Samsung droid charge,HTC thunderbolt , and the Motorola droid x2
and im wondering which phone would be the best to get? i dont think 4g matters as there is no 4g here and i mostly use my phone for emulators, email,IM,texting, and alot of web, what would be the best phone to get? i dont take pics and well i never use video chat before for a front facing cam on my epic

I'm on Sprint but I work at a Verizon retail store. I've used all the phones. The Droid X2 is not much of any upgrade from the Droid X. It's basically a Droid X without a camera button, and with a dual core CPU. Not really worth it, especially since it has an encrypted bootloader. I really like the Thunderbolt (I have an Evo), but if you're going to play a lot of games, get the Droid Charge. It has the same (or slightly better) CPU that's in the Epic, and the Thunderbolt doesn't quite compare in terms of speed. There's also the LG Revolution, which is Bing'd out, but is still a great phone. Personally, if you're going to be gaming, I say go for the Droid Charge.
i saw that the droid x2 has a duel core and well my epic has the same cpu as the charge is there a BIG speed difference in these phones? even after root and everything clean from crapware?
i saw the charge is 299$ where the droid x2 is 199$ is it rly worth the 100$ to get a single core cpu? i know the screen is bad ass on the charge but i heard the x2 is pretty darn good
Don't forget that there is more to the phone than fancy hardware. Droid X2 might be nice, but it still runs moto blur, a UI that often is rated as one of the worst ones of Android. I personally remember playing around with the original Droid X at the VZW store months back and the model on display was lagging from menu to menu.
Software > Hardware, at least in most cases.

I won't lie, the latest version of Motoblur on the Droid X / Droid X2 is not bad at all (though a little laggy on the home screen). But the thing has an encrypted bootloader, which means you can't flash custom kernels, which means your ROM selection will be very limited. Also, the Gingerbread update also introduced something retarded: If you root and try to tether without a tethering plan, you will be redirected to a Verizon page to buy the plan every time you try to load a website.
I haven't used the Droid Charge enough to see differences from the Epic other than they use an orange/brown theme instead of blue on the Epic. Also, the Charge has 4G, so you'll be future-proof. On the other hand, the Droid X2 is dual-core so you'll be future-proofed in terms of performance (Android 2.3 and under don't make use of both cores). I'm really not sure how well it compares, or rather WILL compare against the GPU of the Charge, which is hard to beat.
In terms of price, I think the Droid X2 is priced pretty fairly. The Charge on the other hand is a $100 more and, besides HDMI output and 4G LTE, doesn't really add much to your Epic. In the end it's really up to you. You always have 30 days to change the phone. Drop into a Verizon store and try them out. But keep in mind that Quadrant Standard isn't optimized for dual cores and Neocore is optimized for Qualcomm (ie Snapdragon) chipsets.
i did forget to add a phone.... the sony xperia play i do play a ALOT of ps1 emualtor on my epic.... how is the xperia play? i mean i forgot it was even out lol im use to the 4inch screen but if its bad ass for games and then that maybe be the phone to get

Would someone mind explaining to a n00b what the above means? I too am considering the Thunderbolt (or maybe the Evo 3D).

he is talkin about benchmarkn its nothing really just a score on how fast is the phone and stuff but some programs are more into other CPUS then others so give more points to the slower cpu

I've played with the Xperia play. The good thing about it is that it's mainly stock Android (no skin, but it does have extra Sony Widgets and some crapware). It comes with Crash Bandicoot (the PS1 version) and some Bruce Lee game, among other games. It played pretty smooth, but it only has a 1GHz Snapdragon, so nothing too impressive. If you want a video with a good benchmark, watch this one. It even compares it to other phones (ps the Optimus 2X has a Tegra 2):

If you can hold off, the Galaxy S II, which is the most powerful Android phone out right now, will be coming to Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T anywhere from July to August. It's all unofficial as of now, but they're definitely coming because they've been named (AT&T Attain, Sprint Within, Verizon Function).

Quadrant Standard and Neocore are benchmarking apps used to show the CPU and GPU capablities of a phone. The issue is that neither will give you an accurate result of the raw power of a phone.
Avoid Moto ATM
I used to be a staunch supporter of Motorola phones, but in the last couple years, especially with Android OS, they've been very lackluster to me. I support the phones in our office, and we've got several versions of Motos here that give us all sorts of issues. Its amazing what features that Moto manages to turn off natively that all other phones seem to have, plus they go out of their way to make it difficult to update to custom ROMs, etc.
I would definitely go with the TBolt, I've had mine for a couple months now and came from a N1 i was using with iWireless and love the TBolt, Rooted and running Gingerbread, everything works great

I have a Tbolt & I love it. Mainly because (1) it has 4G and (2) the *very* active dev community here. You may not be concerned with 4G now, but it may come to your area before you are allowed to upgrade phones, so that may be worth considering. Also, some of the TB kernels allow overclocking up to 1.92ghz. The DX2 will proly still give better emulator performance, but I'd bet an overclocked Tbolt would emulate better than a stock Droid Charge (an o/c'd Charge would be a different story. Idk if you can even o/c a Charge, I don't follow the Charge threads). The last time I checked the Charge rom dev section, it was pretty sparse. That will change as more devs get their hands on it, but for the moment you can't get flash happy with a Charge. The Charge's amoled screen is freaking gorgeous. There is nothing else like a Samsung amoled. Colors are really vivid & bright and black is *black*, not dark grey like on a lcd. The Charge's battery life is better than the Tbolt too. I don't know much about the DX2 but I do know that if you like playing with custom roms & kernels, the DX2's bootloader will be very frustrating. I have never messed with Moto Blur but the majority of comments I've read about it are not positive. Ultimately it's a matter of tradeoffs & what is most important to you. If you want the best emulator performance & don't mind giving up custom roms, go for DX2. If you want an awesome screen & can wait a few weeks for rom development to pan out, get the Charge. If you've gotta have custom roms/kernels *right now* & don't mind lackluster battery life, check out the Tbolt.

Thunderbolt now or wait for Galaxy S II or Evo 3D?
Will the Bolt be outdated soon with dual processors out now? I'm in no real hurry and can wait a few months so I'm thinking of waiting for Galaxy S II since I've read it is going to be open source now.
In Los Angeles will it matter whether I'm on Sprint or Verizon as far as 4G performance goes? The speed tests I've found are outdated and one listed Verizon as the very worst performing network but they tested in Columbus, OH and people posted that it wasn't an accurate test because of that.
I would go with the thunderbolt, and i just did a few days ago actually. It has the most dev support on here and I hate moto with a passion so the choice was easy for me.

[Q] Motorola RAZR or Galaxy Nexus?

As the title suggests, which would you get if they were similarly priced? I can't really decide cos I want some features from each...
RAZR - Aluminium body and Kevlar back, really sturdy construction
Nexus - Curved HD screen, better GPU (by how much I don't really know)
I'm a fairly heavy user, currently on the Desire Z. Locally, the GN is not even released yet but will be in a few weeks, while the RAZR is already available.
I believe the RAZR is already rooted, which means development should be picking up, and the GN development is already gaining momentum.
The only thing I worry is that the RAZR might not be that popular with devs and the custom ROMs would be lacklustre. I don't have that worry with the GN cos well it's a Nexus.
Of course that galaxy nexus.
It has ics/gorilla glass/4.65" screen and a lot more..
And the RAZR will get it from custom ROMs as well, and internally they're almost identical. RAZR is also Gorilla Glass >.< That's why I find it really tough to decide.
G'day,
Im in the exact same situation. My DHD stopped working recently and i need a new phone. I was originally going to create the thread u just made XD.
Personally im going with the razr for several reasons.
The razr has a much better design, also, not that it really makes a difference but the razr has a larger memory capacity at 40/48gbs including a 32gb micro sd.
Also the razr has a much better battery life, from what i have heard. However i do see your point with the devs, but do u really need a custom rom for this? I dont see the point personally (at the moment). Motorolla have included some pretty handy apps like MotoCast + the smart actions ect and as i said this phone already does have root. You proabably know this but, ICS is coming to the RAZR and soon. I really dont mind waiting, simply because this phone is quite a bit faster and looks much better TBH. Also the speaker of the Razr is much better if u care
The Nexus only has a better screen over the Razr.
But the choice is yours You probably already know all this but i need to get my posts up
Best of luck!

Yeah maybe but the Droid X bootloader is still locked. And look how long that phones been out. But they still get some great rims on the X. Miui and Cm7. I like the nexus for development purposes but the I like the razr for overall looks and feel of the phone. Lol. And I'm not really to much worried about the locked bootloader. If they get miui running on the razr I am down. :-D

The problem with a locked bootloader is not the ability to use different ROM's..it is the ability to change your kernel. With a locked bootloader you can ONLY use the stock kernel. So say you get the RAZR...yes, it will be updated to ICS. Say android 5.0 (jellybean) comes out in september. If that happened, your razr MIGHT get the update by february. So while everone else is playing with CM10...you are still stuck with your ICS. Also, you will never be able to overclock or underclock your cpu, as the stock kernel does not allow it. You can't use fastboot...there is just too much that a locked bootloader doesn't allow for it to be a real option if you want to root your phone.

Well, I would consider it more a "gettin' ready for the glory hole" plan, so as to be of some contributor-level support on what everyone is waiting so anxiously for (ICS/JB for the ATRIX 2); and beyond that, this has become an enormous interest for me, as I am sure is the same for many others, and just want to get at the heart of it with full fervor... but, nonetheless, I know where our limitations are, what our capabilities are possible of, and know that we (the A2 community) can seriously tear this phone a new one when all put our heads together! In the meantime, I shall be immersing myself in getting "me smarts on" as some kid in college said to me, who probably now works for the city's sanitation department!
That article is just speculation. With the atrix hd coming out i highly doubt we will get jb officially. Once we have official ics the devs will be able to work up something for us.

The OG ATRIX came with froyo, got the GB update and is scheduled to get ICS. I wouldn't say that this phone WON'T get JB but by the time it does I will be long gone and into another phone.
The ONLY way I buy another MOTO phone is if they make the next Nexus.
Moto makes some excellent phones and I would recommend them to anyone who simply wants a phone and doesn't like modding things. But since we are all on this great site, that rules us out and unfortunately Moto thinks we are the minority and they do not care about us.

I agree. My wife started out with a backflip and now she has the original atrix and they are stable for her because she don't care about modding. Myself on the other hand bought the a2 because of motorolas products being stable and I thought we would have the bootloader unlocked by now. Change A2 for SG2

Hi, how are you?
I don't want get anybody mad (And i don't expect that), neither hate me nor whatever.
I'm a little tired and bored with Motorola. When i bought the A2, i didn't imagine what i was going to find out. Moreover, the little info that i already knew about android before i buyed the phone, seems very cool to me. I've seen a lot of custom roms. But, in A2 everything is very low. And well, not mentioning the update to 4.1 or 4.2.
Therefore i want to know if somebody can change my A2 for a SG2 (Not in this forum).
I just ask if it is fare for both of us. Or, if i have to put money, or the other person have to pay me.
Because, the screen, procesor, ram, camara, size is completelly the same with the SG2.
I want a S2 because of the design of the phone, and because of the roms.
What you say?
PS: The A2 is A GREAT phone. It never lagged. It never frizzed. Met my expectations. And, when the phone dies, it was my fault. The only disadvantage that i found is the duration of the battery in a custom rom. I hope it doesn't happen in the S2 or other phone.

A2 screen is better than bluiesh tint of GS2
A2 processor lags behind 1.8GHz oc'd compared to (A2)1.4GHz oc'd .... but that hardly matters
A2 RAM is dual channel (just for technical difference) but same as GS2 = 1GB
A2 camera lags in low light than GS2
A2 size is because of build quality & battery.... both better than GS2
because GS2 has huge popularity it has more developers ...... its upto you now

First of all, there're no nexus in Argentina. Neither galaxy nexus, nor LG nexus.
I don't know why they doesn't bring it here.
And, i don't want a phone like that. It's too much for me.
I just want a phone with the same specifications. Neither more nor less.

I had an S2 before getting scammed into this POS.
S2 is a great phone, by far one of the best I've ever used.
There is no blue tint to the S2 screens either. SuperAmoled Plus screen looks just as good as the screen on the A2.
S2 is alot faster in every way.....once you customize it. stock, it aint that great, but still less choppy than A2.
Most of this comes down to the way the A2 is locked down, vs the S2 being mostly open. If A2 was open, I bet it'd give the S2 a run.
But if your gonna try and find someone to trade you. Dont hold your breath.
Is there a possibility to unlock the bootloader of the A2 in the near future?

ROMs for Thunderbolt

It seems to me like development for the Thunderbolt has almost completely died out. I am strongly considering moving on to something else with an ARM processor and a good battery. If we were given a stable Jelly Bean ROM, then I would have stuck with it longer. The only thing even close is a meshed together 4.0.1 that is still broken in some ways. Is there anything better in your opinion than Jelly Bean with more features and options? What else would you like to say? Thanks!
Due to the fact that I am a Verizon customer w/a tenuous grip on unlimited data and bored w/the non-ICS/Jelly Bean-havin' Bolt, just bought a Samsung Nexus on eBay. Move on, dude, move on.
I have been eyeing the MOTOROLA DROID RAZER MAXX HD. The extra battery life would be wonderful. I will never buy another damn thing from HTC. I don't want to be put on the back burner for Jelly Bean 4.2 or Key Lime Pie. Do you think it will be Déjà vu all over again? Extra long delays or never showing up at all. I think I might be better off choosing a MOTOROLA device now that Google owns them.

Remember locked boot loader unless you get the developer one.
I still love my droidx.. oh they have a workaround for the boot loader but you loose a core (duel core goes to single core)

Doesn't matter which manufacturer, any device will be extremely lucky to upgrade more than once, if at all. They want you to keep buying the newest thing.

But the phone manufacturer that updates the most-often, customers will recognize that. Well some customers, anyway.
Not to hijack but what about the Droid X boot loader? You mean X2 since you said the workaround takes a core? And I guess it doesn't apply to the OG Droid X?

Dude...JB was just released in July...chillax. In the meantime, try checking out twistedumbrella's ICS roms. He's on 4.0.4 now.

I second this. He's continually improving it, although a few people have had bootloops on more recent versions.

Santod's UnSensed ICS over on Infected Rom Forums is pretty awesome too. Feels a lot like Twisted's build in many ways, except that there are Sense apps here and there for functionality and the video camera works.
