screen protector

ok bought mine today, but no screen protector, am assuming its the same for everyone else, but whats your opinion, on whether or not its necessary, to have a screen protector.?

Doesn't come with one in the box.
I have ordered one as it better to be safe than sorry.

Yeh I suppose you are right but I may say for some very strange reason the screen looks and feels more robust than any phone I have ever used more or less like the iPhone

Mine got a faint scratch on day 1, from something in my pocket!
The screen cant be that strong!

It's not nescesary until you get a scratch on your display
I always have two reasons why I get a screen protector:
1. To eliminate reflections. The Brando Anti-Glare ones are really good at this. I always use that kind of screen protector on all my devices (too bad they don't have it for the Desire... yet).
2. To avoid scratches. A scratch on the display is really nasty, especially when you constantly see it. And it will also influence the value later on when you want to sell the phone.
So.. if you, eventually, plan to sell the phone: Do yourself a favour and put a screen protector on it and -always- carry the phone in a case/pouch. You can sell the phone later as "As good as new! No scratches whatsoever!".
And if you want less reflection (at the cost of a somewhat more 'grainy' display) use an anti-glare protector. Those things are great when using your phone for navigation in the car when it's sunny!

Get one. Cheaper when you think of it as an insurance policy! My Vikuiti protector is great. Probably replace it with the Brando when it becomes available.

I had a HD2 and the screen on that was next to impossible to scratch. A few times it was placed in my pocket with keys or screws. It even felt solid and scratch resistant. I heard it may well be glass.
Now the Desire. Hmmmmm. The screen feels a lot cheaper and bendy so I have really been careful with this one. I think you can see where this one is going?
I found a scratch on the top of the screen. How?! It has lived in it's case.
HTC got it so right with the HD2 and it now seems like a backward step again for what should have been a premium Android device.

No Screen Protector.

I took out my Mytouch last night and started playing games and noticed how smooth the screen felt. It took me a while to notice that the screen protector had come off.
I needed to replace it anyway since the top right corner was loose and dirty. Just a little story I wanted to tell. Does anyone else use a screen protector?

I used to. I would always make sure I had a screen protector before i even got the phone so I could have it on on day one. But I recently took off my sp and noticed how great and clear and responsive the screen was without it. I've been rocking it naked for almost two weeks. Not a single scratch. Basically, with all of these glass and gorilla glass screens, you don't really need an sp unless you are putting the phone in a purse with keys and change or in a pocket with other items. I always have my phone in it's own pocket and keep nothing else in it. Haven't experienced a scratch. Don't think I'll ever use an sp again.

I thought MT4G owners said this phone gets dusts under the screen and spots, so wouldnt a SP be helpful here?

Naked since I tired of it after my first week! Months without one and not a single scratch...

Ive had a screen protector on mine since day of purchase, the guy at the tmobile store put it on before turning on the phone. I did have a sp-less HD2 that was mint and never had any scratches. the screen was very smooth and a tad bit more responsive. I think when I get my replacement mytouch, itll have the naked screen

I have a screen protector and a TPU case. I have it just in case. You never know what can happen. I feel like I can be a little less carefull with the phone with the cover on the screen. For example if im working on my car and using my phone to play music I can touch the screen with my dirty fingers and not worry about dirt and grime putting a scratch on it. Just wipe it off at the end of the day and its perfectly fine.

no screen protector is just so much more awesome.

LOL never heard anyone put it quite like this in regards to a phone, but somehow it works and makes perfect sense!

I carry my phone in the T-Mobile leather sleeve so the screen is always protected and therefore I don't bother with a screen protector. My buddy doesn't use a case and therefore does use a SP, and the difference is noticeable. His screen is much less responsive, and it's more difficult to drag your finger across it.

I'm using a SP about a week and after that, I decided to take out to use a flip case for replacement.

Story from my Nexus One. I had a Zagg shield basically forever, but the case I had did a number on the edges. I was getting close to getting a new phone, so I decided to just take the protector off and go naked. I figured, in my pocket, what could happen?
Within a day I had a nice scratch at the upper edge of the screen. Non in the "display" area, so I suppose that's good, but still not great for resale. I should be happy though that I haven't had any other issues.

Some days ago I put the phone in my pocket and since I was in a hurry I forgot that my keys were inside too. After playing handball for some time I take the phone out of my pockets and notice this huge and deep scare right in the middle of the screen. I almost cried, really. But when I took the screen protector off, guess what, it was like new!
So, screen protectors dont feel as good as naked but at the end of the day you will be safe.

Naked since new, no scratches. SP's are a waste of money on most new devices with gorilla glass or scratch resistant glass.

Gorilla Glass or other high tempered scratch resistant glass can still get scratch. All you need is the right grind of sand in your pocket or right angle of impact from key, ect. SP only costs like 10dollar and high end like DQC/Crystal based is like less than $20. In the long run it pays for itself just stay out of InvisibleSHIELD BS but when you do get scratch you will beat yourself crying why didn't you spend $10. As having scratch on the screen does impact the resell value of the device.

Yes, it does get scratched. I haven't the slightest idea I got my scratch since I always have it in my holster... But the color and response difference has kept any screen protector off my phone since january. I'd rather have the vibrant colors

Yes it helps, against scratches. But i get a less good feeling with my fingers on the screen, so i have removed my protection.

Yep, kind off it helps in many ways. Like even if I get multiple scratches It wouldn't matter as I can get the screen guard changed. But If I didn't had it at ones that would cost me more.
Though now a days its trend for Gorilla Glass and vise versa!

I do not use it anymore. I had a cover for my Galaxy S2, and also a plastic 'sheet' to protect the front.
In my line of work I had quite some rough jobs wich resulted in hairy situations for the phone. Eventually I switched jobs last year, and these days I sit behind a desk. There is no use for the cover anymore. The front itself can withstand most of the daily stuff.
The cover for the back etc. might be handy if you drop your phone, but did you ever see those phone-drop-tests?
Bottomline: Obviously it's safer, but I don`t think people really need them.

Well, I bought my xperia x10 USED. Seller told me that it has BIG SCRATCH on the bottom of the screen (btw, xperias screen is scratch-resist), and I told him that he has to lower the price, so he lowered price for 20€ ..When I bought it, I found out that there is a screen protector on it..So, I removed it, and I have a brand new phone..without scratch on the bottom of the screen ofcourse ..
So, if you are a seller, remove it if there is any scratches or something else..If you are a buyer, try to screw up a seller

Changed several of them already and my screen still doesn't have scratche

I've been using them on my epic 4g that I have had for the last couple months. But before that I didn't use them on my lg optimus v or HTC Eris.

I use no screen protector but I had one. There are no scratches on my phone now and I can wipe better. You have to be carefully without a protector.

I use a protector for 2 reasons. Firstly, for peace of mind. Yes, it's Gorilla glass which means it's less likely to get scratched, but there's no glass in the world that is completely scratch-proof, so it makes sense to cover it for that extra protection. Secondly, I use a matte (anti-glare) protector. It's good for reducing reflections and helping read the screen in brighter light, but it also stops fingerprints and greasy smudge marks.
Each to their own, but if I've got a £500 phone then I see no point in *not* chucking a few more quid at a protector.

In my opinion, screen protectors can be very useful. There are different types of screen protectors, that offer different benefits to suit your needs.
The first kind of screen protector is a "clear" type, which is obviously clear, that offers scratch protection. The drawback of this type of protection is, because of the clear, craystal like finish, it creates a glare like effect, making it difficult to see the screen in direct sunlight, or brightly lit rooms.
The next type of screen protector (my favorite) is an "anti-glare", which has a matte finish. This type of screen protector not only prevents scratching, but it also cuts out the glare, does a great job of hiding fingerprints and smudges. It also provides a better feel when touching the screen, removing that "sticky" feeling when sliding your finger across the screen. The downside to this type of screen protector is that it slightly takes away from the sharpness or detail of the display. (only slightly though). A fair trade off, in my opinion.
The third type of screen protector is know as a "mirror" type. This protector has a mirror finish, which actually looks like a mirror. This type offers scratch protection, and because of it's mirror finish, also provides a level of privacy, making it difficult for other people to see what's on your screen. The downside to this type of protector is, because of the mirror finish, it makes it extremely difficult to see the screen under any lighting conditions. It also doesn't hide scratches very well.

i had a screen protector but i took it off, i didnt like it, it just didnt feel good, so i bought a phone bag. i only take my phone out of the bag when im really using it. no scratches so far. id reccomend a phone back and no protetor, but its everyones personal opinion how to use phone

It depends... If you have your phone in the same pocket as your keys it's usefull to have one. When you have your phone in an case it's not that usefull.

I like screen protectors but my hands and fingers are so dam rough it scratches the screen protector up, so I go threw screen protector a couple weeks, the protector would just get so scratch up

I've never used one and don't have notible scratches, but then again, I'm always very aware of how I'm handling my phone, and when I carry it around, I'll keep it in its pouch.

What have you found to be a good screen protector for the Blaze? I have been looking for something that will last. I just got some "C. Skins" that have a two year warranty off of fleabay for a whole $1.99 so I figured I would give them a try. I'm not expecting much for the price, but figured I would give it a shot. My initial report is that it won't stay down around the edges. I might trim a little off the edges and give it another try. (there were 6 in the package so I can experiment on a couple)
What other brands out have a good reputation and work on the Blaze? Thanks for any and all input.

My reply is not specifically what you're looking for, but is another viewpoint.
For over 2 years I carried a Nexus One with me wherever I went. Even though it was my first full screen phone, I only used one of those screen protectors for a few days.
For 2 years it was always carried in my front pocket, mostly in my jeans or shorts, or whatever. I did drop the phone a few times, nothing really catastrophic, but the bigger crime I would commit with my phone is using it sometimes with wet hands, and once or twice I used it in the rain.
My screen for that phone is still in PRISTINE shape. Not a single scratch on it. It has a very very small ding on the phone from when I dropped it once, but when I went to switch carriers, the guy is like, "This phone looks brand spanking new."
It's true I used a silicone style case for the back of the phone, mostly because the N1 is freaking slippery....but the screen was immaculate.
A friend of mine has a similar story with his Iphone 3gs, or whatever it's called. The materials that the phones have been made from for the last few years is pretty durable. I remember watching youtube videos of N1's users taking their brand new phones and marring them with keys, pressing really hard, and they wouldn't scratch.
I have no idea if the screen on this model phone is made of anything similar in a material, but I would certainly assume so, I'm sure most if not all of full screen phones are just as durable.
I didn't even buy a back cover this time, and it's been great.
Anyways, consider going "naked" with your phone. It "feels better".

Thank you for the insight on the screens, I always carry my phone in my front pocket also and I'm worried about cracking the screen if I bend over against something and put pressure on the phone. I might just be overreacting on this but this is my first full screen smarty phone and I don't want to kill it.

Those screen protector films won't protect against the screen being cracked. Minor scratches, sure.
Having said that, it takes a *LOT* to crack the screens. Sure, it can be done easily, but I've seen iphones and htc incredibles lobbed across the room (not thrown like a baseball mind you, but tossed as if you were intending someone to catch it) and the person mis-threw and the phones were fine.
As far as scratches go......even if the phone does get scratched, (which is really hard to do and it needs to either be an extreme freak accident or something done intentionally, seriously I just took a fork to my nexus one tried to scratch it with the fork) the phone will still work. In order to scratch the screen I think you'd need to have something sharp and very hard, like a roofing nail or the tip of a steak knife.
The fork bent, and the screen is still not scratched.
I really understand where you are coming from on wanting to keep your phone in tip top shape, especially since the phones are expensive nowadays, but what I'm trying to say is don't worry about it so much.
The best thing you can do to not damage your phone is to not let them get wet. Don't be that guy at the bar with your phone sitting on the counter just waiting for some drunk guy to accidentally spill his beer on it.
Put that phone in your front pocket, even if you are wearing tight jeans, and have to crouch over, don't worry, your phone will be fine. I've been telling this over and over to a friend of mine who just recently got his first real phone (blah, an iphone 4s) and he treats the phone like it's an infant.
It's so funny. I'm not saying you should use your phone as a hammer to fix your roof, I'm just saying that the phones are rugged. Seriously, think about how many get sold, if they were so fragile, people would be up in arms every 2 weeks when their phone fell off the table.

normally I keep my phone in my front pocket with change and a lighter. I'm glad to hear that these phones are durable enough not to worry about them too much. Thanks for the insight on this.

I must be one unlucky guy then. I have always put screen protectors on my phone and kept them in cases. I always assume I'll resell the phone and a case offers me comfort in that sense.
With my N1, I needed to change the screen protector and took it off for a day. A DAY... I was careful with it, didn't put it anywhere crazy, nothing on it, etc. Somehow it managed to go from pristine to "big gash luckily not directly over the LCD".
The one time I dropped that phone (again, going "naked") during a change, I incurred a huge indentation on one of the corners. Anyone who's handled an N1 should realize how big a deal that is because the metalic parts of the body were thick aluminum. I really don't know how I managed that dent cuz it also happened from seat level.
From then on I've had the case and screen protectors for new phones BEFORE even having the phones in my hand. I'll agree with the fact that it takes a ton of force to crack the screen, but it also takes just the right angle just that 1 time to create the tortional force to crack the screen.
I've done Zagg as well as many of the glossy static based protectors. My issues with the static based glossy ones (and the Zagg) was with the corners coming up. My bad Zagg experience may simply have been on the N1 due to the screen being practically "above" the edge of the phone.
I've taken a major liking to the Stealth Shieldz offered on Amazon. The Zagg is just plain skin and I found a little difficult to apply. The Stealth Shieldz product is also a wet application (like the Zagg), but there's a hard plastic under the skin that helps it keep it's shape better, and for that I find it easier to apply. I also found it just lasted longer.
I wish the case options were better. Like a red/black version of the Incipio silicrylic... but the phone's still new, so i imagine the cases will come
I love this phone.

I figured I would post a update. I got the Zagg screen protector and love it. Well worth the $15. So far it's holding up great. I've had it on for about 3 weeks and no problems like the el cheap o protectors that would scratch from just sliding my fingers over the screen. And it has a lifetime warranty so if there is any problems I can send it back.

I just went with a case no screen protector. My phone is always in a safe place so I always come out with no scratches etc. When I do go with screen protector I often go with zagg or xtremeguard for my other phones.

Some of those protectors have a treatment on that that acts like polarization. I wear polarized lenses and if I turn the phone one way I can see everything, and if I turn it another, poof....it's gone.
I'd go to a store and try several out if this is a concern for you.

Ballistic case. So well made and feels so solid you want to drop it off your roof.
I personally have also always bought Skinomi screen protectors/full phone protectors on amazon. I NEVER get the dry screen protectors - I just suck at putting them on. Spraying a solution on the screen protector to install it also allows you to adjust where the protector is before it cures to the screen. Just make sure you do it quickly or you will be looking at the same bits of dust for a very long time!

I have always been huge at keeping screen protectors and cases on my phones. I have tried everything from the Matted protectors, to the really cheap ones, and I have tried the Invisible Shield by Zagg, and recently I bought a Ghost Armor protector for my phone. Apparently its supposed to be fingerprint resistant and grease and oil repellent, but it seems like it attracts oil and grease more than anything. The one thing that I hate about the Invisible Shield and the Ghost Armor is the material used. I know its supposed to be scratch resistant, but I hate the feeling of it. The whole rubbery material does not go well with a touchscreen phone, and your fingers stick alot. On top of that it has these weird ripples on it that make the screen look kinda weird. I am actually thinking of removing Ghost Armor and just going to the cheap ones that cost about $5

I am always the type of person who gets a screen protector within the first few hours of owning a phone, but I went about a week without one when I first got the Blaze because I couldn't find one, and have found that the screen is extremely scratch resistant and haven't bothered with one since.
3 months of typical use and so far not a single scratch on the screen, even after sharing the same pocket with some coins and keys.

I just ordered the Skinomi Drytech screen protector. Will update with pics and a brief review once it arrives.

Can anyone recommend a third party screen protector that actually works ?

Samsung says you shouldn't remove the OEM screen protector... but is it okay to do so?

If you ask me... I would recommend not to remove the OEM screen protector at the same time don't use any 3rd party screen protector too...

I use the Skinomi screen protector on mine, been using them since my Pixel 2 XL. The Samsung one is a flimsy piece of hard plastic that loves finger prints. So glad I took the "risk"
You can find a number of videos where people apply their own. Definitely recommend, but it is scary while you're doing it
My tip after applying it: Keep the phone unfolded overnight!

How long have you had the Skinomi protector on? Any problems? Does it feel as smooth as the stock protector? Does it cover the whole screen? Stock protector has small gaps all around the screen.

It feels so much better. I've had it on for about 3 months now. Keep in mind I never liked glass screen protectors. The 'rubbery' ones that require water feels better, and makes sense for a phone where you're not likely to drop it on the screen
No problems, just remember not to fold the phone for at least the day afterwards (I have a very small bubble there due to my impatience). Plus, the rubbery ones self heal so it always looks great. The fact that it never shows fingerprints too. No more constantly wiping the phone after every use
Yes I know exactly the issue with crap getting along the sides. So infuriating, but this one reaches the corners well. I also put the protector touching the very top of the phone as well to eliminate the top gaps so the only real gap is the very bottom, and that isn't touched as often as every other part of the phone. I also don't remember the last time I needed to clean it
In the picture, ignore the bottom gap gunk. It looks way worse on camera for some reason

When installing the Skinomi, what's the best way to deal with the hinge dip when "squeegeeing" the protector to the screen?
Just ordered the Skinomi.
I almost got T-Mobile to exchange the whole phone. They finally asked me when I bought it and determined it was still under Samsung warranty and directed me to Samsung.
Once again, Samsung sent me on a wild goose chase to Best Buy and the Samsung Experience section which, no longer exists at the 2 Best Buy's I tried.
Dismal support from Samsung!

Nice, that's the one I'm using
I think I first tried squeezing from middle outwards, but the phone did fine doing it normally (from top to bottom or vice versa). I was only worried about water getting into the hinges, but apparently these phones do well with water according to YouTube durability tests
I hear a lot of people with the same experience for the lack of Samsung support. It's a shame
