phone wont download to ext memory card - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

have a verizon s3 with a pnk 32 gig hc memory card. i can not get anything to download to the external memory while on my phone.is this just a memory card thing? this is the second one of these i have tried.

Are you meaning DL from a browser or transferring data to the sdcard? I use Chrome and there isn't any option to change download location within it or the stock browser. That may be your issue.

Check settings>advanced and make sure it says memory card instead of device where it says downloads.

downloading from browser on phone. there is an option in the stock browser, just hit menu key then its right there

Oh ok. I don't use the stock browser. So you changed it and it still won't dl to the ext card?

I'm not running CM10 but I can say that ROM is probably at least 150MB. Every nightly you download and don't delete is taking up space on one of your SD cards.
The updater app should tell you where it is downloading the files to.

OP doesn't know where they are, tho I believe the CM10 updater allows you to pick and choose to delete files.
OP: I'm not positive but I believe there's a directory made on the internal sdcard called cmupdater or something to that effect. I haven't been on CM10 for almost a month.

Skyrocket detects external 32gb microsd card, but won't be read by...

I just recently purchased a 32gb class 10 micro sd card for my skyrocket, and it works perfectly fine.
The only issue i have is that the microsd card won't be read unless i use a file manager such as astro.. Apps like gallery or mxplayer won't read the microsd card.
This didn't happen with the 16gb class 4 micro sd card, so what is happening?
Anyway to fix this issue?
Thanks

Is there anyway to make the paths so the phone can determine its correct location?
Could it be the difference in size of the card itself too?

Yes, i am rebooting.
Only issue is that to view images in apps like gallery or mxplayer, the folder has to be on the root of the sdcard. Before i had a group of folders in one, and now it won't let me do this.

Unable to factory reset... Wtf?!?!

OK so I got this skyrocket from a friend, but for some reason i cant get rid of his data. I've tried regular factory reset via settings, also I tried flashing the stock ROM with Odin, both seem to work fine, I'm not getting any errors or anything, but when I reboot the phone afterward its still exactly the same, all his apps, accounts, data is still there. I also tried to install cwm via Odin which also said was successful, but then the stock recovery is still on the phone any help would be greatly appreciated, I've had a few sammys in my day so I know my way around Odin / heimdall etc... But this is puzzling

I just tried that right now, still no luck. Yea that's what I was thinking, its like the whole system is set to read-only. Some sort of chip failure maybe. Bummer cause the phone looks like brand new, not a scratch or knick on it

I might be wrong but this sounds like what happens when you have a corrupted emmc. If I am right, this is a hardware issue. One quick way to check is to flash the latest official firmware via ODIN. If I am right, either Odin will fail or you will have the exact same ROM you have now even after Odin install.

Can you write to the internal SD once in the Android? For example when you take a photo or download a file does it get saved on the phone? If the answer is yes then it cannot be a hardware issue. Just a permission cluster-fu..
Get a Linux environment ( boot up your PC with a live CD or something) mount the drive use root su/sudo commands to set chmod 777 on the entire mount

it very well could be hw issue, the internal sd card is not the same partition as the system partition, writing successfully to the int sd has no bearing on the nand failure

Topprospect posted a long complicated thread when he had the super brick. If I remember correctly, it involved some ROM code changes to use external SD card as the primary memory. I don't remember if it worked for him. Maybe worth a shot if all else fails and you really really want to use the phone.

It will boot loop you.
As for TWRP, just use GooManager and open it, hit menu install open recovery script and hit yes a few times.
