I posted this in the Nexus 7 section, but this can apply to all AOKP based ROMs that have the "Permissions Manager" option.
Running SmoothROM with 4.2.2 (I think) and I was messing with the "Permissions Manager" settings under "Settings". I turned off several permissions on Facebook, such as SMS view/sender and location on it as well on some other apps. I then rebooted the tablet and now I'm stuck on a boot loop. I don't get how because these aren't system apps, so I don't think it should affect the system booting up at all. Sadly I didn't make a nandroid backup before doing this, since I thought the worse that could happen would be the apps force closing which is easily fixed. Since I didn't make a backup I rather try things that wouldn't make me lose any data.
I can get into recovery (TWRP) and have already made a backup of the current boot looping state. I have already tried deleting cache and dalvik-cache and still won't boot.
I have an idea: Turning the "Permission Management" setting to "Off" would make the apps have their default permissions. I would have to get into /data/data/com.Android.Settings and find the "Permissions Management" setting and set it to "false" or "off" through ADB. So I would have to pull the file and push the edited file back through fast boot or recovery. Anyone think this would work??
FWIW: I updated the kernel (Franco) with his franco.Kernel app 1 reboot ago, but it rebooted fine, not sure if it could be the kernel that has me in this bootloop?

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not talking about .apk or file permissions. I'm talking about permissions apps request, such as location, internet access, billing, reading contacts, etc. That's something the "Fix permissions" option in recovery mode has nothing to do with.

Im sorry but it sounds like if this issue cant be resolved you might need to reset youre phone but try to go into recovery mode and mess around and see if you can find anything that has to do with booting, good luck and ohh one more thing if all else fails in recovery mode try and find the wipe cache partition option and proceed to that ^.^ :good::good::good:
If you have the backup file you can try to reflash the rom

If yes -
you may want to try clearing your data, cache, dalvik cache to make sure you have a fresh load.
If no -
Maybe see if you have a new OTA update for your phone

2 options:
1) Factory Restore
2) ROOT device, install ROOT Explorer, navigate to / > data > clipboard, select ALL and delete all, than go into your Settings > Applications Manager > All, look for TestServices, than remove updates/clear data. Reboot and everything should be fine.
Something in your clipboard became corrupted by TestServices

I had the same exact issue (stock rooted) and I was using the newest SwiftKey as well. It's possible that it may be related to SwiftKey, so, maybe try changing back to stock keyboard? Anyways, for me, after I flashed my first ROM, the problem went away. Sorry, no direct solutions, but just wanted to chime in with my experience as well.

I had the same issue and I was stock EVERYTHING. I rooted just to get rid of it. It looks like the clipboard never clears itself. My folder had snapshots (using the Jedi hand wipe across the screen), text clips, weblinks, etc. each in their own separate folder. Wonder if this is a feature to data mine us Verizon users?
EDIT: Anyway, I found a link to fix this by user dr3do on Android Forums.
1. boot recovery (CWM) > advanced > wipe cache
2. reboot phone > Root Explorer > delete /data/clipboard/*
3. reboot recovery again > advanced > fix permissions
4. reboot phone > it's fine

Recently rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. As of now I'm running Cyanogen Mod 10. Before that I was using Cyanogen Mod 9.0. However I've experienced the same issue with both roms. My favorite apps wouldnt open. However Google play store works so I figured its not my gapps.
1) Spotify- just shows a blank screen nothing else.
2) Evernote- not able to create the database file and tells me to restart the device and make sure my memory card isn't full.
3). Lecture Note- App needs a directory at the media/shared/external storage (SD card) to store the notebook.
So just by searching the forum and not seeing much on the topic, I figured I missed something in the process.
I don't use titanium backup and neither am I familiar with it. But if I have to learn then please tell me so.
I've always wiped before flashing roms.
I know CM 10 is a nightly and all that jive but I really like it. But without apps working then it is useless for me.
Oh and not sure if this is related but every download from a hyperlink on a web page results in a download unsuccessful.

May be try to reflash rom again latest nightly for your specific device + flash gapps jellybean not ics + full wipe after flashing those (wipe cash+wipe dalvik cash in advanced options)
If not working so try wipe data of apps you want in setting
If not so send messages to developers may be their apps not compatible with jellybean need update

Netflix
My device P5113 4.04 stock
I rooted using this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056 but now netflix will load up, and I go to play a video and load forever then i get error 11003(note netflix works fine on my phone/ps3).
Does any body know a fix for this?
The original reason i rooted was to attempt to move the notification bar to the top (i hate it at the bottom b/c I constantly hit buttons). So i tried to do this:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18063-move-the-status-bar/
(1) download ES File Explorer
(2) go to settings and activate root explorer and mount r/w
(3) navigate to /system/
(4) click on build.prop and select "ES Note Editor"
(5) look for the line item called "ro.sf.lcd_density=160"
(6) edit it to read "ro.sf.lcd_density=161"
(7) exit and save the file
(8) reboot
Click to collapse
and I broke android(would not boot, go only a black screen) b/c i added this to the file, because i didn't find it, so i had to reinstall.
So my other question is is there anyway to move the status/notification bar to the top? Im about to go back to stock but, i will root again if i can fix netflix.
I recently noticed by using busy box there is an option to run a script to fix permissions. My question is can we use this feature to fix perm rather than rebooting to recovery, ie does this give the same results or is it recommended to use recovery just like when you do factory data reset.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Almost always better practice to do things to the system when in single-user mode, or as close to it as you can get. Bad things can happen when you change the system under processes that are running at the time.
Does it accomplish the same result though
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
You'd have to read the script you found and compare it to the one in your recovery. Even from recovery version to recovery version, the script can do slightly different things.
Adding to what jeff wrote, this rule is also good when messing with system apps and most importantly with framework-res. For these cases I run the Aroma file manager zip from the recovery, copy and replace what I need, fix permissions and reboot (without active processes noise)

Even if you ran fix permissions (from any script), you'd still have to reboot.
I just installed ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 and i now have root so i could regain my copy/paste function back. (I delete everything in data>clipboard)
However now when i go to install any app i get the error, insufficient storage. As the title says I have ~15gb free (says the settings>storage). Even when uninstalling an app I cannot re install it as it says i have insufficient space. For example, i uninstalled angry birds SW (which was 60mb) and i cannot reinstall it, or any other apps.
Oh, and i uninstalled the Exynosabuse (but left root enabled) and now i cannot reinstall it to disable root. I also tried uninstalling the google play updates, and nothing changed. Installing apps with either google play or ES file manager gives the same result (insufficient storage space)
Thanks for the help.

If you are getting it for a particular app then try searching for the it using its name it must have left some file over during your previous installion delete all files with the app name and try installing it should install
Try uninstalling the update of play store by going into settings applications
The first one should do the trick

All of the apps in the play store that i tired (ones that haven't been installed before) gave the same error, not just ones previously installed. I also deleted some bloatware updates and tried to reinstall their updates afterwards. The problem persists.
I did uninstall the playstore updates and clearing the cache. Nothing changed.
I've restored to factory and its working again. Crappy solution though..

Well it's happening again.
How do I get into recovery mode to delete dalvik cache? Is that where you hold down power and the volume button, cause I don't see anywhere to delete the cache when im in there. It's just a screen thqts says downloading.
I cleard the dalvik cache In link2sd but it says it's empty. Also cleared app cache with link2sd.
I did notice that the system file space is at 17% (243mb left) which is still large enough to install the apps I'm trying. I have 25gb free out of 32gb.
This problem is not limited to one app. It also happens with apps that never been installed on this tablet.
Thanks for the help.
Did you try what I mentioned

Dude i suggested going into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache a while ago but got no response. You didnt ask how if you didnt know and you obviously didn't search for it. Not trying to be rude here but it just is a little irritating when you try to help and you get ignored. Volume up and power till you see the boot screen then let go. And youll see wipe cache, do it. Then scroll to advanced and then to wipe dalvik cache, do it. Then go back to the firdt sceen and select reboot.
Also gmfeny had a suggestion did you try that?

The first time you mentioned it i had already did a factory reset and my GN was working for the moment. When the problem came back i said i tried it in link 2 sd and i did boot to what it thought was recovery mode (i did google it but i must have miss read. I was holding power and volume down to get into recovery screen) and didnt see anywhere to delete dalvik cache. I should have stated clearly that i needed help on getting to the right place.
I will try that next.
gmfeny, I have looked in data>apps and nothing about the apps im trying to install is there. Also this problem isnt limited to apps that i've previously installed. So I wouldnt expect anything to be in there on those apps. However there is a folder im not sure about. its not very big (256KB) and its names mcRegistry.
I'm not sure if its a big deal, and further since no one seemed to have commented on it. Is there a problem with my system file space as mentioned above? (17% left, 250MB)
thanks
I have the GTN80013 (32gb no GSM/cdma)
Im in recovery mode now and i selected wipe cache partition. I dont see anywhere that says advanced. The only options i have are; reboot, apply update from external storage, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, apply update from cache.
still cannot install some apks. I tried to install appinstaller (which i've never installed/tried to install from the play store) and it failed. Also my game emulators failed to install with ES file explorer.
I was able to clear the dalvik cache by gong to data/dalvik-cache And deleting everything. after restarting it waa rebuilt. still can't install apps.
Maybe it's not the same as doing it in recovery, but that's not an option in my recovery mode from what I can see.
Thank for the help
I finally solved my problem.
I had installed Link2SD and a setting in that app was causing the problem.
The Fix:
Open up the menu (context menu) > settings
Click on install location and change it from External to Automatic.
I can install app now.
The only strange part is when i first had this problem, i didnt have this app installed. As suggested above, it was probably the Dalvik cache.
For anyone who has problems finding the 'clear dalvik cache' in recovery mode; You can use lucky patcher to delete it. Its in the menu>trouble shooting> delete dalvik cache and reboot.
Or you can do it manually by going to data>dalvik-cache and deleting everything in there.
Thanks for the help!

No its not just the apk thats needed for it to work the Lgmms apk needs lgTelephony for mms sms etc thats why you cannot use the one from SU760 iCS thats why i added it to be deleted in updater script along with messages apk as it will fc and services.jar is modded to disable apk uid signatures needed in order for package manager to allow apk to run now you can pretty much pull apks from any other device without worrying aboud uid mismatch error
Now i understand why there is the message's bug...because despite the apk the lgTelephony for mms sms is from SU760...however thanks for your great work! Now i can't test this new fix...however i will!

Locate LGTelephonyKrOemProvider.apk in /system/app and delete it
Locate Messages.apk also in /system/app
Copy the apk's from ZIp
Reboot to Recovery i use CWM dunno about TWRP
Then in CWM mount system
then
adb shell
# rm /system/framework/services.jar
in another cmd prompt
adb push services /system/framework/
back to shell # chmod 644 /system/framework/services.jar
if you wipe data it work with no FC now the thing is the Old Messages apk left some .db database file which causes it have SQL errors hence the FC cant remember the exact path as i Just cleared the data just post Logcat so we can track down that db file and delete it.

It is in data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/mmssms.db you need to delete it.
Optimus G is also working. It is very nice. Has themes And popup. I used telephonyprovider.apk from optimus 4x and G mms.apk
I can upload here so you can add it to first post.
So what you need to do is as defcomg said before:
Download zip, extract apks an copy them to /system/app/ before that backup and delete original message.apk and LGTelephonyKrOemProvider.apk. Set permissions to rw-r-r then clear data for LGMmms3.apk from /settings/app setings. Then go to data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and delete it.
Reboot.
