip it. Go into system/app and take the apk that u need. Push it to your system/app folder with root explore. Change permissions to the ones on the pic and reboot and u should be good.

I did that, but the Applications and Sync option is not there.
If I did a recovery update to 2.3.6 again, would that fix it perhaps? or will it not let me update it that way since it's already on 2.3.6?

Actually, I did just that, and it fixed it! sigh. I wish I had thought of that right away. Now I'm back to my original problem that I was trying to fix, though. When i try to add my facebook account in accounts and sync, I click on add account, select the facebook icon, and it just goes back to the previous page without doing anything.
Oh well. At least I got the big problem fixed, thank you for helping.

Titanium reinstalling the message back or not?
What did you do? You ran out of titanium?
just find a way to solve this problem,
Use root explorer to go to system/framework
delete "com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar"
then you are good~

I could be mistaken, but if you use Titanium to make an "update.zip" in the root directory of your Internal storage, the system thinks you want to "upgrade" every time you boot. At least this is true if you boot into recovery. I've installed a backup this way before.

You shouldn't been doing that. This problem is often caused when gapps package is installed over an odexed stock ROM which includes com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar (and its correspondent .odex file). Now, taking into consideration that gapps includes the deodexed .jar, when it is installed you get the "Android is upgrading..." message on every boot.
If you want to do it properly, you should either stick to the stock .jar (as well as the .odex file), or if you prefer the one it is included in gapps package, you should then delete the .odex (/system/framework/com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex).
I tried to remove the two files (com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar and com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex), but it also continues to restart the procedure "upgrade android" at the start ...
What else should I take??

What's you setup?
Rooted? Stock? Unlocked with custom ROM?
Something seems to be wiping your Dalvik with each boot....
If you are rooted with Titanium Backup installed: Uninstall TiBu, reboot, reinstall TiBu and see if that fixed it.
If it didn't and you are on stock, I would re-flash the stock rom. Something got messed up in the system. It's probably easier to re-flash the stock firmware and root again than trying to find the culprit.

Did it started to happen after installing gapps? If so, please check if your stock ROM also contains com.google.android.media.effects.jar (and .odex). The explanation is the same as before.

I don't remember if this happened after installing gapps or after I OTA to 4.2.2 on my HTC one -- installed gapps pretty soon after OTA anyhow.
Tried to delete (/system/framework/com.google.widevine.software.drm.odex) but it re-appeared after reboot. There is also a com.google.android.media.effects.jar but no .odex.
I deleted both .jar and .odex and it's not show the number of apps to be upgrading but it show just android is upgrading.

Sir I only experience the "Android is Upgrading" every time i flash or install a zip file. Im using STOCK ROM, rooted, kernel with init.d support.
will your post be the solution to my query? or its on another topic?
TIA
If that is only after installing a .zip it is normal. It is because Dalvik cache is being created for the new app.

They way I install these are

2) copy the inverted app to system/ app and change permissions to rw-r-r
3) reboot
Note: may not work with jcases method of gaining root, my boot loader is unlocked

I deleted it with an app like titanium backup. After that you just need to reboot your phone and installed the inverted APK and all is well.
This method works for just about all the system apps. Just remember to Make a backup before you start cutting away.

yep Email didn't work.
Unfortunately I stopped using Blackout apps because of a bug. Every time I would install any Blackout apps, my Hangouts would develop a weird scrolling bug (even if I didn't install blackout hangouts at all). On normal Hangouts when you type a message and send it, it should scroll to the very bottom. But when mine was bugged, it never scrolled after I typed a message, unless someone replied. I could scroll manually but still, drove me nuts. Reinstalling hangouts and it's lib dependance didn't fix it. Reverting blackout apps didn't fix it either. Tried wiping cache, dalvik, wiping hangouts data, nothing. I had to do RSD Lite complete clean flash to make it work properly again.
I really wish I could have them on, if it weren't for the hangouts bug.

It's not the same.
So, is there any way to do this on a verizon one (locked bootloader)? In my attempt to install the blacked out mms, I tried flashing the zip from stock recovery, but it failed to verify. Tried installing the Mms.apk from the zip via adb and pm, and it said INSTALL_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES
so then I signed it with a key as per android doc, and then I got INSTALL_FAILED_UID_CHANGED. so i figured out it was because the /data/data/com.android.mms was still hanging around. removed that, tried again and got INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT. That's where i stopped.
I'm starting to think i'll have to wait till there's safestrap for moto x. If not then let me know what i need to do!

Can you explain what you mean by "manually install it" ? If you mean clicking the apk file and and hitting install, that doesn't work for me. from Root Browser, with system mounted as read write, it just says "App did not install"
If I just copy to /system/app and change permissions, it doesn't actually install it. it's not listed as an app in my applications.
I did figure out that I can restore the titanium backup by mounting /system as read write and restoring the backup, so i have my messaging back, just really want to get blacked out working!
EDIT: another thing I tried was replacing the apk file in the titanium backup with the blacked out apk. That also did not work. Titanium backup just sits there spinning with "restoring app"

Okay, tried your way. It doesn't matter whether I remove Mms.apk, rename it to Mms.apk.bak, or straight overwrite it with the other. Every time the original Mms.apk leaves the /system/app folder, it is removed from the list of installed apps. The Messaging app literally disappears off the screen.

Stuck in a boot loop after changing app permissions

I posted this in the Nexus 7 section, but this can apply to all AOKP based ROMs that have the "Permissions Manager" option.
Running SmoothROM with 4.2.2 (I think) and I was messing with the "Permissions Manager" settings under "Settings". I turned off several permissions on Facebook, such as SMS view/sender and location on it as well on some other apps. I then rebooted the tablet and now I'm stuck on a boot loop. I don't get how because these aren't system apps, so I don't think it should affect the system booting up at all. Sadly I didn't make a nandroid backup before doing this, since I thought the worse that could happen would be the apps force closing which is easily fixed. Since I didn't make a backup I rather try things that wouldn't make me lose any data.
I can get into recovery (TWRP) and have already made a backup of the current boot looping state. I have already tried deleting cache and dalvik-cache and still won't boot.
I have an idea: Turning the "Permission Management" setting to "Off" would make the apps have their default permissions. I would have to get into /data/data/com.Android.Settings and find the "Permissions Management" setting and set it to "false" or "off" through ADB. So I would have to pull the file and push the edited file back through fast boot or recovery. Anyone think this would work??
FWIW: I updated the kernel (Franco) with his franco.Kernel app 1 reboot ago, but it rebooted fine, not sure if it could be the kernel that has me in this bootloop?

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not talking about .apk or file permissions. I'm talking about permissions apps request, such as location, internet access, billing, reading contacts, etc. That's something the "Fix permissions" option in recovery mode has nothing to do with.

Im sorry but it sounds like if this issue cant be resolved you might need to reset youre phone but try to go into recovery mode and mess around and see if you can find anything that has to do with booting, good luck and ohh one more thing if all else fails in recovery mode try and find the wipe cache partition option and proceed to that ^.^ :good::good::good:
If you have the backup file you can try to reflash the rom

Camera App keeps crashing, error displayed

For some reason the Camera app on my galaxy 2 10.1 keeps throwing an error when I try to launch it.
It says can't connect to camera and I just get to close the APP.
I tried rebooting the tablet - it didn't help. Also tried clearing the cache for the APP and it didn't make a difference.
Running SlimKat rom 4.4.4.
Can someone shed some light for me on how to fix this issue?

Sometimes (this worked on a different ROM for the 7 inch version, but its worth trying) installing Google camera to system/app and removing stick camera works (always nandroid backup first so if something goes wrong you dont have to reflash.)

EDIT: also, did you clean flash or dirty flash SlimKat?

Clean flash Kitkat, can't recall if the camera worked or not when I first flashed it but I'm pretty sure it did. So it just randomly stopped.
Where does one obtain Google Camera? Right in the playstore?
And can I just uninstall the stock Camera app using the Dev tools of the rom?

Yes, google camera is in the play store. It actually probably does not need to be installed as a system app. Idk what tools are in SlimKat ATM but I've always just gone into es file explorer as root or used root explorer, mounted / and /system as R/W and deleted the camera apk from /system/app. Then just wipe cache and Dalvik in recovery and reboot. This may or may not fix the problem, but it worked for me. Again, make a backup first.

Don't install it with package installer. If you installed it from the Play Store, cut the apk from /data/app and move it to /system/app and change the permissions to the same as the other apps in folder. Google camera shouldn't matter though.

google camera is not compatible with our tabs....even if you do get it installed its pretty useless IMO. Grab your ROM zip and go into it and find your camera.apk. unzip it to your sd card and then go back in and long press it and reinstall it. It may (did for me) work that way. If not try another (different) ROM. Grab zip file go in and find the camera apk under apps, unzip and then reinstall. NOTE: for me, I had to go into Titanium and completely remove the camera app that i had and then do the above procedure. I trial and errored it and it worked for me. Finally
Edit: and yes, please nandroid backup b4 trying anything
