or should i go for a quad core tablet and can i use a 64 gig sd? or no thanks
please move to Q&a forum i thought i was in there
I own a 7 in tab 2 gt-p3110
According to samsungs website it supports up to 32 gb
Stock jellybean worked quite well but the battery life seemed poor.
I installed cm 10.1 and feel it improved
It runs fairly quick no gripes in speed but I have not gamed on it.
I own a kindle fire hd and the screen and battery life on it is superior
But it has a locked boot loader and no roms to flash and may never...
Kfhd has hdmi out standard micro usb better screen better batt life, no gps, no usb otg only one camera front facing, no sd card slot
Tab2 has no hdmi out, proprietary usb connection, less batt life, gps, usb otg, worse screen, two cameras, sd card slot.
All in all I think the kindle is the win, but tab2 device is more open with more features.

You can use 64gig card in Tab 2. I just had to format it fat32 and it is recognized with ~60gig available.
If you've got money to burn get the new quad, if not these are solid tablets for the price point.
well, i wont game much with it except games like pool etc which im sure are not high performance games...lol, i just want to use it to surf web and watch movies and play music on

Then the Samsung Galaxys Tab 2 should be perfect for you.
Thats all i use mine for is watching films & surfing the web and is perfect for that.
I will say this 16 gigs that the kfhd and nexus 7 come with is NOT enough for me... sd card is nice

Tab2.7 with Sugsonic HD
I run Sugsonic HD with my tab 2.7. It's really fast and the graphics and sound is really good too.
I use a 32gb class 10 card. I've read articles on this site where guys have installed 64gb cards and it's worked. But, I've also read where it works but can become unreliable above 32gb and sometimes users have lost data.

In searching the forums I know this has come up for other devices and am wondering about the Fuze. What Micro SD speed class can the Fuze use. Don't want to spend extra on a class 4 if it can only take advantage of the class 2 speeds.
Thanks, my Fuze gets delivered late this week, cant wait

I'm running an 8GB class 4, Although I've seen specs that say it supports up to 32GB storage and class6 speeds
I'm rocking a Mobile Ultra 8GB... class 6.
While the fuze (and any phone really) can only take advantage of class 2 speed, your computer can use everything higher. Also, I believe when you're using the direct storage card access mode while plugged into the computer, you can take advantage of the higher speeds as well.

I Noticed a speed tweak in the Blackstone forum for making the SD read time 3X as fast. Is there any way to "port" this setting to the Fuze? I'm beginning to load up on movies and want the best format possible for TV-Out.

I just installed that tweak and, at the very least, everything seems to be able to access the storage card normally. I don't have time to try it out myself right now, but I'll see if I can slap some videos on there for testing later.
I wouldn't let thos Class numbers fool you.. I bought an early 8GB Adata Class4 card and just recently a new 8GB Class6 for a neighbor. Just out of curiosity I plugged each into a mini USB reader and ran hdtach on my PC. My old Class4 card read at 19MB/s and the newer Class6 at only 14MB/s. Explain that...
I have two 8 gb cards, one is class 4 and one is class 6. The difference when connected to a computer is around 10%, but on my Pro I didn't notice any.
However class 4 is almost 2x faster than class 2, and I believe that will have an impact on phone performance.
I could benchmark mine if someone recommends a tool.
I'm running a Sandisk 16 GB Class 2 in my AT&T Fuze, and it runs great!

Depends on the brands and models you got as to what your read speed will be, but the class rating actually has nothing to do with read speed, only write. Also, the class numbers are a guaranteed minimum write speed, so a card labeled class 2 could write faster than class 6 in theory. Here are some read-write benchmarks to show you just how they can vary:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2094715,00.asp
I haven't found any info on the max theoretical read/write speeds of the flash controller in the Fuze/TouchPro to know what they're supposed to be capable of.
As for the speed tweak from the Blackstone forum...I can't see any difference in playback speed using one Xvid and one Divx video in TCPMP's benchmark. Those are the only two formats I have atm, and they're both technically just MP4 video with MP3 audio.
pocket mechanics can benchmark the sd card in the pda
as benchmarking can't be don on the pc as the speeds will be way different
I think I actually have a copy of pocket mechanic. I was thinking about using SPB Benchmark, but I'll give PM a shot first.

Article on the cab file and post in the blackstone forum. This article has benchmarks in a graph showing the increase. Anyone benechmarked this tweak on a touchpro yet to see if it works like the HD does?
I have to say that I'm pretty surprised by these results. Both tests were done under identical circumstances and both probably suffer a little due to the fact that I had SOTI Pocket Controller running while I ran the tests. I used the latest version of Pocket Mechanic and an Adata class 4 8gb microsdhc. On the left is the "before."

Yes. Unfortunately, throwing all that extra data at a video processing system that was already choking to death hasn't helped video playback, which is one of the main reasons the patch was developed for the HD. I think I may try to flash the HD derived rom to my Fuze and then retest to see what happens.
If we had the right software to take advantage the hardware we could play DVD,s off this thing
I tryed a full 700meg divx dvd rip that stuttered on play a bit before the cab install, and it plays pretty decent now. It had to be the read time of the phone and not the card that was doing it. Now if coreplayer ever fixs the QVT (blue flicker) on there player it would be a neat toy to plug in with the tv out cable.

Well just ordered this
Lexar Professional 400x 128 GB SDXC
from amazon for less than $140, seems like a good deal, hope it holds up to 1080p movies
I have the same SD card and playing 1080 mkvs on it with Dice and BS Player are no problem at all, love the massive storage space. Just one caveat though, I tried copying the entire card over to a windows 7 machine and the Infinity rebooted, so there's still and issue with large file transfers that I hope JB will take care of. In any case welcome to the max storage club

Have you used a card in the dock before? The ribbon cable wasn't completely connected in mine.
All new tablet and dock, I had to insert in a few times, but nothing.
So I power down, and let it fully charge.
Powered on with dock, tried it again.
Wham....WORKS!!!!!

Love the opening to Baccano, it's so god damn catchy lol. Right now I'm getting through the massive first season of Sket Dance, AKB0048, and Moyashimon. As you can tell I have a pretty eclectic taste lol. I sprung for the crunchyroll premium account too and it's nice, but the app sadly doesn't output 1080p streams yet although they keep saying it's in the works. Thankfully I can still access the Hi-def streams through flash

Was copying from 32GB samsung micro to the Lexar 128GB on the Transformer Infinity (stock) and it rebooted after transferring about 4GB of 15GB of data. Might have something to do with the fact that the Lexar comes formatted exFat and not NTFS. Could be a tablet I/O issue.
I dont have my 2TB portable HHD to test the transferring abilities of the Lexar using a Windows 7 laptop system, but It will be the next thing I test the Lexar with.
(Formatted the Lexar NTFS)
(Will copy a 8-15GB 1080p movie, and see if the Infinity can handle it)
I thought ExFat let you work past the 4GB Total memory card size limitation, but not the >4GB "single file" size limitation, if im right you will only be able to copy a bigger than 4GB file onto an NTFS format disk.
No, exFAT allows file sizes MUCH larger than 4 GB. Theoretically 16 EiB, in practice "only" about 128 PiB since the current implementation only uses a 32 bit FAT which limits the maximum volume size to ~128 PiB.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT#cite_note-NB_Size_File-0
People have had issues with copying large files to the internal storage as well, so it's most likely a (file system) driver issue. Could be memory leakage or just hardcoded file size limits (wouldn't surprise me...) causing a buffer overflow. An unhandled fault at driver level = reboot/lock up (usually).
I currently have 1 Samsung 32 MicroSD in the tablet and another via an SD-adapter in the dock, both in exFAT so I could use +4gig files.
My Infinity reboots when transferring to either card via Win7 (big files). However, transferring to the internal storage gives no problems (albeit slow). Moving files from internal to either of the cards via Win7 makes it reboot too. So I filled both cards directly instead of leaving them in the Infinity.
I have used exFAT as it was stated here somewhere NTFS could give problems.. Well, exFAT isn't working great, either.. I'm going to try and see what happens in NTFS but I guess it will be the same story..
Anyway, I think it's a firmware/software issue, hopefully Asus fixes it (or JB)

I believe I have my 32GB micro, and 128GB SD cards formatted as NTFS and haven't had this problem since then. Of coarse I flashed a custom ROM to the infinity, which has helped maximize its potential.
It boggles my mind that I paid $650 for a tablet+dock that has so many quirks, and issues. Like light bleed from the side, minimal as it may be.
Although, I was playing dead trigger, and shadowgun last night using a micro HDMI cable hooked up to my 1080p HP monitor, and a USB 360 controller, and I was AMAZED at the quality and frame rate of the tablet...
I'm going to do some tests, with my new laptop and see if I get that random reboot during file transfer (Using a 24GB 1080p movie)
I have ordered also the SD Card... SO mutch cheaper then in Netherlands
Amazon 154 euro. Local store prices between 300 a 350euro.
I have format a other SD card with HFS+ filesystem. Installed Paragon NTF/HFS+ from Google Play.
Mount and go with the flow..
You can copy files lager then 4GB on a HFS+ formatted sd card

HFS+ is the default file system used in OS X, you'd need drivers to get it to work under Windows. Stick with NTFS (or exFAT) if you're primarily a Windows user

Why is it such a problem moving large files, such as roms, to the sd card from a pc thru usb. It will stop and say something about camera has stopped. I had to put my sd card in the wifes HTC tb to put the rom on the card and put it back in the SG3 to install a rom. Am I missing something?
Thanks, Mike
I have this issue too and hate it big time.
I have to move 200-300mb at a time now.
Moving more is like never gonna happen. Wish they'd fix this. Hate to have to buy a micro sd OTG USB adapter just to move files around.
Try different cables. I am constantly moving large files around with no issues. In fact it's faster than moving files from my hard drives on my cpu. 1gig from sd to cpu takes less than 30 seconds. Faster from external sd/running sd speed boost.
Sent from my VZW GS3 running Synergy/LeanKernel/Dark Horse Rises
Tried several, tried the one that came with the SG3, tried the one that came with the HTC TB, Tried a motorola. All with same result. Moving files off sd is no issue, just moving files onto sd from pc is problematic. Few songs at a time is no issue, but a ROM is not going to happen. Gets all the way done then states camera has stopped and will not go. I keep thinking I must have an option ticked incorrectly somewhere in the phone, but if it is, I can't find it.
Mike
Your in mtp mode, not camera mode correct? Loading onto sd is good for me, 800mb rom's load on I'm less than a min. Weird.
Sent from my VZW GS3 running Synergy/LeanKernel/Dark Horse Rises
Actuall no I was in (PTP) camera mode. I just saw move any files. That must be the issue. I saw the MPT and thought it was just for syncing audio and such. Will try when I get off work. Thats probably the problem I was looking for, Thanks.
Mike
I have the exact same problem (one I've never had with any other phone)
I was trying to copy blue-ray rips to my 64 gig sandisk card while the card was in the phone. I am using a brand new straight from the package cable that came with my second G3 (I have 2 phones). It starts to copy just fine, but quits 1/2 way thru & stops responding. every single time.
This is a brand new I7 PC that I just built a few weeks ago running Windows Seven Pro with 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM.
If I use a universal reader (even thru a USB HUB) the files copy just fine either from any of the three 2 terrabyte secondary hard drives or from the solid state boot drive to the card.

More than likely its as annoyingduck said, try mtp mode not ptp(camera). I think ptp is just optimized to do a 'camera' sync onto your computer. (for windows users, that annoying dialog box that pops up asking if you want to sync video, pictures, make a dvd, etc...)
I didn't realize I had the same problem as well. Awhile ago, I noticed that my data transfers would time out and I've only ever used camera mode. Thanks for the tip!

You could also give Airdroid a shot. It works over wifi so it's just a touch slower than the USB cable, but it's super solid and is wireless too!
No mention of manufacturer, class or capacity of sdcard?
Makes a huge difference.
Also make sure to be using an OEM usb cable from a major manufacturer. Knock off or cheapy dollar store cables just don't cut it for charging, let alone transfer...

I actually find it a shade faster than my pitiful USB 2.0 ports.
Takes about 5-10 minutes to xfer 700mb files on Airdroid. I think anyways, I'm guestimating from about 10 hours ago when I xferred a 700mb file. I wasn't on top of it but I'm pretty sure it finished closer to the 5 minute mark...
That fixed it, switched mode and tranfered a rom. First time it timed out, tried again and it went through fine. Was using the OEM cable with a 32 gb sd, not sure of class. I know its not a 10. Will take a look at Airdroid, thanks for that tip.

Hi you are using this in a device that uses USB2 interface, and that is your limiting factor of getting anywhere near the speeds the card is capable of.
You should be getting about 20MB/s write out of that card approx, and I have now looked at your post and sure enough
The fastest card in phone is the Sandisk Extreme Pro card at about 40-45MB/s write, the maximum transfer rate for the phones interface.

yeah that looks more normal. Looks like you have a TON of stuff running and going on, something may be accessing your card, altering the results. The card is good for +40MB/s writes.

I have some raw 1080p footage from my drone (DJI Inspire 1) on my SD Card, the files are uncompressed and gigantic. I've found using the stock video player they tend to hang.
That bothered me, as I use my phone often to display some of the footage for work purposes. I switched to VLC and I believe it buffers from the SD card much better as it rarely stutters at all.
Give VLC a shot.

Agreed, very feature rich and works well for me
Its likely due that the video bit rate is higher than what the acceptable maximum bit rate your sd can handle. A player like vlc recommended above which can buffer it or a better sd card should solve the issue.
