I'm getting this popup (see attachment) when I copy files to my TF700 via the USB sync cable. It doesn't happen with every file transfer, just a few. I get this alert and agree to it. I have no issues opening the file using appropriate apps. MX player in this case. What is going on?
I believe this is due to the fact that we're limited to the MTP protocol. I guess it just warns you that the file may not register immediately with the Media Storage scanner, and that you therefore might not see it immediately in, for example, a gallery application. If you can see it with any file explorer and play it correctly I wouldn't worry about it.
Is this possible DRM related?
Sent from my Infinity using Tt HD
I always get this for nearly everything on both my TF700 and my SGS3. (My SGS3 even does it for .avi and .jpg...)
It's just the MTP protocol not knowing what to theoretically open the file with, the apps have no such issue on the tab itself.
Just hit yes (to all). It'll work anyway, just ignore it.

Doubtful. I don't have any DRM-bound material on my tab, if you catch my meaning (i'll put on an eyepatch, fake leg and parrot if it helps.. ), and I still get the error for pretty much every file type.
The annoying thing is that when I set up a file copy, I have to babysit the operation. I do a lot of movies, so if the first one starts to copy with no problem I have to come back and check again. If I get it from the start, I can click 'yes to all' and move on knowing that it won't stop. When moving 10-15 GB, I don't want to be tied up waiting for an alert.
You can't know your limits until you exceed them.

I use Autohotkey in these situation to script a small "program" to automatically click a button for me. It's not that complicated (although as with everything it does have some learning curve.) With it, the button to OK the operation would be clicked a few milliseconds after it appears, and you can go do whatever you want to do in the meantime.
I generally just let it run in the background whilst doing something else. If there's a popup, it'll show up over whatever I'm doing unless I'm ingame.

I recall when I first got my G1, all I had to do to connect it to the computer was plug it in. Since RC29, I've had to click "mount" every time, which I know was an intentional change Google made. Why did they make this change, and is there any way to create an auto-mounting app?
Don't quote me on this, but logically this makes sense to me:
If you were to leave the phone charging via USB (with automount) and you had a virus/spyware on the computer... it would/could easily transfer over to the SD card and possibly mess up the phone's firmware.

I can see the thought process in that... however, and I'm not certain, but I believe in order for that to happen, they would have to write a virus specificaly for an android phone. What I mean by that is a windows virus you would get from say a porno website for example would not to anything to the phone. If that's the case then that's a pretty farfetched theory. Anyone out there who can prove us wrong? Or have there own theroies lol?
Either way, it'd be nice to have the option to auto-mount. If you're willing to take the risk, then you should be able to check a box, and if not, you can leave that box unchecked.
I think it's because it won't let you access the card from the phone while it's mounted.
I'd have to agree with mastaworm, as the card can't be used by the phone when it's mounted you might just be charging via usb with some apps accessing the sd card and suddenly it's unmounted from the phone. I can see that it'd be nice to have an option to automount, though.

I definitely see how this could be a problem for some; I personally only use my USB when transferring files and such, not for charging. So, the option would be very nice, since people have different preferences.
What's so frustrating is that I recall auto-mount being present way back in October. I don't believe there was an option to turn it on or off, but if it is possible to have on, why not give the user that option?
i do believe RC28 or 29, can't remember which, had this enabled. along with the really big battery charging icon. i well miss those
i know the big battery images are still in the drawable folder so i'm guessing all it would take would be a change in an XML somewhere, probably the same for auto-mount too.

Totally forgot about that big battery icon.
I liked that.
i haven't bothered to test this yet, and have been watching this thread since you created it and was really hoping akapoor would through in what i found the other day. there is an option if you use anycut to auto-mount. download and install anycut and set up a new shortcut to sd card, it's under activities in the anycut menu. after doing that go back to the desktop and click on said shortcut and enable usb mass storage. like i said i haven't tested it yet, and i use linux so i don't know what it will do in windows but give it a shot. the worst that can happen is it doesn't work. here's the link to the instructions i found

Nope, doesn't seem to be working on my Windows XP. Has anyone had success with this method?
Has anyone figured out the problem with changing notifications? My email notification (gmail) switches to a random mp3 file at least once a day, and I don't connect the phone to the computer in storage mode, so unavailability of the assigned sound cannot be blamed here. It's not a big deal, but rather an annoyance.
Thanks!

As noted in the stickied FAQ at the top, this is a known issue.
Connecting the phone to the computer at all causes the phone to go into a "pre-mount prepping stage" in which the OS will start separating itself from the SD card partition. I don't know if that's technically what happens, but that's what's been my observation.
Btw, this issue and some workarounds(only surefire one requires root in my experience) have been discussed in greater detail here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882803 . Insert generic please use the search funuction comment here. /endmodimpersonation.
This is certainly the same issue as we're discussing in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882803
Please go to this http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13413 link and STAR the issue. We're trying to get Google's attention to fix this ASAP.
Meanwhile, a work around, if you're rooted, appears to be to put the desired sound into the /system/media/audio/(ringtones, notifications, proper sub-folder) folder.
Hi everyone
My girlfriend just got the G2x yesterday. We plugged it into her macbook and created a folder on the drive that showed up on the finder called 'Music.' Tried to copy some music over from her laptop and the problems started. First, the phone wouldn't eject from the finder, saying it was in use. Second, after trying to figure out how the phone was in use but finding nothing running, we unplugged the USB without ejecting (probably not the best idea). The phone froze. Third, after a hard restart and a few reboots, the media scanner freezes on 'scanning for errors' when starting up.
Now it won't take pictures, saying 'mount your Phone memory', and when we go to the options for mounting the various drives under settings>SD & Phone storage, all the options to mount drives are grayed out. Also, there is no information listed for any of the storage. We tried doing the factory reset but the same problems occur (media scanner freezes and drives won't mount). When I plug it into my desktop, the drive shows up as completely empty. No volumes, no partitions, nothing. Using the sdk shell to look around, I can find no sign of either the folder we created or the files that we copied.
Any ideas? My android experience is minimal, though I am comfortable using the sdk stuff to take a look-see. This is probably most easily solved by simply returning it for a new one, but I enjoy figuring this stuff out if at all possible. It also helps avoid making the same mistake in the future.
Thanks for any help or advice. Sorry for the length.
sounds like you got one of the 'bad' ones, the first shipment were supposedly littered with bugs similar to your issue, returned mine and has been flawless except for the screen bleed stuff. Id just return it if i were you.

I really like the phone but this is pretty frustrating. On top of that, the LGForums are just littered with other issues the G2x has. They are also very quiet on when the bug fixes are coming.

I was advised of a bad first batch. My 2nd one was made Apr 28th. No issues aside from worse screen bleed than my 1st one.
But that's never bothered me like some others. I never see it with real world use.

Have you ever needed to use ADB at a work PC or a location you could not "install" applications?
Unzip the attached file and click the RunMe.bat
I have tested this pulling logs, pushing/pulling files, flashing recovery, roms, and anything else I could think of.
I tested it on the M8 stock rom 5.0.2 but this is a generic file so it should be fine on most if not all android devices.
The idea came when I was at work and looking for a solution for a problem I had. I could not install anything on my work PC, so this came in handy, the only problem is that it was outdated, or seemed outdated for my needs.
find the zip file here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347791558
This topic has been covered but is very outdated. I only found information from 2011 and 2013. The included information has since been updated by Google. I found it and included it, re-zipped it and now it is here for you to enjoy.
Thanks

I know this is totally off topic, I'll report myself for it later....
So, I installed the zip file onto my work PC, a DELL Inspiron laptop running Windows 7 professional (I really cannot get too much more info about it now) sorry. My nooby butt just went and downloaded the file not checking the MD5 :crying: Totally a dumb thing a NOOBY would do. It started to get late & I had to get ready to go to work. I know I had the command prompt screen (Black box) running and I then left the computer. 8 hr's later I come home from work and the computer is locked as normal, I to proceed entering Ctrl+Alt+Delete combination as usual & NOTHING (panic setting in)!! I was concerned since it was frozen from something I done, also I didn't want to loose all the work I gathered that night prior (is the very least of my worries now)... I took out the battery to reset the computer, again like a dummy, I started Windows normally ignoring the other "safe mode, etc" options. I click on windows Chrome, NOTHING! Not even an option to open the program/app. Okay, I'm really panicking now WTH did I do??? I knew I did something wrong, so I reset the computer by battery again, put it in "Safe Mode" which did absolutely nothing as I couldn't "open desktop gadgets in safe mode". Now, I restarted the computer from the start menu... Started up completely fine, I have access to everything EXCEPT Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc. anything that is browser related has the administrator shield on the icon. However, I still cannot even click on the icon to run as an administrator even if I had the password!?!?
Is there any possible hope to uninstall that file and just maybe it'll go back to normal??? I cannot re-install Chrome or Internet Explorer due to the darn administrator rights!!!
I've searched to the ends of the earth since last night trying to find a solution, this is my last ditch effort resort for any possible suggestions to point me in the right direction. Luckily my friend was kind enough to lend me his laptop and my phone is in proper working order:angel: If I tell my IT guy what happened, I'll be in huge trouble, going on the 2nd laptop destroyed, 1st time really wasn't my fault, just saying so u don't think I'm continuously reckless.
Any help as always is greatly appreciated! Hoping someone has had this happen maybe:fingers-crossed: and just a slight point in the right direction (link, website, specific thread on forum) would b awesome?? Again, apologies on the "off-topic" content, I don't know what else to do & I feel as though XDA is THE ABSOLUTE BEST forum site for any Android help, apps, devs research, roms, etc. Thx in Advance!!

I can tell you that it's not related to the files because I use them on my work PC all the time. I am working 10 hours days, 6 days a week. So the only time I can do anything out of the ordinary on my phone, it has to be at work.
That being said, have you tried system restore? I'm not sure if that requires admin rights, it might. On another note, tell the IT guy your internet explorer just stopped working, they love that. Because seriously, it's unrelated. The most he will do is uninstall and reinstall IE/Chrome. If that doesn't fix it, a system restore should. If that still does not, there is something off with the settings for internet access (I've seen that before). But if you are saying there is a shield/lock over an icon, that's new to me.
Also, I can install chrome at my work. It usually does not require admin rights, that and Firefox. There are also many portable browsers you can download from another PC and copy the zip file to the laptop, and run the app. Just search portable browser. At least this will help determine if the browsers installed got locked or if there is a network setting being blocked.
Let me know how it goes. This IS a bit off topic, but let's figure out what's wrong publicly so the mods can see there is nothing wrong with the zip I posted and then we can have our posts removed.

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it.
I'm glad to hear that it's not the file bc I cannot uninstall that regardless. We do have crazy blocks on all the computers at my work. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the sensitive information we have (a drug tx center so everyone's personal info is in our database). We can't even update the time on our computers, I have no clue why. I asked him once, he said something about giving that permission would open up another way to bypass security (I can't remember exactly).
This is my laptop, I never even bother bringing into work because I work so much from home. For example my login at the office has updated twice when at home it's still my old login password. The computer is physically in bad shape (it's been used & abused for sure) I'd prefer not to the bring it in for him to see so I plan on waiting to Friday night (IF ALL ELSE FAILS) and txtg him saying I absolutely need to work & see if he will do troubleshoot remote access! I hope that doesn't sound too horrible :-/
As I was typing this I just received an email to restart all workstations due to updates/ changes to the server done this weekend... Hmmmm it could totally be bc of this!!!!! Fingers crossed. I may just have to bring it in let it connect to the local server reset it, and bam good to go If not due to this I can almost guarantee it's the internet settings that I don't have access to!! But the portable browser should work...
I will still try all of your suggestions once I get home this afternoon and report back to you ASAP!!
Luckily I have my friends laptop to borrow & Dell had some good deals on laptops last night so I ordered a really nice one since I really need a personal computer again. Which I will also get an expense check for (bonus)!! But, won't arrive until 3/16. Until then I do have access to extra pc's here I could always swap it out, but I don't want to be scrutinized or punished for being sneaky, it's really not my character...
Again, I appreciate your input. Also, totally agreed on the "off-topic resolution" first and then delete our posts...
Thanks Again!
Yeah, I cannot get through the security on it.

I don't know what has happened to my old Lenovo Vibe X on Android 6.01 and how to resolve the issue without wiping data (no guarantee it would help - I'm now thinking...).
The phone is temporarily at my relative's disposal: i've switched to her Google account to let her use my old phone. She complained the call ring was very weak. I decided to change the ringtone, but I found out that I cannot do it anymore, the Media/Audio/Ringtones folder with standard OGG files is not visible (I cannot select ringtones from there anymore). "Other ringtones" option directs me to some installed Audio player, which does not allow to select any MP3 files in ANY folder (they cannot be played, because the player reports they are not added to Media storage). When I try to use "Scan media" option - it is just stuck. I've tried to use another programs like SD scanner, they either report Media database read error or finally report success status, however the audio files are still not playable.
I've tried to: clear caches (Android and Dalvik), disable / enable Media system app and delete its data.
I've also noticed that NOW my USB Audio player reports that HiRes DAC is not found (!) and does not want to play files in HiRes mode (through the chip instead of generic driver) - actually, my phone does have ES9018 DAC...
I am not sure this problem is related to Media storage, however all this together is very weird.
Any thoughts what could happen and what should I do?
How long was she using it and how good are her Android skills? May have caught a rootkit or virus. Anything below Android 9 is vulnerable to the Xhelper type rootkits that can worm their way out of the user partition. Real nasty critters...
If it just went nuts, I highly suspect malware especially in the hands of a novice user.

As @blackhawk wrote, the user may have infected the phone.
The only solution is to flash the phone manufacturer's stock ROM.
I will try to do this as soon as I get a chance, nowadays there is no other smartphone to use for my relative, so have to wait a couple of days.
BTW - regarding "HiRes DAC is not found" message... is there a chance that guys who replaced the battery in this smartphone soldered out ES9018 chip??

Likely a software, firmware or settings issue. Malware could also be the root cause for losing the high resolution DAC.
It's possible the tech damaged this circuit but probably not likely. Obviously if it was working before they got their paws on it then they are likely to blame.
