The review uses a very slim case to test, do you have any other cases in hand that are slightly thicker that can be tested?
Nice review.

Thickest case I have is the Diztronic TPU and then the Cruzerlite XDA case. Both work and stick without issues. No sliding at all.

It doesn't charge the phone when it's off? That's stupid.

wonder how that would work if you have it mounted in your car and used as a car mount???? is the magnet pretty strong enough for bumps and what not on a daily drive??

I would say, no.

Good review. I wouldn't recommend using it as a car mount since it's one pothole or bump in the road away from cracking ur phone.

Last night I went to charge my nexus 4 before I went to bed, when I woke up the phone was pretty hot and it only charged to about 77% or so. I am running cm10.1 nightlies and I do use the dream scene or whatever its called. Haven't had an issue until last night. Just thought I'd point it out.

i charge the phone over night with it off. It charges up to 98% (safety) although there is no indication that it is charging.
If you want a way to see that its charging, like the animation when its plugged in and off, then:
-Shut the phone off
-plug the phone into the regular usb charger
-when you see the animation unplug it and put it on the orb.

It doesn't use magnets to adhere to the charger.

When my phone is charging I have the LED light on the front turn on(with the phone on) so i don't need to turn the screen on even to see if it's charging. That might be a specific feature of AOKP though. Also with the Orb when the battery is full, it's only a trickle charge so you should be fine to leave it there all night.
With the phone off all you need to do is tap the power button while it's on the charger and it will charge and show the charging screen instead of booting up.

Someone has posted otherwise. I can say as my phone has only been off once since getting it.

[Q] How does wireless charging works?

This might look like a stupid question. But I really wanted to know how is a phone charged without a wire connection. I mean you need to pass electrons while charging right? There must be a layer of air(No matter how slight) in-between the charger and the device which has a resistance of about 10^13 to 10^16 ohms. So how does the electrons passes through this layer?

Thanks. I just got it. The process is something like an electric transformer. Just one part of it is on the charger side, and the other is inside the Cell phone. So ain't we wasting a lot of power through the process. I mean efficiency is never 100%, is it?

I believe the wasted power is related to the coil's material (the less resistive, the less dissipated power).
So yes, efficiency could never be 100% because there's no material with 0 resistivity.

I mentioned compared with the wired charger. It's wastage r8? And it's not really wireless(got a cable between the charger and wall socket) so what's the point?

I can't recall correctly, but there will be a little bit more of wasted power compared to wired charging (due to the air's permeability to let the electromagnetic field produced by the coil "flow")
Well yes, it's still wired, but the joke is to not plug the phone.
Personally, I always charge my phone on the same spot when I'm home, so it certainly could come in handy.

So you are keeping the charger plugged into the wall socket all the time? If not than I still didn't get the point why if yes you are wasting a lots of energy of over the day. I thought we are looking for an energy efficient world. I'm I wrong?
I do support if it's built inside a cars dashboard or something like that. Just to put the phone on your dashboard and it's charging. But in case of home still wired is better. Though if it was something like wifi that could work from a distance would make a good point. You know what I mean....

Car dock questions

Sorry if this has already been posted. I have the Note 4 and I am new to wireless charging. I wanted a car solution that's completely wireless (ie charging and audio). I've been looking at The Air Dock but I'm still not sure if that will be the best solution. Does anyone have any experience with that?
Also, I'm thinking that I will go with an internal receiver but I just read that there are 1mm thick ones and 0.5mm thick ones. Guess I should try to get a 0.5mm thick receiver? What is the max current that I can get with these coils? Is it enough to charge the phone while running Google Maps, Pandora, bluetooth, etc?
I will probably want a case as well. What do I need to know so that it will work with a wireless charger? I saw some car chargers that have you put a slim metal plate in your case so that magnets can hold onto the phone, which I like. Should I look for something like this? Will that also work with The Air Dock?
Sorry about all the questions! I'm just trying to make sure I get the best dock for my phone.

Just a suggestion, wireless charging is not capable of taking advantage of the Quick Charge 2.0 feature and to my way of thinking the car would be the place you'd want the fast charging. I got an Incipio Quick Charge 2.0 12v adapter for my car.

Thanks for the suggestion but I was wondering if it was possible to wireless charge and still run all these apps. I understand it won't be a quick charge or anything but as long as the charge is enough to keep the battery at neutral or positive charge then that's fine. I would assume the answer is yes

With my Note 3, a 2 amp wired charger was barely able to charge with Google Navigation running. I think you would lose charge doing the same thing with a wireless charger.

Agreed. Current wireless charging probably wouldn't be able to keep up with the high battery demands of navigation, streaming music, Bluetooth, and the screen.

Trouble with Note 4
So I got my new Air Dock 2.0 in and I'm having trouble with getting the Note 4 to stick with this case even though it's glossy. Also, (and I knew this would be an issue, ugh!) the wireless adapter inside the phone isn't CENTERED in the phone so of course it won't wireless charge when the phone is CENTERED on the Air Dock!! This makes me so mad! The damn adapters should be centered so any dock will work once the phone is centered...
Lastly, does anybody have any apps that will automatically launch once connected to the Air Dock??

Ok but how can I trigger it in the car? If I use wireless triggers won't it also trigger it when I get home and charge my phone on my wireless charger?

are you using it with the samsung wireless charging back? if so, any chance of some pics? also, are you using the nano-foam or magnets and for either, how "grippy" is it? the roads around me are full of potholes so cant have my note 4 flying off.

Ugh so I'm frustrated with the Air Dock. It's GREAT with my Nexus 5...it seems to be designed especially for that. My wife's Note 4? Not so much. I bought the wireless adapter that you put in the back of the phone to activate wireless charging but it takes all of 1 second to realize the coil inside that adapter is not centered with the phone. It's directly over the battery which is offset. So when the phone is put on the Air Dock it needs to be slightly off of the Air Dock to get a good charge going. Well this means there's less contact between the phone and Air Dock. The other thing I noticed is the case on the phone matters as well. Originally I had a softer, flat case on the phone which worked okay with the Air Dock but then that got dirty so my wife got a more glossy one that has a slight curve in the back. I think this may actually be caused a little by the wireless adapter protruding in the back. It's a very tight case so it's more noticeable. I can provide links to the cases if you want. I emailed the Air Dock with a picture of the phone's wireless adapter but they just said to try to use the magnetic sticker included and keep it clean. The magnetic sticker doesn't do much, especially for a big phone like the Note 4. I'm tempted to actually cut a really thin sheet of metal and stick it back there instead. Sorry this is long but I'm frustrated and ended up buying the iBolt dock for my wife which is fine but I really wanted to use the Air Dock. It's a great concept it's just not the best design. I even had my friend 3D print a sort of dock and then stuffed those super powerful magnets in it and it sort of worked but then it blocked the charging too much. Ugh

Anyone using a good stand-alone USB charging dock (non-Qi)?

I'm looking for one that holds the entire phone, not just the battery. I would like it for my desk at work and not a Qi charger, but a USB dock.
The style I see on Amazon is the same one just dressed up by various vendors and may be OK, but I would like a very nice quality dock if possible.

Ouch. No response. OK, I may go ahead and try a "universal" charging stand, one that will hold my phone and my LG adapter. When I find the "right one", I will post back FWIW.

I have that in my cart still! How is the balance with the phone inserted? Can you use the touchscreen reliably while docked?

I bought it with the included charger and cable since it was only a few cents more than without and I thought the 90 degree angled cord would be pretty cool, but it turns out that this cable will NOT work with the fast charger. It works with any brand wall plug as long as it is not a quick/fast charger. So, no biggie I guess. The stand is very sturdy and stable. I can use the touchscreen while docked without any issues. Totally not as convenient as having a drop in stand with a charger built in. I have to manually plug it in when charging is desired. So, for 10 bucks, I am keeping it and I may get the one you have for convenience sake.

The one I bought also charges the second battery. That's why I got that one.

Dock or Cradle for the G5?

I really miss wireless charging, and was hoping to find a dock or cradle I could pop my phone into so it can charge. There are a ton of Type C docks on Amazon. Anyone buy one or have any recommendations? Let me know!

Would not recommend this type, worked ok plugged into a PC for charging for a few weeks but not so well now. Never worked for docking to PC, always throws up errors - works fine with same cable (not the one supplied cos that was rubbish) and adaptor.
Haven't had a chance to test second battery charging capacity but judging by main bit it'll be bobbins.
It's also unstable, so if you go to swipe the screen (or even lightly brush it) it'll topple.

I was looking at that one..But it doesn't look like it would work with a case (out a thick one). I ordered this one from Amazon. Waiting for it...I'll let you know

Basically the same as the one I wouldn't recommend. Even if it charged well, it's still pretty unstable and wobbles massively when you touch the phone. You'd need to stick it to something to stop the wobble.

It's been great. Holds the phone firmly, sometimes too tight to get it off, but you'll get the hang of it. It's adjustable so it fits a case too.
It was a little finicky with some 3rd party QC2.0 wall chargers, but works fine with the LG Charger, Tronsmart charger and Anker chargers.

Just a quick review of my impressions of the WeCell dock.
I found it to be quite sturdy. Doesn't want to tip over, but you do require two hands when taking it from the dock as it's too light. Could be fixed to a surface to fix that. If your looking for something that doesn't take much space on a bed side table...it is space saving.
The USB connector pivots about 20 degrees which can make it a little tricky to dock, but after using it a few times I found it easy to dock properly.
I noticed that you should use the provided cable with the stock lg charger to get a proper charge. Was a little inconsistent with the Anker charger.
Overall it's a ok charger, but if your looking for something to use one handed, might want to check out the one posted above.
