I figured I would get an updated reliability poll going since many people are getting their TF and docks now.
Many of you have reported multiple issues with their device. Please vote for ALL options that apply to your situation.
Thanks and vote away!
There's no poll to vote in that I can see.
Edit: there she is.
fail!!!!!!
It's up guys. It just takes a while to get it created. For some reason, the post comes up before the poll is completed.
Light leak and creakiness here. Not sure if I should RMA or not considering I could receive one with issues that are worse.
Light leakage, dust under the screen, very small gap between display and bezel and creakiness here
The question is whether you will keep in spite of the defects.

I had the following:
Light Bleed: Not even sure it is avoidable with this type of screen.
Screen wasn't flush with the housing on the right center inside.
2 dead pixels.
The screen was off center or skewed. Kind of like an old CRT monitor that you had to mess with to center.
The back has some give but I'm not sure its an issue. Its wide, weight seems evenly distributed and it doesn't seem frail or weak.
I returned mine to the vendor for a replacement due to the off center screen and dead pixels. I only hope that the replacement doesn't suffer from the same issues. I should know by the middle of next week.

I have the same issues (light leak, creaky corner) but I don't feel they hinder my experience enough that I need to return it.

Unfortunately I'm out of time to get it replaced by the store where I purchased it and ASUS Italy repair facilities still can't accept any RMA for the TF101.
The tablet itself works fine so I'll just wait some time until they'll have solved most of their HW production issues, then I'll submit a RMA ticket.
It is alarming that the vast majority have some king of issue. This is really not common for Asus based on other products they sell. They're actually considered one of the most reliable manufacturers of all.

Only problem with saying the vast majority have some issue is this may not be true or any real indication seeing as internet community behaviour is such that people post to moan when they've got problems and less likely to scream and shout about a perfect device as they're more than happy playing with it doing other things. Just saying that's all. I will have my TF bundle Friday night when I collect it so will be able to see if it's got any issues I notice but if it's perfect I won't be posting to say how great it is if it's perfect I'll be too busy enjoying it lol
Mine was dead right out of the box. Wouldn't even power on. I returned it and am now waiting for my amazon preorder to come. I am so glad i did'nt cancel that. If that one has problems, i'm gonna wait for the samsung
Question, does the build quality matter where the tf was made. I don't have my tf yet but I seen in a video that the box of one tf said "Made In China."
Were everybody's tf made in China?
Maybe this can determine where the bad eggs are coming from.

My main issue was the dock, but after receiving a dock firmware upgrade everything works flawlessly. Once HC 3.1 hits, it will be the best tablet ever.
I am going to refrain from voting for a few days, aside from one SOD I've had zero problems with either the tablet or the dock so far, I will wait a few days though before voting.
I understand that there is a huge bias towards those having problems as those that don't are less likely to report. However, such a poll can be helpful in indicating the majority of the problems people are having. It is alarming, still, that there is such a high disparity between those without problems and that do. I was expecting, well, hoping, that it wouldn't be this bad.
doron: They're all made from the same location/plant I'm sure. That's not the issue.
and now my housing separation is getting worse. first it was all tight and no creaks, then creaky and squishy on the left side (the lower left corner, could be squeezed). a day later the right bottom corner is squishy, but not as bad as the left.
last night the left side has increased to up to half the left side being slightly separated.
i'm almost 93.269% sure this thing's going back... if it does i'll have a dock and skin for sale at a pretty good price.
as reliable as their laptops are rated it's actually disappointing to hear all these mfg problems with their tablet. it's not like this is their first tablet.
I'm debating on sending mine in.
What we really need is an official announcement from Asus stating "yes, the first batch had manufacturing issues but the next batch is better. If you are experiencing XXX (IE: Light Leaks) Then please send it back for a full replacement"
I too have light leakage and my backing is lose around the bottom where the dock goes. It bubbles a bit. My dock also doesn't want to stay connected when the trackpad is in use (firmware coming i hear) so...
I know Asus responds to a few of these posts and all but a total PR about the issues would be far better than 100's of reviews stating "X Problem" and then people just overall assume the product is poorly built...which it is currently.
I do love it tho, but next one released with a keyboard at a reasonable price might find me as a buyer and Asus might find this one on the way back for a full refund.
My SD card won't eject. I feel it springing in a bit when I push it in, but it doesn't pop out.
Not a HUGE issue, but a definite QC failure. I may check with BB in a couple weeks to see if they have any stock and exchange it, but if not, it's only a minor issue. I slapped a 16GB card in there and I rarely remove it. I'll mostly use the USB ports and full size SD card slot in the dock.
I have a TF300t and I really like it allot... I dont seam to have any bleeding issue of any dead pixels but the case seams loose and creaks right around the headphone jack right where I hold it all the time. Also the volume up button gets stuck every once in a while. I purchased it on 5/28 so best buy will still exchange it for the next few days.
So what do you think ? chance getting a worse one and bring it back or just deal with the annoying creaking ?
I would change if I was you... you paid for something new and well done
If you're able I would buy another first and compare it to see if there are any issues worse than the one that you already have and then decide which one to keep. But If the issues you have are bothering you I would not settle for it. Like the above poster mentioned, you paid for it. Good luck.
I think I will exchange it out anyone know when the 700 will drop in the us ?

the end of this June, according to android authority
I purchased my first tf700 from Newegg 5 or 6 weeks ago. The build was excellent. No screen separation issues and little light bleed. I ended up RMAing the device due to a weird screen issue where it was randomly tapping/swiping by itself every now and then.
I just received my new device which has an 80 serial number, and the screen is separating. If you sight down the edge of the top you can see that it actually bows out quite a bit toward the middle, and it clicks when I press it. SO FRUSTRATING!
Newegg's RMA procedure is as painless as it can be for an online purchase, but I think I'll return this one for a refund and purchase from Best Buy so I don't have to spend the foreseeable future shipping Infinities back and forth.

Guys, there are like a thousand threads on these same issues already here, each with perfect solutions for dealing with the situation should it arise. Must we have yet another negative TF700 thread? My 700 is perfect, and so are the majority of people's as well. Continuing to populate the forums with these types of threads though does nothing but scare away potential developers from wanting to shell out the cash to pick up one of these tabs and develop awesome roms for us!
I do not mean to sound rude, nor am I flaming, but please, mods lock this thread before it spirals into something worse.
I agree with theanarchist that this is the same thread that we've all seen. But I also don't think most peoples tabs Are perfect. Some (like me) are still trying to find a perfect one And some have just accepted what they have and have given up. Others (like you) managed to get a perfect one.

Mine's not perfect, clicking near the hdmi port and you can click it from a good portion up towards the middle of the screen. I personally gave up on Asus, though hearing that there are people that have indeed perfect ones makes me wish I had exchanged it. I was hesitant because I had already returned a tf300 (screen issue) and then later the Prime that I had replaced the tf300 with. I had only returned the Prime to get the tf700, as I was pretty frustrated I couldn't get the gps to work EVEN with the dongle Asus sent me. I didn't have any wifi issues really nor any screen clicking issues with the Prime and though I like the infinity the screen clicking annoys me. Wondering if I should rma it directly to them, just don't want to get a different tab back or been in a worse situation as a result.

There was an earlier thread that theorized that the build issues were being addressed in the more recently built devices. I posted to show that even with the more recent 80 serial number devices, the same issues are present on at least a percentage of tf700s.
I certainly have no agenda. I'm on my second Infinity, which will unfortunately also be going back. The first one had some extreme screen separation on the right hand side. It was an C06 serial number. The one I'm on now, my second is a C80 serial number. The screen is good, with just a slight clicking in one spot on the right hand side. I'd live with it. However the light leaking out onto the screen along the bottom and right side from the LEDs is very very noticible.
I won't give up. I really love everything about the TF700 except for the build quality issues that I have experienced. I think the OP has a valid point in saying that the issues are not fixed yet. When my second unit came, I was psyched to see the serial number on the box said C80. I was very disappointed that it too has issues.
I think...

I don't think it's humidity. I live on the west coast of the US. Pretty dry here. I noticed a curve in the glass along the top of the screen as soon as I took it out of the box and removed the skin/wrapper. It's noticeably bowed out in the middle of that edge.
I just wanted to chime in to say that this is my 2nd C8. The 1st had a June build date and it came with the .22 firmware. I exchanged that one for this 2nd C8 which came with the .26 firmware and a 20120720 build date.
The 1st infinity had power and volume button issues and sharper than normal edges all around. I can't find anything wrong with the build on this second C8 other than the haptic feedback is set really low. (Does vibrate when power on)
I'm rooted and have the dmclient froze in titanium backup while I read up on NV flash. (Guarding against a forced OTA update) I made the mistake of applying the .30 OTA to soon last time.

Glad to hear that. Hopefully, 3rd time will be the charm. I really do LOVE this tablet, I just want one that's solidly built and works.
Agreed. I don't see how humidity is going to affect Corning's Gorilla Glass 2. Seriously don't see this being a factor at all.
I suppose I am one of the luck ones as well, no discernable bleeding edge light and completely flat screen. Of course, I bought the 64GB model from BB online, and it already have .26 on it when it arrived.
I too just returned my c8 version today that suffered from light bleed, mushy/sticky power and volume buttons, separating screen which also had sharp 90 edges. The one I just picked up is a night and difference from the first one. This one is a c9 version and other than a little light bleed the construction is solid. It doesn't even appear to be the same tablet....its like the first one was a cheap knock off. Another thing I am noticing with this new one is that the speed of touch feedback is so much faster than the C8.
I did decide to purchase the extended warranty this time around...my experience with the prime has left me jaded and there is no way I'm going to be left holding a dud.
With that said, I suggest if possible to keep on returning them until you find a good one...they do exist!
If Asus can't be persistent with their perfection...Be persistent with the returns!
F me! Just noticed this one is creaking like an old rocking chair, its on the left side by the hdmi port.
Today, I swapped out my first C7 after owning it for a week and received a C8 as a replacement. It amazes me the differences between the two.
For my particular devices, the differences were:
C7 pros: The construction was very solid. I kept reading horror stories about screen lift, creaking, etc. and mine felt solid like a tank. No light bleed issues either.
C7 cons: It suffered from severe I/O issues. Trying to download something from the market would grind things to a halt until the download and install finished. The Browser lagged a bit as well........as did moving around the launcher or clearing items from the recents menu . I returned it because there was a spec of dust under the screen which just really bothered me.
C8 pros: It feels like they put better quality internals in this one! There have been none of the i/o issues, lag, or stutters. Everything is very responsive and snappy. From a software usability standpoint, this feels like a completely new device.
C8 cons: The physical build quality is definitely not as high as the first. There are spots around the edges of the glass that feel "squishy". There is also a bit more lightbeed but i would not call it bad by any means.
For now, I am going to keep the C8 because the performance difference alone is worth it. The minor physical build quality issues aren't bothering me enough yet to risk giving up the performance.
One trend I seem to have noticed after reading all these reviews is that the build date does not seem to have much correlation with physical build quality. However, it does seem that more recent models may be using higher quality internal components contributing to noticeable performance gain.
These are just my observations.
This will be my second replacement through Amazon. My first unit wouldn't read any sim I placed in the device which I just put down to bad luck considering I couldn't find any other user with the same issue. The second (my current unit) has developed a sort of LCD distortion around the mid right of the screen. When touched it is visible enough to cause me to notice it when using apps with lighter backgrounds, it is even more prominent when using the stylus. I have never encountered this on any touch screen I have used before and was wondering if anyone else has had this? I saw a thread on the NVIDIA forums discussing it but not on here.
I will say this much for sure, on the two units so far the battery life has been terrible. I really want to love this device as overall it's been great for games and emulation... but with all the issues and battery life i'm thinking that if this unit is no better i'll give this tablet a miss and hope the next version is fixed.

I have this issue with my tablet, and unfortunately lots of people on the geforce forums are as well. Supposedly the RMA units being sent out as replacements overwhelmingly have the same issue (See Jasons posts at https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/793383/shield-tablet/nvidia-guilty-of-fraud/1/). I have an RMA being sent to me as we speak, and I really hope I don't have this problem again.

I contacted Amazon to ask about the feedback they have received on units they've sold, the customer service advisor claimed nothing but positive feedback and no issues such as the ones on the Nvidia forums. All of that said, from what i've seen so far, this tablet is riddled with manufacturing flaws and i'm worried the lifespan will be much shorter than any smartphone or tablet I have bought before.
I feel sorry for the consumers who have had to RMA they're units multiple times, this will be my third Shield Tablet and it seems many others have gone through 3 or more to find one that is right, is this acceptable?
Then others score a perfect tablet like myself.
Same thing with phones, when N5 was released, never saw so many go through so many returns to achieve a level of some perfection.
Yet, the two I bought were perfect, I just don't get it myself neither.
Same happened with N7(13), N4 and N7(12).
I never had to return one because it was defective.
I read about this supposedly sub par in cell tech used on our display, that it distorts under pressure. I called bs on it first time I read it, tested myself, had to push so hard moisture in my skin wouldn't allow me to slide my finger on display.
Seem excessive?
Sure does, now if you're just touching it an it happens it is an issue, but if you can see blood pooling under your finger nail, the defect is above screen level IMO.
Harsh maybe, I'm sorry but that's my view on it here.

It's definitely a problem with this tablet, that and the cracked edges i've been seeing a lot of topics on. I've been using touch screen devices since around the time of the 1st generation iPod touch and i've never returned a single product back with any of the issues i've had/seen with this tablet which I am now on my third unit.
The screen itself needs little pressure for the screen to distort, which is now in two places on the screen. I'm far too careful with my devices and do not use excessive pressure on the screen.

People on reddit seem convinced that because their phone doesn't work then no phones work, and google sucks and why don't google listen to me, and i'm getting an iphone.
I put a case (spigen tough armor) on my phone and I can't hear a squeak. Maybe if I took the case off and tried to squash my phone I'd hear a squeak, but why would I want to do that? I wouldn't have thought there'd be much give; it's unlikely to be a case of "first it squeaks and then it breaks" because you can't push it that far. Perhaps if you pushed it really hard.... But it reminds me of the old joke "Doctor, it hurts when I do this"..."Well, stop doing it then".

Right, yes that doesn't sound good!
Despite the negative commentary your device clearly has a build problem and should be managed under warranty. While I always use a case (spigen) that should not be an expectation unless specified by manufacturer and included with device.
FWIW - I do not have that issue (phone still feels solid sans case) but also use & carry it in a manner that rarely flexes the body/frame.

it start creaking after ~1 week. I use it normally and don't use skinny jeans. Seems like...it have no glue on border or missing pin on plastic case....
Today it start creaky sound near power button....
Mine creaks sometimes but its a budget device made out of plastic. Can't be expecting flagship level build quality.

Respectfully disagree. Used lower end Moto phones for years, some half the price of the 4a. Never had a build quality issue (might have got lucky too). Plastic can be fine if overall structure is properly engineered. So far no issues with my 4a but it also rides in a protective case.
this is my second pixel after RMA:
Well, mine is also making hardcore creaking sound when being pushed between the buttons. Feels like I can shove it 1mm inside. But nowhere else do I get noises. Don't like that...
Mine is creaking real bad near the power button....returned and got a new one from amazon...so far so good, fingers crossed considering this issue seems to popup after a week or two of use

firste device...1week and second device only 3 days without creaky
Hi,
my Pixel started creaking near SIM card tray after cca 1 week. It is not that annoying currently but if it gets worse, I will consider RMA.
Anyway, I may as well live with it for the next year, 1,5y and only then do RMA Free new phone every 2 yrs - not bad
creak near the camera seems common, people claiming no creak might be using cases, because it doesn't creak in a case.
and the creak is not an issue more of an annoyance, which is fine with me.
One day after voting my device started creaking. Suddenly the device feels really cheap
anyone know how to fix this creeky issue? i
Yes buy a Motorola, which funnily enough Google bought then sold just to strip the patents. BUT unfortunately they didn't steal the build patents!... Sigh... More money than sense.
the creaking stopped thankfully, hope it stays that way, also got a case
My pixel 4a was making noise when pressing in the back under the camera and between the power and volume buttons, as well as over the power button. I ordered a replacement from Google but after few days, the same noise at the same location came back on the new device.
Despite I love this phone, I wouldn't have bought this device if I knew about this issue. I believe this is due to a bad internal design plus the heat of the CPU (actually the heat comes from the same area as the noise, so this could be what is destroying the glue of the case).

Did you do something? Or it simply stopped?
