Some benchmark points missing - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi everybody!
I am in a situation described somewhat by the title. My tf700 is so freakin' tweaked that the last thing I can do is grab a class 10 microSD card and do the I/O fix (not done yet). I am on CROMI 3.3 (rooted, unlocked, but this is obvious ), OC kernel by _that with the ROW addon, which came just after Clemsyns kernel, so the performance mode is even more kick-ass, as it stayed after kernel flash. Fsync disabled, lag fix applied. Yeah, pretty much everything except I/O fix. The problem is my top bemchmark result is about 6700, while I expect ~7150 (well, some users with same specs as mine get ~7150). Done right after a coldboot, with all the useless apps killed, forced GPU. I don't really care abot the result, but it seems like there is some performance potential missing, yet to be used... Would be really nice if someone would be able to point out the reason of this.

post a screenshot as an attachment so some good samaritan can see the cpu / io / memory / 2d /3d figures... and which one is low...

Seems like you're not hitting 1800 OC, can you download "cpu spy" and see if you actually hit 1800 in performance mode? and make sure you set your governor to "interactive".

Yeah, haha, I can't post pictures in this forum, cause XDA Premium app says so. Neither can I post URLs as I am still below 10 posts. Anyway, I'm using interactive governor. According to cpu spy my tf700 uses every frequency with no problem.
My latest benchmark results (I updated bootloader today):
Overall - 6909
CPU - 16475
Mem - 4273
I/O - 10648
2D - 833
3D - 2318
CPU result seems quite high, ain't it? I think that 2D is the problem, though I haven't compared it yet...

6400+ is great performance. Quadrant is not a very good consistent bench marker. You can run it 10 times and get scores wildly varying by 500 points. I couldn't get over 7000 for 2 days. Thought something was up and then suddenly with no changes 7200.
Don't worry about it. Does the ROM feel quick?

Good a true words ^^^
I get low scores with Quadrant, yet I don't believe them because 3.3 CROMi is very smooth and shows no indications of stutter.

Memory Specifications & Speed Issues

I've read several posts where people were having various speed/lag issues. There is a dedicated thread about the TF300 being almost unusable when a market update is being downloaded. I have the same problem on mine. Also have the occasional stall on a webpage, but it doesn't happen often. I have seen no other thread dedicated to the internal memory so I guess this will be the first!
So my questions are:
1) Is this due to a file system issue? (On the SGS, we used VooDoo Lagfix to change the FS to EXT4 which greatly increased the speed)
2) One person suggested that the TF300 uses single-channel memory (I don't know what is meant by this as I know the TF300 has DDR3 whereas the Prime uses DDR2)
3) How is the internal memory mounted? I haven't seen anyone tear one of these open yet. I remember a smartphone that was taken apart to find that the "internal" storage memory was nothing more than a micro-sd card! It could be replaced with a faster class memory to improve performance.
I think it's the I/0 scheduler.

Well, I identified the file system - EXT4. So that's not the problem.
What's the I/O scheduler entail? Is that something that's controlled by the OS? Perhaps a custom ROM or an update from ASUS can fix it?
Subbed.
The stock browser is painfully laggy.

The I/O scheduler is part of the kernel. It can be fixed by an update from Asus, but I wouldn't expect them to change it any time soon. Apparently, if you go to the Prime dev forums, there is a module to add support for the Simple I/O scheduler, which is supposed to run well on the Transformer tablets. Not sure if it would work on the stock kernel, but you could try.
Trying the SI0 schedualer from the AOKP rom and the speed issues pretty much went away.

Looks like success with the IO scheduler is erratic. I'll watch that thread for a few more days before I take the plunge.

Just sent my tablet back for warranty because of this, didn't see many complaints on it so I figured I had a lemon (in addition to insane backlight bleeding)
Somewhat worried now that I've seen this thread. Subscribed, hopefully some information will pop up. I'll post results when I get my tablet back.

My tf201 is more stable than my tf700

I have been noticing my tf700 seems inconsistent. Runs smooth sometimes and then laggy and jerky other times. I just got the .22 update and no difference. I have done a couple factory resets and partition cache wipes. I get alot of waits in apps and in the browsers. My tf201 runs much smoother than this.
I went ahead and tried some benchmarks to see if all this was noticed in scores also. I tried these benchmarks before and after reboots and at random times to look for fluctuation. Each time on performance mode. And by golly scores fluctuated alot.
Quadrant 3300 to 5100
Antutu 4600 to 12600
CF-Bench I haven't been over 4700
My tf201 is very consistent. Overclocked to 1.6
Quadrant 4900 to 5200
Antutu 11900 to 12400
CF-Bench 7400 to 7900
Can anyone tell me if they are seeing the same inconsistency, from running great to lag and poor behavior that I'm seeing.

Yeah it seems to be inconsistent too because it's running a Java virtual machine...
Can you try and install WW firmware update, because I've noticed US firmware update is somehow screwed up.
Also noticed the performance degradation right after using US F/W.
It seems real smooth after flashing JP F/W update (it runs a bit hot too) but I never ran benchmarks on that FW.
So do tell your experiences on other FW updates. And as you can imagine it often run into OOM situations when extensively used.

I don't understand why JP and WW would be any different than the US version other than language. I haven't tried other versions on my other tablets and to be honest I am hoping Asus gets a fix to us.

Getting very consistent benchmark results. Quadrant around 5000 and antutu around 12500.
Only real issue I have is IO lockups.
I'm on US update.
I hope you understand that the TF201 has been on the market for some time now. That means they have had time to smooth out the bugs....at least the software portion. I have yet to see a real hardware issue so far, so the tablet can really only get better with time, and how much love it gets from Asus. And coming from the TF201, you should know how good Asus is about fixing their software.

Agreed. That's why I am hanging on to mine. I remember the prime issues. I just wanted to see how many out there are seeing similar issues.
I am however a little shocked that Asus hasn't come any further than this with the software for the Tf700. The firmware on the tf, tf201, and the tf300 are ahead of the firmware on the tf700. How many months have they been working on the tf700?

I know, it's unfortunate, but they'll fix it. They always do.
I just realized last night if I run in balanced mode rather than performance (which I tend to run on out of habit) my tablet runs much smoother. All the benchmarks I run show it also. Even though it needs a fix I am much happier now with a smoother experience.

I'm on TW and it's been better than .21 WW, but I'm not sure if it's the firmware itself or rather data wipe that helped.

[BENCHMARKS RESULTS] Post you benchmarks results here

As you can read from the title this thread is about benchmarks results, and decided to open this topic because is very hard to find them in this forum.
So far i,ve seen very different result with this device ,even two devices with the same firmware and no tweaks installed sometimes give a `very different result.
Also people were complaining for bad performance with the 9.4.5.22 firmware and is now happy and is getting better results with 9.4.5.26.
Well,in my case was the other way around,i`ve bought this device with 9.4.5.22 preinstalled and my benchmarks results were better than now with 9.4.5.26 (Antutu was 13.348 and now is 11562) so i wonder why so different results, this devices all have the same hardware.
Anyway, lets try to keep this topic clean and use some guidelines for posting the results, something like this:
Firmware ->> 9.4.5.26 stock or custom roms
CPU mode ->> balanced or performance
Antutu ->> your score
Specify if you are using any tweak
Offcourse you can post any benchmark you want, not only Antutu.Happy benchmarking

.26 stock (rooted), tweaks from my thread (see the signature)
balanced & interactive governor = 12431 in AnTuTu
performance & performance governor = 13558 / 13735 in AnTuTu
It's normal that the results will vary based on many factors, but they shouldn't vary TOO MUCH (>10%?).
You can also see some of my RL Benchmark (SQLite performance) results on .26 here.
Signature: Going to butthurt ban me? Well go ahead.
Do a cold boot after .26 update
Before a cold boot AnTuTu showed IO at 4xx in Balanced, forgot to test in Performance; I am using "x" for the numbers I do not remember
After a cold boot:
Balanced:
IO is 811, total is 12501
Performance:
IO 822, total is 13517
Not tweaked, not rooted, not unlocked
while being at .21 at the Performance mode IO was 64x and the total was 1350x
while being at .22 at the Performance mode total was 1310x
So looks like .22 was a bit slower than .21 but .26 is better than both at least at IO

Can you guys post your detailed results from Antutu? I was getting around 13k, but at the moment I'm scoring under 8k. I'm thinking the difference is mostly in the CPU benchmark results since those constitute the highest numbers in the overall score, but it would be nice to be able to compare each area and narrow it down.
Wish AnTuTu would get the update out allowing proper path to SD card.
It's scores don't reflect my card but the internal storage...

This is nothing of a surprise and the reason why comparing results is pretty much useless.
You can take results as an indicator for problems with your own device (if you have very bad results).
But they are not sufficient to compare with other android devices, not even with other infinity devices.
I have tried some of the benchmarks. Non told me what driver features it used. They did not even mention if they use the multi-core.
Also they do not check what performance mode is set, probably they will never be able to do this. Also users here usually do not mention it.
You can not be sure what apps and tasks run in the background. Does the sql test disable caching?
What firmware version is installed? Do they have the same hardware?
I feel I could go on forever with this.
There are just too many factors you can not control...

Benchmark after cold boot
Firmware --> stock 9.4.5.26 - rooted - everything default
Governor -- > interactive
CPU mode --> balanced
RL Benchmark --> first run =58 second run = 74 third run = 68
AnTuTu --> 12514 (CPU=7670,GPU=1318,RAM=2848,I/O=678) first run
12634 (CPU=7649,GPU=1319,RAM=2920,I/O=746) second run
12497 (CPU=4766,GPU=1314,RAM=2913,I/O=804) third run
BTW,i don't worry too much about the benchmarks results and i believe that real life user experience is more accurate.

[Q] How to increase performance?

hi everyone
i benchmarked my tf300 with antutu and i watched that in the top of the list were tf300 with scores of 17000 points...
thats pretty much in comparasion with 11000 points that a normal(not rooted & tweaked) pad could reach.
if someone knows mods and tweaks how to get these points please post it here just to increase the standarts of our tf300
cheers
I want to know that too.
installing custom roms warp drive is great and cromi-x too then use an oc kernel

I can't say you will get 17,000 but incrasing the overclock to 1.7 Ghz will improve the score. Download Husdbauh;s utility from here:
http://www.noobzunited.de/owncloud/public.php?service=files&t=68342692d484220b5908ec56ad31c607
That utility will allow you to increase the CPU and GPU speeds. It also gives you the capability to save your preferred clocks to the default settings "Power Saving", "Balanced" and "Performance" modes. Then when you select those modes in the future your saved settings will be applied.
Also disabling fsync will improve performace but at the risk of losing data should your system lock up or crash. That said, I have been using it for several weeks without any problem. You have to select that feature when you flash the ROM. Otherwise you can download and use "Pimp My ROM" to set fsync off. "Pimp My ROM" also has several other tweaks for improving performance but be careful what you select and that you understand the risks with each tweak. Move slowly and only select one tweak at a time, trying each one before you move on. Finally, run the benchmarks more than once. On any given run, your tablet may be doing something in the background that could effect performance.
I noticed the high scores to which you refer (the top three) are running Android 4.1.1. From what I have seen the older version seems to run faster than 4.2. Not sure why since I didn't overclock mine until after I had updated to 4.2.
I am running the same ROM and kernel as you are and I got 6804 on Quadrant and 15414 on Antutu for my high scores @1.7 Ghz.
All of that said, if you do any heavy gaming or graphics intensive stuff I wouldn't recommend leaving your tablet overclocked. I haven't had any stability problems myself but I don't do any heavy 3D work or play. Others have reported problems when doing so.
Thank u very much for your detailed answer....i would say that even with fsync off and forced 2D my benchmarks are the same...ill try to overclock even the gpu to see what will happen..

[Q] Some nonspecific whining about performance...

Hey all -
I have been a Transformer (and modding) fan since my TF101, and I just leapt from a TF201 to the infinity.
I'm not sure quite what I was expecting, but I surely wasn't expecting it to be slower. Responses to screen taps and swipes are very delayed, to the point where it's extremely annoying.
This is all subjective, I realize, but I was wondering if this is a widespread thing or if I should try to RMA it.
I had heard that CROMi-X was the rom to have, so I flashed 4.6.7.
I had also heard that the GPU was an ass-kicker, so I put on my favorite piece of eye-candy (that I've purchased) which is "Asphalt 7: Heat." - and it ran DOG SLOW, and wasn't particularly candy-ish.
Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but having the 201 and 700 side-by-side (literally, driving one with each hand, and poorly at that) the 700 was choppy and would pause every so often. It took MUCH longer to load, too.
So I was unhappy.
I read about the slow internal I/O and re-flashed with a Data2SD option, formatted the microcard, the whole nine yards, and it didn't really get any better. fsync is turned OFF.
I side-graded to the older CleanROM Inheritance 3.4.7, and it actually seems SLIGHTLY better, but the UI has a tendency to be very laggy.
I'm going to try "AndroWook" next, I had that on my Prime with good success.
I've googled and found plenty, plenty plenty of people who have a problem with the TF700 and its speed, which is really disappointing because it's supposed to be the top of the line.
So.. is anyone out there really HAPPY with their TF700? Is it zippy and satisfying? What ROM are you using?
Maybe I'll try to unload it on craigslist and go back to the TF201. It has lower "Androbench" marks, but is crazy more responsive.
*shrug*
I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts...

Just learned about 'lagfix.'

Is 4.1.1 better performance? I realize it'd technically be a step backwards...

I'm still using 4.1.1. I run Cromi 3.4.6 with Hund's kernel 2.2, along with most of the tweaks found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232715). I am not running data2sd and my CPU/GPU profiles are not as aggressive. Apparently some people have been getting bootloops after applying these tweaks but I've never had it.
I've tried 4.2 several times (with different versions of Cromi-X) but usually come back to 4.1.1 within a day because it seems to run better.
Having said this, I think "lags" can be quite subjective - I personally think my tf700 is zippy but perhaps you wouldn't agree.

It is odd. With what you said, your TF700 should be very smooth unless there is a hardware problem Did you try a clean install? BTW, if you reinstall again, I would recommend that you should use Cromi X V4.6.5 instead of 4.6.7.
For some reason when I used the Advanced Wipe and wiped everything in TWRP. I still found some old files on my internal SD. However, when I used a formatted option, everything was gone and clean. Maybe you should do that. Also if you use Data2Ram, you should reformat your MicroSD as the same time with your clean install. A combination of Fsync Off, D2R, and Cromi X should work very well. My kernel is Hund's V3.0.6 with OC of 1.4G CPU, 520M GPU for Power Saving, 1.6G CPU, 600M GPU for Normal, and 1.8G CPU, 650M GPU for my Performance with UV about 35mV. My quandrant scores are 5800 for Power Saving = Game Mode, 6400 for Normal = Normal Activities, and 7000s for Performance = Browsing and streaming movies. Please report back if you decide to do a clean install, thanks and good lucks.
Here are my settings and quadrant scores using Hund 2.2:
Power Saving - GPU 650Mhz, CPU 1.45/1.4Ghz - Quadrant 5331
Balanced - GPU 700Mhz, CPU 1.65/1.6Ghz - Quadrant 6336
Performance - GPu 775Mhz, CPU 1.85/1.8 Ghz - Quadrant 7005
Personally I take the quadrant scores with a grain of salt because I've had setups where the scores were better but the tablet was not as responsive. I mostly run on Power Saving mode without any problems.

Several totally clean installs at this point.
AndroWook was bust, it didn't even get past the "ASUS" logo.
I'm back to Cromi 3.4.7 with _that's kernel 3.1.10. A lot of folks are mentioning Hund 2.2, perhaps I'll try overlaying that now.

Having said this, I think "lags" can be quite subjective - I personally think my tf700 is zippy but perhaps you wouldn't agree.

I totally agree. I added a bunch of the PimpMyRom tweaks and rebooted. I'm letting it settle down and then going to see what's what.
I can't get the GPU overclock to take, though. I think I've mounted the FS r/w and I'm editing the GPU cap files to contain 1460 as directed, but the next time I open the file it's back to 1300. Weird.
So, my Quadrant score after all the tweaks were put in, on "Balanced," is 5266. On "Performance," it's 5139.
Erugh?

Strange. I get 5200 in balanced mode without any special tweaks, and over 6000 in performance mode with fsync off.
The general user experience is acceptable, but not exceptionally smooth - lost frames in animations are common, but there are no long waiting times anywhere.

Did I mention I also have fsync off?
('Coz I do.)
Maybe it's faulty, which would make me sad because I doubt I can return it what with unlocking and flashing the crapola out of it. Hm hm.

That is really odd. Unfortunately my knowledge of tweaking is entirely based on following other people's instructions so I don't know why the GPU changes are not taking. Are your CPU changes taking? Did you follow the instructions on init.d scripts/enabling his voltage table and governor tweaks?
Here's are my cpu.sh files. I switched the profile for powering saving mode and balanced mode because the tablet always defaults to balanced mode.
-----------------------
Also, when I made the profile too aggressive (too high on CPU or GPU), the tablet got way hot and my quadrant score dropped. Since our tablets are all different on the amount of overclocking they can handle, maybe you're pushing your tablet too much. Have you tried easing down on overclocking?

LOL I totally agreed with on that. However, I still think that it is better with some numbers as references others than words lags, smooth, choppy, slow, fast, and so on. :good: It is just my way of explanations.
This might be my final entry - after doing the PMR tweaks, and flashing Hund 2.2 (no offense, _that ) the Quadrant score in Performance mode is ... uh.. well, indeterminate because suddenly I can't attach to our wifi. Sigh. Perhaps I overtweaked.
Although, Asphalt ran VERY smoothly. I credit the GPU overclock, in combination with assigning all the 2D stuff to the GPU.
Yeah, definitely. After flashing hund 2.2, it won't acquire an IP address.
Today is surely an interesting day.

You probably have problems because of PMR tweaks I remember I also had wifi issues after PMR and I think I didn't enable all the tweaks in the guide. Try PMR recovery where it restores all your previous settings-it should restore your wifi. If not, then maybe a clean install of Cromi and then doing the init.d/Hund/CPU/GPU tweaks should give you quite a bit of performance boost.
Hope by "final entry" you don't mean you're giving up!

Yeah, it seems as if the "Fast DNS" internet tweak means it has somehow thrown off DHCP.
I'm connected to the wifi AP, but I get no IP address, etc.
I guess I'll flash the recovery thing. Darn, everything but that was working great
No, I had meant to say 'final entry' insofar as I was finally happy with it - but while i was typing it, I wanted to put in the Quadrant score, and then I realize I couldn't connect to the website, and then I realized I had no IP, and here we are.
So that post sort of morphed as I was typing...

Huh.
Wont' flash, at least not with twrp 2.4.4.0
Growf.

Which is just as well, since when I rebooted I had an IP again.
Recovery image went south too, and I had to re-flash that via adb.
There is truly some weird stuff happening here.
Anyway, the quadrant score - now on "Performance" because I swapped cpu2 and cpu3, what a great idea - is...
IS.....
IS.....
5057.
Ah, the hell with it.

Wow, that is just odd. Does the tablet get really hot when you run quadrant? It might be that the GPU/CPU settings are too high. Hope actual performance is still working out for you.
And as for recovery, I meant running the rescue package inside PMR that "un-pimps" the rom. Thinking back on when I installed the tweaks, I think I did everything mentioned in PMR except for Network & Internet mods. And I love the xloud mod!

It was pretty warm, yeah. I knocked the cpu back from 1900mhz to 1800mhz - which doesn't seem to matter since according to the little floating CPU monitor I have ("Cool Tool") it's never going over 1600mhz anyway.
I mean, I've got PMR trying to control stuff on one hand, the built-in "Power Saving/Balanced/performance" thing on the other, and also "Trickster Mod"
Idunno.
It does seem perkier after all this, so maybe it doesn't matter.
I wish Quadrant would let me see my score without hitting the internet though. I backed off the voltages by 0.025v per speed, and came up with 5499 this time. Although I don't know whether that's "performance" or what.

Did you use Hundsbuah's app to set whatever parameters need to be set?
Sorry for not being more specific, I have no experience with it, I just know Hundsbuah didn't only add awesome overclocking features into his kernel, but he also wrote an app to control it.

Is Asphalt still running better than before? I think the most important thing is that the applications you use are running smoothly and not upsetting you that (1) you spent $$$ on the tablet, (2) you spent a lot of time tweaking the tablet, and (3) you're not getting the performance you want.
I once spent a few hours tweaking CPU/GPU to figure out how I can maximize Quadrant score and what I came away from it is that high score doesn't matter if the tablet is getting way to hot for comfort and that low score doesn't matter if the tablet is running to my satisfaction. I almost never change my power setting and that means my score is probably around 5300, but I still like how the tablet responds.
Anyways, hope your tablet's running better than before and good luck with any additional tweaking! :victory:

Well.. that's just madness.
No, I was not. I had these other tools and was messing with those.
Might be time to re-flash the kernel again.
