Wasn't able to find confirmation elsewhere, so I thought I'd post here to let folks know: the HDMI to VGA dongle for the TF300 does, indeed, work with the Infinity. I haven't been able to test it with my projector, but it works with the monitor just fine. The dongle disables speaker output, but the headphone jack still works.

FYI, the less expensive CableMatters adapter does NOT work. Save your time and money.
I can confirmed that i ordered this product (from amazon too) and it worked on my Asus Zenbook UX31E & my Asus Infinity tablet
Can you confirm if it worked with your projector, and more details pls

Hi - I bought the same one, but it is not working with my TF700 I tried connecting it to a lenovo external desktop monitor, a VGA projector, and even a plasma tv with a VGA in - and none of them worked !
What configuration did you carry out? Are any tweaks to be done on the tablet itself?
Any details you can share will be appreciated !

Assuming you got the one I linked in my post, complete with the "Asus" logo, there are no settings: it's just plug-and-play. Could be you got stuck with a faulty adapter or (worse yet) a tablet with a faulty HDMI port. I'd try to RMA the adapter through Amazon and try a different one. If you get the same problem, sounds like your tablet might be the source of the difficulty.
I'm using this one ^ too and it's working fine for producing the right output on external monitor, but I'm not happy with it overall, as for some reason it LAGS the device, so the lagged output on a bigger screen is what I get with it...
Got a response from Asus and its more complicated now

Got a reply from Asus "Unlike a PC, Android on the tablet doesn't allow any resolution adjustments. So it'll be outputting 1920x1200. You didn't mention the make/model of the projector but you should check the available input range and check how this is handled, especially if it's not a full hd projector. Also check the projector settings and see what options are allowed for zoom/scaling the input."
So what they are saying is that this will only work with devices that support 1920x1200 as a resolution on VGA input. Can you confirm if your device does that, or does it have a max resolution which is less than this?
I checked my devices and both the plasma tv and the LCD projector are only capable upto SXGA (1280x1024) on the VGA interface. Now my questions revolve around the Asus MicroHD to VGA converter - does this only provide as an output what is the input? I noted that this works with the TF300 and TF200 as well - both of them are at 1280x800 - which means that this cable should be capable of outputting that signal... is there a way to make the cable downconvert to a static output of 1280x800? Or is it hardwired to output only what it receives as an input?
Asus is feeding you false information. It will not output the full resolution of the tablet no matter what you do.
Cross posted from another thread here:

I have never seen the crop or scale options on my tf700... not sure how any of you have seen that with a stock ROM. Here is the kick with a 1920x1200 monitor.... it will output 1920x1080! It will not allow you to output the entire desktop unless the monitor scales the image itself. Once it is scaling and you can see the system bar, now go into settings hdmi.. then hit back. You will see the image fill the horizontal resolution properly, but vertical is cropped and cuts off the system bar. In either mode, you will get 1080 on the vertical res.
I WISH it would output the full res with ANY HDMI monitor!! I have several monitors that are at the native res and none of them will allow you to display the screen properly. If anyone has any ideas how to force the hdmi res to the native res of the tablet, please let me know! This would solve an issue that I have been trying to fix or find a workaround to ever since the release of this tab.
The acer branded mini hdmi to vga adapter also works with the tf700

Hi !
I want to use an external screen with my TF. I spotted some stuff on ebay I think might work, but I'm not totally sure. Since shipping will take 3 weeks at least, I'd like to be 100% sure it will be the right one for the TF.
My screen doesn't have hdmi, it's a VGA / DVI screen, so I was thinking of buying an hdmi to DVI cable, and an Hdmi to mini hdmi adapter to plug it into the TF. Will this work ? Or is there something like the stupid USB port that will accept only the Asus usb adapter to be able to communicate with it ? (I'm pretty pissed of with that one, since I can't find it cheap in my country, and the only websites I found in the US willing to ship to Switzerland quoted me shipping a 200$)
That the stuff I was planning on buying :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
and
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
What do you think ? Might work ?
Thanks !
i've done this exact thing recently.. it works well.. I sat one of my monitors next to my bed and streamed some tv.
Though when i got the mini-hdmi to hdmi adapter.. it came with a pretty nice screen protector, too.
TL;DR: yes it will work.

Thanks ! I'll do that, then ! For my part, it's to view pdfs (like Photoshop magazines) on a bigger screen while having the ability to flip through the pages. I already have two screens on the computer, can't put a third one without changing the graphic card, so I thought putting it on the TF would be a nice solution
that's a pretty good idea! its nice for watching shows in bed... or ircing with a bluetooth keyboard, too. ;D

So, some news about my oh so great idea...
I finally received both the dvi - hdmi cable and the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter. I was very excited, plugged it in the screen and in the TF, and... "check cable signal". Yep. I tried finding stuff on the internet, nothing. Then my screen wouldn't work anymore altogether, I was a bit panicked. But yeah, as I like to live dangerously, I plugged it in my other screen... nothing, "check cable signal". (and then the screen wouldn't work anymore either and it took half an hour to get it back on the PC after switching cables, going VGA mode, playing with graphic card settings...)
I thought, maybe the TF isn't sending the signal properly, let's try the camera (Nex from Sony, with hdmi). Same thing, "check cable signal".
So now, my question... Is it possible both my screens are too old to be able to get hdmi signal ? (seems weird, but why not, they are not HD and don't have any hdmi entry) Or is the most probable scenario that my cable isn't working properly ? Or can it be the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter ? I only have my TF and my Nex with hdmi outputs, and they are mini hdmi, I have no other gear I can try with.
What do you think ? Screen is too old or cable is faulty ?
Are your monitors HDCP?
Sent from my ADR6400L
No idea... How do I check that ? (but I read from a guy who put the TF on external monitor by using an hdmi - vga cable, surely it was not an hdcp screen)
I believe you should be fine. If the monitor/tv supports DVI (Digital Video Interface) then you will be fine with an HDMI to DVI adapter as HDMI is also a digital video signal. Now if it was HDMI to VGA (analog video) then you would need a converter of some type.

I had the same problem, and it appears that my monitor does not handle the tf101 resolution through dvi (1280x960).
And there is actually no way to lower the tf101 output resolution through hdmi, afaik.
So check on the screen's manual the max resolution your monitors could handle through dvi (be careful,
it might be different than from vga).
my screen is in 1650x1050, or something like that. The other one should be at least a 1280x960. So it might be that the cable is not working properly ? How can I know if the problem is with the cable and not with the hdmi mini hdmi converter ? What do you think is more likely ?
Depends on the brand of cable and adapter. Usually the HDMI to mini HDMI adapter doesn't break, as it's just a block of plastic (in my case at least)
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Ok, I'll probably go and buy a new cable tomorrow. But I'm thinking about something : I figured the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter + cable puts a strain on the hdmi slot in the TF, so I'm wondering if it might be better to buy an hdmi mini hdmi cable, and an hdmi dvi adapter instead. The strain would be put on the external screen, but that's ok since the dvi is screwed to the screen.
Your opinion ?
I tried exactly what you are doing a few Weeks back, after assuming it would work and trying many combinations of wires I finally searched and found zero confirmed reports that you can use a dvi to hdmi cable for video output.
What I found works is going with a dvi to vga converter, its more expensive but looks like the only way without a straight hdmi to hdmi connection. Asus actually makes a converter for this purpose, HP also has one... I think they are both in the $40-50 range. I don't have links but just google Asus or HP hdmi to VGA converter
Good luck

Thanks for that ! That way I won't have to buy another cable and have it not work. But, big question... why on earth are there hdmi to dvi cables if there is no way to convert video signal from hdmi to dvi ??? What use are these cables ?
BTW, I have a DVI to VGA converter, do you think I should try and stick it on my hdmi dvi cable ? (the thing is lying around, if I can get some use for it, I might as well try)
The Asus thing seems a great idea and I will probably end up buying it.
One thing I don't understand though... Why mini hdmi to VGA ??? Why not mini hdmi to DVI, if that needs a converter anyway, better make it dvi, no ? What about the resolution ? I don't want to get a stupid resolution on my screen because of problems with VGA (and I'm lucky I've still got a screen with VGA and DVI...).
Actually, what about a cable like this one ?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
I would be pissed of if I have to pay $50 for asus adapter if I can get one for 8$ on ebay...
Never mind, after a quick search on the internet, some people tried and it doesn't work...
But actually, I HAVE to ask. Why doesn't it work ? What is the problem ? hdmi is digital, dvi is digital... WHY ???
(I haven't ordered my adapter from asus yet, still looking for a cheaper solution.)
Edit again : what I saw that doesn't work was the hdmi to VGA cable, I couldn't find anything about hdmi to dvi... I might go to the shop tomorrow with the TF and ask if I can try a cable there...
Mini hdmi to hdmi to hdmi-dvi converter works. I've tested this configuration myself.
For the vga, you need a converter, like the asus hdmi-vga one.
Just check the xda forum, searching with hdmi dvi keywords.
You'll have the answers to your question by digging a little more.
My lg monitor works fine with mini hdmi to hdmi to dvi. The ui is in 720p on the screen but if you play 1080p HW accelerated video the resolution changes as well. Wanna see a picture of proof? ;-)
I also have the converter and this works also fine. Have a look at the thread in the Accessoires forum.

Firstly, the video part of HDMI is electrically compatible with DVI, that is, they are the same thing just over different wires in a different connector.
However
TFT monitors _may_ not sync down to the specific TV-based refresh rates that HDMI outputs often use. Unless your monitor advertises that it will do the TV resolutions/refresh rates like 1080p/720p etc then its unlikely the TF1010 will display on them. The video output of the TF101 is 720p scaled up to a 1080p signal can your monitors do 1080p?
I haven't the slightest clue... One is quite old, a samsung 2232BW (but that's my main display, so I won't use it with my TF) and the other one is about 1 year old, an HP crap given with a cheap computer...
I might as well buy the cable. Other than that, if my monitor can't handle the 1080p, would it work with the asus hdmi to vga converter ?
(BTW, the prices in the shop are totaly crazy. I went today and saw that the hdmi to dvi cables were about $90, and I found one on ebay, $7 shipping included, gold plated, 3 years warranty)
I bought the Asus genuine Micro HDMI to VGA converter http://www.asus.com/Peripherals_Acc...ories/Micro_HDMI_to_VGA_cable/#specifications to connect my TF700T.
However, when I use this to connect to either an external Lenovo monitor, or a multimedia projector, the display is not accurate - just a part of the total screen from my TF is mirrored to the external device !
I now note in the specifications that this is compatible with the TF201 and TF300 - no mention of TF700. Is that because of the enhanced resolution of the TF700 as compared to the older ones?
Can someone please help ? I desperately need this working to get my TF up and running for professional use. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
To add on - the TF700 does show an updated status at the bottom saying micro HDMI connected - but that is on insertion of the connector. Also, I do get an output signal on the LCD monitor and on the LCD projector, but I do not get an output on my LCD TV using VGA.

This is strange... Perhaps it can be solved with some firmware update(?). I'm hoping it does because this is one feature that I need to do presentations in school =/

I purchased this adapter from monoprice, and I cannot get a picture to show up on an external monitor.
I've tried a samsung which is 1920x1200 and a dell that is 1920x1080. Neither monitors detect a signal.
The cable and adapter work with my phone (LG G2X - tegra 2 based); but the picture is 800x480.
has anyone got this to work, and if so, was there a trick to it?
On my old prime I used a micro HDMI adapter a HDMI cable then a HDMI to dvi and that worked. Not sure about the infinity though
Your monitor also has to support the resolution that the Infinity outputs at (1920x1080 60hz). I have two wide screen LCD Monitors and one supports this resolution and the other does not.
My dell support 1080p natively, and my samsung supports it via scaling. I have used the same cable and adapter to hook up my tegra 2 based phone running 2.3.4. It will output 1080p when playing back a 1080p movie using hardware acceleration. It works with both monitors. The TF700 does not. I'm wondering if maybe it's an ICS thing (or a TF700 version of ICS)
Hmm, did you try turning off the 3D output?

toggling 3d has no effect.
I read that if you leave the tablet on the 3d menu for a few seconds it will toggle the scaling mode on the external display. Again, the monitors just say "no signal".
The hdmi out to an hdmi device ( I tried a TV and a projector ) works great. It just doesn't work over DVI.
I have a theory that this is a HDCP issue. That my hdmi-dvi adapter doesn't support it. I've ordered a new cable that I understand does specifically support HDCP. I report back if it works.

Just so you know, the cable is blissfully ignorant of any HDCP being transferred over it since it's an end-to-end encryption. The two devices being connected together needs to be HDCP compliant, the cable just transfers the data, whether they're encrypted or not.
You're right that it might be a HDCP issue though, but I don't see how a cable can cause that (unless it's a bad cable, that is). HDCP incompatability (in lack of a better word) isn't all uncommon, sadly. HDCP is an abomination and should be killed, preferrably with lots of fire.

A different cable did not solve the problem. As I type this, I have my PS3 connected to my samsung (1920x1200 ) playing in slightly stretched 1080p mode using the same cable that I bought for the TF700.
the PS3 is undoubtedly enforcing HDCP. It plays games and movies at full resolution.
so, I think that's it. the TF700 just does not work over DVI.
I've notice different things that the TF300, TF200, and TF100 are able to do that the TF700 cannot:
Built-in bluetooth support for PS3 controllers Fixed in JB
HDMI out issues: HDMI over DVI does not work. Also, the TF700 is missing the HDMI menu option called "scaling". Both are fixed in JB
unable to lock the navigation bar Fixed in JB
can't change the mouse pointer shape it's in a different place - under asus customized setting
I hope these are addressed soon, since they appear to be software issues. The DVI issue is particularly troublesome as it prevents me from replacing my laptop. I have a theory that the HDMI driver in the TF700 doesn't implement the protocol that the monitor relies on to determine resolution.
I'll keep this list updated.

Isn't scaling unnecessary because of the native 1080p resolution?
Noticed also the ability to lock the navigation bar below is missing. I used it a lot when I had the Prime for games and watching movies and letting my 5 year old play with my tablet without accidentally hitting buttons. Missing it. Hopefully they bring that back with the new JB coming soon.

Your monitor may have a setting in its' on screen menu to disable or control its' own automatic scaling. For example, my monitors have a setting called Aspect Control which I can set to 1:1 to prevent stretching a lower resolution video signal.
I noticed that mouse pointer options in the settings menu is missing, on my prime I would use the blue ring as a pointer instead of the black mouse because it was easier to see

No lock bar.
Wifi Direct connects but doesn't work. (might as well not be there)
No Face Unlock
When Dock connected it doesn't actually show that it's charging with the >> lit up. Also, my dock seems to drain while the TF700 drains. Only way I can tell it's charging is by looking at orange button on top of Infinity.
Would have been nice to have HDMI options when connected, although on a 1080 it doesn't need it (but it does have extra pixels)

I am missing all of these features too.. especially the hdmi options. Can anyone get their tf700 to output actual 1920x1200? I have monitors that are that res and it still only outputs 1920x1080! As of now the software on the TF700 will ONLY output 1920x1200 resolution. Unless you have a monitor/tv that can adjust the input itself and downscale it then no you can't use it. I don't know of any android apps out there that allows this to happen at this time.

That is not true!! I want to see someone with a native 1920x1200 lcd that has it connected to the infinity at native resolution!! It will only output 1080 on vertical resolution. I have tried several 1920x1200 native monitors and even bought a brand new one for $300+ and it will not fill the entire screen no matter what. I want video proof of this claim-- someone, anyone, have a native 1920x1200 monitor that they can hook up to an infinity and use the monitor's menu to display the current resolution as 1920x1200?
There may be no apps that currently support that resolution but the launcher and other infinity screens should run at native res.
Word to the wise neo- test it before answering. You need a monitor that will support the native res... not very many monitors out there run at that resolution natively.

Bluetooth support is there, get the sixaxis app its better than the default support anyways, lets you customize screen touches, etc. and set different profiles for different games.
HDMI over DVI does not work on newer devices because it costs manufacturers LESS to have the security / id profile included in their HDMI devices. Basically, when you plug in a device over HDMI the two devices talk to each other and set up a sort of security protocal. DVI does not have this and a lot of legacy devices do not have this which is why DVI to HDMI works but barely. You also have this problem with MHL adapters for your samsung phones, some MHL adapters support this newer profile, some do not. Those that do not don't work with some TV's. Just do your research and make sure the tech your connecting is compatible. Its like saying "My truck doesnt run on electricity! Why do i have to use gas?"
Scaling was needed when the HDMI signal being transmitted was lower resolution than 1080p. Since were transmitting a full HD signal there is no need to scale. Its already 1:1. No need to choose between upscaling or sending a smaller resolution and having it stretched or having it windowed or whatever. That is like asking why you get no money back when you buy your morning coffee and give the person exact change. I dont understand why so many people complain theres no scaling feature when if you stop to think about it you realize its a useless feature on this tablet.
Lock the navigation bar would be nice. Its about the only "feature" i can tell were missing.
Mouse pointer shape can be changed. I forget where the setting for it is, someone posted it on the forum here somewhere, mines currently the circle instead of the pointer. You can also root into the tablet and change what image it uses. Theres a thread about it somewhere....

So your answer to this thread about features we are missing was to tell us that you are not missing the features... save 1... then discount the need for features that others find useful and needed??? Nice post.
Scaling is needed on any device that may need to output to a different resolution than what the device is at natively.... not like asking for money back when getting exact change... pretty bad analogy. Saying there is no use for this function is silly. There may be no use for you, but many others out there would love that option and I think you are in the minority of users who think it is useless. A more tactful way to approach that would have been to ask if there was a reason that people need it. I can say without a doubt that it is a feature that I am asked about frequently since I support a large number of these tablets. I have had very little luck getting hdmi output to be reliable and compatible with full size monitors. The suggestion on the first page to set the ratio to 1:1 is no help since most monitors do not have that option... it is the monitor's default mode already and starts in that mode.
A couple of things you wrote are wrong.

HDMI over DVI does not work on newer devices because it costs manufacturers LESS to have the security / id profile included in their HDMI devices. Basically, when you plug in a device over HDMI the two devices talk to each other and set up a sort of security protocal. DVI does not have this.

You are referring to HDCP. DVI does support HDCP. Both monitors I tested with are HDCP enabled and work fine with other HDCP devices over the same HDMI-DVI adapters that I used to test the TF700 with. Here is an informative article http://tv.about.com/od/hdtv/a/hdmidvihdcp.htm. You have to have a really old display not to support HDCP.

Scaling was needed when the HDMI signal being transmitted was lower resolution than 1080p. Since were transmitting a full HD signal there is no need to scale. Its already 1:1.

A scaling setting is needed for connecting the TF700 to a 1200p display. I have yet to experience this; but I've read that the TF700 will scale 1080p up to 1200p. It would be better if it did 1:1 on 1200p monitors. see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31420239&postcount=8

This may not be wrong; but it would be a lot more helpful if you provided the location or at least a link to the thread. You might as well be wrong about this too.
The TF101 had 2 speakers, and although there were issues with the balance it was nice to not muffle a speaker when stood it up in my lap in portrait mode.
Not a tablet feature, but the TF101 dock had 2 USB ports.
HI Guys,
I have a T428 from GeekBuying.com, I am having issues setting it up
1) I am unable to get my T428 to work using my nexus 4 as a wireless remote / keyboard have anyone managed to do it? (I tried a few applications but no luck)
2) Some movie playback is stuttering / buffering a lot, do anyone get this issue? (mainly 720p MKV's over 3GB)
3) I am looking for a 5 volt / 2amp UK plug... (My last android device shorted out when the 2pin plug got knocked while in the adapter) Nokia and Samsung phone ones are 5V but only 0.5amp causing the T428 to reboot at random
4) I noticed you cannot just use any micro usb cable to power the device, some seem 0.5ml too small and it it slips out (Stock cable is too short) best one that fits I have found so far was in Poundland but that is also quite short, it add about 6" and I need 18 - 24"
Thanks !

it is hard getting a 2amp power supply i feel you there i couldnt even boot my mk808 for the first 2 days due to not having
a. power capable cable
b. power capable plug adaptor
in the end i had to Frankenstein a power source using a nexus 7 plug and a sony camera usb cable.
the easiest option may be to go to argos or whatever store you have near you and get one of those multi-voltage chargers with mutil-point adaptors, at least then you can power any future device to whatever power it needs.
or just go amazon or a 2amp usb plug http://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Suitable-Smartphones-Portable-consoles/dp/B00270GAMS
thinking of getting one soon because im likely to buy more tv sticks in the future.
im still stumped that the mk808 came with jellybean but was flash compatible out of the box .
Thanks for the reply.... ordered the Amazon plug for £12
Tronsmart T428 does not start
Hey guys,
I ordered and received the Tronsmart T428 through geekbuying.com. I have problems getting it to work however. Can you please suggest a resolution?
Below are the steps I followed:
1. Connected the micro-usb to the wall-adapter, and the adapter to an electric socket. So, I see a red-light on the Tronsmart.
2. Connected the Tronsmart to a HDMI input on my TV (Sharp Aquos 42" 720p HDTV) and selected the appropriate input from the TV settings.
However, nothing shows up on my TV besides a message "An incompatible video signal has been received. Check the output device settings." and the whole screen is blank. I confirmed that the HDMI input on my TV works if my laptop is project on it... so the TV port works.
Then I connected the Tronsmart to my laptop (Windows 7) via the USB, it finds the drivers and shows 5.66 GB free out of 5.76 GB. Also, I see that it only contains 13 empty folders! Is it because the device is not rooted, and that there isn't sufficient permissions to view the files? Or is it that it shipped with nothing installed on the device?
At this point, I don't know if the device is defective or I am missing some step. I have emailed the customer-service and am yet to receive an answer. Has anyone come across this issue? Could anyone please guide me?
Thanks much!
Adi
Hmmm......Sounds like a defective power supply may have corrupted to stcik.....I would send back ASAP.......

It is possible that the resolution is set to 1080p. Try connecting your device to a TV with Full HD display (1080p). Then change the resolution in the settings to 720p. Had the same issue with my MK808B.

Yep, that did it. Thanks a bunch!
May be it should be pre-configured by the manufacturers for 720p out of the box, so it will work for everyone.. and then those with 1080p can change the settings.. just a thought. Thanks regardless.
