Embedded for your pleasure...

The review uses a very slim case to test, do you have any other cases in hand that are slightly thicker that can be tested?
Nice review.

Thickest case I have is the Diztronic TPU and then the Cruzerlite XDA case. Both work and stick without issues. No sliding at all.

It doesn't charge the phone when it's off? That's stupid.

Works with this case, which is a sort of dual layer otterbox type knock off - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Layer-3-IN-1-Armor-Case-Cover-With-Stand-Black-For-LG-NEXUS-4-E960-/251226889746?
If it works with this case, it works with close to anything.

wonder how that would work if you have it mounted in your car and used as a car mount???? is the magnet pretty strong enough for bumps and what not on a daily drive??

I would say, no.

Good review. I wouldn't recommend using it as a car mount since it's one pothole or bump in the road away from cracking ur phone.

nice!
Awesome thank you! Was trying to find a review on this all I could find was pictures with people who've never used it!

You are welcome!

Thanks for this awesome review!

Last night I went to charge my nexus 4 before I went to bed, when I woke up the phone was pretty hot and it only charged to about 77% or so. I am running cm10.1 nightlies and I do use the dream scene or whatever its called. Haven't had an issue until last night. Just thought I'd point it out.

i charge the phone over night with it off. It charges up to 98% (safety) although there is no indication that it is charging.
If you want a way to see that its charging, like the animation when its plugged in and off, then:
-Shut the phone off
-plug the phone into the regular usb charger
-when you see the animation unplug it and put it on the orb.

It doesn't use magnets to adhere to the charger.

When my phone is charging I have the LED light on the front turn on(with the phone on) so i don't need to turn the screen on even to see if it's charging. That might be a specific feature of AOKP though. Also with the Orb when the battery is full, it's only a trickle charge so you should be fine to leave it there all night.
With the phone off all you need to do is tap the power button while it's on the charger and it will charge and show the charging screen instead of booting up.

In car wireless charging

i just put in the wireless charging mat in my car and its great. very useful. the way im using it is perfect for me in case any of you want to do the same.
what i bought was the LG charging mat (the cheap one) and killed the speaker in it so it doesnt beep constantly. i always drop my phone on top of the center console when i drive and (i know i shouldnt but) use it constantly to switch through songs while its connected to my car with bluetooth. and do other phone stuff like text once in a while (may i burn in hell, i know i know). the qi charging mat fit perfectly on the center console.
unfortunately, that charging mat came with a wall charger and not a usb charger. so i bought a power converter that went from a car charging port to a wall outlet.
it all fit perfectly and seeminglessly. i guess it depends on the car because not all cars have their cigarette lighters arranged the way i do.
here are some pictures of the outcome.
That looks great haha, does the charging mat "grip" the phone with a rubberized surface (or something of that sort) or do you have to worry about it sliding around?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That looks really good. I wish my car had its cigarette lighter in the center console instead of on the dash, if I do the same thing I will have wires running all over the place.
I would add one of those sticky pads on top of the charging pad to prevent the phone from flying off the charger in a short stop or sharp turn at 50 mph lol.
I have seen a few pick up trucks that have center consoles with a recessed cavity in it's armrest (late mode Chevys) that have potential for pad installs like yours.
Actually I have the ringke slim case on my phone so it doesn't slide around as much. But if the phone was naked, yeah it would fly off. The pad surface is pretty grippy though. Works perfect. It's even better because I put an NFC tag on it so every time I drop my phone on it, Bluetooth turns on, WiFi turns off. Lol
I can't see the images?

Does the N4 continually read the NFC tag when its placed onto it, draining the battery? or does the NFC only read once and shut off?
I always wondered this

Mentioned it in the op. I bought a converter/amp to convert the power from the car charger to a wall charger equivalent. The plug of the charging mat goes into that converter, then the converter goes into the car.
And the NFC just reads once every time you put it there. So no I don't think it's continuous. But yeah it works great Lol.

It wasn't quite clear to me as you are actually using an inverter with the stock wall wart, and right?
I have to think that using a cheap inverter (square wave) to power an ac-dc power supply is extremely inefficient. You may not want to keep this plugged in 24/7 as inverters can draw a fair amount of current just idling.
I sourced one of these - http://www.bixnet.com/12vdcto19vdc.html - that would be far more efficient, and and draw virtually nothing at idle. Seems 19vdc is more common than I thought as it is a common input for laptops.

Idk much about electrical engineering. I just went to Fry's and asked which one would do what I'm trying to achieve. When the car is not running, the cigarette lighters don't get any power. If that's what you meant by leaving it plugged in. Yeah I agree though, you can't really get efficient wall socket quality power. But the thing I bought gives just enough to power the lg charger which is all I need. I'm leaving it plugged in cuz it's practically turned off when the car is not running. But thanks for the heads up. I was more concerned about it overheating but my car is smart lol. Inside the center compartment there is an ac vent lmao. So while driving, air will just flow there.
And that link you gave. That thing looks like it would be perfect for me Lol. I might buy that one if the one I got gives me problems

I just got mine today. Sems to work fine. Fits under the original cover find. Although I feel it slightly (ever so slightly) buldges outward since when I put the phone back flat on a counter it can rock slightly, so that confirms its buldging outward. The charging thing is fine, although it didn't come with an adapter its just a USB cord that goes to a DC power (round) jack into the charging mat. So the USB part just goes into your existing charging adapter.

Mine didn't work when I just tested it, had some Samsung Tectiles sitting around.
Then took off the Qi receiver and it worked. Put the Qi receiver back on but made sure it was pushed as far left as possible while still on the contacts. Put the cover back on, and tested it again and it worked!
So I think the Qi receiver if not positioned properly is affecting the NFC antenna which is on the battery. Its basically covering a good portion of the battery.

I tried it, didn't work. I even slid the tectile under the receiver to see if it was covering the NFC antenna. Still nothing.
Have you tried just to remove the Qi receiver and put the cover back on and test it to make sure there isn't something else? If it works without the Qi receiver then it has go be the Qi receiver is blocking the NFC antenna too much.

I can get it to work with no Qi receiver, but no matter how I try to adjust the NFC tag or Qi receiver I'm getting nothing.
I'll keep playing with it to see if I can get it working. Thanks for the info. I'll post back if results change.
Yea the design of this Qi receiver wasn't done with NFC in mind since it blocks a good portion of the battery.
My NFC tag works with this wireless charger receiver installed. Reads tag just above the galaxy s4 logo
Has anyone gotten tasker to recognize the wireless charging?
Also, I've tried multiple different ways with NFC and tectiles. Nothing works. It's as if the Qi receiver is disrupting the NFC capabilities.

Anyone had any issues with this charger? By that I mean for the past few days since Ive got it I feel there is some flaw/issue with this.
It charged wirelessly just fine upto about 96-97%, no issues, then around that time (normally for me like 3-4am) it starts beeping. What I notice is that the charging mat goes has the green charging light go out, then come back on, causing the phone to beep saying "Charging Wirelessly" and it keeps doing this constantly every 30-60secs. It gets so annoying that I have to take it off the mat as I cant sleep with it constantly beeping. I tried to readjust the Qi receiver to make sure it wasn't the problem, still same thing. Tried using a different usb charger (instead of S4 supplied one, an iphone one since its a 1000mah one and not 2000mah one like the S4) and it still did the same thing.
Ive never had the charging mat show the FULL light.
Maybe I got a defective one. Not sure if the mat is defective or the receiver. Ive got a video of this as well (maybe send this to vivealive).

Mine only does that when the phone isn't placed properly on the charging pad.
I also have never seen the full light.

Count me in in not seeing the Full Charge indicator. I have emailed monsterwatts but haven't had any response. I've also had the same issue with the charger beeping regularly after it hits 100%. Not sure but might be returning this --if they ever respond.
Heres my video of what happens constantly starting at the 96% mark. After 5mins at 4am I just pull the damn thing off the charging mat. Sorry had to blur the screen, Im anal about that.

Mine has charged to 100% every time. I've been using it on the Google N4 charger though and not the charger it ships with.
Well woke up this morning to a dead phone. I woke up around 3am wondering why my phone hasn't beeped, so I turned the screen on, wouldn't turn on, Im like wtf? So I turned the phone on, and put it back on the mat. Fell asleep again, woke up at 8am and same crap. Both times the green charging light been on.
So then just hard plugged the phone in and it was charging, for some reason this time it refused the charge. This mat/receiver isn't looking too good for me now.

Looking at the teardown there doesn't seem to be any way to have something in body:

How many mA is your qi charger, and how many mA is your receiver on the phone? I know I shopped around for a 1A receiver for my S4, and it made a big difference in charge time. I am guessing, since the Note8 came with a 2A charger, it will need more of a draw to sustain power while it is on. I wonder if a 1A QI charger and a 1A receiver would still show a red X. I don't think the QI standard allows anything over 1A draw yet.
Any updates?
I understand it correct that it works, but very slow? This would be okey for me as it will be placed on the qi charger over night.
Please check in settings -> status if the charging mode is "AC" or "USB"!

Best wireless charger for galaxy s6

Hi XDA members
in your opinion what is the best wireless charger for galaxy s6
hope everyone give us the price and the link for the product
Well it really depends on your budget. In my case, I am on a tight budget so I'll probably settle on TechMatte Wireless Charger that is priced not more than $25. However, I would really like the official Samsung wireless charger that is priced at $45 on Amazon. It is good-looking, sleeker and has functional LED light indicator.
Here is a good article about S6 wireless charger:
http://www.androidauthority.com/best-wireless-chargers-samsung-galaxy-s6-600922/
Honestly anything that has 3 coils will do well for you. I recently purchased this charger from Amazon, and it's amazing. You don't have to play with alignment as there is more than one coil.

Yep.. ^^^^ what eep02b said.. I have the same exact one and it charges ridiculously good. No issues whatsoever. I've used a variety cases and it charges them with no issues. The thickest case I have is the Caseology and the Supcase.
I don't have the S6, but I do have the official Samsung charger.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Wireless-Charging-Pad-Packaging/dp/B00UCZGS6S
I'm using it for my S3, that has a wireless receiver inside since my charging port is rather finicky these days. It works fine for that and it's nice that it's low profile, which is what I wanted.
The downside is that since it's flat, not very useful if you wanna watch movies and such, but that doesn't bother me since I only use it before I go to bed. I generally don't run into alignment issues with it, but always a possibility with the single coil setup.
The official Samsung one works with any Qi enabled device, though if you are using it for any other device, besides the S6, like I'm currently doing with my S3, the LED indicator will not tell you when it's fully charged. It'll just tell you when it's on the pad.
I don't mind since I just use my phone's LED indicator light to let me know when it's fully charged. But, keep that in mind, if you want to use it for phones other than the S6.
The 3 coil setup is better in that you won't run into any alignment issues like you can run into with single coil set ups. If you get something like this TYLT charger, you can definitely watch movies and such since it's propped up.
http://www.amazon.com/TYLT-Wireless-Charger-all-Phones/dp/B00DG8NUC8
One other thing you wanna keep in mind with wireless charging in general. It will NOT charge your phone as fast as using the AC adapter (especially since it has fast charging capabilities) the phone came with. If you wanna charge your phone fast, wireless charging isn't the way to go. It's more of a convenience thing. Figured you knew that, but a friendly reminder never hurts.

Both works great, no issues at all. Might get the QiStone+ later on so that I can have a portable battery with wireless charging capabilities.

Do you have this issue with yours?
No, the only problem that I have with it is when my phone is fully charger and then the screen of my s6 lights up and the sound of the wireless charging plays, and its keep on doing it ever minute or so... I don't know if its the charger fault or the device itself
I have 3 of these around the house, work just fine for me, and they come in different colors and shapes;

I just got the new belkin charger and works great so far. Been using a cheap one from eBay and works good too.
Waiting on more from eBay soon and I'm sure they will work too.

No, the only problem that I have with it is when my phone is fully charger and then the screen of my s6 lights up and the sound of the wireless charging plays, and its keep on doing it ever minute or so... I don't know if its the charger fault or the device itself

Mine does the same thing on the Choe 3 coil. I stopped using it. Wish there was a way to fix this without root.

I have the same issue, the wireless charger charges my phone just fine. I have 3 separate ones and they all do it, once it gets to 100% it keeps making the charging noise on and off as it looses a bit of power and starts charging again, kind of annoying when it's by your bedside lol. Anyone know how to fix that?
I have the official Samsung charging pad, works like every other wireless charger. Not sure if it was worth the $40 I got it for but the charging LED is handy and it isn't too bright to sleep with (my opinion). It doesn't have any starting/stopping charging issues at 100%.

Just bought this a few days ago, absolutely love it. I've set it down maybe 50 times, never missed a charge or needed to re-position it. For $25, you can't go wrong. Only minor down side is the surface is pretty smooth, so people without a case, I could see this sliding off. I use a clear Spidgen case, and have no issues at all charging with the case on.

Dock or Cradle for the G5?

I really miss wireless charging, and was hoping to find a dock or cradle I could pop my phone into so it can charge. There are a ton of Type C docks on Amazon. Anyone buy one or have any recommendations? Let me know!
Would not recommend this type, worked ok plugged into a PC for charging for a few weeks but not so well now. Never worked for docking to PC, always throws up errors - works fine with same cable (not the one supplied cos that was rubbish) and adaptor.
Haven't had a chance to test second battery charging capacity but judging by main bit it'll be bobbins.
It's also unstable, so if you go to swipe the screen (or even lightly brush it) it'll topple.
I was looking at that one..But it doesn't look like it would work with a case (out a thick one). I ordered this one from Amazon. Waiting for it...I'll let you know

I was looking for one open on the sides and deep enough to get up into the case.
Waiting for it...I'll let you know in a couple days.

Basically the same as the one I wouldn't recommend. Even if it charged well, it's still pretty unstable and wobbles massively when you touch the phone. You'd need to stick it to something to stop the wobble.
Hmm... I'll keep searching
Edit: THIS OR THIS ONE
I bought this one:

It's been great. Holds the phone firmly, sometimes too tight to get it off, but you'll get the hang of it. It's adjustable so it fits a case too.
It was a little finicky with some 3rd party QC2.0 wall chargers, but works fine with the LG Charger, Tronsmart charger and Anker chargers.
Just a quick review of my impressions of the WeCell dock.
I found it to be quite sturdy. Doesn't want to tip over, but you do require two hands when taking it from the dock as it's too light. Could be fixed to a surface to fix that. If your looking for something that doesn't take much space on a bed side table...it is space saving.
The USB connector pivots about 20 degrees which can make it a little tricky to dock, but after using it a few times I found it easy to dock properly.
I noticed that you should use the provided cable with the stock lg charger to get a proper charge. Was a little inconsistent with the Anker charger.
Overall it's a ok charger, but if your looking for something to use one handed, might want to check out the one posted above.
