For some reason the Camera app on my galaxy 2 10.1 keeps throwing an error when I try to launch it.
It says can't connect to camera and I just get to close the APP.
I tried rebooting the tablet - it didn't help. Also tried clearing the cache for the APP and it didn't make a difference.
Running SlimKat rom 4.4.4.
Can someone shed some light for me on how to fix this issue?

Sometimes (this worked on a different ROM for the 7 inch version, but its worth trying) installing Google camera to system/app and removing stick camera works (always nandroid backup first so if something goes wrong you dont have to reflash.)

EDIT: also, did you clean flash or dirty flash SlimKat?

Clean flash Kitkat, can't recall if the camera worked or not when I first flashed it but I'm pretty sure it did. So it just randomly stopped.
Where does one obtain Google Camera? Right in the playstore?
And can I just uninstall the stock Camera app using the Dev tools of the rom?

Yes, google camera is in the play store. It actually probably does not need to be installed as a system app. Idk what tools are in SlimKat ATM but I've always just gone into es file explorer as root or used root explorer, mounted / and /system as R/W and deleted the camera apk from /system/app. Then just wipe cache and Dalvik in recovery and reboot. This may or may not fix the problem, but it worked for me. Again, make a backup first.

Don't install it with package installer. If you installed it from the Play Store, cut the apk from /data/app and move it to /system/app and change the permissions to the same as the other apps in folder. Google camera shouldn't matter though.

google camera is not compatible with our tabs....even if you do get it installed its pretty useless IMO. Grab your ROM zip and go into it and find your camera.apk. unzip it to your sd card and then go back in and long press it and reinstall it. It may (did for me) work that way. If not try another (different) ROM. Grab zip file go in and find the camera apk under apps, unzip and then reinstall. NOTE: for me, I had to go into Titanium and completely remove the camera app that i had and then do the above procedure. I trial and errored it and it worked for me. Finally
Edit: and yes, please nandroid backup b4 trying anything

Yep, I I accidentally the whole thing. I clicked the wrong button in TIBU.
Anyways, I got the phone yesterday, updated it to 2.3.6, and rooted it, but otherwise left it alone. I just rooted so I could restore my apps from my previous phone with TIBU. I did not restore data. Today, I was trying to fix an issue I was having with accounts and sync, and I meant to freeze it, but I hit uninstall and wasn't paying attention to the prompts, so it uninstalled it. It was backed up, but I can't re-install it. I even found the app's .apk in system/app folder, and tried to re-install it but it will not, it just tries for like a second and then says "Not installed". The option is now missing from my settings menu.
I would really like a way to fix it without having to wipe and re-install the OS, but if I have to I can.
nb4 "did you search?" yes, I did. I couldn't find anything that helped.
Thanks in advance, everyone.
Download a rom for your phone thats2.3.6 and unzip it. Go into system/app and take the apk that u need. Push it to your system/app folder with root explore. Change permissions to the ones on the pic and reboot and u should be good.

I pushed the file and changed permissions to exactly as shown in the picture, and it still came back with "application not installed"
Edit: DERP, big time derp, forgot to reboot. one minute.
Edit 2: changed permissions, rebooted, still would not install.

I did that, but the Applications and Sync option is not there.
If I did a recovery update to 2.3.6 again, would that fix it perhaps? or will it not let me update it that way since it's already on 2.3.6?

Actually, I did just that, and it fixed it! sigh. I wish I had thought of that right away. Now I'm back to my original problem that I was trying to fix, though. When i try to add my facebook account in accounts and sync, I click on add account, select the facebook icon, and it just goes back to the previous page without doing anything.
Oh well. At least I got the big problem fixed, thank you for helping.

reflash whatever rom you currently have, but don't wipe the data/factory reset. Since the file you need is in the system folder it'll rewrite.

I just ran the 2.3.6 update again. It fixed it, but it turns out that the problem I was trying to fix in the first place which led me to uninstall the app was not a problem at all, it was google locking out facebook sync on nexus S meh, whatever. I only did it for the pictures anyways. Thanks though!
I found a way to easily fix the S Note issue on our device after flashing the 'leaked' JB.
I just thought I should start a new thread since the answer to this question is mostly buried deep down in long threads and it's difficult combing through a lot of them.
This work here is NOT mine. I'm just putting it up here. It was XDA users lee yun khong and nokiamodeln91 who drew my attention to a zip file uploaded by XDA user vijai2011 .
Many thanks to them.

So this is how I fixed it on my phone. Tried it on Classic Rom and Rocket Rom and it worked so I believe it will work on the others.
1) Download the zip file, extract them and put them on your SD card.
2) Uninstall S Note from your device.
3) Locate and install the two apks in the zip file as normal apks.
4) That is it. S Note should work now. You would also see the widget in the widget drawer

When I was using 4.1.1 XXLS2, SNote worked but productivity tools was grayed me. No matter how I followed the instructions on the numerous threads I found, not able to enable the tools. Now on Bangsti's 4.1.2 XXLS7 and SNote works with productivity tools enabled. I did the three wipes plus format preload before I flashed XXLS7 following instructions stated in OP of the rom thread.
You can remove all instances of SNote and SMemo using Titanium then run com.sec.android.app.snotebook-1.apk found in /data/app. Hope this helps.

Mmm if you did exactly as I wrote then I do not know why it is not working. However, the latest leak (XXLS7) already has that problem fixed. Plus productivity tool works now. So I recommend you download and flash any of the ROMs.
Cheers.
I have the latest leak (XXLS7) installed and I have the same issue, SNote crashes. Tried uninstall and install back, but no luck.
I read you need to format "Preload" from within CWM before installing the ROM.

Reboot into recovery (Im sure you are on a safe kernel) wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache. Use MD5 to check if youve downloaded the full ROM, now install. I think it will automatically reboot. Set the device up and let it settle. It should work!
Unfortunatelly not work.

Exactly what happen to me. First it vibrates once (I knew it when it vibrates, it would start), the it vibrates twice. After that, Unfortunately it stopped working. I've tried uninstall and reinstall, like you said, but still no luck. I tried restore from titanium, no luck either. Tried restoring S choice, it went spinning and spinning (waited for about 20mins). Now i have out of idea.

So I have a rooted GS3 running stock 4.1.2 and I flashed one of those inverted Google play store apps using twrp. Then when I rebooted my device for another reason and went into the play store, it said no connection even though my WiFi and 4g are both fine. I uninstalled all updates to the app, but then the play store would crash even when running in the background. So I found the latest version of the play store I could online, which was 4.0.2.5 which isn't the most recent. But now I still have the same no connection problem. Any solutions? This happened to me to me once, I fixed it by restoring a backup. I couldn't really figure out what was causing it. I know I messed it up by clearing data on system framework. But I have no idea how that messed it up.
You could just flash a custom rom and that will fix the issue. The problem is that the playstore is being updated constantly. Any Inverted playstore I have running ends up getting automatically updated to the most recent release anyways, so I just kind of gave up theming it. You probably installed an old version of playstore. The playstore must have some automatic connection protocol that enables it to automatically update without permission, and an old playstore might not allow that connection.
You might just be able to completely delete the playstore from your phone to install a recent one, but I have no idea if that would work. Someone has to know how to fix this without a restore or flashing a new rom.

That will work for sure, just have to find a custom rom you like. Your play store won't restore even if it's backed up through titanium. It's a good idea to have titanium anyway.
Never restore system data, only restore user apps + data. That's known to cause problems after a restore.

Are you new to flashing roms? Just make sure you do all the proper steps first.
Nandroid and unlock bootloader first.
factory reset, wipe cache and Dalvik cache, format system, then flash rom.
Follow the instructions on the roms page and you're good to go.

That is very strange, give it a shot, flashing a gapps package might work. I do think it's a problem with the Google apps though, so your play store is working right? I think all you need now is let the play store auto update. Maybe there's a way to force it. That should allow the rest of your apps to work.

so if anybody having this problem again
i get mine fixed by doing this :
1. Open any file explorer that have root access
2. Search for a folder named "system" and then look for a folder that says "etc"
3. Inside "etc" folder search for a file that says "host" . edit that text using any text editor
4. Delete everything in the host file
5. Save
I ended up fixing it by flashing another rom, using titanium backup to copy the play store. and then reflashed back to the original rom I was using and then restored with copy of the play store i previously had.

I haven't used it, but from what I read you have to put the apk in system/app, change permissions, reboot, then install. Not sure if that's what you did or if it'll work. But it's worth a try!

It could also be that since the stock camera itself isn't in perfect working order it's affecting anything camera related. Kudos for trying, though.
I'm running DH's Lollipop ROM and the Play store has been giving me -505 errors when I try to install certain applications. It is not during the download period, just when the app attempts to install itself. This happens with APKs as well. Is it an issue of Lollipop compatibility? I'm trying to download Chronus in particular.

Make sure that you did a clean install of the rom. If you were in TWRP there is a advanced wiping tab. Try wiping internal data (that does not wipe external sd card). This is probably a fix. If using some other recovery it should come with a similar feature. Hope this helped

Thanks, I tried that but still no luck so I just restored a nandroid. I've been digging around the N5 forums because they've had Lollipop for a while and it looks like it's a common thing with 5.0.

I had the same issue. Just curious, but did you try and use Titanium Backup at all? I did, and it failed. Must have broke something. A clean flash did the trick for me.
I had the same issue but only with apps that I attempted to restore with Titanium. I had to do a full data wipe and reflash to be able to install those apps again.

Yea I did and it just hangs up on that restore until I FC the app and deselect from restore. With the ROM I'm using Chronus (for example) is an optionally app to be installed and it installs that way but isn't the most up to date version and the update from the Play Store doesn't install either. Weird issues for sure.

Clean flash Lollipop and DO NOT use TiBu. It must not be fully working on 5.9 yet. I had the exact same thing happen. Just let Google restore your apps.
TiBu

I have flashed the ROM and love it except this issue that I am also experiencing. I also have TiBu but did not use it for the app restore. Rather I used Google Play and it failed to install Any.do. I have tried manually and read extensively online and the problem appears to be related to Adobe air not being Lollipop compatible. I finally email Anydo and they are aware of the issue and are providing me with a link to their upcoming lollipop beta. My point is I don't believe reflashing, re-restoring, or rummaging around in the data/data folder will fix the 505 error.

After reading further I decided to uninstall ALL Task apps, which included Chaos-Control. I was then able to install Any.DO. It was a permission issue and it conflicted with Chaos-Control. Lollipop is confusing app permissions. Find the like app, uninstall, and then install the app you want. That worked for me.
