I backed this Kickstarter for enough to get the bundle with a protector for both the front and back of my Nexus 4 and the front of my Nexus 7. Looks promising to me, anyone else know anything about this?

that video is making a lot of claims about what their screen protector can do...lol at the hammer part of the video, it looks like he was placing it on the screen. the drop test proved nothing too as they tried drop it flat instead of on an edge not to mention we dont know how many times the phone did break for them to get that shot. In real life situations most of the time when a phone drops it will hit an edge and this is also where the glass is most vulnerable. Screen protectors dont add any protection against drops, you need a case for that.
Wasnt there many screen protectors like this at CES? why not just get one those than risking losing your money on a kickstarter that never gets funded.

Here's their video dropping bricks on their iphone. I cringe when watching it. At least they show damage to the screen. Makes it more believable.
I have one. It's $40 but I paid $15 with coupon, with a lifetime warranty. So whenever it starts peeling I just pay shipping to get a replacement.

nope, i was just saying their drop test is misleading, but just went back and check out the rest of it. I assume you are referring to the "scientific" ball bearing drop. How is a steel ball dropping on a phone anything like a real life drop. Even their scientific test is misleading they should of put a cheap competitor screen protector instead of naked glass to prove that their screen protector is so much better.
I dont doubt that putting a layer of plastic over a screen makes it stronger against an impact at the center of the glass panel but this is not where a phone hits when it falls. Edges are weakest on glass screens, edges are where phones first hit when they are drop on a flat surface since screen protectors do not protect edges they do not protect against drops...If you dont believe me just search drop test on youtube and you will see that the vast majority if them break from the corner or edge.

You should take your threadcrapping general anger at screen protectors out on some other thread. Nobody here is some poor fool who needs you to clarify the physics of phone breakage. It's clear what they're selling, the question is whether it's better than tempered glass or something else. Some of us work in places where the environment itself is a hazard and who can use this sort of thing because an otterbox defender type case may not be enough.

Actually I might have thought about Amzer...until I read the comments on their brick youtube video.
Backed this for the front + back covers... really hope they succeed.
Also ordered a Best Skins Ever for the time being...

No where did they claim that its a magical solution that will protect against all types of drops.

Looks interesting, ill probably back it.
I emailed them asking how much of the nexus 4 screen the rhino actually covers, I assume its like any dry SP that won't cover all of the screen but I just want confirmation before I pledge.

You need to relax and get your own anger checked. Neo is 100% right. This project is full of bs. As I stated in reddit thread
" This seems very sketchy as some one who worked in a research lab for 3 years the way they portray their data is not convincing in the video. 1.) Main reason.. After they banged on the glass with the magical screen protector they simply removed it.. Instead of then banging on the screen without a screen protector to show us that the screen can in fact break. They did this on all the occasions. Even the ball drop on the screen shows one screen breaking into a million pieces while the undamaged screen simply has its protector removed instead of a follow up test with another ball drop.
2.) Gorilla glass becomes more and more brittle as the hardness increases. Its main function is to prevent scratching. Thus a direct force can probably break the glass. I dont see how a screen protector can dissipate the energy from a force and leave the screen undamaged.
I call bull on this Rhino shield product. I'm no expert in the realm of screen protectors but no way can a thin layer of plastic with different layers protect your screen from shattering. Best it can do is prevent the debris from flying everywhere."

The fitting for nexus 4 would only cover the flat surface at the moment, we are trying very hard to try to get the curve covered as well.
We are waiting for a new batch of prototype being produced and also the tool being made (nexus 4 require different tool from all others phone because of the curvature).

I had a protector on my NexusOne that has Gorilla V1.
Dumbest idea ever!
I removed it about a year ago. It fell down so many times, no scratches.
Screen is like when I bought it.
I don't think you need a protector with Gorilla anymore.
if you take it on the go a lot - screen protect it
if you have kids - screen protect it
if you like to set it up and down on stands - screen protect it
if you dont have a leather case - screen protect it.
if you just like the awsome smooth feeling of the glass, then leave it naked and touch it all you want

Screen Protectors usually make for a tight fit with docks. You may have to do a little trimming around the docking points depending on the protector you choose.
When I carry it arround the house, I don't need a protector, Gorilla Glass doesn't seem to get scratches easily (nor does the back of my Infinity, despite what some said).
For going out I either take the dock which encloses the screen within the whole thing or I take TranSleeve (originally meant for the Prime), which is helpful for typing or watching media (two standing positions). I don't see a point of having this kind of sleeve for both (although this seems nice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28593251&postcount=19), although I have bought the cheapest (~$3) neoprene etui/sleeve for 10" netbooks available (somehow they tend to be cheaper than the same products for 10" tablets): http://vegacom.eu/data/gfx/pictures/large/6/6/9566_7.jpg?337768
This is more for suddently-dropping-the-bag-on-the-floor kind of situation than to avoid scratches, but I feel better with these precautions (I also carry a few books in the backpack quite often, so it seems safer to have some kind of cover).

I was answering the question if one should protect the screen with gorilla glass, but ok, good point. I would never use something that would blur the image on the Infinity, but I can understand somebody would want to do it to be able to use the tablet in direct sunlight. But to avoid scratches? Hell no!
You can some brutal things to gorilla glass without scratching it. Most people don't need a screen protector. The huge elephant in the room is dust, which might surprise some folks who don't have to live with much of it. If you live in an especially dusty region, you should seriously consider protecting even a GG2 screen. The glass has not been invented that won't scratch if the right piece of dust gets dragged across it just so. Hammering a nail with an HTC one x is impressive (reference to a youtube vid I saw once), but not the most practical test. Some dust particles are harder than nails, I assure you.

Definitely +1 concerning the dust, but concerning the damage reduction potential of Gorilla Glass: when I got my LG Optimus 2x about one and a half years ago, I rubbed the tip of a knife on the screen (Gorilla Glass v1) to and fro in a ballsy whim during a dinner with friends. Turns out it was a bad idea: although I have since upgraded to the SGS2 and the LG is now carried around by my wife, it still bears a nice mark (scratch).
Although, with a probability close to certainty, a normal screen would've been utterly destroyed (I wasn't exactly gentle), the potential for damage is still there and it doesn't even take visceral violence. It is chemically hardened glass, it can take a beating but it is only an extra line of defense.
For the sake of on-topic conversation: I have never used a screen protector on any device I own. I take good care of them and mostly use them eitehr indoors or in a shaded area (inside the train, for example). If you'd need outdoor visibility, consider it. If you have the dock, think about a good sleeve or case (I have bought an relatively cheap leather one on eBay and, although it does add significant bulk, it does a commendable job as far as protection goes).

Dust? Really? Have you seen the Gorilla Glass 2 vendor video? They threw everything at it but the kitchen sink. If dust was ever to be their demise, Gorilla would lose ALL credibility with their product. I'm hardly worried.

When I got mine I found it was almost impossible to use out on the pattio without the anti-glare film.
The glass is simply a perfect reflector giving very crisp and detailed images of everything around and abowe you overshadowing the data on the screen.
The same issue faces almost all tabs and phones though.
The anti-glare screen does do odd things to the pixels due to the high density, but overall it works.

GG is tough and great, but you underestimate the power of dust.
+1 for an Anti-glare protector. Not for it's "protection" qualities, but for it's anti-glare qualities... I just got my TF700 and the screen is beautiful, but very reflective... Plus the anti-glares help reduce finger prints significantly. Just get a good one - you usually get what you pay for when it comes to anti-glare protectors.
However, I do worry that it may interfere with the screen quality too much on the TF700 though (they usually create some level of "pixelation" effect which may ruin the TF700 "experience" - not sure as I don't have one yet!

I refer to the effect of anti-glares as the rainbow effect. It acts a little like a prism per pixel, especially noticeable on white screens as you'd expect. Some people just see it as noise. Some don't see it.
I'm undecided about whether or not its worth it. It always has been before (bonus: fewer prints), but I've never had a screen this beautiful before either, and I'm not sure I want to obscure it.
My argument is pretty simple: the Infinity is so pretty I would never want to blemish it with any permanent type of screen protector. And it gets so hot in direct sunlight during summer here anyway that I prefer to stay indoors with it ;>

The screen have too much resistance it grabs the finger.
It's not as smooth to touch on ipad screen, didn't anyone noticed it?

Today I put my infinity on the tablet (face down cause I'm stupid) just for a sec, didn't move or slide and when I picked it up it had a scratch on it. I'm really annoyed with myself and hopefully after a few days I won't notice it. But i can see it and its the type of scratch that distorts the pixels a bit. Mind its small but against the rest of the amazing display it can be noticeable. Gorilla Glass 2 is still only scratch resistant and not scratch proof, don't make the same mistake I did.

so many devices i keep reading they get scratched during normal use in real life by real users...put the phone in your pocket, 2 seconds later pull it out and it's scratched...come on, gorilla must've been on lunch break or something...

The only thing known to man that is essentially scratch proof is a diamond, and even that can be scratched by another diamond. Yes it is only scratch resistant, I'm more saying that after showing off their new gorilla glass 2 and how strong and scratch "resistant" it is it only took me on the fourth day of usage to get a scratch by placing the screen face down on a flat surface. Also your right, scratch proof is impossible, but being scratch proof of every day wear and tear is possible. If I get a butcher knife and carve away at the surface of coarse its going to scratch and it's unreasonable for companies to try and protect you from that because most of us don't want a knife any where near our devices. But my screens famous gorilla glass 2 surface shouldn't fail after just normal use (even if it was stupid of me).
I would of gotten a screen protector, but since I live in Australia it wouldn't have reached me in time.

Infinity doesn't get released here until next month, I guess I could find a prime one
Just like to add what it says on Corning's front page "Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is as tough and scratch resistant as ever to withstand the unexpected abuses of everyday life." Well it certainly didn't stop mine from getting scratched from the most basic of device abuse.
Never trust anything.
My OG droid had a pretty solid screen, but it also has a very slightly recessed screen due to the metal around the perimeter of the screen. Even that one got scratches but it was abused. Since that phone I haven't and won't trust any of these other devices. Especially if the screen is the part that sticks out the furthest like with the tf700.

I dropped mine twice and the girlfriend tried to clean the screen with Ajax and a brillo pad when she poured hot glue on it by accident, while I was at work. I wanted to ring her neck.... but suffice it to say, my lil' baby gorilla survived - - scratch free. Sounds like your baby Gorilla was being a wuss.

cool, you'll afford a screen protector but nothing to apply it on
I had my G2X since it came out and nothing. Had my Infinity for a week and got a scratch. I shipped it back to B&H for a refund cause of wifi issues. Hopefully they don't notice it. I will be buying another one from somewhere else since they don't have anymore.

I have crushed a few phones running over them. I can't even count all the phones I have had. I have had 6 different tablets. I don't use screen protectors because I don't like my fingers sticking to the screen while sliding my finger. Never have had a scratch but I am very careful and baby them. When mine get hurt it is unusable.
With all that said my Infinity is either in the dock or on my lap. Never have laid it down and is always protected by my keyboard dock. I cleaned the screen 2 days ago and Viola, a scratch. Very small 1/16" . It seems impossible it could happen but it did.
I always would think people don't take care of them for them to get scratched. Not anymore. :crying:

The girlfriend was watching a "how too" video on YouTube about Arts & Crafts.... With a hot glue gun!
I freaked when she told me. I immediately checked for :smudges and scratch thinking it would be ruined. Couldn't believe it survived an abrasive brilliant pad, an abrasive cleaner and hot glue.... All at the same time.
Now that's a relief! ;> I believe any other scenario could mean losing both the tablet and the girlfriend
This is why I said in the thread about whether to use a SP or not that its crazy not to. It sucks to have a scratched device, but to play the devils advocate here, you seriously placed a tablet screen down. It must have moved some or else a scratch couldnt have formed. If you think about how tiny a grain of salt or sand is, then do the math I bet the pressure per square inch on the scale is immense. Don't get me wrong, I've scratched many screens and have been plenty pissed about it, but I don't thing blaming Corning because you layed a tablet face down is quite fair. These scratch tests are often done with things much much larger then a grain of sand with less pressure then the weight of the tablet.

Ah man, i'd be ticked. That's why I take mine to work with me, that and to watch movies and update calender.

My wife has an Ipad2. Awesome screen. No SP, but it has a case with lid and I take extra care of it, always cleaning it.
I am afraid if I put an SP on my future TF700, it will lessen the quality of the screen, what I mean is dull the picture.
Which will be the best screen protector? Which is the best based off your past experiences?
I am in the UK and willing to order from the US but I'm not sure which is the best. I still need to sell my unused XO from my Galaxy Nexus
UK here too. I've tried Zagg, Skinomi and BSE in the past. BSE are undoubtedly the best of those 3
I'm having trouble deciding on a screen protector as well, but I've always gotten the InvisibleSHIELD. I mostly do so because I can buy the full body skin (or any of the kits they sell), then take it to the mall and they'll apply it all free of charge. If they screw up (they never do), then they'll give me a brand new one. If it gets all scratched up, gets a bubble, or ANYTHING, I just take it to the mall (without a receipt or box or anything) and they'll replace it all totally free. If I screw up applying other protectors, I don't want to have to ship it back and wait for a new one. While others do sometimes have kiosks (from what I've heard), I have yet to actually see one. I've never minded the whole orange peel thing personally, so it doesn't really affect my decision by much. I just love their warranty in combination with the kiosks. It makes it very easy.
Another thing I'm worried about is this: If I get the full body kit, can I still use a case, or will the friction of putting the case on be enough to screw it up? Has anyone had this issue? Should I just get a front and back kit instead? I plan on using case with the phone to protect from drops and what not, I usually just get a Speck Candy Shell or something, although I'm a huge fan of the LifeProof cases since they look good and offer great protection (either or not they'll make a Nexus 4 case is a different story, I suppose).

They are all very similar. I usually go with Skinomi because of the price. I already pre-ordered it off Amazon.

sgp steinheil is the best it feels smooth like its not there but is extremly hard my nexus s has deep scratches on the screen protector that havent even touched the glass
The best screen protector... is you! Don't slide your phone across the table, don't drop it, and don't put it in your pocket with potentially "dangerous" things (pens, keys, etc.), and all should be ok
I'm not a big fan of screen protectors; I like to have full touch control with my screen, and would rather not worry about what was the cause of my screen not registering that input (was it the screen protector, or just the phone itself?).
Well I don't know what kind of screen protectors you've been using but the ones I've used don't have any effect on the sensitivity of the touchscreen. I am careful with my stuff anyway but the small hairline scratches really annoy/bother me for some reason.

Protection is absolutely necessary for me since I work in construction/maintenance

I'm going for Ghost Armor actually.
Your question is the best for the N4. But nobody has any of these screen protectors made for the N4, and only a couple really lucky people have the phone. None of the opinions in your poll are actually based on experience with this device and this protector. Wait until people start getting them and then look at reviews.

I'm going with BSE because I've heard a lot of good things about them. Plus I like the wet apply idea. I've ALWAYS had problems with the sticky dry screen protectors. One little piece of fuzz or dust and you have annoying bubbles every where. And over time bits of fuzz/lint get up around the corners and it slowly starts to peel off.

I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what you do. Before you know it you'll be in direct sunlight and you'll see all sorts of small little scratches. Then later, you'll always know they're there. I'm OCD about it. I can't stand having the tiny little scratches because I want my phone to stay new. I think the first time you put a phone in your pocket, it gets some sort of tiny little scratch from something.. then over time they build up and make the screen look aweful. Plus its funny you say pens and keys because those things wont scratch gorilla glass. I've tired a key on my old Atrix and nothing comes from it. It's actually particles of dust that have maybe glass or something else hard, or sand.
I want a dry applied one and really wanna know if a dry one can cover the entire screen of Nexus 4.......
XO Skins are the ones I have been using for a few years now. From what I have read xo and sgp are the only ones without orange peel. I don't know how the sgp do on curves though I posted a review of xo in my signature when I had the samsung google nexus

Exactly, all these videos of people dropping coins/keys on the phone are pointless. swipe over that phone just once with sand paper and its all over...

Just picked up myself a 32gb version off amazon for 464 total and will be recieving monday(stupid best buy didnt have it in stock(the closest store that had it was in texas!!(im in tucson)))
but my question is, should i get a case and\or screen protector
i picked and felt around the display one in the best buy near my dorm and loved it so i bought one but i will probably be taking it with me too classes and work and stuff so i may need a case and gaurd
what do you think?? what are you reccomendations,
if i was to get a case, i dont really want a tri-fold one, and i would want it to be soft on the inside and (fake) leather on the outside
in terms of screen protectors...it shjould probably be scratch filling because i will have the tablet for a few days with normal use before finally receiving it
but im open to suggestions, any ideas?

mind if i ask a few more questions?
1. is it flexible
2. is there a high chance of it breaking during shipping
3. is it difficult to put on
4. is it difficult to take off?(like how other, non-tempered ones peel away)
5. if i were to drop the tablet, would i shatter the screen protector?
6. how much did yours cost?(was\is it on sale?)
7. what are the downsides to using this screen protector?

1) Yes, you can bend it a few degrees, I didn't want to bend it more.
2) The glass comes in a hard plastic case, so I would say no.
3) You have to ensure that your screen is clean (for best results turn on the shower hot until you have steam, turn it off and wait a few minutes, this will take the dust corns down. Clean the screen and apply the protector in the steamed bathroom), and I recommend to put some sticky film on the sides so you can hold the panel without touching it.
Once the protector is aligned perfectly, apply pressure and you will see that it applies itself. Don't fear bubbles, they will go away within minutes if you apply pressure and gently "massage" it.
4) I once removed a tempered glass protector from a nexus 5 (not mine though), you have to take it off on one corner which can be kind of difficult, but once you can lift it off, it won't leave any residue.
5) Probably, never had to try that.
6) Mine cost about 10€ (~12,50$), amazon showed it as sale, but most probably it always has this price.
7) With SOME styluses you may have an decreased sensibility, but my metal mash stylus works fine.

The shower technique should be especially helpful, I've never heard that one before(good thing my dorm has extra hot showers)

Oh yes, english is not my mother tongue, so I forgot the vocab.
I think amazon gives you one or two years warranty, but I'm not sure about the situation in the US.

Get a case or a screen protector. Getting both is kinda redundant.
Get screen protector if you want to keep the look of your tablet. You might also consider getting a skin for the backside to prevent the back from getting scratched.
Get a case if you want both screen protection and some drop protection and you don't mind the slight bulkiness of the case.

lol i was reluctant to post this but our options are not looking good so far. Has anyone tried this? I wouldn't mind applying it often if needed but i always wondered if this works. I have seen what some think about it but im asking those that have actually tried it and have experience with it.

I had it on my Nexus 6 and it worked great
why dont options look good?
I been using skinomi protectors screen the note egde. they work great and stick very well to the edge. havent had any edges pull up.
There also very clear and easy wet install.

Honestly, they feel like straight tacky rubber. They also affect the clarity in my opinion.
Hum i havent had that problem. I used my s7 edge without a protector for a wk til the skinomi came in. Once instal, after a day or 2 didnt even know i had it on.
But to each there own, you know.

I've never used a screen protector on my previous phones (Note 2 / Note 4) and have never had any issues with scratches. I always have my phone in my pocket, though I always place it with the screen facing my thigh to avoid any accidental damage to the screen from outside and I never place keys in the same pocket.
When inspecting my note 4 after 2 years of use I can only see a few very fine hairline surface scratches that are basically only visible under very close scrutiny, under specific light and with the screen tilted at a specific angle - so generally speaking, my note 4 screen is still flawless after 2 years of use.
Now the scratch resistance of GG5 glass in the now infamous video of note 7 does trouble me as does the lack of good screen protectors which cover the whole screen without having to deal with drawbacks such as rainbow effects, hollow clicking, loss of sensitivity, peeling of corners etc.
Therefore, I'm also considering the liquid solution from Kristall for my preordered Note 7 in hopes that it could help prevent scratching of the glass on the device. I couldn't care less about the improved shatter-resistance of the GG5, as I do have an insurance plan that would cover an accident, but so far I have yet to shatter a screen on any of my phones.
So I'm planning to use the Note 7 as is, without ugly covers or screenprotectors, but would using something like Kristall liquid screen protector be able to improve my chances of not scratching up the glass? Does anyone have any insight / personal experience / references to tests that show its effectiveness in regards to scratches? (Not in regards to shatter resistance)
I have always been curious about these. I would love to see a video demonstrating the effectiveness.

I do I had it on my Nexus 6and I never got one scratch on my phone I even dropped it on the concrete one time nothing

The Nexus 6 uses Gorilla Glass 3 though, which is even more scratch resistant than gorilla glass 4 (but more prone to shattering). I wish they would go back to using GG3 to be honest.
They should use Sapphire since we're paying so much for this damn phone

Something like applying the liquid solution to half of the screen of note 7 and then using the picks to scratch both sides would be awesome and would really show if this stuff has an effect?

Yes that would be the way to go TBH.
These treatments may prevent stuff from abrading the oleophobic coating but they aren't going to prevent scratches in the glass itself. Also if it truly is a persistent coating, it's going to change how your fingers slide across the screen. It could be for the better or for the worse. If it's the latter, I wonder how hard it would be to remove?

From what I've read online, the feeling was slightly different to naked glass, but not "bad different". Also the screen is supposedly gettimg a little more gloss /shine with this.
As I understand, the coating mostly covers/fills the microscopic pores on the surface of the glass, so I'm guessing that it'd still feel smooth?
As for removing the coating - no idea
I think I'm gonna try it out on my note 7 when I receive it (gotta wait till the 9th of September)...
I'll post back regarding my experience, but since I'm not gonna attempt to scratch up my new device on purpose, I probably won't be able to say anything regarding the effectiveness of the added scratch resistance as opposed to not using the solution...
I'd still love to see a proper test from JerryRigsEverything though!

GG5 is garbage.
I noticed today in direct sunlight that I have quite a few faint scratches. You can't see them when the screen is on and the scratches are only visible at certain angles.
But considering its only been a week and this phone costs as much as a laptop that's unacceptable.
Well from what i found, a note 7 screen replacement will cost $250(for the new screen itself) lol i would have ordered one and tried this liquid screen protector stuff but damn that lol

This is just what i found on this particular one
No, liquid screen protector does not work. Have seen reviews in my local forums that scratches occur after.
Also, I've just made experiment by putting on car coating material (aquartz t-cera) on my tablet's screen,
3 layers with a day of curing for each layer, 2x application per layer .. and after days of curing,
tried rubbing small piece of sand/dry cement to the screen glass (non gorilla),, and tadaaa, scratches !
so, No ... liquid stuff doesn't work for me.
