32 GB Micro SD card question!

I bought a 32 gb micro sd off ebay! I've heard of some people getting bad cards off there. The one I've got is a Sandisk 32 gb class 4.
I've been able to do these things:
-It reads 30.9 gb available space after formatting it.
-Format it from the phone.
-Move my apps to it and they function fine.
- record video and take pictures and view from the phone.
Now when it comes to putting MP4 movies on it, I've been able to get 3 to work. Any others I put on it it either won't read them or the video doesn't play right. I have a class 2 16 gb sandisk that has no problems at all.
My questions are these. How do I know if I got a fake one, is there a way to test it? Are there any ideas on a way to fix this?

Are you saying that the <i>same files</i> work on the 16gb card, but not the 32gb card? I'm having a hard time with that idea; the card doesn't care what the file is; its only job is to store the bits.
It is possible that you're hitting a bad spot on the chip, and that the larger video files happen to be the ones hitting the bad spot, but I've never actually heard of an SD card that "sort of" works; every one I've ever had has either worked or not worked.
If you're having trouble with video files in general, the problem is more likely the encoding of the video files. If you're trying to view downloaded movies, you could be hitting unsupported resolutions, bit rates, or encoding schemes. There also seems to be a wide variation in h.264 encoders, so some will work great and others will fail miserably.
One thing you could do is find an encoder that works for you, then run any movies you acquire through that encoder to ensure that you have a uniform resolution, bit rate, and h.264 encoding setting.

Hey Tom thanks for helping OP out. Regarding the 32gb card, how much did you pay for it? I was looking in amazon and they are 45 dollars. Did you find a better deal?

30.9 gb sounds right. The rest of the card is dedicated to storing a map of where the files are stored.
If you think the video files are corrupted, try playing them on your computer from the card.....they should work. In that case you just have a funky file that isn't working in your phone.
Moboplayer is my favorite media player, if it needs any extra codecs to work, it'll let you know. Just make sure to change the video decoding to "software" after that, I believe.

What are you guys using to get all of the files transferred from an old card to the new card, I have formatted it on the phone, on the computer, tried copying from the computer to the card using a USB adapter, tried copying over the same way but in 3 separate batches, The phone is seeing the card and 26G free, but none of my programs are showing up. I am now trying this, formatted the card in the phone, and copying through the phone.

I just used a card reader and copied the files onto the computer then from my computer to the new card. Also i think it was a bogus card. The guy offered a full refund but now that he got it back, I havent heard from him. I filed a buyer protection claim. I read a n article in ebay forums about bogus 32 gb cards being sold. They're only 2 or 4 gig cards made to look like 32's. Anyone else heard of this?

Sandisk 64gb Microsdxc Card

I was given one of these cards as a gift and the first one shipped failed to format but the replacement came in today and works great in my Galaxy Tab 7 Plus. Just thought someone may want to know. The formatted storage space is 59.4gb.

It was a gift but Amazon had it for $149.00 at the time.

I'm planning to buy this card,so i want to know its actually transfer speed. Can you test it on PC using the software Atto Disk Benchmark ?

Since they started doing this "internal" and "external" memory card with our devices, I'm not too worried about swapping the sd card in and out anymore as it doesn't affect the way the device works as much as it used to.
I have a 32GB card each for my tablet and phone that pretty much stay there all the time. What i did instead for extra capacity was collect all the old 16GB cards and store them in this sd-card holder that fits perfectly in this black aluminum business card holder. I bought the sd-card organizer and business card holder from ebay.
That's 11 (one in the microSD to SD adapter) 16GB cards for 176GB total. I mainly use this system to backup and transfer pictures from my bigger SD cards when I'm out shooting photos (using the 30-Pin to SD adapter).

What did you use to format the card? i put this in my G Tab+ and when i click mount sd, it gives me an error icon in the notification area. when i tap that and click format, it says it is blank or has an unsupported file system. Any help would be appreciated
*Edit* - I've been having trouble finding a utility I trust to format the card as FAT32. On my windows 7 64 bit machine, the native right click format menu doesnt even give me the option of doing FAT32, just exFAT or NTFS (both useless for the application I need). Even the official SD Formatter tool didnt give any choice in the filesystem to format to.
After seeing this article, I decided as a last ditch effort to use my Vibrant to see if i could get it to format as FAT32 since the article mentioned it working in the Galaxy S. This worked and i now have 59.4GB free to exploit on my G Tab+ (However, I did have to use the file write permissions fix to get things to copy between internal and external memory within Astro). Just wanted to post for others that were having trouble finding a way to format this card as FAT32. My assumption is any of those confirmed devices will format it.

does anyone know the max sd card transfer speed of the pad, and the dock?
i am looking at a 128GB SDXC card (yes, its a lot, but this is replacing a dead laptop for the foreseeable future) , UHS-1 60mb/s, or a 45mb/s one. will the UHS card actually have any benefits in the dock, or simply when transfering data to it from the PC.

I'm currently running a Class 10 (200x) 32 GB SDHC in the dock, branded Dane-Elec. Runs fine. I don't know if it takes 32+ GB cards, though... And to be honest, while heavily dependent on what you actually do with it, for most purposes a high-speed card should suffice...

I'm currently using two Sandisk cards:
- microSD class 10 30MBps SDHC Ultra (16GB)
- full SD class 10 SDHC Extreme 45MBps in the docking station (32GB)
They get better speeds than the built-in disk, but it is still not great. It seems to be about 15-18Mbps write for SD, 6Mbps write for microSD and 30-32Mbps read for both (as compared to 12/18 of the internal memory).
The fastest way of moving data still seems to be external USB HDD...
Hope this helps, haven't tried any other yet. I have tried both FAT32 and NTFS though. They seem to give similar results (I had no problems using NTFS on my SD card so far, which is a good sign).

I haven't used an external drive yet, but I agree with the observation that the transfer speed is not optimal, no matter what card I plug in (I have transplanted a few I normally use in my DSLR just for testing; they are all fast cards, as you can imagine). I transferred several documentaries and a lot of photographs yesterday evening and it took ages, mainly due to the fact that the transfer process hangs up the entire device (!) regularly. It seems to happen after about 70 to 80 MB are read into (temporary?) memory and apparently are only then buffered out to the main storage. Let's hope a custom ROM can straighten this issue out...

In my case internal memory is faster than microSD. You don't really have the option, unless you play with the filesystem and mount your MicroSD on /mnt/sdcard instead of /Removable/MicroSD. In the Infinity /mnt/sdcard is just a folder within the internal memory by default (many apps use it though, so they had to arrange it this way). I don't think there is any reason to change this, as internal memory seems faster and that's whole 64GB of it (OK, maybe 56 available, but still a lot..).

Perfect thanks, I thought though that there were current issues with I/O speeds until someone could fix it in a Rom. Or has this been addressed in the new firmware?

Hopefully I could tell you in a few days, but honestly I don't think it has (can't try it out yet, as the firmware released is Taiwanese version, and I'm on the World-Wide).
The Infinity is not that far behind other new tablets or rather it's not only TF700's problem, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28416635&postcount=2842

This. As i've ranted earlier, the new firmware provides fixes for camera issues, not for the I/O the TF700 so obviously suffers from. Having said that, it is not like the tablet in itself is useless as it is -- far from it -- but remains a mystery to me why they didn't spot this in advance (like with the Prime's issues with GPS and wifi), It seems like ASUS develops a device by letting several teams work onindividual components, and, when they get their specific part up and running, just put it together and relese it. I have a distinct feeling that neither device was actually and properly tested.
But, still, I'm pretty happy with the device overall.

From what I see my UHS-1 card that doesn't work is initialized as DDR which means the max speed for the TF700T µSD is 50 MB/s (as that is the only DDR speed).
The full size SD socket uses a USB host so the big question is is it USB 2.0 or 3.0!

All specifications says USB 2.0 for the dock, so I would assume that's correct, even for the TF700 dock.

Asus has finally responded that there is limited UHS-1 support in the µSD slot.
For now you are better off not trying UHS-1 in there. The may come up with a patch...

Careful there with a 128gig card, I read somewhere that there is a 32 gig upperlimit on recognizing cards and sticks...
tho I do wonder if you formatted it into enough partitions it might read them all?

If the dock uses a sdhc compatible controller and simply exposes the card as a mass storage device for the system, then there is really no such limit. The SDXC cards which supports >32GB does so due to the SD's FAT specification not for actual addressing and such.
SDXC cards are accessible as SDHC but standard specifies ExFat as default filesystem. This may not work on units not compatible with ExFat, but a reformat will fix that. In the TF700T's case we have already seen users use 64 GB cards breaking that 32GB barrier.
We have also seen the TF700T mount ExFat, although it seems to fallback to NTFS.
The thing he should be carefull of is UHS in the µSD socket as it's still wonky.
In the dock I suspect a UHS card will simply be treated as a normal SDHC card, but UHS cards usually have better class speeds so may be a benefit even with the dock doing USB2.0 hosting.

NTFS File System MicroSD Card 64GB U65GT

Is there any sure fire way to get this tablet to recognize NTFS or exFAT? I've tried the handful of apps out there e.g. NTFS Mounter/Paragon, etc. However they don't even recognize my SD card, saying something along the lines of "please insert NTFS media". This is honestly an amazing tablet for the price, but this downside is really kicking me in the butt right now.

I know it has trouble even with 32g samsung cards, but I too would dearly love to get a 64 gig working, on one site they said up to 64gig tf card (which google says is exactly the same as micro sd) every other site says 32 gig, surely if 64 works you can go to 4 terabytes or what ever fat32 can handle
I heard you needed to delete the exfat partition with some heavy duty software ... also that when google started pushing the cloud service they started making the cards smaller, which is kinda evil

200GB MicroSD card issues?

Picked up a high-speed MicroSD card and formatted it in my moto z. My device gets hot and full charge battery only lasts about three hours. When I remove the MicroSD card everything goes back to normal.
Using custom kernel and prerooted stock rom.
Anybody having any issues like mine or can shed some light on how to fix the issue? Thanks!

happened to me in moto x force and moto z
with 128gb lexar (works flawlessly on samsung tab a)
changed to sandisk uhs-i and no problems
might be moto is picky when it comes to sd cards

Yep this is a lexar card. Was on sale for $100. I guess I'll have to return it. Thanks for letting me know.

I went back to stock encrypted and it seemed to fix the issue.

So another update, turns out Android sucks at indexing and it was constantly scanning my 5800 FLAC files all the time. 100% battery would go to 10% in just under three hours, it had nothing to do with it being a lexar card!
Solution? I put a .nomedia file in my music folder and enabled my music player to ignore that and it scans my whole library with ease. I went to work at 8:30 am today and just got home (6:18 pm) and my battery is still at 85%.

Really a weird issue...
I've my MP3 and videos on my SD card and I've noted no issue with them...

I've tried multiple high speed UHS-I cards, and formatted as internal, but all of them were either flagged by the phone as "too slow and might affect performance" or gave me heat and battery life issues.
And it would take five minutes after a reboot to show all app icons, or apps would lose login passwords, games lost saves and other annoying issues.
Formatting it as external storage, and just setting the camera to record directly to it works fine though.
Someone from Xiaomi actually said they're not adding or supporting MicroSD as internal due to them always having issues apparently. And it seems to be true.

This is in fact my actual situation... no issues with Lexar 128GB 1000x.

Btw, another reason to not use it formatted as internal storage, is the immense power requirements MicroSD can spend at max write speed.
According to Wikipedia, as much as 100mA, which really explains why the phone heats up when it's formatted that way. And that doesn't include the consumption of the sd card controller.

It didn't matter how I had it formatted before it was still getting super hot. Now that I haven't been using it, the issue must have been Android trying to index all the files as it's been running fine all week now that I have that .nomedia file in my music folder.

Does anyone know of a 128 card that can handle is phone?? Im gonn try the Samsung Pro+ 128

And at last... I had issues too!
On sdcard I store TWRP backups (no issues...), Titanium backups (no issues...), Maps (no issues...) and.... Pics & videos... and here I begin to see some weird behaviour...
First I saw Gallery had difficulties on showing pics thumbnials if I go fast between them... then it begins to show some "damaged" pics... at last I saw Camera app begins to crash just after taking a pic... (set to save on sdcard...)
So, I removed sdcard, connected to a PC and copied all files... The copy requested A LOT of time since of read difficulties, BUT all files was ok at last. :highfive:
Then I formatted sdcard and extensively tested with h2testw with no issues and constant speed.
So I formatted again and copied all files back in.
Then I've found a way to have it working fine with Moto Z... (I think... :fingers-crossed
Problem is that Moto Z is set to use a too small cache size for modern sdcards (128 KB) and this probably generate sync issues (and when this happens I saw CPU go wild and phone become warm... in a very similar way with Windows when it is having issues with USB keys... )
So I installed "SD-booster" app from Play Store (yes, it requires root...) and used it to resize cache to a more suitable value of 2048 KB and I haven't had any issue since then... more, my gallery has never been so fast scrolling and taking a LOT of pics in seconds or slow motion video isn't an issue at all now...

I'm using a Samsung Evo 128go and I have no issue

So, I currently only use my 128gb Samsung UHS1 card for external storage only because of the issues other have experienced using it as internal. Not sure if it's on anyone's radar but Sandisk just announced a new micro sd card made specifically to be able to handle the read/write requirements.
