Which file for Unbranding? - HTC Sensation

Hey everyone, I am in need of unbranding?(Is that what its called)? my HTC Sensation so I can use my AT&T sim card and have the phone available as my work phone, but I never have unbranded before, I am S-Off, I have Elegancia 3.6.5, and It is Tmobile U.S...i looked around but I am still confused...caould someone point me in the direction of the file(s) I need...and do I just flash this file or?...I hope not dumb questions, but there are so many roms/kernels, etc I dont fully understand the unbranding thing quite yet...Thanks so much....Dirty

To use different sim cards in your phone you need to sim unlock. If your phone is locked to orange for example, put a t-mobile sim in it and boot it. You will be asked for an unlock code. Call your carrier and request one, you may have to pay but it only has to be entered once and the phone will become permanently sim unlocked and won't be affected by flashing, rooting, modding etc...
There are sites online that offer to generate codes for you but IMHO don't trust them, go straight to your carrier. I'm on OrangeUK and was charged £15 for the code. Hope this helps..

AT&T Subsidy Unlock directions

I bought the unlock code for my Fuze online. I do not have a non-AT&T sim and do not want to remove and re-insert my SIM.
Does anyone who's previously received an unlock code from AT&T provide me their instructions on how to apply the unlock code?
In my previous devices AT&T provide me a string of numbers/symbols plus the subsidy unlock code.
Thanks for the help.
the first step is to get the unlock code, easiest is to call them and tell them that you are travelling overseas and will need to use a local provider. you'll also need a sim card from another GSM provider, i don't think there is a way around this. you turn off the phone, then insert the other sim card, then start it, the phone will ask you to provide the unlock code.

I got my Fuze from AT&T before they made the mandatory 'data plan on ALL smartphones' went into effect. I bought my unlock code from eBay. I want to enter the code without having to use a non-AT&T sim card. From various boards it seems like taking the sim out, using a different sim, and then going back to the original sim would somehow tag the smartphone as needing the data plan. So bottom line is that I want to avoid AT&T's bullsh*t data requirements/policies.
On my Nokias I would enter a string of symbols with the unlock code on the dialpad and the phone is unlocked.
I wanted to get the instructions from Fuze users who called into AT&T and got the unlock code. What were the AT&T instructions? Would AT&T tell users to insert a non-AT&T sim just to unlock?
This board has been extremely helpful and I appreciate all the help.

AFAIK, the only reason you can need the unlock code, is to use such phone with another carrier, e.g. t-mobile, or overseas. don't see the relationship between the unlock code and att's new policy
anyway, i think you still have to find a sim card from another carrier to apply the unlock code.
Maybe there's a way to unlock the phone with the unlock code without using another sim card, but I've never heard of it. And what's the point, anyway? If you want to unlock the phone, you clearly want to use another sim card (and presumably have/will have one). I really doubt that unlocking that way is going to alert ATT that you don't have a data plan (how will they know when their sim isn't even in the phone??). You're going to put the other sim card in there sooner or later. This sounds like the type of crap that an ATT rep would say.
The only other way to unlock the phone is with Olipro's unlocker. That does not require another sim card, but it does flash/hack the phone.
Yes. I agree that the line you gave would be AT&T-ish. I'm on the fence right now about switching away from AT&T but have a decent deal via a family plan. I wanted to unlock my Fuze just in case that day came.
Just find someone who's on t-mobile, borrow their card, and get it over with. I unlocked my fuze (non-contract variety) the day I got it and have used it on t-mobile (cheapo pre-paid card) ever since. I also have an Orange UK card that I've used a couple times. ATT hasn't called me yet to tell me I need a data plan, lol.

Network locked sensations.

I am planning to buy a second hand sensation from eBay and wanted to know if the phone is locked or unlocked to a network. Can I then load on the same software you would get on a sim free version. The reason for this is so I can get ota updates when HTC send them and not have to wait for the network provider to tinker before hand.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm not sure that you could tell whether it was tied to a network without asking the seller.
The tied phones are no different to the SIM-free ones, except that they have the "S-ON" set, are not rooted, and in some cases (e.g. Orange) are loaded with bloatware (who really wants a 3-turn demo of monopoly that cannot easily be removed?! )
However, once you have the phone, you can use the instructions on this site, e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 to break it free and install whatever you want!
As far as updates go, they seem to appear here far faster than they get pushed out, and there are some much better than stock ROMs. If you want to stay stock, look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033. In addition, some kind soul has collated all the ROMS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559 so that you can change as you want.
I would just buy it and not worry!
Ok just got a sensation off ebay for £240 and its locked to orange. will follow advice from links above to root and get s off etc but from the list of roms which is the current and most up to date stock uk unlocked sim free rom?
will this also give the same root and s off to flash any rom i wish?
http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone
Bootloader unlocking, rooting, and getting S-OFF.... all have nothing to do with SIM unlocking. Your phone will still be locked to only Orange SIMs unless you obtain and enter an unlock code.
follow steps here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107
you need to root etc first.. then sim unlock
That's odd.
I didn't do the extra step, and I was able to use a T-Mobile SIM regardless. Mine came from Orange too. Perhaps there are some that are unlocked anyway, or perhaps it's because T-Mobile are part of the same group now??
In any case, glad that someone was able to help out!

[Q] [q] d2g + us att sim?

So I've done a large amount of searching, not only on XDA but elsewhere to find a real 'answer' to my question, but I haven't found anything concrete, hence this thread.
I have aquired a Droid 2 Global from VZW for free, and I want to use it with my US ATT SIM, on the US ATT GSM Network.
Things i have done:
- Flashed the phone to the stock OS in order to....
- Flash the radio so it accepts ATT GSM signal
- Aquired the sim unlock code from ATT for my current phone/sim (I'm unclear on exactly what this whole sim unlock process is about, perhaps why I'm asking)
The phone boots, but when I have my SIM inserted, it asks for the unlock code.... What exactly IS it asking for?
The SIM unlock that I recieved from ATT doesn't work.. (I assume this is the unlock for my sim, in my current phone?)
What is the next step, if this is possible? I've looked at getting the phone unlock code via ebay, or one of the piggyback devices like TurboSIM, but I'm unsure what will work, if anything will work?
Help??
Thanks in advance for any info provided
It asks for the unlock code you can get from VZW's Global Support if you are a VZW customer.

Well, since I'm at ATT customer, how would I go about getting this code? I do have a friend that works for VZW, which is how i got the phone, and he is willing to assist me. Can he provide it?
The phone must be on an active line of service, and the billing history must be clean for the past 6 months.
If your friend works for Global Support, then maybe. If not, I doubt it.
Hmph..
I guess I overestimated the difficulty of getting this to work. It was just another case of having to get the unlock code from the phone itself via IMEI number, and yahtzee, working as I had hoped.
For some reason I had the notion that it was significantly more difficult after reading all of the posts about trying to get other SIMs to work.. but its actually very very straight forward and easy.. it just seemed that nobody had ever really made it clear that a US ATT sim could work on a VZW D2G handset with US ATT service.
Thanks for your input!

How to tell if it is SIM locked or not..?

Is there a way to tell if the htc one s is SIM locked or not..?
I've got the one s which has O2 CID and runs O2 version of JB on it but I don't think the phone is actually sim locked as o2 dont tend to sim lock their phones, is there a way to tell without getting hold of a different carrier sim..?
Thanks

Put another SIM Card in it. If you're referring to O2 - UK then I assure you that the phone will be locked. Unless you buy it from phones4u, carphone warehouse or fonehouse, the phone will ALWAYS be simlocked. It's the networks way of making sure your custom stays with them, becuase they know that most people can't be arsed to go through the hassle of unlocking your phone. If you're planning on rooting, you can SIM unlock your phone for free, and there is absolutely zero risk of you breaking the phone because you're not re-writing any files, you just need SuperUser access to read them.

HTC One E8 (Sprint) Unlock Issue

I've run into a bit of a roadblock in the process of unlocking my HTC One E8 from Sprint. I called up Sprint and received an unlock code; however, upon inserting my new SIM (T-Mobile), I was not prompted to enter an unlock code. After speaking with Sprint again I was told that the actual unlock process would have to be completed on T-Mobile's end. So, I took the phone to T-Mobile and a representative attempted to unlock the phone but said he couldn't do it (The store was busy so all he tried to do was edit the APN settings, but he was unable to do so and quickly told me he would be unable to assist me further).
So pretty much I am sitting here with an unlock code, but no actual way (or knowledge) of how to use it to unlock the phone to work with T-Mobile. I feel like the answer is quite simple, but after looking through numerous forum posts I have not come across anyone with the same problem or a solution. I fear that my only remaining option is to root/s-off to unlock this phone. As someone who is not well versed in all things technical, I hope that there are other options for me to explore.
Any help at all is very much appreciated!
you have to have s off to order to unlock the phone with any sim carrier
