Hey all,
Nice forum here, plenty of good information. I've got a basic question. I've searched (here and google) and I'm pretty sure I get it but I just want to confirm before I make any purchase. I want the HTC Kaiser but the price difference between that and the Tilt is about $500 (I plan to upgrade contract anyway). That's just too much to justify for the same exact device on a college student's salary. I do need it to be unlocked though. So, if I understand correctly, it is possible to fully unlock this phone like this:
- For the SIM unlock call ATT and get them to give you the unlock code. Since I've been a customer for 5 years or so that shouldn't be a problem.
- For the CID unlock, run the HardSPL found on the sticky in this forum and then flash with a standard HTC ROM.
That's it, the phone is fully unlocked then, right? It won't be locked again, it won't be killed over-the air, etc... Again, I'm really sorry if this is repeated information, I just really want to be sure before I buy anything. Thanks for understanding.

1. If you're an AT&T customer, you won't need to SIM unlock the phone with the Tilt. But if you want to switch over to T-Mobile, then yeah, you can try calling AT&T and ask for them to for the unlock code.
2. Yep.
Hope that clarifies things.

I have done it and I am not even an ATT customer. Told them I bought the phone and I am going to England and need my international SIM to work. The guy immediately gave me an unlock code

I can verify that, I also unlocked tht Tilt, and am a T-Mo customer, ofcourse my first carrier was ATT, then Tmo, then Cingular and now am on Tmo for the past 2 years, so my info was already there.
Hey guys,
I just got an AT&T Tilt from ebay and getting shipped to Australia - can i call up AT&T and ask for it to be unlocked or is there a SIM unlock program that can do the job?
OK, I got the phone. Two more questions before I do this:
I downloaded RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.exe. Once I run HardSPL, do I just transfer this file to the phone and run it and it will flash to stock HTC firmware or is there something else? I was a bit confused by all the other ROM's and files on this forum.
Also, before calling AT&T, do I need to have a SIM from another provider to do the SIM unlock or no?
no dont transfer the file to your phone. download it to your computer, establish an activesync connection, and then run it from your computer. make sure you follow the instructions in the sticky. good luck, the htc rom is much cleaner and quicker than the atnt rom

You don't need another sim until you get the unlock code from AT&T. Once you do, put the other sim in your phone, boot it up, and enter the unlock code. It will say passcode accepted and your phone will be unlocked
Just got off the phone with AT&T (1-(916)-843-4685). I told them I was taking a trip to England, gave the IMEI and got my unlock code. So now I've got a fully unlocked phone and saved $500. Very nice.

Exactly how I got mine unlocked. Free is good
Just a question, Did you get your unlock code while still on the phone?
In other words, they gave you the code right away!
or you have to way a couple a days to get the code?
I did the same one time with TMO and have to way a week to get the code.
I just called ATT and they got all my info and told me that htc will email me the info in a week.
They gave it to me while I was on the phone. HTC has nothing to do with AT&T's unlock codes. Did you call the 916 number posted above? Call again and get a different rep who knows what they're doing!
I've tried calling that ATT number multiple times with no luck.
I am a TMobile customer and have never had ATT. The first question they ask is for my account information. I tried calling back 5 times and spoke to 5 different people and they all want my account info.
If anyone here can do it I would greatly appreciate and i'd even paypal you some money for being able to pull it off.

that seems like it'll work. have someone thats been on at&t for a while to call them up and give them your imei. What I'm not sure is if they have records of only at&t imei and they'll know if you have tmo imei.
Unlock tilt
Thanks, I called the number and told them that I am going over seas, got mine unlocked. Will take a few days after AT&T puts in a request to HTC for the unlock code. They'll send it via email.

Drop $20 on a GoPhone and give 'em that number - YMMV of course, but it's a cheap fix if it works - as it did for me...

Yeah, it took almost a month to get my V551 unlocked - between "misrouted" support requests, improper account information, and whatever real delays exist in getting codes from Motorola.
It's quite interesting that most Tilt people (myself included) have gotten codes immediately vs having them e-mailed - as had been ALL my previous experience.

So I've done a large amount of searching, not only on XDA but elsewhere to find a real 'answer' to my question, but I haven't found anything concrete, hence this thread.
I have aquired a Droid 2 Global from VZW for free, and I want to use it with my US ATT SIM, on the US ATT GSM Network.
Things i have done:
- Flashed the phone to the stock OS in order to....
- Flash the radio so it accepts ATT GSM signal
- Aquired the sim unlock code from ATT for my current phone/sim (I'm unclear on exactly what this whole sim unlock process is about, perhaps why I'm asking)
The phone boots, but when I have my SIM inserted, it asks for the unlock code.... What exactly IS it asking for?
The SIM unlock that I recieved from ATT doesn't work.. (I assume this is the unlock for my sim, in my current phone?)
What is the next step, if this is possible? I've looked at getting the phone unlock code via ebay, or one of the piggyback devices like TurboSIM, but I'm unsure what will work, if anything will work?
Help??
Thanks in advance for any info provided
It asks for the unlock code you can get from VZW's Global Support if you are a VZW customer.

Well, since I'm at ATT customer, how would I go about getting this code? I do have a friend that works for VZW, which is how i got the phone, and he is willing to assist me. Can he provide it?
The phone must be on an active line of service, and the billing history must be clean for the past 6 months.
If your friend works for Global Support, then maybe. If not, I doubt it.
Hmph..
I guess I overestimated the difficulty of getting this to work. It was just another case of having to get the unlock code from the phone itself via IMEI number, and yahtzee, working as I had hoped.
For some reason I had the notion that it was significantly more difficult after reading all of the posts about trying to get other SIMs to work.. but its actually very very straight forward and easy.. it just seemed that nobody had ever really made it clear that a US ATT sim could work on a VZW D2G handset with US ATT service.
Thanks for your input!
Hey everyone, I am in need of unbranding?(Is that what its called)? my HTC Sensation so I can use my AT&T sim card and have the phone available as my work phone, but I never have unbranded before, I am S-Off, I have Elegancia 3.6.5, and It is Tmobile U.S...i looked around but I am still confused...caould someone point me in the direction of the file(s) I need...and do I just flash this file or?...I hope not dumb questions, but there are so many roms/kernels, etc I dont fully understand the unbranding thing quite yet...Thanks so much....Dirty
To use different sim cards in your phone you need to sim unlock. If your phone is locked to orange for example, put a t-mobile sim in it and boot it. You will be asked for an unlock code. Call your carrier and request one, you may have to pay but it only has to be entered once and the phone will become permanently sim unlocked and won't be affected by flashing, rooting, modding etc...
There are sites online that offer to generate codes for you but IMHO don't trust them, go straight to your carrier. I'm on OrangeUK and was charged £15 for the code. Hope this helps..

I just flashed the .nbh file through recovery and it worked perfectly
Yesterday my brother bought an HTC 7 SURROUND phone......
as i booted it showed some DFT(dark forces team) which i suppose is to be some WP7 sutom rom's logo screen....
I doubt whether its an official htc rom.......
Maybe some cud plz help on my doubt........
Its sim unlocked i mean the operator is at&t but i can use other sims....coz its unlcoked. So is that maybe for unlcoking the sellers flash some unlocked rom? or sim unlcoking can be done without flashing unlocked rom?....
so in simple words i wanted to know whether the fone is used or not? since it has a DFT rom
And is it needed to flash a custom rom in order to sim unlock the fone so that other operator sim cards can be used or sim unlocking doesnt need any custom rom flshing.
wanted to confirm. plz help!...
No..
I believe that SIM Unlock and ROM Unlock are different.
You've got a both full unlocked, and SIM unlocked phone. I guess that means its 2nd use phone.
Sorry, bro.
It's hard to parse out what you mean in your message, so I'll tell you what I think.
Custom ROM's do not perform SIM-Unlock. You need a code for that.
If your device booted up with DFT, then it has definitely received some form of rooting/custom treatment. Were the device untouched, it would give a splash screen of HTC or the carrier that it was sold through.
@anseio is correct.
First of all, you definitely have a second-hand phone. It sounds like your phone has a DFT (custom) ROM installed on it, which means somebody had to first modify the bootloader (install HSPL) and then re-flash the ROM. This is not necessarily a bad thing, and you can re-flash a stock ROM to it easily if you want to, but if you expect the phone to be new... it's not.
Also, I'm not sure why you'd expect the phone to come with WP7.0. These days, all new Windows phones should come with WP7.5 (Mango) or later; Mango came out over six months ago. If you realllly want an older version of the OS for soem reason, though, you can find an old stock ROM and flash that.
As for the SIM unlock, that's completely independent of the custom ROM or unlocked bootloader. It could even be the way the phone was originally; is it carrier branded (i.e. does it say "AT&T" or perhaps some Indian mobile operator's name/logo on it somewhere, for example)? Some phones are sold already SIM-unlocked. SIM unlock isn't going to hurt anything, in fact, outside the US I would never put up with a SIM-locked phone and even inside the US I would never buy a phone that I couldn't SIM-unlock (because I like to travel).
thnx for ur reply guys.

Ok so I'm in tmobile prepaid.
I have a galaxy s10e that is was purchased full price from someone else. We verified everything at a tmobile store. The unlock was approved and i got the email approval. The tmobile device unlock app for this phone doesn't work. So I have to go to settings>network>more>network unlock
Or something like that. I get an error message that ends in 0x86
On both temp and perm unlock
I already went through it with tech support 17 diff calls. Nothing. Nobody knows what this error is. Ine tech guy gave me two sets of numbers. Both 8 digits. I believe these are the nck or unlock codes but my question or rather what I need help in is inputting these codes. I tried the generic ones I found online to no avail. The dial codes is what I'm talking about. Also when I reset with unlocked rom it still says to put tmobile sim. And doesn't give me a option to input unlock code that I have
I even called Samsung and they cant help me bc it's a tmobile phone. Tmobile doesn't know how to input the code when I do mention it. And yes I reset the phone put a diff sim. Tried with Abd w/o wifi. Everything.
So now I flashed the U1 rom on it amd the unlock options in the network settings is no longer there. Obviously bc u flashed the unlocked rom on it.
Any suggestions? Tmobile is giving me minimal help bc I'm a prepaid customer
