[Q] HDMI, VGA, stuff - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am learning more about this wonderful system, but now have a question. I finally received by hdmi adapter. Seems to work fine with my TV.
However, I also want to use this in the classroom. So I got the hdmi to vga adapter. It works but the output image is low resolution like 640x480 or 7xx by 4xx, depending on the projector. These projectors can handle hi rez (e.g., 1020x728, adn higher) as I use them with my laptop. So the question is, can we control the output resolution as I can not find anywhere the ability to do that? Is there an app?
Thanks for the help and after waiting for 2 months this is kind of disappointing.

Zpad Dock HDMI Quality Bad

Hey all,
I finally got a chance to test the HDMI from my Zpad Dock (I'm using a Zpad T2 / SMB-A1002-3G)
I tried two different monitors (LCD TV's) and the quality is BAD!!!!
I've already got computers connected to these TV's and the quality is very good from the computers.
The video was ok'ish but the text and home screen was so bad you wouldn't use it.
Is there a way to change the resolution to the HDMI port like on a Windows computer?
Cheers, Mal.
Did you try an hd movie.,..mine worked very well
It looks to me like it's doing a very poor 720p upconversion. Videos will always look better than text or graphics when upconverted... but I suspect its still being upconverted from tablet screen resolution.
I'm disappointed with the quality. Maybe a future kernel or driver update will help. I also suspect this is the reason that vs didn't have (and still don't) the docks on sale next to the gtablets.
**edit**
GO JETS!!!!!!
The HD Video looks ok, but text was a much better test for me. I wanted to have a larger screen because I run RDP.
Can you adjust it anywhere. The other worry is that I somehow removed the HDMI settings when I reset my Zpad a while ago (I lost a few other programs that were not installed on ROM, eg Flash).
Thanks
I have no settings relating to HDMI or video out at all. TNTLite 3.1.4, lagfix & clemsons 10.9.8 kernal.
I just got my Zpad and i hooked up the HDMI and It didnt do anything. Do I need to change something in the settings? Im running Vegan-Tab. but then I pluged in the power supply and it worked fine.

Power to the dock is needed to run the HDMI. That's why a cable for HDMI out hasn't been made yet for the zpad or Gtab.
What does the text quality look like from yours.
I can tell you that I have mine connected to a 1080p monitor via hdmi,
the visuals in whole look grainy, like it needs antialasing.
I just saw a video of the xoom on youtube and that guy had it connected to a 52" and I did not see the same grainy look.
I think it has to do with the resolution, ours is set at 1024 x 600 while the xoom is 1280 x 800.
I was wondering if there was a way to change the output resolution and not the tablet resolution?
Agree, it would be very handy to be able to do that.
Well I had grainy text and picture issues once I received my dock. Upon replacing the hdmi cable with a high quality cable did I notice a huge difference in picture and video quality. My HD movies look great, screen size (using a projector) is beautiful and the sharpness. The screen improved ten fold. Sound, picture, resolution, 1080p! all with a 20 foot HDMI cable. Even 3D support looks great!
HDMI cable
Well, guys, where to get a good quality HDMI cable from? And does the same cable work without dock as well?
If you're planning on running an ICS build, i would stay away from the cable as it does not work.

HDMI to VGA issues/ Cannot interface with external display using VGA

I bought the Asus genuine Micro HDMI to VGA converter http://www.asus.com/Peripherals_Acc...ories/Micro_HDMI_to_VGA_cable/#specifications to connect my TF700T.
However, when I use this to connect to either an external Lenovo monitor, or a multimedia projector, the display is not accurate - just a part of the total screen from my TF is mirrored to the external device !
I now note in the specifications that this is compatible with the TF201 and TF300 - no mention of TF700. Is that because of the enhanced resolution of the TF700 as compared to the older ones?
Can someone please help ? I desperately need this working to get my TF up and running for professional use. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
To add on - the TF700 does show an updated status at the bottom saying micro HDMI connected - but that is on insertion of the connector. Also, I do get an output signal on the LCD monitor and on the LCD projector, but I do not get an output on my LCD TV using VGA.
You could write Gary Key a message maybe he can answer this.
Please keep us up-to-date as this is also an important feature for me, thanks!

Thanks for the one-up. I did write to him, but only got an auto-responder. Shall try writing again. Till then, looks like I am stuck
This is strange... Perhaps it can be solved with some firmware update(?). I'm hoping it does because this is one feature that I need to do presentations in school =/
Interested in this as well, I was planning on using it for presentations, I don't see why there should be any hardware limitations to this :/
'Take cuttrren
This is serious one. It happens so that for now micro HDMI is useless in TF700...
OP any updates on this? This is something that I'm really looking forward to doing with the Infinity =/
I have a hdmi to micro hdmi that I used with my prime. It worked on my two tv's. If the hdmi on the 700 doesn't work when it gets delivered I'm returning it.

HDMI to VGA adapter

Wasn't able to find confirmation elsewhere, so I thought I'd post here to let folks know: the HDMI to VGA dongle for the TF300 does, indeed, work with the Infinity. I haven't been able to test it with my projector, but it works with the monitor just fine. The dongle disables speaker output, but the headphone jack still works.
Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006AR1QAA/
FYI, the less expensive CableMatters adapter does NOT work. Save your time and money.
I can confirmed that i ordered this product (from amazon too) and it worked on my Asus Zenbook UX31E & my Asus Infinity tablet
Can you confirm if it worked with your projector, and more details pls

Hi - I bought the same one, but it is not working with my TF700 I tried connecting it to a lenovo external desktop monitor, a VGA projector, and even a plasma tv with a VGA in - and none of them worked !
What configuration did you carry out? Are any tweaks to be done on the tablet itself?
Any details you can share will be appreciated !

Assuming you got the one I linked in my post, complete with the "Asus" logo, there are no settings: it's just plug-and-play. Could be you got stuck with a faulty adapter or (worse yet) a tablet with a faulty HDMI port. I'd try to RMA the adapter through Amazon and try a different one. If you get the same problem, sounds like your tablet might be the source of the difficulty.
I'm using this one ^ too and it's working fine for producing the right output on external monitor, but I'm not happy with it overall, as for some reason it LAGS the device, so the lagged output on a bigger screen is what I get with it...
Got a response from Asus and its more complicated now

Got a reply from Asus "Unlike a PC, Android on the tablet doesn't allow any resolution adjustments. So it'll be outputting 1920x1200. You didn't mention the make/model of the projector but you should check the available input range and check how this is handled, especially if it's not a full hd projector. Also check the projector settings and see what options are allowed for zoom/scaling the input."
So what they are saying is that this will only work with devices that support 1920x1200 as a resolution on VGA input. Can you confirm if your device does that, or does it have a max resolution which is less than this?
I checked my devices and both the plasma tv and the LCD projector are only capable upto SXGA (1280x1024) on the VGA interface. Now my questions revolve around the Asus MicroHD to VGA converter - does this only provide as an output what is the input? I noted that this works with the TF300 and TF200 as well - both of them are at 1280x800 - which means that this cable should be capable of outputting that signal... is there a way to make the cable downconvert to a static output of 1280x800? Or is it hardwired to output only what it receives as an input?
Asus is feeding you false information. It will not output the full resolution of the tablet no matter what you do.

I have never seen the crop or scale options on my tf700... not sure how any of you have seen that with a stock ROM. Here is the kick with a 1920x1200 monitor.... it will output 1920x1080! It will not allow you to output the entire desktop unless the monitor scales the image itself. Once it is scaling and you can see the system bar, now go into settings hdmi.. then hit back. You will see the image fill the horizontal resolution properly, but vertical is cropped and cuts off the system bar. In either mode, you will get 1080 on the vertical res.
I WISH it would output the full res with ANY HDMI monitor!! I have several monitors that are at the native res and none of them will allow you to display the screen properly. If anyone has any ideas how to force the hdmi res to the native res of the tablet, please let me know! This would solve an issue that I have been trying to fix or find a workaround to ever since the release of this tab.
The acer branded mini hdmi to vga adapter also works with the tf700
$15 at office depot.

Micro HDMI Adapter

So I read the ASUS Micro HDMI to VGA adapter will only output the internal resolution of the Infinity.
That way I can't use my tab to present at my university.
Is there an adapter that will allow other resolutions?
Is there a software to change it? Maybe this is working with Cyanogen-Mod? Or is it impossible to do at all?
Does the same apply to Micro HDMI to HDMI adapters?
PS: Maybe people who already bought an adapter could post them here and their experience?

I bought one of these and it works just fine @ 1080. I'm not sure what other resolutions you're needing to support.

Oh I noticed you need it converted to VGA output correct? If so, just cable adapter won't convert the from digital (HDMI) to analog (VGA). It needs to pass through a converter box that supports HDMI input ---> VGA output.
Yes sure, I hope that is what the "ASUS Micro HDMI to VGA" adapter does

Surely does,:good: although you don't need ASUS brand unless you don't mind paying a premium. any converter box that supports HDMI ---> VGA will do the job.
This would do the trick and save you some $

Is there any "driver" MHL app, to make a support & connect every phone with TV via MicroHDMI (from Type C microUSB port & without device specific hardware support)???

[Q] Force MHL/HDMI output resolution

hi,
is there any way to force the MHL/HDMI output resolution?
The dirty hacks and apps in lots of threads I've tested do not work as expected.
The resolution always depends on the device I'm connected to.
I'm currently running CM11 and I'd like to ask you, if it's possible in any way to force the output resolution to e.g. [email protected] (custom kernel?).
Playing games with 1080p is horrible because of the lag.
Thanks in advance!
ciao
Expensive Solution
Probably the easiest but most expensive solution -.-

I think this is not possible.. MHL outputs exactly same what is on mobile phone
